Is faith a good method for knowing what's true? Should the police start making faith-based arrests?

Police in Nigeria are holding a goat handed to them by a vigilante group, which said it was a car thief who had used witchcraft to change shape.

A police spokesman in Kwara State has been quoted as saying that the "armed robbery suspect" would remain in custody until investigations were over.

But another police spokesman told the BBC the goat was being held in case its owner claimed it.

The belief in witchcraft and the power to change shapes is common in Nigeria.

Should faith be relied on more often as a means of determining what is true?

Answer
That is both sad and hilarious, darling.

They should call in the Men Who Stare At Goats to help with their interrogation of the "suspect."

Perfect illustration of what happens when you rely on "faith" rather than facts, though...as well as the cost of relying on "faith" - according to the article "Police have also been unable to stop vigilante squads from lynching suspects before they could investigate."

You have to wonder how many innocents lost their lives to this "faith."

Why does a car get better mileage on the highway compared to the street?

car economy info on ... volkswagen jetta tdi, most fuel efficient cars 2010 2010 volkswagen

Ebony B

Driving at high speeds decreases mileage, but so does constant acceleration and braking.... so how does driving at higher speeds on the highway give you better mileage according to EPA mileage info?
Thanks, Project.

Ok.... so, I live in L.A., and our highways are usually filled with traffic, so the advantage of higher highway miles probably wouldn't apply to me, right?

Answer
It takes less fuel to keep your car going at a constant velocity than it does to get it moving from a stop. All the stop and go you do in city driving uses more fuel than a constant speed on the highway. Idling and accelerating are the two biggest drains on fuel economy, and you do them often in city traffic. By keeping the throttle relatively still and not flucuating much on the highway, you are delivering a constant even fuel supply to the engine, instead of large amounts of fuel in bursts during stop and go traffic. Now, just because you get better mileage on the highway does not mean the faster you go the better economy you get. There is a point of diminishing returns where the vehicle's aerodynamics will start to bring down fuel economy. But, driving at a constant speed is what gives you the fuel economy advantage over city driving. Hope this helps.

What is the lifespan of a turbo on a car?

John

Hey everyone. I want to buy a audi a4 turbo, and my Dad
said that turbo's are hard on the engine so he wont let me buy one. is this true? How long would a typical engine with a turbo on it last? any other turbo info would be great. thanks.

Answer
He's right in several ways...

First turbo charged vehicles take a lot of extra care and maintainance, attention to particular details to specific things to keep them in tip top condition...

unfortunately few people or owners remember to keep up with all these things along with the life of the car even if they bought it new and had the owners manual with instructions etc. with the special instructions for the addtional special specific care needs for the turbo engine which are different than the same engine without the Turbo on it

Turbocharged engines are even more critical on warm up and oil cuirculation issues before driving away from the curb or driveway.... At least 2 minutes idle time is recommended before driving away also a spool down/idle down time of 2 minutes is recommended prior to turning the engine off when you park it...

These parimeters are most often forgotten and neglected by the owner/driver and are the causes of heavy engine and turbo charger wear and failure...

should a turbocharger fail... you must have the engine also inspected for damage prior to turbocharger replacement or you may have the engine fail too soon after turbo charger replacement...

An exact engine life is hard to estimate it depends on how freqeunt oil was changed (I recommend every 2000 miles to trurbo owners) how car was driven was idle spool up/spool time always followed etc.

dad's advice is good stay away from turbo cars for the most part unless you're a true car nut enthusiast prepared for the extra headache precautions...

also Audi's are status symbol cars so I recommend most people stay away from them, oter status symbol cars are Volvo, Mercedes, Saab, BMW (Beemers)

status symbol cars are almost always imports with a few exceptions and the parts and labor for them always cost more and they often get poorer fuel economy becasue they're targeted toward people who have more money (the affluent)

What is the current system in place to alert the LA community about a police chase?

car news twitter image

Z

There's been a few recently and from what I've seen on youtube (mostly chopper coverage), seems like a lot of clueless people going about their business are the most at-risk. Can't the CHP issue a local "extreme" SMS alert to a blanket, semi-large "affected" area of LA so many people can avoid the streets and keep a close watch on their property if a gang of 4 burglary suspects decide to bail in random directions? I just looked at my phone and it seems like this SMS type is a default, along with a greyed-out "presidential" alerts also enabled (impromptu military drafts?) I think getting this kind of information is critical whether it instantly comes to your phone or car GPS (theoretically most are connected to real-time traffic conditions now) in order to save lives. Here's a breakdown of what defines these wireless alerts: http://www.uscellular.com/support/cmas.html and in the case of a police chase where multiple agencies are involved, life and property damage is certainly at risk.

The next best thing (right now) is to get instantly notified of a chase yourself -- even this can be challenging (putting that mildly) to find accurate and straightforward information. KTLA doesn't have text alerts, only email "newsletters." nbclosangeles has texting, but you also have to be subscribed to a bundle like "celebrity gossip" and other "breaking news." KCAL9 appears to have a text-alert page full of dead sign-up links: http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/text-alerts/ Some volunteers have setup twitter accounts, (PCALive) but who knows how delayed these tweets are and many accounts have not been updated for months. Plus not everyone has access to tweetdeck or similar applications where tweets flow in real-time vs. push-notifications on most native cell-phone apps. Most apps will also not filter re-tweets so if you follow more than 5 people, your timeline gets clogged in a hurry and you're less likely to look at twitter anyway -- defeating the purpose of twitter in the first place.

tl;dr:
Information needs to reach affected areas in faster, more reliably, and in a less-clogged fashion.

Answer
Sirens. There ISN'T a 'system' to alert ANY community about a police chase. Any chase lasting long enough to activate such a system won't be in the same area by the time notice is received.

What's up with all these celebrity death hoaxes?

Hello!

Today, I heard a rumor that David Guetta had died in a car accident. Now it's Adam Sandler--which turns out to be a hoax, too. Who keeps doing these stupid hoaxes?

They are people who hate them. They start these rumors on google, twitter, Facebook, etc. If you want to know the truth, try going to news websites.

Can a decent electric car or truck conversion be made using a 9.8kw gas/generator with batteries?

Philip

I read about it in an old Mother Earth news (1993?) The car was mainly powered by the gen. The batteries would only kick-in for hills, boost of power, etc. I am interested in this design, anyone know if it works well? Can I use a 480volt 3ph gen-set to power motor/Drive for more efficiency/power? I already know about the volt, prius, leaf.

Answer
On the web a few years ago, and this was ultimately sold on Ebay; was a Geo metro that was modified to run strictly on a 10 horsepower/7500 KW Lister clone/"Listeroid" Diesel engine imported from India.

On a level surface, it could get to 55 Mph/88KPH if you did not mind the slow acceleration. Going up hill it would slow down considerably. They ran it with WVO and did better than 75 MPG.

If you stick with a lightweight car, or light small pickup truck like a Chevy Luv, or similar vintage Mazda or Datsun, you could see reasonable results. You would have tradeoffs to consider as well, since batteries are heavy.

Options to consider for your use- Aircraft starter generators for the drive motors. Diesel as your fuel for your genset. If you opt for one that has limited external monitoring circuitry, that will lighten the load some.

Does the full spectrum lamps have any relevance in a countries like India where sunlight is abundant?

car news for india on BBC NEWS | Business | India's car for the common man
car news for india image

I've recently read an article "Viva-Lite | The benefits of Daylight lighting" from squidoo. Does the full spectrum lamps have any relevance in countries like India where sunlight is abundant, through out the year?

Answer
1. It might appear that in a country like India this question is less relevant. But in fact it is not so. When you observe people living in countries where sunlight is abundant, they mostly try to avoid sunlight wherever possible - due to a number of reasons of course, one simply may being not to get any more tanned than necessary.

2. In developing countries at least the way while going to work used to be somewhat outdoors, but since this is changing and more and more people are working in offices, going to work by car and all rooms being fully equipped with AC, we cannot ensure that receive their daily optimum dosage of sunlight.

3. It is reported in various news and media channels for example in India, that people are getting more and more depression, especially in cities. This was unheard of in the past. Reason for this need to be studied more and certainly stress plays a major role, but there are chances that subtle things like less exposure to sunlight (which was abundant and natural so far) are also reasons that support such mental diseases.

In conclusion I would suggest that all offices, hospitals and schools around the world - being in sunlight rich or sunlight poorer countries - should be equipped with the best possible lighting of which full spectrum light still is the most natural choice.

What gives the car noise and power, the muffler or the exhaust?

car town info on ... Lincoln Town Car http://fresh.neocarsfor.com/tag/lincoln-town-car-2014
car town info image

CarGUY

I would also appreciate info on what the muffler and exhaust are for.

Answer
Inside a muffler, you'll find a deceptively simple set of tubes with some holes in them. These tubes and chambers are actually as finely tuned as a musical instrument. They are designed to reflect the sound waves produced by the engine in such a way that they partially cancel themselves out.

Exhausts have four main functions: to control noise, to direct exhaust fumes away from passengers, to improve the performance of the engine and to improve fuel consumption.

An exhaust is a series of pipes that links the engine to a silencer and a catalytic converter.

The tailpipe is the part of the exhaust that you can see extending from the back of the car. The silencer joins onto the tailpipe, then a series of further pipes joins the silencer to the catalytic converter and then the engine.

The silencer contains metal plates or tubes that have a series of holes bored into them. Exhaust gases leave the engine at very high pressures, and the holes in the silencer help to reduce that pressure so that they leave the car more quietly.

Exhausts can corrode from both the inside and outside. How long your ehxuast lasts for depends on how far and how often you drive your car rather than the length of time it has been fitted. Vehicles used for short trips around town tend to corrode their exhausts in a much shorter time and distance than cars used predominately for long journeys.

How can I get my town to start a recycling program?

Ashley

I am trying to find a way i can get a recycling program started in my town. Any ideas?
My town is relatively small and we don't have a recycling center here, but there is one relatively close.

Answer
set up a plan of action...meaning have all the "how, how much, when, where, who" of your program figure out and officially written down. then find more info at your local city hall and get an appointment to see your local councilman and get their approval first.

when you get the approved by the city, start by recruiting people you know that would help you instigate the program.
you can also make a flyer's with info regarding the program, the good it does for the community and the earth, your contact info in case they have questions or willing to help and pass them around town. leave them at car windshields, at local beauty stores, doctor offices etc...
\
then visit local churches, schools, grocery stores and ask for their cooperation.

How do I know how much a car uses gas mileage?

First L

I will be going to college soon and I am looking for a car that is economic and does not use a lot of gas (gas prices are expensive!!!). I want to know when buying a car what characteristics to look for in order to see if a car uses to much gas. I know that big trucks need a lot of gas often. But in a regular small car, what info should I need to know? A car that I looked at said that gas mileage was 34 mpg city/40 mpg hwy. What does this mean? Also, do I need to check the engine? For example, 1.5L I4, 16 valve, 106@6000 hp. What do I need to look for in order to save gas. What are the best cars right now that do not use much gas, of good quality, and economic?

Answer
here's some basic tips keep inmind when looking at gas mileage:
-the more horsepower an engine has the poorer the gas mileage.
-the more cylinders an engine has the poorer the gas mileage
-epa estimates (the 34 city/40 hwy you asked about) are only estimates and are usually a little higer than reality. but they're pretty close.
-city mpg (miles per gallon of gas) are what you can expect to get when driving in town on surface streets where you make lots of starts and stops.
-hwy mpg are what you can expect on the freeway when you are driving around 65mph without any significant or persistent slowdowns.

if you're looking at the engine try to get a 4 cylinder. it's the smallest engine available in most cars and will get the best gas mileage.
the most fuel efficient cars are the gas/electric hybrid cars available from toyota, honda and ford. notice i said car. there are several truck and suv hybrids on the market as well but from what i've read about 35 mpg hey is the best you can expect there.
look at the smaller cars. toyota and honda are great. very durable and reliable. also try the smaller brands. kia, mazda, and nissan all have small fuel efficient cars that come with great warranties. and the domestic auto makers also have some small fuel efficient cars. ford seems to be at the top of that list.
if you want to buy domestic be prepared to do some serious looking for the smaller cars. most car lots of the domestic auto makers are still overloaded with suv's and trucks. they'll do everything they can to talk you into buying a larger, less fuel efficient (but more profitable to them) suv or truck.
hope this helps and good luck on your car search.

What are some good websites where I can build a college student personal website?

car info for free on car news articles on cars
car info for free image

OptimusCri

I graduate in about a year and a half, with my BS in electrical engineering. I already have a Linkedin, but I need a website where I can post pictures and videos of the many projects I do in and out of school. I also do community service with kids in my area, I love photography...cars, nature etc. I want a website that I can post about my life, employers and new friends can get to know me better. I'm good with C programming but I have no experience whatsoever making websites so I need a website that doesn't demand a lot, if anything, be a template where I just fill in info. Free is good but I'd rather pay hosting a fee and not be ad supported.

Answer
In order to build a website you just need:

1. A domain name (like something.com)
2. Web Hosting (the place where your actual website files are hosted)
3. A way to build your website (either manually if you know HTML and CSS, by paying someone, by using a built in website builder from your web host, or by installing Wordpress or similar CMS software).

Most modern web hosts include all three, so all you need to build a website like www.something.com is to get web hosting.

I recommend one of these: http://www.webhostingdiscounts.org/

iPage is currently on 75% sale for just $1.99/month!

Their hosting plan includes:
- Free domain name (.com, .net, .org)
- Unlimited storage and bandwidth
- Unlimited email addresses per domain name

They include a free point & click online site builder, so you can create your website without any programming (easy, just by drag and drop) or you can install Wordpress (they include an easy, one click install of Wordpress from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like Wordpress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

This is the first year to file a 1099 tax form. what do we do?

me

My husband has been working as a independent contractor since janurary 2006. We have to file a 1099(right?) well, what are we able to write off on it.(cars, clothes, phone, gas expenses, etc?) and we just got married last month, so would it be better if we filed together or seperate? And do u know of any websites that will help us find this info. free of charge?

Answer
You don't file a 1099 your receive on from all of the people that your husband worked for during the year. You would file a 1040 using a schedule c to report the business income and expenses. If this is your first year you should consider using a professional tax preparer. They will save you more than their fee in most cases. These two links will be some help if you want to learn more for yourself.

vacations on the east coast that dont require a car as means of transportation?

Q. me and my boyfriend want to go on a mini vacation. maybe about 3 nights or so over a weekend. we dont have a car and are on somewhat of a budget. we live in nyc and want to visit another city on the eastcoast (already been to boston). recommendations please!

Answer
Consider visiting New Orleans! JetBlue flies non-stop between NY and NO fairly cheaply.

NOLA is one of the world's special places with an ambience unique in North America, and remains so even after Katrina devastated it in 2005.

Katrina flooded about 80% of New Orleans with salt water, and the water stayed for almost a month. Much of the city is still struggling to recover and all you have to do to see devastation is drive around. It will take years for NOLA to fully recover from Katrina.

However, the parts of the city that tourists usually visit were not flooded. It's not a coincidence - the French Quarter and other old parts of the city were built on relatively high ground and only suffered wind damage from Katrina. Almost all of the damage has been repaired and you have to look closely in the FQ and city center to see that Katrina happened at all. You should visit and see for yourself.

Note that the City of New Orleans is only part of the greater New Orleans area. The GNO area had a population of about 1,400,000 before Katrina and is estimated at about 1,200,000 now (July, 2007). The absent 200,000 are mostly from the City of New Orleans and the parishes of Plaquemines and Saint Bernard, which were the worst-flooded parts of the metro area. Jefferson Parish - just to the west of the City - suffered only minor flooding and has fully recovered.

You can drink the water, the electricity & phones work, and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, and police/fire/EMS are operating. Restaurants, stores and shopping centers are open.

Municipal services like street cleaning & trash collection collapsed after Katrina. Those services were fully restored in late 2006 and it is no longer an issue.

I recommend staying in the French Quarter (Vieux Carre") if you can. There is a very wide range of selections available, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive "boutique" hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas and also check the hotel websites.

You don't need a car to get around in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it in a lot or garage unless you are traveling away from downtown.

The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs.

Regarding crime, questions like yours tend to attract highly negative "answers" from people who do not live here and who have little or no idea what they are talking about. Use the same common sense necessary in every major city in the world and there is little chance you will be a victim of anything except a need to visit the gym: Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't leave something like a camera-bag, purse, or backpack unattended on a park bench while you wander off to take photos. Etc.

New Orleans has mild weather from late October to early May and the city stays green all year most years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). We pay for the mild winters with hot, humid summers â particularly in July & August. The good news for summertime visitors is that hotel rates are lower.

Things to do:

There are many sightseeing opportunities in the greater New Orleans area, including carriage rides/tours, plantation tours, swamp tours, ghost tours, and even Katrina disaster tours. The steamboat Natchez also does a harbor tour. There are numerous tour companies and your hotel can help with the arrangements. Try to avoid scheduling an outdoor tour until you know the weather forecast for the day in question.

The Saint Charles Streetcar is the oldest continuously operating street railway in the world and is a "tourist attraction" in its own right. It is part of the public transit system, as are the Canal Street and Riverfront streetcar lines: http://www.norta.com/

There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. Note that music clubs often advertise "No Cover", meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with "No Cover" often require that customers buy a beverage each for every "set " of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so know the price before you sit down. The clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking water or nothing. It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it s delivered so there can't be any confusion at the end of the evening.

Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions).

Assuming the weather is good, you can collect a sandwich lunch and eat in the riverfront park (watch the shipping) or in Jackson Square (a very nice park).

The Riverwalk shopping center has an air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com). The Canal Place shopping center is in the French Quarter and has a cinema and higher-end shopping (Saks 5th Avenue, Brooks Brothers, etc.)

The lobby for the Westin Canal Place Hotel is on the 11th floor and overlooks the French Quarter. It is a great place for an afternoon drink/snack:(www.westin.com).

Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry.

The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year.

All of the famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Brennan's, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. The Pelican Club (on Exchange Alley in the FQ) is not as well known but is the same type experience. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends.

Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504-945-5635).

There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the "foot" of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canal_street_ferry

The Aquarium and Audubon Zoo are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see them if you can. The Zoo is several miles from downtown. You can drive to the Zoo (which has free parking) or take public transit from the French Quarter.

The Louisiana State Museum is in the French Quarter: http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/ New Orleans is also home to a number of other museums, such as the National World War II Museum (www.ddaymuseum.org) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (www.noma.org). Both can be reached by public transit: The WWII museum is in the central business district but a long walk from the French Quarter. NOMA is not within walking distance of downtown but has free parking.

Check www.frenchquarter.com for ideas on other things to do.

Hope you have a great time, wherever you go!

Public knowledge is public knowledge. I'm under the understanding that news gets put in the paper regardless. Maybe you could beg and plead w/ the cops or the newspaper officials, but even home foreclosures and people who don't pay their property taxes go in the paper for all the world to see.

I want to see the cliffs in Brooklyn. email me a pic of that!

I had a number of fords from that time period I had a cougar xr7 with a built 351 windsor that was one tire smoking bad boy at the time and while I managed to stay under the police radar in it the car was too fast for me being young and I managed to bash it into a cliff and a big tree stump which finnished it off. There were either a 351 w or windsor in the fords in the late 60s early 70s or the 351 C or cleveland. The windsor was about 400 lbs lighter which made it more desirable for hot rodders but both engines were good and did good on gas as long as you kept your foot off the floor.
Late 70s ford came out with the modified for the smog bs. It sucked lacked power and while it made emissions it was not very good because the detuned the heads and did some other wierd sh it.
My question for you is do you live in an area where emissions is required? and if so what is the cut off year? if you dont have to put that modified back in dont. There are a lot of other better motors and many newer fuel injected motor and tranny combos can be had from a wrecking yard standpoint with low miles for not a whole lot of money. Anything newer fuel injected will come with the wire harnesses and transmission to make the swap a lot more fun and less hassle.
If you plan to do a 351 on a budget consider some performance heads and a 50 state legal cam a new carb and a a dual exhaust this will give you plenty of power and stll get through emissions. The good news is emissions in 79 were pitiful by todays standars that is why I brought up a late model fuel injection they pass with flying colors compared to a carb and the gas mileage is better too. food for though. There are some good companies who have mustang parts here are a few links The better more well known ones have a reputation they won the hard way and while the parts are not cheap they are either as the factory made them or even better in many cases so you at least get what you pay for. you can also drop in a factory new crate motor for under 2 grand from fordracing website and there are plenty of others . summitracing has lots of engine parts Jegs does and if you want to make you a bad to the bone wild stang go look at roush http://dealers.roushperformance.com/
year one is another dynamite parts warehouse the link https://www.yearone.com/Catalog/1979-04-Mustang and have previewed on several well known shows like overhauling with chip foose and a outfit called SMC or super muscle cars out of south los angeles that specializes in rare big block muscle cars with all new modern running gear. I saw one show where they put a a 440 big block in a dodge dart which was amazing as it was not supposed to fit. being as the dart is not a full size car.(man that had to be fun to drive though ! )

Where can i get paid fair money for advertising for a business?

car news mobile on Elvis and Cars Photos Added to Elvis Mobile App

Reginald

I'm a single father of 3 and I'm always looking for ways to make a little extra money. Someone I work with was telling me that I could make some money just by putting some decals on my car. I have looked into it but, I really can't find these business that are willing to pay for advertising. If there someone that can help me with some info on this topic please do. I'm really in need of the extra funds.

Answer
Take care there are a lot of scam offers that turn out to just provide you a list of one time on car advertisers for your $39 fee. Don't pay anything to get into one of these ad programs, because it is virtually 'free' money, there is a much higher demand than available advertisements needing cars.

Count yourself lucky if you can find an advertising company in your community looking to do such advertising, ask anyone you see with these ads how they got them, leave your phone number with a polite note on a parked car like this when you see them, there's a much better chance of you getting the real truth this way.

From a mobile advertising interview: "Our typical campaign lasts three to six months"

These might not be the worst ones.

You have a better chance of picking up a bit of extra money doing freelance work on the internet, check out the job lists on the no cost to register marketplaces like odesk.com, freelancer.com, elance.com, though it's mostly tech work there are simple article writing for web site chores as well.

There are also micro task sites that pay small change for a few minutes work, popular with 3rd world countries, some in the U.S. do them instead of crossword puzzles, the original was created by Amazon, the online store to 'automate' tasks a computer couldn't do, like pick the better of 2 pictures they named mturk.com after the 18th century Mechanical Turk chess playing machine that had a man hidden inside. ShortTask and microworkers have similar micro tasks, some individual jobs are a bit shady, like signing up for product trials, doing surveys, clicking ads you shouldn't, but you get to choose which tasks to perform

Is swine flu just a big rumor to jumpstart the economy by making people spend money on the health industry?

scottizzzo

Because swine flu is one of the top stories on every news media resource, many people who have normal flus or even colds, are going to the doctor's office or buying lots of medicines and drugs. What if it is a corporate and government sponsored media sensationalized rumor to try and help the boost the global economy?

Answer
lol

no, dude the swine flu is real it's already killed approx. 145 people in mexico and is spreading across the world as we speak.
Besides spending money on the health industry wouldn't be a great boost in the economy since the health sector of the USA is one of the few HEALTHY parts of the economy which is still growing even in this recession. Now if the flu somehow made people buy houses and cars out of some weird panic or something now that's when i would start to think the governments behind it haha.

What do I do if I've been wrongfully charged in a car crash that I nor my car was in?

car info from vin on Auto News Features, Car Information Obtain Your Antique Car
car info from vin image

Joel

I received a notice from the Bureau of Financial Responsibility that I need to pay for damages in a car crash that took play on May 14, 2007. The car info (i.e., VIN, tag, make & model) are correct, but it wasn't my car. The crash took place in Tampa, FL. I live on the east coast of Florida in Martin County. Neither I nor my car was involved in this crash. The crash report lists another person as the driver, whom I've never met, but since the crash report gives my tag and car information, the Bureau says I'm responsible!

I'm trying to sort out this mess, but the Bureau, the High Patrol office in Tampa and some other gov offices don't have a procedure and seemingly don't know how to help. It's sort of "Too bad, but we don't make mistakes" or a "Can't help you there. It's your info so that makes you guilty" attitude. I've called the trooper leaving messages. I'm still waiting.

Does anyone know what or who I can go to regarding this? Has this happened to anyone before?

Answer
They obviously got your tag mixed up with the real driver's tag. I would contact the traffic supervisor for the patrol and straighten it out with him.

813/632-6859...ask for a supervisor. If you do not get anywhere, call the local news

Do you know if there is any way you can find out a License plate number for a vehicle if you have no info?

M

Other than the year, we have an idea of the license plate number but not sure. I mean is there some kind of website I can go to to find out vehicle info, have no VIN nothing.
See what happened is that our car was stolen 3 days ago and we still haven't reported it because we don't know the license plate and it was registered to someone else also registered in OREGON state. All the paperwork for some dumb reason were in the car. Old classic car.

Answer
Help me understand this: your car was stolen, and you haven't reported it stolen to the police; also, you don't know enough about your car to give a good description?

Wow.

Hope it's not used in the commission of a felony later today.

Is there a technology to run automobiles (cars, trucks etc) on Compressed Air?

car news in tata on New Car News, Auto News: New Tata Nano Features

Police Off

Answer
" BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.

The air car, also known as the Mini-CAT or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a 1.5 euro fill-up -- roughly 125 miles for $3. The top speed will be almost 70 mph and the cost of the vehicle as low as $7000.

The car features a fibreglass body and a revolutionary electrical system and is completely computer-controlled. It is powered by the expansion of compressed air, using no combustion at all, and the exhaust is entirely clean and cool enough for use in the internal air conditioning system. "

Are we, humans, doing enough to protect and conserve the Global environment?

Please provide your sources, if any.

Answer
No we are not doing enough because we are not using "The World's Cleanest Car" which is coming out later this year.

How can I check if I have a bad spark plug?

saintluey1

is there a tool or certain way of checking to be sure? my car also uses coils so how can i check that too

heres car info if needed.

Lincoln Towncar 2000
V8 4,6L

Answer
You check by taking the plug out, and visually inspecting it. If it looks ok, its fine, if it looks burnt, it needs a new plug. They're not expencive so always replace if in doubt, they're about $2 a plug.

As for coils, no idea, im sure if you bought a haynes manual or brought it to a shop, there'd be a test for it.

What was this community called?

car news podcast on Tuesday, February 13, 2001
car news podcast image

Justin

I remember learning about a huge community somewhere in the south west possibly. Where there was a big lake and lots of homes, then the lake dried up and every left, and it is now a big wasteland and looks scary like a nuke went off and the houses and cars and everything is rotting away. What was this town called? Its like wicked cool and was on a podcast on itunes like 5 years ago, long gone. Just wondering where it is and what the place is/was called.

Answer
http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060624/NEWS/606240370/1039

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1499477

Below? maybe?

More on the lake that dried up. What the owners did in the 70s.
I wrote about this dried up lake previously. It has been closed off to the public for many years.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/...

But I did not know about this 70s event and had a modicum of sympathy. What they are going to try to do again now, which of course they will have to get state permission to do, is just overboard for a private lake. I saw red when I read this article. I had no idea all this was going on then. I had sympathy, but after reading this I lost it...at least for today.

They tapped into other water resources, they bought their own pump which ran 24 hours a day until they pumped their lake back again. I will fight them if they want to do this again. Our Florida underground system is too fragile to do this for a private lake that has now drained for the second time.

Are webcams inappropriate for radio transmissions?

grayure

I understand that John Barrowman is alleged to have exposed himself to a webcam on air while being interviewed in a BBC radio programme. Whereas this is not good if it happened, do people not feel in any case that a sound medium really shouldn't have a video or other visual element anyway? If you look at the BBC website for various Radio 4 comedy and drama programmes, you see images of the characters or settings. Does this undermine the nature of the medium? Does it mean the pictures are no longer better on the radio?

Answer
I think that radio programs, broadcasted on the web, by adding an webcam, are only proving that radio can adjust. I don't think that there is the need to change the medium.

It's just like newspapers (though I'm not sure that newspapers will last for decades), their websites have all sorts of multimedia, videos, photos, sounds, and, of course, text.

Radio, once it got on the web, did the same. We can listen to podcasts of our favorite programs, but we can also see videos, photos and even text news.

By being videocasted on the web, a radio program is only adding a little extra. The fundamental is still sound. And as long as there is cars, portable audio devices and the ability to broadcast sound, then the radio will last.

Seeing a program host, because there is a webcam pointed at him is just a way of having a glimpse of the backstage - it's not about adding images because moving images are essential. In radio, even on the web, images are just a bonus.
