What is the best car audio deck you can get

I'm getting a system for my car and I need your guy's opinion on what deck is the best and what company I should look at to get one. Any info helps

to me pioneer and eclipse are the top two.
go with the pioneer 9800bt it comes with blue tooth high pass filters low pass filters add ons for usb ipod it has a built in 13 band equalizer when most radios only give you a 3 band also most radios wont give you high pass and low pass filters which block frequencies you don't want certain speakers to play also it comes with higher voltage outputs which send a stronger signal to an amp if you choose to amplify there to much more that this unit does but you can read it at pioneer. Eclipse also has high end features if you are into having a radio provide good sound quality these are good to go with.

Setting an Intelligent Equalizer on Car Stereo, Hurts Ears...?

Hello, I have a JVC in dash car stereo. When I first installed it 3 years ago it really hurt my ears at first. It has an intelligent equalizer which gives you a ton of setting combinations as to how your player could sound. I remember it took me about 3 weeks of tweeking in order to get a setting I could stand to listen to. Well, last week my car battery went dead and I lost my sound settings. Now it's back to where I was 3 years ago. My ears hurt and they feel full of pressure when my cd player is on. I can't seem to remember how the equalizer was set. The options are: Low Level, Low Width, Low Frequency; Mid Level Mid Width and High Level, High Frequency. It also has an option for Loud On or Off. It's driving me crazy cause I loved the sound of my player once I got things tweeked and I can't seem to get it back. Does anyone no anything about sound or car stereos or equalizers that could give me some advice or info on how to have a nice sound? Thanks!

I own a JVC (my g/f's car) and it has the same EQ. It's actually pretty nice.
First off, you generally don't touch the bass.
Try to cut the midrange to about -1 or -2, have the mid width on '2' -the biggest 'Q'.
Now, the treble, where your 'bleeding ears' are being caused by; start at a high freq, it goes up to 15Khz so start there. Boost it at about +2 - +4. See how it sounds. If it sounds a bit bright, bring the freq down a little. Leave the loud off until you get the main EQ set, then see if it helps with it on.

Honestly, every car is shaped differently so noone can tell you what to have the EQ set to. You're just going to need to sit there, car off, volume to about halfway (25?) and mess with it until YOU like it.

Also, it might hurt you ears because you have the volume too high and the internal amplifier is clipping (distorting). I can only turn my g/f's JVC up to about 38 (goes to 50) before it clips.

how to set up 31 band eq for car audio?

I have a jbl ms8 installed in my car (g37 sedan) and it comes with a 31 band eq and I have no idea where to begin with tuning it. I've googled but come up with nothing as far as a basic tutorial. So how do I set up the eq for mostly hip hop?

This is one very complex machine. It will take you some time to read and fully understand the manual and what to do with the unit. If you have the patience for this, great, otherwise you will either need someone else to tune it for you, which still is not going to teach you how to use it, so YOU can use it.

What Type Of Car Amp Do I Need? How Many Channels Do I Need?

I have a 2000 corolla that has two door speakers and i'm putting in two more sony speakers that require an amp + im putting in a sub.

You will need to upgrade your current door speakers. I suggest you use Polk Audio MM series. They come with separate tweeters that you want to install in the left and right corner of your windshield, facing up.

I presume you will place your sub in the trunk. In this case you will need about 300 rms watt of power.
In this case you need a 5 channel amp. Channels 1 and 2 are for your door speakers and the tweeters.
Channels 3 and 4 are for your new speakers (probably in the back) (Consider Pioneer Series D. Only these one from Pioneer sound good. All others from Pioneer sound ok.)

For your amp, look at JL Audio, Rockford, Kenwood. They give you performance as advertised in their tech sheets. Most other companies over-state/exaggerate/lie about their performance and you really have no idea how little you are getting.

On the off chance that you will install a sub on the backseat, behind the driver seat (nobody uses this space anyway) and you can fasten your sub with your seatbelt and take it off into the trunk if you have more passengers. In this case you can get by with a 4 channel amp. Here is how.

Channels 1 and 2 power your front door speakers and tweeters.

Channel 3 plays only the left channel (main) of your stereo and powers both rear speakers. (Speakers in the front will provide clear stereo separation. You will not be missing any stereo separation if the rear provides you with only left channel (the main channel in stereo.)

Connect to channel 4 input for your sub. Get 4 ohm DVC (dual voice coil) sub and wire those coils in parallel to your channel 4 speaker out. Inside the car you will not need nearly as much power as you need when the sub is inside the trunk. Even 100-150 rms watt inside the cabin sound overpowering.

I suggest you get the small, tiny Kenwood equalizer to connect it directly to you line out for left and right channel from the head unit. The eq will then feed your amp all the needed input. It's so small you can put it in the glove compartment. But if you have 7" of space, you can get SSL S4EQ. It's much cheaper and works great.

Don't ask sales people or installers about eq. They all hate them. One small and inexpensive eq allows people to adjust their system to their liking any which way. This, of course, kills sales and kills orders for installation. That's why you will not find any eq sold at retail store, because they kill sales of other parts.

Last, your amp will come with a remote (power) on wire. Put on this wire a small on/off switch and hide the switch. This will do three things.

First, occasionally electrical system in the car may leak some current even after you remove the key from ignition. This will be enough to keep your amp powered on until you come back next day and find you battery dead and amp warm.

Second. When you are not listening to music, why draw power into the amp all the time. Turn that switch on only when you play music. It will improve your gas mileage.

Third, the switch will prevent unauthorized fools from playing with your system. Every time you leave your car, valet parking, mechanic, car wash, etc. people just love to see what you've got. They are not supposed to do this, but in reality they do. This is just a small way to prevent someone from playing with your system.
