Does Clean and Clear acne control kit work?
DOES IT OR DOESN'T NOT? WILL IT GIVE MY DRY SKIN ,ARE THEY ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Answer
I don't know; I wouldn't use it because of some of the ingredients it has in it...

STOP eating and drinking foods with refined or artificial sugars, like high fructose corn syrup, crystalline fructose or aspartame/phenylalanine. Up your vitamin C, K & A. Do some exercise like dancing or yoga. Get a little sun everyday, no more than 10 minutes if you have a light complexion. Drink more water. Try using witchazel as a toner during the day, and unfiltered apple cider vinegar at night.

A wash of milk with lime is a great treatment for blackheads. First bring a glass of milk to a gentle boil, and then add juice from half a lime. When the milk cools down it makes a great face wash. You can store it in the fridge for a couple days.

A raw potato is cheap and brilliant acne natural cure, especially for whiteheads. The vitamin C makes your skin glow, and alkaline in the potato kills the bacteria on your face. The potato also has an exfoliating effect helping you to get rid of dead skin cells. Papaya fruit produces similar effect; you should also use it raw. (Make sure the potato isn't genetically modified!)

Many beauty products on the market have harmful chemicals in them; do your favorite beauty products contain any of these things?:

* Mineral Oil, Paraffin & Petrolatum â Petroleum products coat the skin like plastic, clogging pores and creating a build-up of toxins, which in turn accumulate and can lead to dermatological issues, like slowing cellular development, which can cause you to show earlier signs of aging. Suspected cause of cancer & Disruptive of hormonal activity.

* PARABENS â Such as methyl- propyl- butyl- & ethyl- parabens: Widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic industry (including moisturizers). An estimated 13,200 cosmetic and skin care products contain parabens. Studies implicate their connection with cancer. They have hormone-disrupting qualities â mimicking estrogen â and interfere with the bodyâs endocrine system.

* Phenol carbolic acid â Found in many lotions and skin creams. Can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and even death from respiratory failure.

* Propylene glycol â Used as a moisturizer in cosmetics and as a carrier in fragrance oils. Shown to cause dermatitis, kidney or liver abnormalities, may inhibit skin cell growth, and is a skin irritant and sensitizer.

* Acrylamide â Found in many hand and face creams. Linked to mammary tumors in lab research.

* Sodium laurel or lauryl sulfate (SLS), also known as sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) â Found in car washes, engine degreasers, garage floor cleaners⦠and in over 90% of personal care products! SLS breaks down the skinâs moisture barrier, easily penetrates the skin, and allows other chemicals to easily penetrate. Combined with other chemicals, SLS becomes a ânitrosamineâ, a potent class of carcinogen. It can also cause hair loss. SLES is sometimes disguised with the labeling âcomes from coconutâ or âcoconut-derived" - and is found in many popular body washes and toothpastes!

* Toluene â Poison! Danger! Harmful or fatal if swallowed! Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Made from petroleum or coal tar, and found in most synthetic fragrances. Chronic exposure linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage, and may affect a developing fetus. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) contains toluene. Other names may include benzoic and benzyl.

* WAXES â Such as Paraffin, Candelilla Wax, Carnuba Wax: Waxes are widely used in cleansing creams, eye creams, and moisturizers. Waxes clog pores, creating blackheads and whiteheads. They also smother the skin, which over time creates an enlarged pore problem.

* Lanolin â A yellow, semi-solid, fatty secretion from sheepâs wool is widely used in skin and beauty care products. It can cause an allergic reaction in some people, as well as enlarged pores.

* Acetone â Used in nail polish and nail polish removers, this colorless, volatile liquid is often used in astringents, fresheners, or clarifying lotions. It is extremely toxic and will dehydrate the skin, while speeding up the aging process.

* ALCOHOLS â Such as Isopropyl Alcohol, SD Alcohol 40, Ethyl Alcohol: Alcohols dissolve the bodyâs natural moisturizers and strip the skin of its protection, leaving it vulnerable to infec

How safe is it for Americans to travel Europe?

car news europe on According to Automotive News Europe's John Revill, General Motors ...
car news europe image

My girlfriend and I want to go to Europe for a couple of months as our honeymoon. How safe is it?
We were planning on flying to England, touring the British Isles, and taking the train through France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, and pretty much every country between, using credit cards as our money. The exact itinerary isn't planned yet, but that is a general idea.
I am a semi-professional photographer, and we are both pretty well traveled, so we shouldn't look like tourists. Don't know if that has very much relevance in Europe.
Is there any specific countries we should stay out of? I know Spain was having a bit of a hard time, so it's not on our list.

And how bad is the language barrier? Give me an idea on how much we would need to know of certain languages to get by.

Thanks for your help! My #1 concern is safety and getting by as fluidly as possible.

Answer
It is as safe as most of the USA and most of Europe is more safe than many parts of the USA.

There are some suburbs to main cities that have a less than good reputation but a short search on any of the cities you go to will show when there are problems.
Just like you will not go into the suburbs of the USA cities without checking.
No reasons just now to avoid any country, but you might keep any eye on BBC world news as well as the site of the USA foreign affairs people.

Using a credit card for the bigger payments is alright, but you will need cash as well, European shops often do not accept credit cards for small payment. Getting cash on your credit cards is often expensive, it is mostly much cheaper to use your bank card in the ATM.

Loads of tourists travel Europe only speaking English, never having any problems. Even in the smaller towns and out of the way rural areas you will find people speaking English fluently, if by no means all. But many people in Europe will understand the basic words, and most under the age of 40 will be able to answer you, if at times in a simple way.
If you are flexible with your language, know a bit of Spanish, French or German, it will be even easier, as you will be able to communicate with even more people.
I do not speak language other than my native Dutch and English and I have traveled the countries you name as well as a lot where English is spoken much less, like Japan, Slovakia and Czech republic, and had no language problems that stopped me from traveling nor enjoying it.
I have asked for help making reservations, tourist information offices are good places for that.

If you have the money to spend, combine train for long distances and into towns with car rental for getting around the countryside if you love making nature photos.
In the center of cities in Europe cars are mostly more of a hinder than a help, so better leave them parked out of town or even better, at the rental companies.
There are good buses and often underground/overground rail links all through the cities and a lot of smaller towns as well.

What breakthroughs can we expect by the year 2020?

I'd like to know how our lives are expected to change over the next 10 years. What type of medical advancements are on the horizon? Will there be a cure for cancer/aids? What types of new technologies will replace the current ones? I've Googled this question and found a lot of blogs but not much in the way of news articles.

Answer
We currently have the ability to automate vehicles so we won't need to drive. This ofcourse will require that all cars have an automatic transmission and able to communicate with eachother and road signalling etc. May be something to look forward to...possibly add the destination on the GPS and let it drive, ofcourse this is limiting to car enthusiasts, and no more accidents, no deaths on the road, may shut down some powerful insurance companies so not likely to happen. Makes you think, what else hasn't been invented because of a consequential shift in power.

Also very possible advances in weapons systems, with further computerisation, better tracking ability and detection, automation, target acquisition. What else?...I know NASA launched a new space rocket design recently, I'm sure everyone's seen it.

Why do people think the Mustang V6 is bad, when a lot of performance cars including the Nissan GT-R have a V6?

Adam

The Cadillac XTS has a V6, the Nissan GT-R has a V6 and a lot of other sports cars have a V6. But a lot of people look down on the Mustang V6. The Mustangs V6 is a 3.7 305 HP engine, which is better than most other V6 engines, so why the hate?

Answer
You can't beat the power of a V8? Sad to say BUT YOU ACTUALLY CAN! Especially if it's been detuned to a ridiculous level. I mean w/ mustangs in general while the big V8 muscle/pony cars were famous for power, somewhere between 1971 and maybe 2010 the base V8's in mustangs went to absolute hell. So while still being V8's they were weaker than the V6's in the last few gens of mustangs.

And I can personally vouch for that currently owning a V8 mustang that back in 1972 that even though it had a 351C in it (one of the famous ford V8's) that particular V8 only put out only about 180HP stock (less than a 94-04 V6)

And in a car that weighed a hair under 4000 lbs. SO as you can imagine, it did not make things much better. So it really goes without saying that it would be very easy to beat that back then.

And I'm sorry but to dump a bit more on the guy who said that. That comment is exactly what we're talking about and really is also case in point w/ this issue....the problem is your typical "V8 only idiot" just thinks a V8 equals more power than anything else...end of story. And usually doesn't understand that all engines are NOT created equal and that some engines can have more or less HP whether they have the same number of cylinders or not

And as said with a lot of these people they really are absolutely clueless when it comes to stuff like that to the point they are basically just pretending to be car enthusiasts, and really don't understand a word of what they're talking about.......other than the term "V8". But they will just dump on anything w/ anything less than a 8 cylinders any chance they get regardless of the facts.

And like I said it's common knowledge the I6/V6 is of course always the weakest option (except for the years w/ a 4-cyl) because not everyone who wanted to buy a mustang needs personal short coming compensating power and lousy gas mileage, lol

And while I can't really prove it. I personally suspect some of them had bad experiences w/ V6's or something when they were starting to drive and it must have made such a bad impression that they've just never been able to get over it.

....I know we get a ton of questions on here from clueless and poor 16yr olds asking over and over how to make the gutless/worthless 94-04 3.8L V6's faster. (which I will fully admit is a waste of time cause you can't do it for cheap) So w/ all those I can't help but think that it may be the case with at least a few of them out there.

But either way while the past few gens of V6's have agreeably been junk in terms of performance (given that they were not designed for it in the first place)

The good news with the current generation of V6, it's definitely a bit of a different story. The 2011+ V6's are the first V6's that have what most would call decent if not proper horsepower AND decent MPG....whereas before you always had to choose one or the other.

And actually if you look at the numbers in the specs. They end up having MORE HP than most base V8's had from about 71-04 (including the famous 5.0 form the 80's that had 225-235 max)

And actually have about the same as the 05-10 GT's had (between 300-315HP)

PLUS if you look at sales numbers on mustangs Ford has ALWAYS sold more V6's (and I6 pre-74) than any/all V8 versions they have ever offered so basically the 6's that these V8 only morons like to dump on so much are actually what keep their precious V8's in production (if not the entire brand itself)

So really they hate because as w/ any mindless bigot, they are just stuck in their cycle of irrational hate and just will not come out of it no matter what the facts may be.

Any problem for a car only cranking once and running immediately?

Joe

Usually when a car starts, engine cranks at least 2-3 times before it runs. But for my car (Toyota Corolla), most of time it only cranks once and then starts running immediately. Out of curiosity, is there any potential problem with it and if yes, what area I should check or verify or adjust? As far as I can remember, it has kind of always been so beginning from the new car. Now it has been 7 years. No powertrain related problem has so far noticed.

Answer
Thats actually really good news, it means your fuel and ignition system are in great shape! Whatever your doing for maintenance, keep it up.

How I let my mom use the computer/play a video game occasionally?

Kaan

I am a 14 year old almost 15 year old boy. I go to a private independent school and get decent grades (A, B). I do not ask for much regarding personally belongings. I do not ask for a phone, I do not ask for an idevice, I do not ask for a gaming console, I do not ask for expensive clothing. The only electronic I own and is where I get all of my entertainment is my higher end computer. Even this I did not ask my parents to pay for, I did.

What I usually do is browse youtube, watch some internet videos, look at the news, and occasionally play a video game. (50% Youtube, 30% gaming, 20% Other general things)

However, ever since mass shootings have occurred a bit more since last year or so, the media has started to blame video games for these things. I can go on a long rant on how this is not true but won't for the sake of your time.

My mother does watch quite a bit of news and sees these sorts of things. She is very overprotective in a way and takes things very seriously. So now, when I am using my computer, whenever I click more than a few times in a row she seems to get very paranoid that I'm playing a video game. Often she will run into the office and look at the computer screen to see if I'm playing a game. I do not understand this behavior, when I asked her why she has started this she mentions the media blaming video games and how she thinks I will become like the shooters. *facepalm*.

I have no mental health issues and have been raised more than properly concerning real life violence. In no way do the violent video games (that I seldom play) influence my behavior. She doesn't seem to understand this.

I get very sad when I think about this and how I don't ask for anything but my free computer usage. So even though I don't ask for much, I can not even play an occasional game violent or not. This also effects my everyday computer use since she gets concerned over every click I make. Buying a silent mouse is not the solution people

If you have made it this far, here is the question.
What can I do to make my mom calm down about video games influencing my behavior and how can I resume usage of my only electronic.

Thank You

A quick list of games I play if you're interested:
In order of most played to least:
Minecraft - Who doesn't? 60% of time
Alliance of Valiant arms - A free to play first person shooter 20-25% of time
Beamng.drive - A paid car engine simulator (physics of cars) - 20-25% of time
Grand Theft Auto IV - Most people believe this game contributes to violent shootings, I play it for the open world, sandbox feel; more for the car driving then the crime - 20%

As you can see not too much

Answer
You can also tell her that studies prove playing video games makes your mind smarter because it challenges your brain, makes you move faster and makes your problem solving skills better. Watching videos on youtube relieves stress. And reading things on the web makes a person smarter. If you want to pursue the argument print out or save some articles and show her. Say there is nothing wrong with you using the computer and say that most people that use the computer dont turn into shooters. Infact all those shooters either were 1) bullied, 2) grew up with abusive, alcoholic, drug addict parents, 3) had psychological issues. Those people that did shootings were troubled and people knew they were troubled before the shootings occured.

Can you run hydrogen car conversion below freezing?

HardTech

How do you keep the water from freezing? Any ideas or techincal info?

Answer
i'm assuming you're talking about the HHO assist cars that have a bottle of water that's used to make HHO gas. The water has a little electrolyte mixed in, much like your car battery. This allows current to flow through the water, yet lowers the freezing point well below freezing. you may be able to check to what temperature with an electrolyte tester.

Has anyone had experience converting a car to run on grease or electricity?

governorho

I am looking into getting a kit to convert a used car to either run on grease or to run on electricity. I'd like to know of the experiences that some others have had going either of these two routes. Thank you.

Answer
governor

i converted 1 car to run on ethanol, a truck tor un on biodiesel 2 cars to run on hydrogen and one electric. here's what info i have for you...

Ethanol doesnât go bad like petroleum itâs just Alcohol. Itâs what preserves your wine and gets better as the years go by.
Ethanol is a much cleaner fuel than petrol (gasoline):
It is a renewable fuel made from plants
It is not a fossil-fuel: manufacturing it and burning it does not increase the greenhouse effect
It provides high octane at low cost as an alternative to harmful fuel additives
Ethanol blends can be used in all petrol engines without modifications
Ethanol is biodegradable without harmful effects on the environment
It significantly reduces harmful exhaust emissions
Ethanol's high oxygen content reduces carbon monoxide levels more than any other oxygenate: by 25-30%, according to the US EPA
Ethanol blends dramatically reduce emissions of hydrocarbons, a major contributor to the depletion of the ozone layer
High-level ethanol blends reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 20%
Ethanol can reduce net carbon dioxide emissions by up to 100% on a full life-cycle basis
High-level ethanol blends can reduce emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) by 30% or more (VOCs are major sources of ground-level ozone formation)
As an octane enhancer, ethanol can cut emissions of cancer-causing benzene and butadiene by more than 50%
Sulphur dioxide and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions are significantly decreased with ethanol.
Lastly and my favorite.. It can be made at home.
It will cost about $1.10 to $1.20/gal to make the alcohol from various feed-stocks like corn, barley, potatoes, or Jerusalem artichokes. You will also have by-products which you can sell or use as animal feed, reducing the total cost down to about $.95/gal.

I currently run Bio Fuel (straight vegetable) in a 1999 Dodge 3500 truck. But all Cummins engines were modified from the factory to run on BioD since around 1992 without any modification.

Biofuel is recognized by both the US Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy as an alternative fuel, and qualifies for mandated programs under the Clean Air Act Amendments and the Environmental Protection Act of 1992 (EPAct).

USDA Clears Air with Biofuel: Buses and other diesel-burning vehicles run cleaner if they mix biofuel with regular diesel fuel, said the US Department of Agriculture at a biofuel fuel seminar at a USDA research center.

Conversely most major automotive manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, etc) recommend the use of bio fuels, and nearly every car manufacturer in the world approves ethanol blends in their warranty coverage.

In fact your probably even driving an ethanol car and didn't even know it.

The trick is finding fuel.

I've been producing biofuel for about 3 years now, it's not extremely difficult. Basically you need general household ingredients, a processor (or still for ethanol) and some used oil. Blend it, let separate, screen and use. I complied a guide a while back to help walk you threw the process step by step, just email me or check out..

Hydrogen is a great option for the concept of free energy. I built my first hydrogen cell about 5 years ago and now currently run 2 trucks, my home hot water heater, home stove and home generator on hydrogen for free with caught rain water and the help of a $10 solar panel. I offer a step by step DIY guide to walk anyone interested threw the process. You can find it at http://www.agua-luna.com/hydrogen.html or you can email me.

There are basically 3 safe ways to make and use it... chemically, electrically and molecularly, the first 2 being easier so I'll only discuss them here. The fallowing steps were taking directly out of a DIY guide I offer to those who would like to run their vehicles or home on hydrogen safely. The entire guide is available at http://www.agua-luna.com/guides.html

On demand h2 generators are a bit different from the Hollywood versions like seen Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves, that tend to explode violently every time a film is being made. However when used in an on-demand system there is no storage of hydrogen and oxygen in its gas form, only liquid (water) and is only transformed into gas âon-demandâ in small cylinder size amounts. Itâs actually safer then gasoline as it doesnât evaporate, creating explosive fumes in the tank like gas.

Chemically

1. Youâll need a 6inch x 1ft schedule 40 pvc pipe. With pvc cement glue a cap on the bottom and use a screw on cap for the top. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, screwing in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).
2. Now crunch up a couple aluminum cans (beer cans, soda cans etc) and drop them into the pvc pipe, along with a couple cups of lye (Red Devil drain opener has lye in it, some Clorox and Dranoâs do to).
3. Then simply add water, screw on the top and wait a few minutes.

What happens in simplicity is that aluminum and lye donât really get along so they battle, and as always the innocent civilians (water H2O) that the most casualties, by giving up its hydrogen and oxygen. This then builds up in the void of the pipe and is ready to be vented into your engine, by opening the valve. You may need to start your engine on gas then switch it off after the hydrogen starts burning.

Electrical is a bit easier then Chemically.

1. Simply take a small solar panel 1.5 amps is what I use ($9 at harborfreight.com), connect the 2 wires from the panel +- to 2 conductors (carbon cores of batteries work well, just be careful removing it from the jacket), but any conductive material will work ie. Copper, aluminum, steel, etc.
2. Drop the wires into a water tank (I use 55gal drums), make sure they donât touch each other.
3. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, screwing in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).
4. Then simply add water, screw on the top cap and wait.
After a few hours tiny bubbles will form and rise off one conductor (thatâs hydrogen) and even smaller bubbles that just looks like foam will rise off the other (oxygen). I donât remember which likes the positive and which likes the neg hydrogen or the oxygen.

The third method is more complicated and is what I use for my vehicles. Itâs just a modified Joeâs Cell, thereâs a step by step DIY guide available to walk you threw the process here http://www.agua-luna.com/hydrogen.html It also covers the other 2 methods described in more detail.

The one EV car I currently have (have 2 vehicles that run on hydrogen also) I converted from a vw bug and is free to charge. As I live completely off the grid all my electricity comes from solar panels and 2 wind generators, which I a;sp built.

However I did charge up at Costco in Carlsbad California (I actually only drove up there to fill up) if I remember right it was around $2.00

Hereâs a list of other places you can charge up, donât know if there are any prices though.

http://www.evchargernews.com/#regions

Not sure if youâre interesting in doing it your self, but Iâd be willing to walk you step by step threw the conversion. I've converted 3 of my own cars (a datsun truck, ford ban, and a vw bug) and a few for neighbors. I've also converted cars to run on hydrogen, ethanol and biodiesel, by far EV is the easiest.
If youâre interested hereâs what it would entitleâ¦

- The engine compartment is first cleaned out of any gasoline components.
- Electric components are then installed in exchange.
- A battery bank is built and incorporated.
- Existing starter and driving systems are connected.
- Turn the key, step on the gas pedal sending more energy to the electric motor, & thus more power to the drive system, which in return creates more speed, more acceleration.
- The system has normal automotive top speeds and acceleration, typical to the vehicle your modifying. If your top speed was 85 mph and your acceleration was 1 mile per min, then this will be what your left with after the conversion.

The methods are extremely simple, making the process possible for anyone, everyone, ANYWHERE.

Typical tools, hardware & supplies are used, making access to parts available for all.

Electric Conversions can be easily accomplished in ANY model vehicle, even tractors, Generators, types of machinery, etc.

Project lengths range from 1 day to 1 month.
If youâre interested I wrote a guide on it which is available at http://www.agua-luna.com/guides.html

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if youâd like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, Iâm willing to walk you step by step threw the process. Iâve written several how-to DIY guides available at http://www.agua-luna.com on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others help the environment.

Im a sinlge mother and my bills are more than my income. I seriously have to choose between food or car insurance. i cant take the bus to work the schedule doesnt work out....Im scared Im going to get pulled over. What do I do?
If I dont drive, I dont work, and my daughter and I will be homeless.
I cant beleive you people who have good jobs and education look at the world of poverty thru rose colored glasses. you sit up on your pedastool and judge someones situation without knowing the limitations im dealing with. I cannot take the bus to my job. To get there on time, it would take me 2 hours and 3 transfers and in order to do that I would have to leave at 5am and the busses dont run that early. A bike is not an option, its to far. cant get a scooter, I can afford it. My car is all I got and its only worth about 300 dollars. If I lose this job I will have my girl on the streets. I have to get to work! and no co workers will drive me.
So if I decide not to drive, I lose the job and then I will get judged for being on welfare.
Are there any 'po people I can talk to?

Answer
easy answer... don't drive

Picture this as a real likely scenario:

1) You are involved in or cause an accident in which you are to blame. Maybe a minor injury or two

2) The PD will tow your car - even it it is driveable since it has no insurance and you can not drive it. , the DMV jerks your license for no insurance.

Ok so much for the GOOD news.

You are responsible for the repair to the car you hit. Figure a modest $5 to $6k unless you hit a new car where even the wheels may cost $1 each. Eventually they will sue you for the bill and your check will be garnished. Now it is up to 50% less (net).

but wait .. there's more.

Remember that injury? Hospital stays are around $300/day PLUS the treatment. Figure a minor broken bone or two is going to cost around $10k.... guess who is paying.

and now lets get to the Pain and Suffering (not yours... theirs) an easy $10k maybe a LOT more).

Its going to be a looooong time before you see a full paycheck. If you buy a car, (let alone a house) it will be seized and sold to apply to the debt.

You think you are scared of being pulled over... dwell on this scenario for a bit and you will see that is the least of your worries.

Concerned.. ? This is not an extreme picture. In fact it is pretty realistic as others answering your question will likely echo.

Bottom line..

Take a bike, walk to work, get a motor scooter (which has cheaper insurance) find a co-worker or a ride share and save up the money to buy the insurance. There are a LOT of alternate transportation methods... not as convenient as a car but they ARE there... you are just choosing not to use them for one reason or another.

What happens to the cars that are buried in the snow?

Dan

Just out of curiosity, when cars get snowed in up to their roof, what happens to them? Do they count as a flood vehicle? I was just looking through some of the news headlines on Yahoo and saw a picture of a car buried in snow which made me wonder.
Well Matt why do YOU get a life? You coulda saved your self a whole minute and not put a sarcastic and dumba** answer! You obviously have no life...I pity you.

Did that make you feel better? Huh? Geez.

Answer
No, the snow is frozen, so it doesn't get into the car, and it melts slowly, when it does melt.

The snow would have to melt all at once, like it a couple of seconds and create a flood, which it can't do.

How do I sell a Calfornia registered car in Texas?

car info gov on ... Highsmith (December 2007) - Library of Congress Information Bulletin
car info gov image

DeadmanWal

So the car is new, and paid off. I am the titleholder and there is no lien. I appreciate any information!

Answer
The title has to be signed off according to California law. Then the car would be re-registered in Texas by the new owner.
This is from the California state site:
When selling a California registered vehicle, the registered owner of record must:
⢠Release ownership by signing on line one of the title.
If the vehicle is, or was financed, the lienholderâs name appears in the legal owner section and their release with counter signature is required on line two.
⢠Provide the purchaser with evidence of a valid smog certification, if applicable.
Smog certificates are good for 90 days from the date of inspection. The smog certification is not required if the owner or buyer signs a statement that smog certification was submitted with renewal fees within 90 days prior to the transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).

Recent legislation changed the requirements for vehicle transfers occurring on or after January 1, 2005. When you transfer a vehicle that is four or less model years old a smog certification will not be required. The four or less model years old rule does not apply to diesel powered vehicles. A smog transfer fee will be collected from the new owner. When a vehicle is more than four model years old, evidence of a current smog certification must be provided by a seller except when the following occurs: ⦠The transfer occurs between a spouse, domestic partner, sibling, child, parent, grandparent, or grandchild.
⦠A biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).

⢠Provide the odometer mileage if the vehicle is less than 10 years old (Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form, REG 262). If the title does not have a designated space for this information, a REG 262 reporting the odometer mileage must be signed by both the seller and buyer. The REG 262 cannot be copied. An original must be submitted. To obtain a form by mail, call DMV's automated phone service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-777-0133. To speak to an operator call between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday, Pacific Standard Time, or pick one up from your local DMV.
â¢Protect Your Liability. Complete a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. The seller is responsible for reporting the change of ownership to DMV within 5 days from the date of sale. After DMV updates the information from the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability, you will be cleared from future liability on the vehicle. The purchaser is responsible for reporting the change of ownership to DMV within 10 days from the date of purchase.

What courses do I need to become a car designer or engineer?

Sarah

Well, I'm a typical 16 year old girl and really want to become either a car designer or engineer. What high school courses do I need to become either or?

Answer
Someone who designs cars may have majored in mechanical engineering at a college or university. Most engineers have at least a bachelor's (four-year) degree. Perhaps you can take high school classes such as drafting and computer design. An engineer should be strong in the sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, and physics) as well as math (e.g., algebra, trigonometry, and calculus), too.

Please also seek advice from your school counselor re: (regarding) recommended courses for the upcoming school year.

With regard to schooling after high school, please *avoid* those private overly priced For-profit schools such as devry, ITT tech, strayer, Everest, capella, university of phoenix, grand canyon, penn foster, argosy, Colorado tech, ashford, heald, Sanford brown, regis, brown Mackie, keiser, art institute, concorde career, national american university, pima medical, Stratford career, ashworth, full sail and others. Their course credits usually do ** NOT ** transfer to other schools, even if the for-profit school is regionally accredited as opposed to only nationally accredited.

This consumer site has a lot of negative posts by former students of those for-profit schools, and please heed the students' warnings: http://www.complaintsboard.com and can search.

Please instead consider the more affordable (and usually more reputable) community college and/or state-public university as long as the program is accredited within the industry. Just an fyi that "American public university" is a for-profit school.

For U.S. colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

This site is supposed to have accredited programs in engineering, technology and computers (though please still forgo those for-profit schools): http://www.abet.org

today i was driving at night about to enter a freeway, & from out of no where a guy on his bike crosses right in front of me, and i crash into him... im not going to drive off & just leave him there so i park my car off to the side & he starts yelling at me, so i can see that he wasnt badly injured if he was able to walk fine... he asks me for money ("to keep his mouth shut") but i'm not going to give him a penny if he didnt even check to see if a car was coming. even if he has the right of way. I understand that. but who be dumb enough to cross a street entering a freeway ramp without looking? its like trying to beat a train crossing the tracks. anyways he said he didnt want to call the cops but he would if he had to so he just got my phone number & license plate number. & said that he would call me in 2 days so we can settle it "like friends"... but i know he is just going to try to sue me. Anyways my question is how bad will i get it in court? if he wasnt paying attention crossing the street, i couldnt see him because it was night time. he asked me for a bribe, & im required to wear glasses, which i was... & no i wasnt under the influence. Please i need help!!! My mom said that when he calls me to ask him for his info & that my insurance will give him a call. & he'll probably ignore it after because he doesnt have US citizenship. i'm not being racist. i'm mexican as well as he was... I know im F'd either way because pedestrians do have the right of way. i just wana know how bad will i get it

Answer
A cyclist is not a pedestrian. A bicycle is a vehicle and the operator has the same rights and responsibilities as any other driver.

Secondly, no cyclist comes 'out of nowhere'. You failed to see him and you hit him. If, as you say, he had the right of way, you're at fault. Be more careful!

The good news (for you) is that, unless there were witnesses, this guy probably won't make a penny from the accident. The bad news (for everyone) is that there are so many drivers like you on the road who basically don't know the rules of the road, don't pay attention, and endanger other people's lives.

@eric: it is NOT illegal for a cyclist to cross over a freeway on-ramp. A cyclist has a right to travel on any road except limited access roads (i.e. freeways). This cyclist was not on the freeway, so he was perfectly legal.

How do you think the man that shot the motorcyclist should be charged?

Elise

Here's the news story:
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/stories/2008/02/27/motorcyclist_0227.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab

In my opinion, the girls should be charged as well. They obviously endangered his life with their driving, did damage to his bike and he was more than likely trying to get their insurance info. That sounds like a hit and run. The idiot father who shot them should have trained his girls better so yeah, he does need to be in jail for murder.
That is such a horrible situation.
I can't believe those girls... they actually said that the man ran his motorcycle into their car. They need to be in jail WITH their dad.

Answer
MOST LIKELY
another case of a person driving a car, not paying attention and nearly killing a person on a motorcycle. The cyclist was wrong in following them, he should have gotten plate # and filed an official complaint.
He was wrong, but his mistake should not have cost him his life.
By all accounts, the "daughters" were safe at home when the incident occurred. The shooter should be charged with second degree murder and should spend Several years incarcerated. The daughters will suffer enough knowing their idiocy has cost their father his freedom

What should I expect for my Saab warranty?

car news bmw image

I keep looking at the news trying to find out what exactly is going on with the brand. I have an 2007 9-3 and have been really satisfied my car. My family has had Lexuses, Cadillacs, BMW's and Audis and I feel my Saab has been comparable in ways to them.

Worst-case scenario, the company's reorganization fails and ultimately is phased out like Pontiac, what will happen to my current warranty? Am I better off just selling my car now?

Answer
Do NOT sell your car right now. Even if Saab goes under (which I can 99.9% guarantee it will not) your warranty is a contract that they cannot go back on. They will still take care of you, trust me. But don't worry, Saab has a few serious buyers interested in the brand and I would not be surprised if it's sold by the end of June, if not May.

How are the other American car manufacturers doing?

Q. I checked, and the Big Three are NOT the only American made cars! BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Nissan all have manufacturing centers here in the United States. So how are they doing? Are they going bankrupt, and approaching the government with pleas of travesty and woe if they don't get a handout? Are the laws different for these companies? How come we aren't hearing anything about them in the news?

Answer
Because they manufacture quality products, most of them are located in the south, and they're not unionized. We're not bailing out the big 3, we're bailing out the UAW.

The average hourly compensation for the Big Three ($73.20)
Toyota ($48.00)...

compare this to the average hourly compensation for Management and Professional Workers ($47.57),
Manufacturing/Goods Producing ($31.59)
and all workers ($28.48),

Answer
TomTom 720 , Cost aroud $399 I have a TomTom 720 and for me the deciding factor was for the price the TomTom has more features , bluetooth, hand free calling and traffic update including weather from your cell phone , as this may not sound like something you'd be interested in, the one time you look at some POI and you can call them right from the gps screen its worth it, if you are in trouble you can phone the police or tow truck right from the TomTom screen, TomTom uses tele-atlas it more up to date than garmins navteq maps ,oh and TomTom uses mapshare so you can allways have the most up to date maps ,FM transmitter plays you MP3's, audio books and text to speech right over your FM stereo in your car , you can link any search from google maps by selecting send to gps device(only works with TomTom) and save it to your favorites and open later when running your unit so it will take you right there, help me feature works well to locate a police station or call them also for other emergency services,
TomTom is the most popular GPS system in the world , in europe they don't call it a GPS they call it a TomTom, I went to my friends house last night and I know he lives in a new sub-division so I typed the address into the TomTom and there it was, the address not to mention the whole east part of that city didn't even show up on his garmin , he's going out to buy a TomTom after christmas and try to sell his garmin. Anyway I hope that helps, P.S next time you see a police or ambulance ask them which GPS they use. and then go out and buy youself a TomTom and be happy....Ren

What Is The Best Child GPS Tracking Service?

There seems to be quite a few and I was hoping to narrow it down a little.

Answer
You are right...There are dozens of child monitoring services available. What it comes down to is what features you want. The most basic of child GPS units are just that...basic! If your child has the unit on him/her, you can track the location via your computer and thats all. There was a recent article on CNN about child GPS tracking devices and the most highly rated was a system called Amber Alert GPS (http://www.Important.biz)

I can't remember all the details, so I am copying some of the info from their website...

Features include:

Safe Zone: Define a virtual boundary (safe zone) around your neighborhood, school or any where you choose. Receive an alert when your AAGPS is carried outside of that safe zone. You will continue to receive safe zone alerts by text and email (you choose) every 5 minutes giving you a bread crumb location trail. The safe zone can easily be changed or cancelled in seconds from your cell phone or from our website.

Maps:Introducing the new Amber Alert GPS 2G. The worldâs smallest, most powerful GPS tracking device. Tracking your child is as easy as placing a call or sending a text. Simply place this device in a pocket, purse, backpack or car, or attach to a wrist, ankle, or belt. Call or text the AAGPS device, and within seconds youâll receive a detailed map and address of their exact location right on your web-enabled phone. You can also track one or more devices from your computer.

SOS Button:If your child is in a dangerous or threatening situation, or has a medical emergency, they can press and hold the SOS button. The device will then send a âHELP MEâ text and email to 5 trusted individuals that you have predetermined. The text and email will contain the street address and map link. A âHELP MEâ text and email containing their current or updated location will be sent to all users every 5 minutes until the emergency is resolved.

Destination Alert:Do you want to be notified when your child arrives at school, soccer practice, or the mall? You can with our latest feature: Destination Alert. Destination Alert allows the parent to define an area on a map, and receive notification by text and/or email when the child arrives. It's easy and it gives you one more tool to keep your child safe!

And many, many more features.

So, in answer to your question, The "best" child tracking GPS would be the Amber Alert GPS system.

A family member of mines bought two cars from this car dealer,I told him to find me a car at a certain price and he did and sent me the info on the car so I got approved for a car loan from my bank, and I gave him the check to purchase the car and he supposedly did and had it delivered I asked him and he said it takes no more then a month to have it delivered from California to Washington dc.Its been over a month and I still haven't received my car and ive already paid one car note and about to pay a second one and I don't have a car yet.I called my bank and they said once you give them the check and they deposit it there nothing the bank can do,Any help on what I should do next?

Answer
It sounds like someone is not being honest with you. You have probably been scammed. You should call whoever you gave the money to and find out what is gong on. You should start tracking people down and tracking the car down. You should find out if the check has been cashed or deposited yet. If it hasn't then I would cancel it. Somehow, you have g to get to the bottom of this and get your check back r get your car.

What is the diffrence between a car that has four wheel or all wheel drive?

Michael Ja

I'm a bit confused about that. What really is the difference between 4 wheel drive and all wheel drive? Which drives better through snow & ice? Any info would be great.

PS. I looked at an SUV and on the windshield it had a car dealer stICKER THAT SAID 4X4 BUT when i checked on car fax the same car wa listed as an all wheel drive?!?

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Answer
Merry Christmas to you too!!! Too bad your new vehicle won't fit under the tree, but maybe the seller will put a bow on it for you!

There is a technical difference between AWD and 4WD (4x4), but for most of the buyers, it doesn't matter what they call it. Either system will do just fine in most all conditions except if going off-road or using it on a farm. For typical snow and ice driving, either AWD or 4WD (4x4) is fine.

The problem with car fax and some of the things you may read is that many don't understand the difference so they just say there is no difference.

If you would like to know about the differences, then read on...

AWD- Engine power can go to any one wheel or any combination of the four wheels automatically when a wheel starts to slip on loose surfaces. Power is not equally distributed to all wheels all the time. This is a benefit because most situations do not require all the wheels driving and by reducing the number of drive wheels, you get better gas mileage and better dry road handling characteristics. (It doesn't drive like a truck.) This system requires no driver input and is completely automatic.

4WD- There are two types of 4WD. Part time and Full time. Both of which utilize a 'transfer case' which is like a second transmission that allows for ultra-slow driving or crawling (as off-roaders like to call it).

-Full TIme 4wd. This is an automatic system similar to AWD in that NOT all the wheels have engine power all the time, but only when wheels are slipping. This type of drive arrangement is primarily rear wheel drive, but shifts power to the front wheels as needed.

-Part Time 4wd. You engage the vehicle into 4wd when needed, but the vehicle is usually left in 2wd (which would be rear wheel drive). Depending on the model and options, this is the ONLY type of 4WD system that has the wheels locked together so that all four wheels turn at the same time ALL the time. The transfer case lever or switch is usually labeled 2Hi - 4 Hi - 4 Lo.

If you care to know more about these systems, feel free to email me from my profile page. I can bore you to tears with discussions of axle and center differentials, axle and drive ratios and all the technical jargon that comes with it.

Happy New Year!

What can I do about this contract agreement?

car info 1 image

alanricouk

I'll write in bullet points to save space, and less confusing. Need any more info, ask.

1. Needed a car. Went to carcraft, bought a car off them. £100 deposit, £2,900 cash, and £2,500 finance off them. Contract signed, and drove home.

2. When I bought the car, it cam with their 3 month warrenty, and I bought another 3 years off them, on top of that.

3. One and half months later, the engine blew up on motorway. I took it to them, they said it needs a new engine, and they will fix it. I said fine. One and half months into their warrenty.

5. 9 weeks later I still havent got my car back. In theory, there warrenty has ran out, and its running on mine now. I am paying for a car I dont have, nothing

6 I want to cancel the agreement, but looking at the contract, it says I have to pay half the finance to cancel, which means bye to my £3000.

Do I have a right to ask for it back on the grounds that I feel they are incompetent, and have failed me on their part of the agreement of a seller?

Answer
9 weeks and no car is excessive!

Get a Lawer and sue them!!

tom_carla

I'm planning on buying a car within the next 6 months. I really like Audis a lot but I've heard good and bad things about them. I like the A4, but if they're too much of a hassle I'll look at something else.

Answer
I'm assuming you like the Audis because of their looks, performance, interiors, etc. Yes, they are quite excellent in these aspects (especially the interiors, which are really attractive).

As far as reliability, maintenance, service - there's good and bad news. The A4 in recent years has become a more relia ble model, probably more so than the A6, its bigger brother. I think Consumer Reports has rated them to be at least average or better than average - which is based on ownership surveys. Are you buying new or used? If you can get new, or at least a certified pre-owned, you will have some things covered.

Whatever model you get, in any case, you will really need to pay strict attention to maintenance schedules. Audis aren't cars that you can just forget about in terms of regular maintenance - they are German luxury/performance cars. They are not cheap to maintain or fix. You can save quite a bit on service costs if you go to an independent garage as opposed to a dealer service center, but it will never be like getting a Honda or Ford serviced in terms of cost.

I would suggest you get in contact with local Audi clubs who can advise you about their experiences with ownership and where to find good service facilities. Good luck!

What does it mean to find a dead bird on your doorstep?

Q. Today I found a tiny blue tit tucked under my front door. My cat died a month ago so it couldn't of been her. Also, I have like a mini roof thing on top of my front door so there's no way it could have fell on the doorstep. The car is also directly in front of the driveway so I doubt it flew into the door. I heard some superstitions and that it represents death, is this true?

Answer
It represents death but death represents change too. You might want to see what this particular bird means as an animal totem.

I found some information online for you. For me if the animal message is coming from a dead one than there is a change coming that relates to that animals "totem traits". So for example if a particular bird talks about prosperity then a dead one of those birds could be talking about a change in career, receiving money from a death, pulling out of an investment etc.

So focus on your life and see what's going on in relation to the bird's meaning and then add the element of the fact that it's dead which most times is referring to change, endings which bring new beginnings etc. and not death.

In this case here's what I found online:

A few years ago I bought a second hand Vogel Orakel, a German oracle deck with real and mythological birds.
This is what the book says about the blue tit (in short):

Sign of emotion.
Affirmation: everything new inspires me.

You are always looking for new things to inspire you. Communication and exchange are vital for you. Your curiosity is endless, which may bring you to many new places. You like to find out secrets from other people - but consider, that if you do, you also gain a part of their life energy. Be careful that you have no more than a healthy curiosity and don't use it to fill an emptiness inside yourself.
You are a source of vitality for friends and neighbours. All the people in your surroundings are important to you.

You love the interaction with others, and enjoy the lighter side of life.
At the moment you should just go with the flow, which will give you strength and harmony.

http://www.tarotforum.net/archive/index.php/t-80615.html
******************************************************************

There is more to that thread above if you go to the link.

Here is the interpretation I like but I wanted to give you some options:

Blue tit
Perseverance, quick reaction, problems, joy, positive news, attention to detail. It is important that you act quickly with any problems or difficult situations, this will avoid bigger problems. You will receive some surprising and positive news, important to pay attention to small details especially with anything legally binding. There will be several opportunities for enjoyment and fun, take full advantage of them. A time to be aware of all what is going on around you, and not to take risks or be complacent.

http://www.theseer.com/totems-birds.htm

So with the above considered, maybe find the message that relates to you and take the message a little more seriously than you normally would and fit in the element of change.

Is There A Car Maintenance Course For Women?

car maintenance info on Engine Repair at Butler Automotive
car maintenance info image

cats

Does anyone know if there are any basic car maintenance courses that a woman can take either in person or online? I live in the New York/New Jersey area? I have a new car and want to learn as much as possible since I don't want to be ripped off by mechanics.

Answer
There are lots of shops that put on car care seminars, usually focused towards women. They really do want to help you understand, because people who understand about their vehicles and are knowledgable about the basics and such, are more likely to take care of thier vehicles and trust mechanics on larger jobs, because they understand what is going on. So don't think that just because it is put on by a shop, that they don't really want to help you.
They usually teach you the basics about car care, what needs maintenance, how to inspect the vehicle yourself and do basic car care, then they go over your specific vehicle with you and point out important things and what to do. They usually also give you tips on dealing with shops, what to ask, what to do, how to make sure you aren't getting ripped off, etc.
Not all mechanics are a rip off, in fact many of them really do care. They take pride in their work and want to do the job right. Not many other people, in many other jobs, are required to purchase thousands of dollars worth of tools, equipment, training, etc. just to get a good job. But they can be hard to find sometimes...

Anyhow you can find some of these shops online, at carcare.org which helps shops put on seminars like this. You may find them in advertisements as well. Being in a large area like you, I think they would be pretty easy to find. Even if a shop isn't currently putting one on right now, they may be willing to give you a private lesson, or you and some friends. At our shop we will gladly set up appointment times, after work, to help our customers learn about their vehicles... I am sure you could find someone around you that does the same thing, so ask some of your friends and family who they use as a mechanic, and if they know if they offer anything like that.

Also, since you are in a large area, there might be other people who put something on like that. Almost all community colleges put on courses as well, usually not expensive and easy times for people to attend. There are also many books available to help you learn about this stuff. Some websites I like are:

http://www.innerauto.com/Automotive_Systems/Electrical_System/Spark_Plug_Wire/ (Go to the bottom and you will find animations and info about different systems on the vehicle)

http://www.acdelco.com/index.jsp (go to parts information on the top, or maintenance and there are a few links to good information about the different systems, maintenance, how to know when they need service or repair, etc.)

And autozone.com has some helpful things as well. You can actually select your vehicle information and see some repair guides and get reminders about maintenance.

Or another site, which costs about 25 dollars a year, is http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html (take a look at the demo and see what information it can give you. It has all the info from the owner's manual and much more, a very good site specific for your vehicle.)

What is a good site to get general car maintenance info for free?

I'm looking for a site that I can research part numbers, air pressures and general information about keeping my car running smooth. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dbuga

I get tired of listening to music/podcasts and just got a car and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any talk/news radio stations (AM or FM) or any other non-music recommendations regarding that. Thanks.

Answer
560 KSFO is really good and has been around a long time. You can listen online, podcasts and on the am car radio. Lots of big names on there like Rush, Hannity and Levin. They sponsor events and are involved with the community of the Bay Area. It's "Conservative" talk where you'll get the truth and not biased Liberal opinions like on PBS.

Does anyone remembers The John and Jeff show on radio?

Christophe

I am still, as of October 2013, wondering what happened to John and Jeff. I used to listen to them every night when I went to sleep, but still no update after a year and a half of being absent. Does anyone have any news on what happened to them? I even called in a few times and I really love their show. It was amazing. If anyone has any clue on what might of happened please do let me know. Thanks.

Answer
I am a really big fan of John and Jeff show too. I really missed their show so much! Jeff is always funny, loves cars, and lovable guy. John is full of knowledge on stocks, great on debate, and always give great advises to many callers. They work so well as a team. I remember them as the TWO Guys with lots of common senses. I learned many things through life from listening to their shows for 11 years. They are so good that I downloaded all their podcasts from itune and listen to it over and over again. Is it legal to put business cards on cars?

How can I find out if it is legal to put business cards on cars in my area? What about cars on the street, in apartment building parking lots, strip mall parking lots, government parking lots such as the library, etc?

Answer
Just telling the facts, not being a witch. I was witness in a courthouse debate last year when a woman was charged with loitering and vandalism after placing her business cards on cars in parking lots at stores and a hotel. I saw firsthand how annoyed people can get when someone is brasin enough to just walk up and touch thier vehicle and place their personal belongings on someone's 'private property-thier vehicle'. Many people would not use a service or business that is tactless enough to grab someone's doorhandle, windshield wiper, ect and put things in them to make money for themselves. if stores or apartment managers find your trash lying on thier lots, after people toss them off thier cars in disgust, you get the littering bill. What if someone sees you, someone that isn't so nice and understanding? *alot of people are like that-watch the news* What if you set off an alarm? In front of people even? What if someone thought you were trying to break thier wiper or break into thier vehicle? Sounds extreme, but people these days are looking for reasons to sue or start a physical fight. i know that if you get caught touching government vehicles without a darn good excuse, you can get a nice fine, and they can take you in for questioning of "radical activity" sounds like loads of fun. How about just taking the safe route and putting up an ad? Even in the paper, bulletins, or telephone poles.

How likely is it that a train derails, going 23 mph?

chase

Just in recent news of the train derailment in Ohio, I was just curious.
1) How often trains derail?
2) What are the major causes?
3) Why does it take 1 month to investigate a train derailment, but takes 2-3 days to get the train off the tracks?

Answer
Good question.

For clarity, a derailment can be as simple as one wheel off the rail, or can pile up dozens of cars with disastrous ecological consequences and/or the death of many people. As for the former, there is probably a wheel off the rail somewhere as you are reading this. In many cases where damage is very slight, there is no investigation and in many cases aren't even required to be reported to a government agency..

For the latter, they make the headlines. One should back away from any notion that a high speed is required for nasty circumstances. Untrue. So 23 mph means little, unless that given speed was excessive for the track speed or other speed restriction. I assure you, at less than the speed of a Sunday drive down the country lane, it can still have disastrous results.

Inertia is the culprit. 20 mph is very slow to you in your car, but let us consider a freight train. The average is around 10,000 tons, 13,000 and up for unit trains, such as those carrying grain or coal. But, those are just numbers, so we'll put it into perspective. The average naval destroyer in WWII was about 3,000 tons, as I understand it. So, at 13,000 tons, it is like four US naval destroyers, on roller bearings, with practically no friction when compared to navigating the sea, and packing a huge punch, even at that seemingly snail like 20 mph speed. That train is going to keep moving until the inertial energy is expended and pile up as it does so... even if in slow motion. That is, on level ground. The stakes go waaaay up if descending a grade when the derailment occurs. Entire trains have derailed as a result. The SP train wreck in San Bernadino was one such train.

Let's look at part three here. After initial on scene investigation is complete, the imperative is to get the traffic moving. Extensive delays can create a snowball effect effecting many more miles of railroad than the quarter mile torn up. The BIG cats come in, shove it all over the place like toy cars, and when everything is aside, prefabricated track panels are laid down, often called a "shoo fly," put some ballast under it and get everything moving as soon as safe and practical. They cut up what's left with torches, pick up all the scrap iron, make permanent repairs to roadbed, and another derailment is in the books. Usually. Google the derailment at Cantara Loop in California. A spilled chemical killed everything living in or off the water, for a 25 mile stretch of the Sacramento River. If I remember correctly, that train was doing around 16 mph, and on heavy ascending grade.

It took much longer that a month to determine the cause in that case. In the case where the train blew the hell out of everything in Roseville, Ca, on April 28th, 1973, that was about two and one half years or so to close out..

Data is gathered, then it takes quite a while to figure it all out. So many variables, each that may or may not effect the other... it's a mess, so it takes a while to put it all back together, kind of like rebuilding an airliner to see what factors were and were not at play. If you've never been to a derailment site of any magnitude you cannot appreciate how it tears the crap out of everything. Cars pile up, trucks come off, sometimes three layers high, springs, lading, roadbed all co-mingled... it's pretty amazing.

The causes? Broken wheel, broken drawbar, broken rail (usually in winter when rail pulls apart due to the frigid temperatures), wide gage, thin flange, damaged switch, vandalism, poor train handling (often creating that broken drawbar) improper train make up, excessive tonnage, excessive speed, man failure, "sun kink" (the opposite of a winter pull apart, high heat causes excessive expansion that can cause the rail to lift and basically turn in to Spaghetti), collision at a grade crossing, brake failure, rules violation, poor roadbed, fire, ice buildup on tracks, washouts, rock slides, bridge failure, flooding, tornado (that one is on YouTube and should be required viewing for all, as it demonstrates perfectly why a train doesn't stop so well... well, the head end does, but see what catches up. I think "tornado train" will do it), high wind (doesn't have to be a tornado or hurricane, either), fatigued crewmen, undesired application of emergency brakes (called a UDE), usually due to a ruptured air hose or one that has come uncoupled for some reason...

There is probably more, but my vino cooler is in need of a refill.

It really was a good question.

Why does the average liberal's ideology not make too much sense?

Liberals will actually take the time to block Fox News from their cable or satellite channels. Why? Is an opposing view so offensive that it must be shunned even at the cost of more choice? Why wouldnât a liberal want to know what the other point of view is? How can you learn and grow if you refuse to allow your points of view to be challenged?

Liberals will tell you Wallstreet is ruining America. Then quote Wallstreet elite when they are trying to convince you the stimulous is working. A liberal regime will hire Wallstreet elite to control the treasury. Wallstreet and government are so intertwined it is difficult to untangle the mess they have made. If âChange you can believe inâ¦â meant more Wallstreet control of government â Obama kept that promise. If Wallstreet is ruining America, why would a liberal government integrate them further into positions of vast power?

Do liberals really want an improved standard of living for all Americans? The answer here can only be: âNoâ. Any rational look at the wealth of nations and standards of living will clearly demonstrate less government builds wealth for all. Liberals should be clear â they want equality over actual quality. Yes, we can all live a somewhat economically equal existance, but it will be a low standard. The upper middle class in the Soviet Union was allowed a 2 bedroom apartment and public transportation. The lower middle class in America has 3 bedrooms and 2 cars! Yes, the super rich would live a lifestyle far in excess of the lowest rungs. However, even the lowest rungs will have food, shelter, and most importantly: the opportunity to succeed.

Liberals seem to spit in the face of logic when it comes to results. Obama set expectations for what the stimulous would do and not do. Unemployment was not supposed to go over 8% if we approved the stimulous. Unemployment has exceeded 8% even using the ridiculously understated US Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers. Most economists examing the data are arriving at figures 50% higher. So what is the logical solution? Itâs obvious to rational people that the stimulous did not deliver as promised, try the opposite â give the money back to the people. For liberals, the answer is âmore of the sameâ.

Liberals claim to value science. This might be news to liberals, but science and science fiction are two different things. Science is a rigorous system of observation, testing, data analysis, and finally a conclusion. How would that system apply to government? Easy â reduce federal power. Allow the states to test theories of government within their borders. Winners and losers will quickly stand out. Testing aggressive government programs by forcing the entire nation to adopt them is insanity, not science. Dispite the massive consolidation of power, we do have some examples among the states that stand out. Oregon has the highest unemployment in the nation â so should we copy what they are doing? Liberals say âYes!â Oregon has the highest minimum wage, the federal government is going to force that wage on all of the states. If liberals have decided to use science to destroy America, they are on the right track. Recklessly experimenting on the entire population is a recipe for disaster. Choosing the worst examples and emulating their programs nationwide seems to indicate a desire to create negative results.

Why do liberals think this way?

Note to republicans: Donât consider this post an endorsement. After all, it was you idiots that screwed things up so bad that America thought voting in liberals was a rational idea.
@Durango: I am a complete libertarian... so calling this post "conservative propaganda" makes you seem very foolish.

Answer
1. Fox news is like coke claiming to be healthy and quenches your thirst.
2. WallStreet was responsible for the crash hence they are ruining AMerica! They help created futures and other trading schemes that do not help normal Americans.
3. Liberals will try to help everyone increase the standard of living to a certain extent. Now just the wealthy pay one of the lowest tax rates since the Eisenhower era perhaps they should tax ed like the middle class.
4. Historically spending is what takes a country out of a recession. Obama had too much hope but and could not comprehend the extent of Bush's recession. ( imagine that you are only looking at the tip of the iceberge.
5. Speaking of science why are you talking about Oregon? Why would a worldwide recession not affect Oregon? You can reduce government anytime during the Boom years .

question about my characters death - UK laws?

Maddi

My character, who is a police officer.
She was on a police chase and killed in the chase. Everyone from the car she, and her colleague, died.

Im telling the story from her husbands perspective so need these questions answering to fit with the UK law.

What would happen, legally, afterwards?
Would there be a trail, even though the other characters died?
When would the characters body be released?
What there be support to the characters husband, maybe in the form of a family laiason officer?
How long would the husband be entitled to have time off work after her death?

And what are the rules with death certificates?

As she was his wife, would he have to do anything to end the marriage so that he can remarry later on in life? (which i am intending for the character at the end)

Also, what injuries would kill the character instantly? I don't want her surviving for any amount of time after the crash as i dont know enough medical things to write about all that.

i know that it's a huge question but i think it is a very good plot and i would love to write something other than romance and horror.

thanks for any help in advance
I'm from the UK - England

Answer
when someone dies a family member, or failing that, has to register the death.
the best thing to do is to google each separate thing- eg- register a death-
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Death/WhatToDoAfterADeath/DG_10029642

one is usually entitled to 2 wekes of work following a death, but it can be extended- you'd need a doctor's note.
the police do look after their own, and three would prob be a family liason officer- shouldhre husband want to have one- an interesting plot point- since the officer may well know both of the dead coppers, the husband may not want to have to speak to someone.

think about what happens on csi and on the news- you know all this;- there is a 'trail' if there have been witnesses- electronic- satnav, cctv, or human- eye witnessness, phone/radio conversation at the time.
they may also haev atracking device in the car. phones give out a signal.
if they died in a rural area, it'd be different.
high speed chases are often accompanied by helecopters, which film the entire thing- there are countless late night crappy shows- eg- nightwatch- showing just this on itv and channel 5.

if you want to know about method of death- google car crash, died instantly, etc. people are even killed by air bags- you can do some really gruesome research.
her body would be released by the coroner when they had finished with it- ie following the post mortem (called autopsy in the US)- i have particually enjoyed the work of the coroners in inspector morse and lewis- get them out on dvd.

you can find out most of this by googling, and it'd throw up loads more ideas. watch lewis and morse anyway- great tv series.
