My car is struggling to accelerate?

Cocaine

I just got back from a really long trip, and ever since my car struggled to accelerate while leaving stop lights and signs and then eventually it died while I was sitting at a red light. Does this sound like an alternator problem?

Answer
Not the alternator. Really need more info to isolate the problem. If the check engine light is on then go to a parts store. Most of them will read the code(s) for free. Post the year, make, model and codes as well as detailed info about the car's behavior so we can try to figure it out.

Transfer car title info?

My father in law gave me his old car for free. What do I do to transfer the title to my name.Thank you.

Answer
Well each state is different when it comes to title transfer, but i live in New Mexico and work for the DMV. Here we think its easier to use a Bill of Sale which you can find online most of the time or pick up at your local DMV. Whoever sold/gave you the car just fills it out and you take that and the title into the DMV with you drivers license or ID and insurance card. Where the amount goes the seller would just put GIFT. So you dont get charged sales tax so all you would pay is the registration and title fee. At least thats how we do it here! Hope this helps

Do you think this is possible that everyone has an electric car?

taljalea

http://realestate.msn.com/6-easy-ways-to-get-your-garage-ready-for-a-plug-in-car?GT1=35009&wa=wsignin1.0
It is not just affording the car, there is where to put the thing once you got it. I for one live in an upstairs apartment building and there are no set electric plugins for a car to be plugged into. So for people who live in multiplexes as I do where do we plug in?
Breath On The Wind--What about those people who live in the middle of no where on dirt roads? Some of them live so remotely that there is barely electric lines to have electricity in their homes. Also there are still places here in the world were people still have no electric, no running water, and outside bathrooms called an outhouse....explain to me how that is going to work for those people too? I have to remind you I live in an apartment complex. We have more of a parking lot than a street. The company that owns this place would have to agree to put in those charging stations first. And you are talking about all electric everything to run vehicles....what about the power stations that can not handle the use of electric now? How is that to be fixed in order to have electric highways, streets, and parking spots?

Answer
You seem to be asking how it will be possible for people to charge an electric car who do not own a garage. Can you recall seeing a WWII movie where the mobile communication device fit into a backpack on one of the soldiers backs? http://www.navy-radio.com/xmtr-ww2-port.htm Even as recently as 25 years ago we refereed to the "Brick" telephones ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7432915/ns/technology_and_science-wireless/t/first-cell-phone-true-brick/ )that would remain charged for only about 20 minutes unless they were plugged into your car. Someone may have asked then how is someone going to own a phone if they don't have a car.

Technology changes and as it does it begins to reach more people. Presently the best way to charge an electric car is with a garage based charging station. Although the Volt will not charge its batteries the plug in prius may. It is possible to configure a "sometimes series hybrid by putting a generator on the back of the vehicle to charge batteries.1 The power source may not be a petrol generator but a fuel cell (2) or solar panels (3) to add charge to batteries.

There are plans to add many more public charging stations on the streets. Presently we use wired connections but it is possible to wirelessly charge a vehicle like an electric toothbrush.4 From wireless charging it is a short technological step to electrified roadways and electric vehicles with unlimited range, no charging times, no need to stop for charging and continue to have the clean, quiet, highly efficient, and virtually maintenance free vehicle that electric vehicles promise.5

EDIT: To your additional concerns: There will always be some who do not use electric cars as there are some who continue to use horses or walk for transportation. It may be personal preference, price or circumstances. Even when laws are passed that dictate that everyone must do... not everyone does. Some will make lifestyle changes for the choices they prefer. We frequently do change our living arrangements for marriage and family issues. Or we make do in some way. A clever EV owner might make arrangements to house their vehicle with a nearby private home owner. But it it doesn't work for you or you don't care to own one then you will pursue other options. I don't think anyone expects 100% of the population to purchase an EV tomorrow if they were available.

Our electric grid is stressed for daytime peak usage. 84% of the present fleet of vehicles could be charged at night off peak if they were switched to electric. http://www.greenbiz.com/news/2006/12/11/mileage-megawatts-enough-grid-capacity-charge-plug-vehicles

Why do you often see >10 American police cars chasing one car?

Tom

Surely 3 police cars is the most that would be needed. I was just watching the following video on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2007/09/07/vo.truck.chase.ktrk

Answer
That's not normal. The reason that it was on the news is because it was a strange event.
If someone refuses to stop for police and starts running, usually they call every available car to chase them.. they want to make sure the person won't get away.

Should i buy a Bugatti Veyron V 16.1?

Aem

Hi,my birthday is just some mounths later in the summer and i want to buy a super car and spend 2 Million dollars for it.should i buy bugatti veyron V 16.1 or another brands like the ferrari's new model that i forgoted it's name? please give me some suggestions.
HAHAHA you are right tim! how'd you know i don't like justin bieber?

Answer
Well for $2 million you can get almost any car you want.

There are plenty of other good sports car besides the Bugatti. If I had that kind of money to spend on a supercar, I would probably buy a car thats appealing, a car thats fast and luxiourous.

You should probably choose between:
1. Ferrari F12 Berlinetta( starting at about $316,000)
This car is powered by a 6.3L V12 which produces 730hp making it go from 0-60 in just 3.1 sec and a top speed of 211mph.

2.Koenigsegg Agera R ($1.7 million)
It has a 5.0 V8 which produces 1115hp and goes fro 0-60 in 2.9 sec. It has a top speed of 245mph.

3. Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster $1,85 million
One of the most exotic cars out there. It can go from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

4.Aston Martin One-77 $1.85 million ( I'm not sure if they are still available brand new)
beauty and power in One,
limited to 77 units. With 750 hp, it is able to travel
from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaching a
maximum speed of 220 mph.

Conclusion

I would pick The Agera R$ its so fast and has a lot of specs.
Standard features include: dual airbags, a detachable and storable hardtop with glass roof, power windows, adaptive rear wing, adjustable pedals and steering column, Agera stitching, adjustable seats in rake and length, carbon ceramic brakes with Sport ABS, hydraulic lifting system, power steering, power brakes, extra four-point seatbelts for track use, Satellite- navigation, Intelligent LifePo4 battery, MP3 player,
USB connection, climate control, digital warning
and info system, G sensor, alarm, tire monitoring
system, silver key, leather carpets, roof storage bag and a car cover.

Options include: fitted luggage, special leather
and colors, fully visible carbon fiber body panels, Inconel exhaust, front winglets, rear-view camera, heated seats, a ski box for the roof and a
winter wheel package.

So overall the Agera R would be a good option

I hope this helps

Buying a classic muscle car?

farfar8806

I want to buy an old muscle car, like a mustang or a camaro, but i dont know wut to look for. Are they supposed to be cheap? If i buy one, am i going to have to keep getting it fixed since its pretty old? Any info would be great!

Answer
Depends on the condition of the car, I bought a 74 El Camino for $850, and then 10 days later had to drop another $1000 for an entire new brake system because the guy lied. Then a new battery and a new alternator. I need to replace the hood which should cost anywhere from 100-350+. I also have to have it repainted, and some body work, and that is just to start, there's pretty much no interior as is too.

Oh, yeah and I have no radio and get less than 10 MPG.

But I LOVE my car, to me it's a labor of love.

I've seen old mustangs with no tranny or engine and major rust selling for over 2K. Ones that barely run and look like shit for 5k+

So, (depending on your definition of cheap of course) I would say that no, it's not cheap to buy or restore a classic car. Some times (like me) you can luck out and get a really good deal (yes, as hard as it is to believe I got a good deal on my car) but that can take a lot of time and effort.

Female Abdominal Info?

Savannah D

Female: 5'9; 155 pounds.

I'm doing like 100 crunchies a day, 20 sit ups, 20 leg ups, 20 bicycles. how long should it take me to get visible abs? i am chubby in my stomach.

* if you have any advice, rather than the answer to the question... i'd also appreciate it :)

Answer
To really get your abdominals to show, you must diet and include aerobic exercise in your routine. Exercise without maintaining a diet rich in protein to enhance muscle development, is like having a car without an engine; you get absolutely nowhere.

Try balancing your meals 70% protein 30% carbs. Eat your proteins from lean sources (Chicken, fish, boiled eggs, lean beef with all the fat drained off) and beans (lentil, lima, chile or any type of bean) For your carbs stay away from breads and rice. They do provide energy but they are high in calories. Choose leafy vegetables, carrots, raisins, broccoli and fresh fruits.Drink 10 to 20 glasses water per day NO SODA

Make a life style change that includes exercise and six small meals per day.

valet parking at fenway park?

John

Answer
If you pull up and someone offers to "park your car" for you and you get out and hand over the keys, I can guarantee you will never see your car again, except maybe on the 11 o'clock news as having been used in a bank holdup in Rehoboth, so Un-ah or No.

(ford everest) how do i shut the car alarm immediately?

Mac

i lost the original key and the key-less entry remote with it. all i have left is my spare key. if i use the key to unlock a door, the car alarm will go off, right? can i silence the alarm once i get in? how? my father CANNOT know that i lost the original key and the remote, so i need to know a way to use my car without the alarm ringing every time i open the door. or at least SILENCE THE ALARM IMMEDIATELY WHEN I GET IN THE CAR.

thanks so much to people who will honestly help. i can't go to ford and ask for another remote because my dad will know about it, so please don't tell me to do that. thanks

by the way, i don't really know much about cars so please don't be super technical, or maybe please tell me where i have to do what exactly. thanks so much. this means a lot

Answer
Well sorry to break the news to you, but you eventually will have to tell your dad. If its a programed key and the spare that you have is the valet key, it will not start your car, but if you are opening the door with the key its self, your alarm shouldnt be going off. On my old maxima, i just had to insert the key into the dirverside door and that would disable my alarm. Another thing you could do is go to your local lowes, walmart, home depot and have them make you another key, one that will be programmed to your car, but it will cost you at least $50. Hope that helps. You need to fess up to your dad though

Can I take a car seat on united?

jsandrock

Am I able to have my sons car seat put under the plane even though we are not using it for the flight? If so how much does this cost?

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I fly a lot with my three children.

If you check a car seat under the plane as luggage, it will count against your baggage allowance. If you're flying internationally, there is no cost but for domestic, you have to pay;

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,52481,00.html

It's never a good idea to check a car seat in as luggage. You risk the seat being damaged and/or lost. The airlines do NOT take responsiblity for what they consider to be a "delicate" item.

If your son has a seat (not a "lap baby") and if your car seat is FAA certified, than it's your *right* to use the seat on board. Most car seats sold in the U.S. are FAA certified. Here is more information on the FAA site;
http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/

If you haven't purchased a place for your son, still try to use the car seat on board. Ask at check-in if the plane is full and ask nicely if it's possible to "block" the seat next to you so you can use the car seat on board. Some parents book window and aisle seats in the hope that no one takes the middle seat. If so, they simply switch places.

Having the seat on board means you're guarenteed to have it at your destination. It's more of a risk leaving the airport by car without your son's car seat. Car travel is actually more dangerous than flying.

If you are unsuccessful in getting an extra place, the car seat will then be "gate checked" with the strollers and wheelchairs, which is much gentlier, cleaner and more sure than checking the seat in with the regular luggage. It will then be returned to you on the jetway. You may also be able to avoid the baggage charge this way but don't quote me on that! It's worth a try...

Here are United's car seat policies;

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1051,00.html

To get your car seat through the airport, there are all sorts of gizmos sold. Here are some examples;

http://www.gogobabyz.com/products/gogo_kids.html
http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Attach-Rolling-Carry/dp/B000JHN3AS
http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html

I simply strap my child's seat to a small metal luggage cart and secure it with an extra bungee cord. Much cheaper than the gizmos, can be used again for other bags and works great!

About 8 years ago, I wrote an article on the subject of flying with children for a local newsletter. On the web, all the information I found was written by people who had never worked directly for the airlines (and seen those accident videos which convinced me to use the seat for my own kids). I wanted to promote the use of car seats on aircraft for both safety and comfort. I have more tips so feel free to visit;
http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com

It's also featured on this month's Expat Women site;
http://www.expatwomen.com/mothers/flying_with_children.php

Good luck getting your car seat on board and have a good flight!

Car seats....?

KitKat4106

can anyone tell me when i can put my son in a froward facing car seat?

Answer
It depends on how big your child is and can depend on the state you live in.

Find out about car seat laws in your state. I am placing a link in this post that will answer your question.

http://www.inventiveparent.com/state-laws.htm

This sight stated the following about turning the car seat to face forward...
The most common questions we receive at Inventive Parent are, 1) When can my babyâs rear-facing car seat face forward? and 2) Does my child need to be in a car seat?
The answer to the second question is probably Yes. The NHTSA now recommends that children stay in appropriate car seats through 8 years, 80 pounds, or up to 4'9". Many states have amended their laws to follow these guidelines. More on this in an upcoming newsletter.
Today we will focus on babies in rear-facing car seats.
Do you feel strange about putting your baby in the back seat? It is so far away! And in a rear-facing seat? Seems rather like a punishment for both of you. He canât see where heâs going. You canât see him. You fear heâll be bored, might even get car sick. And how can you comfort him when he cries? What can you do when the sun sneaks around the shades on your carâs windows?
Everyone says this is the way to do it, but you are looking forward to the day you can turn that seat around!
(I can remember driving during the day with my rear-view mirror adjusted for headlights because that way I could see my sonâs face while I was watching the road. But he was older then, a toddler in a forward-facing seat. Soon weâll show you how you can see your babyâs full face even when sheâs rear-facing!)
Babies do not watch the scenery because their young eyes can not yet focus on the distance, the gradations of color, or the movement. Think of the mobile you placed over your babyâs crib: strong contrasts, simple patterns, large objects that move slowly. It was designed for your baby. Trees flying by at 65 miles per hour outside a car window are nothing but a blur. Donât worry: your baby will not miss the scenery.

I hope this helps and also going to that sight will show you what the laws are pertaining to car seats as your child grows.

My car isn't starting up correctly... hesistates when I crank it.?

Kyle H

I recently had a new drive belt put in my 2001 toyota celica. A few days later my car didn't start in the morning. It doesn't seem to be the battery as when I just have the battery on it's fine. But when I go to crank it it hesitates or kind of coughs and then finally the engine turns. Could it be my starter or what? I've had so much money dumped into this car, way more than it's worth and it's just one problem right after the other.
To answer some questions... the guy called it a drive belt and listed that way on my receipts, I'm not sure which belt it is but he said if it snaps then my car will stop and I'll have to get it towed so it's very imporant, I'm thinking the serpentine. I've had a check engine light on forever that they supposedly fixed but 4 days later it came back on and it still hasn't been fixed b/c of 2 shops and a dealership and tons of money laer the damn light still pops on. Occassionally I smell a slight smell of gas when i get out of my car esp. when I have to drive on the freeway. My batter is about 2 years old. THey also suggested before along with the drive belt to get the timing tensioner chain fixed. The lights get a little dimmer when the car is cranking then go back to normal afer it cranks. When I rev it the headlights stay the same brightness. It seems though that day by day it starts to crank a lot easier.

Answer
You need to supply more accurate info. Your "kind of coughs" throws everyone into a "fuel, compression, backfire, spark timing, spark leak, valve timing" mode that just confuses the issue.

If you mean a '(valve) timing belt' when you said 'drive belt' those are kind of hard to screw up, but it's possible on some cars (adjust ignition timing when finished - some cars have automatic timing features). If it's installed wrong, it usually won't start at all. If it's worn out, cranking will be erratic. No crank, slow crank, fast crank, slow again, starts by running rough, then runs fine -- or not. Your problem may be that you have a worn timing belt, and it just happened to act up just after you had some work done (if you didn't get a new timing belt). Timing belts are not an easy fix, figure a few hundred dollars, especially on your sporty car.

When you say, "I just have the battery on" I think you mean "when I just have the radio on without the engine running." Do the horn and radio die and headlights go out or very dim when you crank the engine, or it cranks slower with the headlights on (or run a power roof)? That's caused by a low battery, old battery, or corroded terminals. Not enough current (amps) available.

If it has the original battery, it's too old. You should get a new battery, even if you just temporarily swap one from another car to test. If it's a replacement battery, did you ever run it down (leave the lights on)? Again, swap to test. Be careful, take your time, have good lighting, don't smoke (seriously - batteries can give off explosive gas; exploding a sulfuric acid-filled battery can really ruin your day) and check polarity at every step. You can cause a <lot> of damage to your car - and injury to people - by mishandling a car battery or its polarity. See link below for instructions.

If you start the car, but cannot disconnect the battery connection without it stalling immediately, the alternator's not charging, or may only charge at high rpm's. Loose belt is a cheap fix.

If it already has a newer battery . . .

You may have corrosion around the battery terminals. Outside temperature and humidity can affect cranking speed (one hour it's fine, the next, it's completely dead, then later, works fine again). If that's the case, this paragraph may help. Have someone else start the car while you <carefully> wedge a sharp edge of metal (short flathead screwdriver, fingernail file, etc.) between the battery post and its clamp (then try the other post/clamp) to create a good temporary connection. If it cranks normally now, each post and clamp must be cleaned. If any of these connections have ever been replaced (new battery clamp, for example) that's always the first place to look. If that didn't help, follow both large battery cables (ignore smaller ones) to the next connections if you can, and see if they look corroded or odd. Ditto for the large cable on the starter motor. The terminals affected are battery positive post and bolt, clamp, cable, other end of cable, clamp, starter terminal, solenoid terminal, solenoid armature (switch part), connection to starter motor brush, carbon brush, starter armature, starter brush, brush connection to ground, ground connection of starter, chassis, clamp and bolt, chassis ground cable, other end of cable, battery clamp, post, ground side of battery. The ignition switch is not part of the high-amperage circuit; your key merely powers the windings on the solenoid, which then does the high-current switching. Any of these can corrode and cause the starter to crank slowly or not at all. Eyeball as many as you can and clean any that look odd or you can reach. Always securely disconnect the ground (minus) terminal at the battery FIRST before doing any electrical work. You'll have to reset the clock and radio stations when you're all done. Clean with a wire brush or toothbrush, baking soda in water, wear goggles or glasses and old clothes. Corrosion flicking off the brush in your eye will send you to a doctor. On your clothes; well, that's not too pretty, either.

If the engine cranks slowly, but then fires and runs normally, your new belt may be the one that turns the alternator to charge the battery. It's a good sign if it looks 'flat' while the engine is running. If it looks 'blurry' it's loose or stretched from being used (that's what new belts do shortly after being installed - don't get new belts just before that cross-country trip) and the battery isn't being charged properly because the alternator belt is slipping. Go back to the same place and have it adjusted (it'd better be free). If the belt is a 'serpentine' belt, it may be self-adjusting, but ask the mechanic.

The alternator is a round box, flat on the front and back sides, around 6" round and 6" deep, usually grey, may have little fan blades right behind the pulley. It may be easy or difficult to spot, but it's always turned by a belt, and those are always on the 'front' of the engine (which may be on the side of the engine compartment).

If that's not it, and you have over 100,000 miles on it, (actually related to how many times you've started the engine than actual miles on the vehicle) you may need new carbon brushes for the starter motor. This failure will be easy to spot because it's predictable -- one minute the engine cranks fine, then later, won't crank at all. Waiting 1/2 hour or tapping on the starter motor (or heating it in the winter with a light bulb) will cause it to work fine again (I've owned two cars that had this problem). Brushes are designed to wear out, but may (or may not) be easy to replace, depending on the car (working on your sporty Celica might be ugly, but it is a Toyota . . . ). If you're handy with tools, you may be able to find starter motor brushes for $10 at an auto electric shop and do the work yourself. Take photos and notes as you disassemble pieces if you're squeamish. Disconnect the ground (-) terminal on the battery before doing this work. The alternative is to replace the starter motor - figure $125 if you do it, twice that if you have someone else do it. Get a Haynes manual for your model and save a lot of $$$.

Starters have a starter solenoid (I don't believe your car has a starter relay -- those are found on larger US cars). If the solenoid gets flaky, you'll only hear a 'click' when you twist the key. Holding the key will just burn out the solenoid windings. 'Clicking' it over and over again may finally get it to crank and start normally. It will get worse and soon fail. If so, solenoids are not expensive. Getting to it (that big blob sticking out of the side of the starter motor) may or may not be easy, depending on the car.

If you're going to work on your car, get a Haynes manual. The rest are either far too expensive or won't be much help for anything more complicated than changing lamps.

Who will be sponsoring the #8 car for the '09 season?

Q.

Answer
Rumors are that the #8 car could be parked and Almirola may be without a ride most of the season.
http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/Aric_Almirola_admits_some_concern_for_2009_plans_full_Cup_season.html
------------
Let me add one thing. DEI tends to tell people things that are not true. They may say they have a sponsor ready to be announced but that doesn't necessarily mean that is the truth. Of course it's not called DEI now but then again Teresa is still part owner of the business formed by the DEI & Ganassi merger. She already had a contract with Martin Truex and supposedly there was a clause that stated Bass Pros would require that Martin Truex have two full-time teammates for the deal to stand. Currently, in addition to Truexâs fully sponsored team, the #41 car has a full Target sponsorship and the #42 has a partial sponsorship from Juicy Fruit. The #8 DEI car currently has no sponsor for 2009.

So the problem comes in that if they announce they don't have another full-time sponsor then Bass Pros can leave and take Truex and the sponsorship to another team and organization (which Ganassi and DEI doesn't need to happen). So they are not going to say "Hey ... We haven't found a sponsor yet" and take a chance on loosing another sponsor based on a technicality.. They will just say "We have one lined up" when in all likeliness they don't.

Could you please provide me some information about leasing a car like
what is the pros and the cons
Why i should lease than buy a car
If i,m leasing a car i still need to shop around to find a good deal of the price of the car or becouse it is leasing it does not matter
Can i lease a car for only one year
Can i lease a car with OK not very good credit score
Thanks in advance

Answer
Leasing has become more difficult nowdays but you can still find good deals, for example at VW, Mazda, Ford, and Honda dealerships. Lease generally is between 2 to 3 years. One year leases may be possible but they will be much more expensive. I personally do not like leases since I don't like to change cars every 2 to 3 years. Leasing restricts you to 10 to 12K miles per year and you may also end up paying for too much wear and tear. A lot of times dealers will offer $200 a month lease with $2000 to $3000 downpayment up front. Add up all you payments plus up front cost to find out exactly how much you will pay for the car in 2 or 3 years. You'll find that after 2 years and about $10,000 you will no longer have a car. Lease works great if you like to change cars every couple of years, drive less than allowed mileage, and don't mind looking for another car at the end of the lease.

Does anyone have any info on what happens when you need to get out of a car lease early?

I have an 02 4 Runner I am paying way to much for in a lease. My payout if I buy it now is 17,000...but I cant even afford that. I dont know what happens if I terminate my lease early, or if I voluntarily reposess it. (give it back) but my credit is shot anyway. Any advice?

Answer
A lease is a finance contract with a balloon payment at the end. You do not say if it is a two or four wheel drive vehicle, nor do you list the trim level, but it is possible that you may be able to sell the car for the buyout figure, or a little less.

Check with a place like Carmax, or an independent used car dealer, to see what you car would be worth. If the figure is close, you can pay the difference, buyout the lease and sell the car. You will not hurt your credit that way, and you may actually end up with a few dollars in your pocket!

If you give them the car back, they will sell the car at auction. They will take the amount that they get for the vehicle, deduct any and all fees, repairs, transportation, reconditioning, and any other costs they can think of, and apply the remaining amount to the balance you owe. They will then sue you for the difference, and attach your wages if you do not pay!

Texas Car Used Law-Mechanic Trouble?

Lyn Arring

I bought a used car from a dealership two months ago, I've made my payments on time and have insurance on it. One day on the way to work the car broke down, and it was towed to the dealership, which they then towed it a couple towns over to a mechanics, a larger dealership. For the first three days of communication the mechanics at this dealership "lost" my car and couldn't find it, didn't even know it was there, then when they finally found it they didn't know it was mine or what it was in there for. I told them what happened and called the next day. They said they have no idea what's wrong with it and they'd call me back. ( They never return any of my calls) I call next week and the receptionist said the mechanic working on my car was "away from his desk" I left my name and number, and once again no call back for the next two days. In less than two weeks I have to make another payment. I'm not entirely sure what my rights are or if they can keep my car for a month while I pay another payment and they keep saying "I don't know what's wrong with it" .

Answer
I assume dealership means brand name dealer like Chevy, Ford, etc, and not an independent dealer like, say, American Used Cars, LLC, which may not be as responsible as the namebrand dealers.

I also assume you'r keeping detailed records of who said what when, and who failed to [unreturned calls, etc] job titles, etc.

Post what your warranty is. A lot revolves around that.

You put "lost" in quotes; If someone actually said that, that'l be good for you if you have to goto court; record their name & job title.

As for them "not knowing what's wrong w/it"...it's their professional duty to know...failing in that duty is Negligence, good leverage for you.

Meet w/ the general manager of the first dealership and ask him if he's aware of the situation. If it's a brand-name dealer, ask him for the names, exact job titles, phones and paper mail addresses of the regional and zone managers & CEO @ headquarters.

When the local dealers have such a lapse in professionalism, they often want to hide it from their superiors, so he should get the message and get this fixed yesterday. If it's not to your satisfaction, write to the above managers about the situation & include some of the quotations you listed in you question. Mail the letters Certified, Return Receipt.

It it's not a brandname dealer, and you cant get a firm committment from the general manager, or they deny warranty coverage, call about 10 lawyers in your area and state that practice consumer law and ask for advice on the phone. Have all you documentation handy.

You might want to search your VIN, Vehicle ID Number, very thoroughly online. It's on your registration and several locations on your car. Sometimes crooked dealers put an bad engine w/ its own VIN in a car whose other VINs are good; that's Fraud. But you can't check those VIN locations on your car till you get it back. But see what you can find online, maybe they laundered the title from, say, Salvage to clean...more Fraud.

I've won some small claims cases and collected all my judgements, and as part of my preparation, I call the lawyers...most are very helpful.

ZigZag

I am trying to plan my future. I love cars and would love to work on them as a living.I don't know is i should choose this career. I have no clue how much money mechanics make. I want to make a good living to be completely happy. Can you help me out?

Answer
According to the 2012-2013 Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), in 2010 the median salary for automotive service technicians and mechanics was $35,790 per year / $17.21 per hour.

The Handbook profile cited below also has sections on what they do, work environment, how to become one, pay, job outlook, similar occupations and contacts for more info.

Finally, pay for automotive service technicians and mechanics may vary considerably by state. In Alabama, the mean wage is $11.23/hr and in Alaska, the mean wage is 25.04/hr.

You can find mean (average) wages for mechanics and other occupations in your state by visiting the US Dept of Labor Sources of Career Information cited below.

is the car diagnostic gun and the OBD 2 cable do the same thing or is one better than the other?

LordCyrax

do cars time to time am no expert but wondering if its worth spending more on the diagnostic gun or if having a android app with the obd 2 plug will give me the same results as the gun

Answer
i'm not sure what you mean by gun..

OB2 cable is very useful to read car's ECU and engine light codes..
They come in USB for PC, WiFi dongles, Bluetooth and more
the WiFi and Bluetooth OBD2 dongles will work with Android, look for app called "Torque Pro", it works great and shows real time info, reset and clear codes.

Answer
In the Mini...
the original BBC News theme tune (I think),
then The Archers theme tune - again from the BBC.

I'm not sure what the tune is when the family are walking from the car to the house

In the house...
Push The Button by the Sugababes
Enola Gay by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

7/12/12 the blaze: General Motors announced this month its auto sales increased by 16 percent in June, its best monthly sales gain since 2008. Considering all the company has been through, and the fact that it still owes taxpayers approximately $25 billion in TARP repayments, a 16 percent boost in sales sounds like good news, right?

7/5/12 http://nlpc.org/stories/2012/07/05/gm%E2%80%99s-government-sales-and-truck-inventory-rise:
âWe now learn that government purchases of GM vehicles rose a whopping 79% in June.â

So, who's lying?

Be a Christian and believe in your faith, not in what DZRH says. Philippine media, particularly radio and even news TV, thrives on sensationalism -- e.g. showing in camera the bloody body of a person hit by a car or stabbed to death (images you'll never see in US television especially early evening or morning news)

how fast do you go when traveling in the car?

so the eid is coming and everybody is going to his home town ,how fast do you/your husband go in the highway?
Stay safe everyone :)
for me more then 160-170 km/h is crazy

Answer
Well, I am not surprised. There is a reason why SA has the highest rate of death by car accident. Shame on all of you who think it is alright to go above the speed limit. You must not of lost somebody in a car accident before, and not really gave a damn about your neighbor who did. Nor give a damn about how your family would feel one day to get the news, that your body is strewn over the freeway, legs here and there, decapitated, along with your beautiful , good, wife, and your first born son, and your daughter is in the hospital fighting for her life, Inshalla she will make it through, but sadly, her life will be full of sadness at having to live without her parents and the baby brother, that all had prayed to Allah for. OMG, these things happen to others for a reason my friends. Do not fail the test. I am one who learns from others mistakes. I myself have known first hand, have known others, who have suffered unimaginable pain and suffering due to such CARE- LESS-NESS! I had the "sense" to teach my sons early on about these dangers. Where is your sense. I always tell my son's, EVERYTIME, they leave the house," I love you, take care, be defensive uh" and as the door closes I say duaa, with eyes closed and hands to my heart. Ahdan just saved me from the pain in writing this, Allah Akbar. I'm out.

Dick's Sporting Goods Quest Kayak?

ranran4

I got a used @10 ft. kayak that is from Dick's Sporting Goods. The boat is red, and the name across the back of it says "Quest" which is the only marking on it.

I called the company and they were gracious enough to give me an owner's manual, and a new foot peg, both for free. Unfortunately, the manual did not give me the weight limit for the boat, which is important; since I am right at the weight limit for some of the similarly styled boats that do list their specs.

Anybody know the specs for this boat, and who in the world made it? Obviously Dick's didn't. What are your impressions; if you own this boat as well? I have searched the web for this information, to no avail at this point.

Answer
The KL Industries Quest is basically junk -- a cheaply molded (likely in China) plastic bathtub with few performance characteristics. If it was a car, it would be a Yugo (you're probably too young to remember those). It may float, but it won't track or handle well. The manufacturer doesn't publish a load rating (no doubt because their low quality control probably results in a wide variation in the integrity of the boats) but I'd guess it is probably around the range of similar 9 to 10 foot "rec" boats -- 225 lbs. maximum. Bear in mind this includes you, your gear, your paddle, your water bottles, etc. So if you are over 200 lbs you are really pushing it -- and any time you exceed 80% of a boat's capacity you will affect it's performance -- it will ride lower and be slower. As the previous person recommended, you should get flotation bags for it to fill up the stern and bow -- otherwise if you swamp it the boat will sink.

As an "entry level" kayak (frankly, a term I dislike) it will get you out on a pond or shallow creek for dabbling around or light fishing in warm weather, but I would not use it in a large, high-flow river, shipping lanes or anywhere there is wind, waves or surf. I would also not take it farther from shore than you are willing and able to swim.

That said, you can't lose if you bought it for a good price. Maybe it will work fine for you (tip, get a good paddle with a fiberglass shaft, not aluminum, and you will enjoy paddling it MUCh more.) But if you find you love kayaking you are likely to find it frustratingly slow and hard to control as your skills improve and will probably want to upgrade soon. The good news is you will probably be able to sell it for close to what you paid for it when you trade up.

Name things that make you happy (in a list)?
