Electric Capacitor drive vehicles? Range of 400 miles on one 10 minute charge? Anybody heard about this?

skahhh

Zenn reported about something being tested with this a few months back? Any news on this lately?
We are talking super capacitors here with nano material construction!

Answer

They expect to be manufacturing its ultra-capacitor pack by mid-2008

The honda FCX fuel cell car has them too. http://world.honda.com/FuelCell/FCX/ultracapacitor/

Could Chevy catch or surpass Toyota as the greenest auto manufacturer?

Chevy remains on schedule to produce the Volt by the end of 2010. This car will be able to go 40 miles purely using an electric engine, after which point it will act like a gas/electric hybrid. Effectively as long as you don't travel more than 40 miles in a day, the Volt will be an electric car.

GM is requiring a 10 year lifetime for the Volt's lithium-ion battery, and expects to have next-generation lithium-ion battery packs ready for the vehicles by October this year.

The Toyota Prius is clearly the greenest car available right now

although the Honda Civic hybrid is close behind. While Toyota is working on a plug-in Prius model, they haven't yet advanced to the lithium-ion battery stage and thus have fallen behind Chevy in the plug-in market.

Toyota surpassed American companies in hybrid technology a decade ago - is GM finally about to reverse this?

Answer
I actually think this could be quite possible.

G.M. have copped heaps of bad press since the release of "that movie". What better way to clean up their image than to regain no 1.

Toyota and Honda have proven beyond any doubt that people will pay a premium for environmentally freindly vehicles.

Personnally I don't give a rats as to who has the best as long as they are all trying to better each other. It is probably more likely that a start up specialised company similar to Tesla, Eestor / zenn or even Zap might get the nod for greenest car first. (It will all depend on what is fact and what is hype)

Just as a footnote
I can see no real benefit in trying to be almost as good as Toyota. Civic Hybrid is almost there, but doesn't sell anywhere near as well.

Someone was telling me about a new car that costs around $2900?

Sushilove

i guess it was on the news lately, whats it called

Answer
$2500.

TATA Nano.

Tata is an Indian car company. This car is only sold in India. It will nver be legal for America since it is glued together instead of welded so it is not safe.

TATA is the company that bought LandRover and Jaguar from Ford almost 2 years ago.

will the USA get the $1000 car like the one in india?

Cars are way to exspensive, so over priced it is time we get cheaper cars.
will we get this cheap $1000 car like the one in india ? or will we have a car for around the same price here in the USA any time soon?
I am taling about new cars, i dont care about your used pinto on craigslist.

Answer
You misread or misinterpreted the information on the car. It doesn't SELL for $1,000. The car isn't even made yet, perhaps you'll start seeing them in July if all goes well, and Tata motors is predicted to ask $1000-1400 as booking deposit for the car.

The model is the Nano. "Per the latest news about it: More than 203,000 people have bought the ultra cheap Nano car in India, yielding sales of 25 billion rupees ($512.6 million), Tata Motors said Monday. The sales are significant in a country where just 1.5 million passenger cars were sold last fiscal year.

Due to production constraints, the Nano was for sale only from April 9 to April 25.

The Nano was meant to herald a revolution in transport for the poor

Tata, however, said only 20 percent of customers opted for the cheapest version of the car, which retails for 100,000 rupees ($2,050)."
-----------------------
It will not be available in the USA since it would not come close to meeting federal standards for safety, even at the most expensive model offered, which would run closer to $3K.

You mentioned the Ford Pinto, which compared to the Nano looks darn good.
