Vin Number to my Husbands old Car....Help guys.....?

Ok so my Husband so,d a 1970 Ford Maverick years ago and now he has been looking to buy another one (midlife crisis I think....lol) Anyways I think I want to try to buy him one for his Birthday in the next couple of years and I would really like to find the exact one that he sold years ago. He doesn't have any of the old paperwork on it and can't remember what insurance company he had it insured through. I know there has to be a way to look up vehicle records of some of these that are for sale and see if they are his old car. All I know about it is the year and color and a few other little details about it.

Does anyone know how I can track this down and see if it is really one of these that are for sale?
I don't want to chase after the owner all I want to do is contact some of the ones that are already for sale and see if they are actually his old car. So It's not like I'm gonna go knock on a strangers door and say hey you have my husbands old car let me buy it when its not for sale but if i have the vin and find one for sale that looks similar then I could compare them

I feel for you, but you won't be able to find the VIN number anywhere, and there is no way to look them up in any kind of database. Even if you had the VIN, the owner's info is private, and no agency would legally be able to give you the info.

There are several good websites to look for old Mavericks... Autotrader Classics, Hemmings, etc. You can probably find one very close to what he had.

Good luck to you, that is a very thoughtful gift. I need to have you talk to my wife, as I miss my 1970 Hemi 'Cuda.

Would an auto insurance company have a reason to ignore the fact of having an incorrect VIN Number?

I got a dui years ago and have now saved enough to buy my car and get it on the road. The risk of my age and record, I found myself going through an insurance company that looks like it literally has holes in the wall. Their advertisement is that they will accept anyone. And they will for the month to month price they can get. I noticed they copied down the wrong vin number for my vehicle. They stated that it was not important for sr22's. I had some spare time later and went back with the correct one written down for them to copy. In front of me they wrote down the wrong number off the sheet I handed them. "well okay... I'm just going to write down this". "it shouldn't be a problem" Is basically what they said to me during the process. is there any reason they would avoid using correct info? Or is it really just not that important?
(PS The number on my mailed insurance cards is incorrect and I just wrecked the car last week).

The vin # is totaly critical its the cars ID , if it doesnt match an adjuster if he wanted to be a jerk , could argue that the vehicle wrecked and the insured vehicle are 2 seperate cars altogether, and insurance adj. are notorious for being -icks !

I sold the my car to that person and they did not transfer it to their name. The Vin number is from his car. I did not leave my plates on the car either.

You need to contact your local licensing agency and file a seller's report of sale. It will protect you from the date it was filed and forward. If something has happened, buyer wrecked the car, didn't transfer title and parking tickets coming in your name, you would be responsible for anything prior to the seller's report of sale being filed. This is an important step in the selling process that many people fail to do, then problems such as your's come up, and you have to pay because you didn't proplerly follow through on the sale. You will not be offered info from the DMV regarding the new owner, the car title is going to show in your name, the VIN is going to be connected to you, so there is info to give you. Did you give a bill of sale? Did you have a copy of the bill of sale? These are things that should have occurred to stop problems from happening.

Im looking to buy a modified Mitsubishi with modifications like butterfly doors/ better engine/ new body kit etc...

I just wonder who insures modified cars in the USA? and for a 16 year old driver around how much? I know its hard to determine a price but a rough estimate is appreciated

All of my cars have been modded. I drive a Eclipse GT right now. I just dont tell them its been modded lol. I go through a local insurance company. They walked out and looked at my car. All they ever wanted was my info and the VIN number on the car. Im 24 and I pay 75 a month for full coverage. Insurance is different for everyone. Considering your 16 and if its something like an Eclipse I would guess around 200 a month. The only time I have ever known people to need special insurance is if its some kind of classic car or something more exotic like a Ferrari.

I bought a car in california without a smog certificate?

I bought the car and i didnt realize it was required by law for the seller to provide the smog certificate. I tried to contact the seller through text message and calling him and leaving a voice mail detailing the situation. Needless to say he is not contacting me back, what can i do. I have his address, name and phone number thats about it.

I'm not certain, but I think you can go online and get that info from the DMV website, if you have the VIN number. However if it is not current, I don't think you have much recourse except to take it in yourself. Good luck.
