Ford avoided bankruptcy but at who's expense?

Agent Oran

The unemployment rate in the United States reached a 26-year high of 9.7 percent in August 2009, and many economists expect it will continue to rise until it peaks above 10 percent in the first half of next year, Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, positive hiring news came last week from General Motors Co., which announced on Tuesday that it plans to recall 2,400 factory workers to plants in Michigan, Indiana and Kansas, adding additional shifts to the facilities to keep them operating around the clock to meet increased demand for certain vehicles, the New York Times reports. About a month ago, GM said it would rehire 1,350 laid-off factory workers in Ohio and Ontario as it began to increase production after a year of drastic cuts; those workers are scheduled to report in October.

Ford Forecasts 2011 Profitability
In a press conference in New Delhi, India, last week, Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally said he expected his company to return to profitability in 2011, predicting U.S. sales will reach 10.5 to 11 million units in 2009, 12.5 million in 2010 and 14.5 million in 2011, Agence France-Presse reports.

According to Mulally, the outcome of this rate of sales coupled with "[t]he guidance we have given overall â because we continue to invest in new products â is that we will be profitable in 2011."

Ford, the only major U.S. automaker to have avoided bankruptcy, has gone through three consecutive years of annual losses totaling $30 billion, with a $1.4 billion decline in the first quarter of 2009 alone, AFP reports.

Much of the company's planned turnaround depends on expanding its presence in Asian markets. According to CNN Money, Ford is investing $500 million in its Indian manufacturing plant to expand production to 200,000 units per year, with a special focus on the new Figo model designed for the Asian small-car market. Ford has similar plans for expansion in China, preparing to construct a new factory in southern China for the production of high-end sedans and sport-utility vehicles at a volume of 300,000 units annually, Bloomberg News reports.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know GM has foreign plants, in fact they are closing the Lorain, Ohio plant and moving it to Mexico to build a new motor.

What are these companies doing to help the American worker?
Would you consider them to be un-patriotic?

It seems to me that to keep them here we would have to work for peanuts. Isn't there a better way?
T. Rex, "to keep them here".
I know pays cuts are necessary but it seems that manufacturing jobs are going to people who make that in a day, if they're lucky.

Obviously no one has a better answer, you just want to make Dems look stupid.

I'm not worried about that, you've cornered the market.

The manufacturing overseas is profitable until the workers there start demanding an increase in pay.
Just like Japan.

It 'seems to me (again) that these corporations will continue to seek out the most destitute in order to preserve profits. Where does that leaves us?
I'm thinking socialism.
The last GM I bought the motor cracked at about 15,000 miles.
I had an extended warranty so they fixed it.
It happened again within three months, they didn't want to pay for it until I threatened to take them to court.
Great customer service.
Glad your Ford isn't a lemon, yet.

Just looking for reasonable ideas, not a conversation with a table.

Answer
Ford is paying attentio to where people are buying cars. Dosen't it make sense to start developing their presence in India and China - which are likely to turn into larger car markets than the US?

BTW - do you really think that we have seen the last of the GM bailouts?

Which is higher - # of gun deaths in the US last year, or people killed in auto accidents over the last year?

Q. Hint - it's not even close. By that account should we not get rid of evil cars? Would be great for saving the earth too. Two can play this game

Answer
Save your breath trying to reason with democrats. Common sense tells everyone but liberals and democrats that ALL human predators dearly hope their targets are unarmed, whether the predator is a home invader, Stalin or Hitler:
-Thomas Jefferson, "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776: ââLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Even pacifists like Mahatma Gandhi "got it," saying: "Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." An Autobiography, pg 446.

But liberals and democrats always religiously cling to their dogmatic faith that âmore guns leads to more crimeâ no matter how much evidence you shove in their face, including:

-9/27/01 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/156671⦠are deeply rooted within Swiss culture but the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept"; âIn addition to the government-provided arms, there are few restrictions on buying weapons.â

-1/15/03 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/26568⦠BBC: "âIf guns are outlawed only outlaws will have gunsâ" may prove prophetic. Gun crime in the UK is soaring even though it has the strictest gun control laws of any democracy.â
Nine years later: 12/17/12 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-⦠UKâs violent crime rate per 100,000 people is 2,034; USâs is 466.

-2/2/11 Daily Telegraph, about piracy: âThe safest ships of all [sailing in the Gulf of Aden] are flying the Russian flag: armed guards aboard them simply blow pirate boats out of the water and leave any survivors to drown. Attacks on Russian vessels have abruptly ceased.â

-7/25/12 http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-07-⦠1950 all but one mass-murders in the U. S. where more than three people died were committed in gun-free zones. The Gun-Free Schools Zone Act was passed in 1990.

-9/25/12 http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/5c1b6a72-c5eb-â¦
âBut almost 30 years after the law [which mandates that all households own at least one firearm for self-protection] was passed, it is still in place and still popular, not least because Kennesawâs crime rate has remained disproportionately low, even as the townâs population swelled from 5,000 in 1982 to almost 35,000 now. According to the latest FBI statistics, Kennesaw recorded 31 violent crimes â mainly robberies and aggravated assaults â during 2008. In other similar-sized local towns the figures were much higher â 127 in Dalton and 188 in Hinesville. For property crimes â largely burglaries and thefts â Kennesaw recorded 555 while Dalton had 1,124 and Hinesville 1,802.â

-11/23/12 http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/local/⦠2006-2011 gun purchases in Virginia increased 73%. During the same period gun-related crimes fell 24%.

-1/6/13 http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/20â¦According to Bureau of Justice Statistics, the firearm crime rate dropped from 6 victims per 1,000 residents in 1994 to 1.4 victims per 1,000 residents in 2009. This has occurred as more and more citizens have armed themselves under right-to-carry State laws. While major crimes show continuing decline in those States, this phenomenon parallels a major crime rise in heavily gun-controlled cities.

-U. S. Department of Justice http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/vdhb.pdf: 3.7 million household burglaries occurred each year on average from 2003 to 2007; a household member was present in roughly 1 million burglaries and became victims of violent crimes in 266,560 burglaries. [meaning the police didnât show up in time]
-----
As to the democrat mantra, âCall 911â:

-In Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled, âpolice personnel and the government employing them are not generally liable to victims of criminal acts for failure to provide adequate police protection . . . . [A] government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular citizen.â In Bowers v. DeVito (1982), the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled âTHERE IS NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BE PROTECTED BY THE STATE AGAINST BEING MURDERED BY A CRIMINALS OR MADMEN.â

-âWhen seconds count, the police are only minutes awayâ

what do the buttons on my car consel mean?

Q. i am looking for a website that has pictures of all the different car buttons and icons. everything from the stereo to what pulls the convertible top down, to what heats the seats. other than an owners manual is there anywhere else i can find this information?

Answer
I dont own a shop, but this information can be found many places online. Most likely youre going to find the information in your cars forum. Search google for 'bmw forums' 'dodge forums' etc. Then youre going to have to search through the site to get the info, but its more then likely going to be there. occasionally ive picked up dash pictures on google image search. i know for a fact that the 80s porsche 924, 928, and 911 are on there. its a picture of the dash with what the buttons do.
many of the cars forums also have downloadable owners, or even shop manuals. http://www.hondahookup.com has nearly every shop manual from 1980s honda civics to 2007 s2000s. its a great site if you want to learn more about honda/acuras.

I want an older BMW or Benz. The Benz has to be 1980s or W140. Realistically, these models below are in my budget. Please don't give me a hard time about expensive maintenance. I'll be doing my own maintenance because I love to work on cars, and I'll get experience by fixing stuff. I don't need info on these individual cars, but I'm wondering about the models.

Benz:
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1961046177.html

Or a BMW:
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ctd/1971608427.html
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1960109645.html
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1959665283.html

I know what to expect from the Benz and have done a ton of research on it. What about the BMWs? Is the E32 (7) a better choice than E34 (5)? Which models within those ranges do you recommend?

Answer
That Benz looks awesome and probably has a lot of good life left. It is hard to argue with that so jump on it. Shopping for cars is all about not buying the first one that you see. Look around, ignore lots of what you see, but when you do see the one that sets itself apart, BUY IT. It's an 83 yet it looks great. Why? Because it has been taken care of. It's being sold because they are moving. What it all adds up to is these are the classic signs that it is a good deal. Still, an 83 is over 25 years old and you should expect lots of things to break down on it if you drive it a lot. All the hoses are going to get old and burst. The owner though was probably a rich dude and took it to the shop whenever he had the slightest problem so the car has probably had a ton of stuff replaced on it. Lots of people sell their cars because there is a problem with them, and you get stuck with it. This though seems like a sweet deal. Good luck.

PS> If it was me, I would add Z-Max to the oil at every oil change. It helps keep the inside of a motor clean. It removes carbon deposit buildup. I have used it with good results. I used the gas additive though and got a ton of sludge in my gas tank so I am not sure it is such a good idea to add that to the gas tank. When I buy Z-Max, I find it online somewhere and buy just the oil additive instead of the whole kit. I buy like 3 or 4 so I have it around the house and don't have to pay shipping on the order.

Poll & Survey: What do you think?

Q. about this?
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/die-crash-amish-buggy-article-1.1533725
Two Amish people were killed in a buggy accident. A car hit them. Do you think the law
should make them give up their buggies? Should they have to build stronger ones? Those
are very frail. What is your thoughts?

Answer
My thought is the driver of the car needs to be charged with vehicular man slaughter. I lived in Kent Ohio and there are Amish near there, the buggies have huge orange/yellow reflective triangles on the rear of them and I mean it's a buggy with horses for God's sake, how can you not see them and hit one of those?

I read that Volvo was designed a car for women.?

Anna v

Anybody hear about this?

Answer
it's a concept car. called YCC

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2005/09/02/141942.1-lg.jpg

Volvo has no plans to put the YCC into production, but the company says many of its features will find their way into future cars

Volvo surveys show that women want a car that:

* has plenty of storage
* is easy to park
* has good visibility
* is easy to get in and out of
* can be personalized
* requires minimal maintenance

In 2002, Hans-Olov Olsson, president and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation, green-lighted the YCC project, and the team set out to create a car with all of the above attributes. More than 120 Volvo employees participated in the design, development and production of YCC, but all final decisions were made by nine women project leaders â two project managers, four designers, two technical project managers, and a communications manager â all employees of Volvo Car Corp. in Sweden.

The YCC made its world debut at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. It features auto-opening gullwing doors (for easy ingress/egress), easy-clean paint, run-flat tires, an exterior washer-fluid filling point, interchangeable and washable seat covers, computerized parking assistance, automatic diagnostics and notification of needed service, a deep storage well between the front seats, a built-in wastebasket, and a customized seating position to give the driver excellent outward visibility.

Answer
Do you mean the 207 Station wagon SW? It is a "concept car to be shown in GENEVA this year.
I think it will sell to young families with two children. A good vacation car. You can see a photo here and read a little about it.:::

http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshows/12592/peugeot-207-sw-outdoor-concept.html

the 207 SW Outdoor has a panoramic full-length glass roof, perfect for tracking your base-jumping buddies, and a rugged plastic rim around the base of the vehicle to protect you from all the cacti youâll be running over as you chase them down. A 107-hp, 1.6-liter diesel four-cylinder ensures that the SW Outdoor does its part to preserve the environment the driver so enjoys.

Will china continue to claim japan's senkaku islands while cancer victims in china are increasing?

Sense

My heart goes out to the cancer victims and their families.

http://rt.com/news/china-water-pollution-cancer-346/

the number of cancer victims continues to rise in china after years of pollution china factories, cars and lax cost cutting environmental regulations are making the country plagued with pollution, from soils, water, moving air, rain to snow. Fruits are found deformed because of the pollution damage to the DNA.

will china stop claiming japan's senkaku Islands in order to make this long lasting pollution plague stop damaging the health of chinese people and the food products and water ?

kind regards for your answers.

Answer
Interesting that you should ask.

China has been a perpetual land grabber since time immemorial.

Historically China has sought to grab territories on its western and northern borders. Theft of lands of Mongolia, East Turkestan and Tibet are glaring examples.

China cannot steal any more land on its northern and western borders. They cannot afford to bully the Russians in ceding any land on the northern border and wants no more of "Stan" countries' land for the fear of rubbing the Moosleems wrong way and inviting terror attacks from al Qaeda et al.

The only other opportunity for land grabbing lies in the east and hence China is bullying its small neighbors.

The rise of cancer villages in China is the result of the sins on account of land grabbing and thievery that China keeps committing.

Thor is the benevolent God and his hammer strikes those who bully their neighbors, steal their land and keep picking fight.

Thor sent me this message - I will raise my hammer and come to the aid of everyone being oppressed by the Chinese bullies.

Save your breath trying to reason with democrats. Common sense tells everyone but liberals and democrats that ALL human predators dearly hope their targets are unarmed, whether the predator is a home invader, Stalin or Hitler:

does a tsunami retreat back into the ocean?

Every Whit

how do people in tsunamis get "swept out to sea"?
does the tsunami just flood the land, and push all the debris inland?

or does it reach a certain point and then start retreating back the ocean?
if thats the case, is the current stronger going one way or the other?

if you found yourself in a tsunami, what would be your best ways to survive, and what would be the worse mistakes to make?

on videos on youtube, why does the 2011 Japan Tsunami look so much more destructive than the Dec 26 2004 Tsunamis in Indonesia? didn't like 10 times as many people die from the 2004 tsunami.?..the japan footage looks so much more large scale in camparison, with entire urbanized cities being engulfed and submerged in minutes

Answer
OK I will answer your questions respectively.

People in tsunamis get swept out to sea just like any regular wave that comes, and sweep your belongings on the beach into the sea. The water comes onto the land and push all the debris inland, but then things must go back to order. All that water inland cannot just stay there. The water retreat because the ocean is at the lowest point of the land. Many people get caught in that current of the water retreating, especially so because many are caught in the debris (wood, metal, cars) that are also being pulled back into sea.

I cannot tell you which current is stronger, going inland or outland, but they are both of massive force if they can sweep buildings and cars. Many of the dead are also usually children and the elderly. Some who survive cling on trees or roofs.

The best way is not to be one at all. Once there is an earthquake, I would go as far inland as I could and get to higher ground. Some people go into stronger buildings, stay higher, and never be caught inside your car. The wave will sweep your car and you will be trapped.

Finally on the videos, I do not have statistics on which Tsunami is more powerful, but there are also videos that show the 2004 tsunami is as powerful as the Japan tsunami. You may not have as many videos, because the 2004 Tsunami happened in a third-world region, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India. The 2011 Tsunami happened in a first-world country, where every person carries a smart phone that has a camera, and Japan is highly technological country, you are bound to have every building equipped with security cameras that can capture the tsunami.

You don't see the tsunami in Aceh , Indonesia, because there are very few footage, many people are still in villages. These villages are entirely engulfed and also submerged, but you don't have pictures nor as many videos. The ones out in youtube are scarce, and are mainly from Thailand (due to foreign tourists having videocameras) and may not show the entire story. You won't see footage from a helicopter like the one in Japan. Japan is a major financial center, and Tokyo is home to media headquarters of CNN Tokyo, NBC News, etc. Indonesia is not home to any of these media headquarters.

Finally, many more people die because Indonesia again is a third world country, ill equipped to deal with a disaster, also ill equipped to deal with the aftermath of a disaster. Japan is very well prepared for Earthquake and their emergency response are one of the best, even compared to the US. You may think that Japan was ill equipped to deal with the nuclear plant meltdown, and tsunami, but if you compare the death toll, Japan was barely scratched. Besides the buildings that were swept by tsunami, barely any buildings are damaged by the earthquake itself, due to building codes and standards for earthquake zones, something that has never been enforced in Indonesia.

What is the new value of the car's energy?

Joe Mama

The kinetic energy of a car moving down a road is 1.00 x 10^5 J. The car suddenly doubles the magnitude of it's linear momentum vector without changing it's mass. What is the new value of the car's energy?
A) 9.00 x 10^5 J
B) 4.00 x 10^5 J
C) 6.00 x 10^5 J
D) 9.00 x 10^6 J
E) none of the above!

Answer
The info given indicates that the velocity of the car has been doubled.
The KE of the car would then be increased by V² = 4 times former KE.
ANS = B)

mercury car????

Does anyone know wat is mercury made by or wat does mercury make?

Answer
Mercury is owned by Ford and Lincoln. Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury are all American made cars. Ford is a normal, family or truck company, Merucury makes classier cars, Lincoln makes even classier cars than Mercury. Mercury and Lincoln both coppy cars made by ford and make them more luxurious. Here's some examples:

Tracing a Car by license plate?

Hoeky442

I need to be able to search a license plate number and match it to the car it's attached to.

I was recently involved in a hit and run. A car sideswiped my while driving down the highway (Gardner Expressway in Toronto). I thought I caught the plate, and called the police but they told me to pull over and stop following the person that hit me. It was near midnight and traveling at 100 km/h plus, so I'm worried I may not have got the plate correct. The problem is, if I have even one digit wrong, I know the police will realize the vehicle description and the plate don't match and give up trying - leaving me with my insurance company charging me a large deductible and no coverage for a rental car. Does anyone know how I can trace license plates for free (or very cheap) so I can try a few different possibilities and see if I can get a match for the type of car I saw?

Answer
Nope, don't do it.

There are a few websites that offer such a service, but they're all frauds and none of them are free. The information you're after is only available to the MTO and law enforcement, and even they need to have a valid reason for looking it up. There are no websites or services who give that to the public, only fraud artists who want to get their hands on your credit card number.

Give all the info to the OPP, and they'll do what they can with it. They can't really do much, but they'll run a search and see if it leads anywhere.

Hit & run damage with no injuries isn't a big priority for cops, so don't expect a fast response or a very in-depth investigstion. Same thing with your insurer. Cops and insurance companies deal with dozens of these cases per day, so you may as well claim it as a hit & run under Collision coverage and hope the other guy is caught. If they catch the other guy, you'll get your deductible back. They'll also cover you for a rental but only if you spent money on one, so keep all receipts if you do. But again, that's if they catch the guy.

Sorry, I know that isn't what you wanted to hear. But it's what you need to know.

what?!?! you can Wrap your car with advertisments?!?!?

TheChomp.

So i am kind of interested in wrapping my car with an advertisement. How does this work? I heard you get paid for wrapping it, if so how much?? Please can you give me detail on it as much as you can to help me make my decision?

Answer
What you want to do is do a search on "paid to drive advertising". or paid to wrap your car. A better search would be to add your local area in the search string ie paid to drive advertising in los angeles. There are a ton of companies out there offering info on this. Be careful some of them are just broker sites or sites selling the info on getting paid to drive or paid to get your car wrapped. If they want you to pay something up front then it's a scam. Most major cites and heavily populated areas have paid to drive opportunities. You will most likely not get to choose the sponsor wrap that they will wrap your vehicle with. You will probably not find anyone who will pay you to wrap your car. The deal is the car wrap is free and they will pay you anywhere from around $350-$400 a month to drive their ad around. So this a supplemental income venture not a full-time job. They will want you to travel the most congested routes of couse for more exposure so if your a shortcut or backroad driver then forget the idea. ;) A lot of the companies will actually chose a route for you or pay you on a scale based on the different routes that are available in your area. If you are a road warrior that likes to drive 800 miles or more a month and live in a highly populated area you have a good chance of being selected. There is a waiting list for these opportunities due to the fact that there are more people interested in doing this than there are opportunities available. In some cases they will actually give you the use of a free car if you are in a highly desirable area. So if you live in a major city you have much better odds of getting accepted and of course the wait time to process your paid to drive application will be much less. I unfortunately live in an area that isn't populated enough to have this opportunity. Doesn't hurt to fill out the applications. You never know. Good luck! ;)

Car Trouble (Coolant Leak)?

desertsk8t

I noticed that my car was getting very hot, so i took it to have the coolant flushed and refilled. while refilling, the mechanic said that he noticed a leak in there, but had no idea where it was (unless i pay extra for him to find it). well, i had to work, so i just picked up my car and left. I put some sealing fluid (radiator) in the radiator and left. Tongiht while i was driving my car starting letting out high amounts of steam from the front, and eventually started to rattle whenever id give it gas...as i slowed down, well, it eventually died. A friend looked at it and said the Water Pump had a leak and was spraying coolant everywhere, which got on the belt and loosened it (which hypothetically caused the squeak). we put more coolant and drove to a parking spot squeak free. does this sound like it is the pump? if so, how could i fix it besides going to the shop?
i own a 1996 pontiac firebird

Answer
well sweetie, it would help if you gave some info like type of car, year, engine, ect... but since you didnt i can tell you that many waterpumps have weep holes that will leak water as a way of saving your engine if you over heat or have other problems like its getting old and will be failing soon, so its possible that you have a weep hole thats leaking and yes that would soak your belts and make them slip and squeal. now that hole is small and since the cooling sys is under pressure it can spray water when hot. now heres a quick fix that would make my dad roll over in his grave but you can take a self taping screw that slightly thicker than the hole and wrap some teflon tape around it- white plummbers tape- and then screw it into the hole but be careful not to over tighten because you will strip out the hole- its only aluminum, and that will stop the leak and let you drive trouble free for a while. i did that to the waterpump on a chevy truck of mine and it lasted for yrs that way, but honestly this is a temp fix to get you to your next paycheck so the waterpump can be replaced properly. i hope this helps sweetie, and a mechanic that would charge extra to do a pressure test on the cooling system is a rip-off. go to autozone, use their pressure tester for free and you hook it up in place of the radiator cap and pump it like a bicycle pump and then look for where the water is coming out, sometimes its the pump, other times its an old bypass hose or a heater hose or what have you. but those are my best suggestions and as you can see some girls know about cars, lol.

iPhone 4 in Athens, Greece?

Q. I could be going to Athens, Greece in February and I was curious on if I would get any service in the city.

I have a job that demands people getting a hold of me quite often through my phone. If I can't get AT&T service, how would I be able to get service at the city?

Answer
You can...but there are certain problems with it...Here are a few problems:

No Micro-Sim in Greece
My first initiative was to inquire with all mobile phone providers about a micro-sim; as you know, with the iPhone 4, Apple introduced the Micro-Sim, which in theory contains the same information chip as the standard Sim Card, however the dimensions of the chip itself is reduced to about 15 mm x 12 mm. Itâs the same size as used in the iPad, however the iPad chip does not work due to different content and configuration.
No provider can provide a Micro-Sim in Greece. Consequently I chopped up a regular Sim to stuff it into the Phone ⦠and the experiment failed. 3 Days later I was in possession of an O2 Micro-Sim my friend Zo Nicholas had sent me from the UK and the device could finally be activated.

Roaming Cost in Greece
In spite the new European legislation trimming roaming cost across Europe I could not see any progress. After a few hours of testing features and links I was 20 Pounds down. Whatâs actually killing the interest is international data transfer. The next 20 Pounds held for roughly 24 hours whereas I was careful switching off data roaming after each targeted use.
A better experience resulted of course by using local WiFi and Hot spots.

Roaming Services in Greece
Most of the time I have been using Cosmote or Vodafone as local service providers. How surprised was I that it takes up to 24 hours for a sent email to reach the addressee! I donât actually know if this is inherent to low quality services here in Greece or if there is another cause, fact is, at this level mobile email is useless. Just for the record, I tested the email function in parallel from my desktop where it took just a few seconds to reach destination.

Connectivity â Antenna
While here in Vouliagmeni there is no connection problem as we are well exposed, my experience became a nightmare on Syros Island, the main island of the Cyclades. In the main town the reception was fine while just a few kilometers outside, the iPhone proved to be useless.

Apple discriminates Greece
The known antenna problem with the iPhone 4 triggered Apple to update the software and to launch the Free iPhone 4 Case Program. My experience shows that it is not just a matter of how the phone is held or whether it sticks in a case or not: the Apple iPhone 4 Antenna has an engineering problem and any car constructor would have to recall itâs concerned production.
Second: while the free case program is provided through an App, that Application cannot be accessed through the Greek App Store! May be itâs just because the iPhone 4 is not yet available for sale in Greece? In any case: the iPhone is a device for mobile people and the features allow to communicate from anywhere with anyone: why should apple not change itâs attitude to global and provide the same degree of service to all customers, irrespective where they live?
In the case of the case program itâs just a matter of a link and at least 1 case to be shipped to Greece â I am waiting for it :-).
By the way: I went to Apple support online to draw their attention to the iPhone 4 problems existing in Greece. No reaction so far, which is understandable considering the masses of complaints they get from their main markets.

A Positive Note
The iPhone 4 is a great step ahead in many respects and while not an Apple fan, I must admit: I love this device. It shoots nice clips and pictures, lets you organize your contacts, has a brilliant display screen, allows for multitasking, it can mow your lawn, you water-ski on it or you surf the wave at the beach, it gives you a shave in the morning, it pays your bills at the taverna, it plays a Serenade under the balcony of your sweatheart, it fixes your computer and repairs your car, it can even take you to the Moon and the stars â¦
⦠but itâs useless as a Phone, at least when you are island hopping in Greece.

_Hope this info helps!! =)

Hi Gays and Lesbain friends, dou you know that gay sex is punishable by death...?

Q. In 7 countries, and another 70 it's still illegal and you might go to JAIL? Or be castrated or have to perform community service (thats picking up rubbish to the uneducated)

Answer
Yes,
and in some a women can be put to death if her husband says she had an affair.
Some places they kill women who are victims of rape.
In other lands the family decide who the children will marry, the children have no say in it.
I saw a video of a 6 year old boy who was caught stealing, his arm was held as a car drove over it.
There are also many examples of western people in third world countries trying to ease the suffering, but the local government feeling pressure say these people are spy's so have them killed.

I was mildly amused by a news report where all these Christian missionaries were shot dead.
The driver begged to be spared, he only escaped a bullet to the head because he told them he is a Muslim and then he was able to say several passages from the Koran.
It was this that amused me. If he was a true believer he would not have begged for his life as he would have had no fear of death. What he in fact did by begging and grasping at possible ways to save his life was he prove he is an infidel.

I say. The silly Muslims killed the wrong people. Despite the Christian missionaries not being Muslim, at least they believe in God.

So yes your right. The world is full of nutters.

Are you optimistic about the future? What do you suppose life will be like in the year 2020?

beren andr

Answer
Nope. Not optimistic at all. I'm pretty sure we've screwed the pooch and are done for.

2020? Six years, a month and two weeks, from now, roughly?

--2020 will be the first year on record where it doesn't snow _anywhere_ in the United States or Canada. Both. It won't be the last.

--China and Saudi Arabia will continue to make tons of military noises like they can take us. Like they're going to reposess us. Mainly because our politicians will only become worse and worse, and because the economy is just going to screw us ALL forever. No citizen will have work. A whole generation will come up that has NEVER had a full-time job or a job with meaningful perks. The minimum wage still won't budge--unless states CUT the thing down to prison wages.

--We have TWO ruined cities now in the United States (Detroit and New Orleans). There will be EIGHT in 2020. Fox News will STILL blame us--"Well you could Just Get a Job-Job..."

In other words, we here in the United States will continue to get worse, continue to be screwed out of the whole entire 21st century front to back, because a TINY clique of One Percenters on Wall Street demands the blood of us _peon citizens_ for their blood god.

--Oh, and everything WILL be a Surveillance/Prison State. Count on it. There will be nothing happening on the internet or telephone that the NSA hasn't known about five times over. And they'll be able to _Spot your FACE_ from Low-Earth Orbit too, because millimeter-resolution spy satellites will be a thing. And so will _tons_ of drones and unmanned helicopters. The police won't even show up or drive squad cars anymore--they'll just fly in, shoot everything moving in an entire city block and fly on. Because the NRA wingnuts say so--that's their answer for everything, "Evacuate and nuke from altitude, it's the only way."

I'm serious too--the Supreme Court will back them up on this and insist that this is the "only way order can be preserved" for immigrants and Manchurian overlords. That citizens "have to be" hunted down from the sky and shot, dead, repeatedly, over everything.

TL:DR? The 21st Century was murdered for us--the minute the Patriot Act passed, America DIED. We have no future.

What's it like to make a living in New Zealand?

neckwatch

After visiting the beautiful city of Wellington I was enchanted by how idyllic a city it was. For a while i was toying with the idea of moving down to NZ after experiencing the paradise that is Wellington. But I want to know what the reality of making a living in NZ is really like. Does the government kill you with taxes? Are deductions nonexistent? Is the cost for car insurance pretty high? What is socialized and what isn't?

I know that it's very hard for foreigners to find work in NZ.

What's it like to own a house? What are the financial responsibilities of owning a house like i.e.: property taxes, insurance etc...

Answer
New Zealand is a wonderful place to live. But if you are coming from the Us you will probably find the cost of food and electronics much higher. It was 2 months before I started working over here and the pay is lower than I received in the US. Health insurance is socialized which means you may have to wait a while for an operation if you can wait. You can also get insurance that would speed that process up. Regular doctors visits are 40-80 dollars. Taxes at the highest bracket are 39%, but you are only taxed at the national level. Most people don't file taxes, they are taken from your pay and there isn't deductions for mortgage interest like in the US. The cost of car insurance is relatively less but car registration is more. There is a no fault policy on accidents where the government handles reparations for accident injuries, see ACC for more information. I am married to a kiwi so getting permanent residency was easy but if you have needed skills you can apply as well. Search for immigrate new zealand skilled migrant for more info. We are in the process of buying a house. Interest rates are low here right now but you can only fix your rate for up to 5 years, then you have to negotiate another rate. Property taxes seem to be less at least compared to Maryland and closing costs seem to be covered by the lender. For moving money I used a company call HIFX. For an immigration bank account I used Westpac. I hope this gives you a start to answering your questions.

Uk to Canada or New zealand???

Q. Ok so my parents are certain they want to move out of the UK. They are looking at either Canada or New Zealand but which is best?
We are a family of 4. Mom is a nurse and would therefore be the visa applicant. Dad works in the manufacturing industry. I will finish school before emigrating and would be looking at university, my brother will be starting secondry school. I would like info on the best country for education, lifestyle and a place that is less stressful then England.
Thank you.
Lola xx

Answer
I have lived in Canada first, then the UK, and now live in New Zealand. I suppose something about that order tells you something about Canada already. Canada is very beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I left there out of sheer boredom. The winters in Canada seem permanent. It's like you never get to see anything green or leave the house without major clothing, and if you get in your car and drive (and I have to say, they've got cool cars there if you like big, American ones) to see something different, you end up driving endlessly, and may not see anything different at all, just the same old, huge prairie.

I left the UK because the crime freaked me out, and the cost of living meant I came pretty close to having to live in a cardboard box on the sidewalk. But it certainly was more exciting than Canada, and had more opportunity and character. Sorry, any Canadians - I don't mean to slam your country, it's just that, if you've come from elsewhere, it's really very... serene.

NZ has the density of places to go and feel diversity (I can go skiing or surfing on the same day), and the visuals are mindbogglingly colourful, the light amazing. Flowers and greenery are always up and running, and winter means, even down here where I live (Otago is considered NZ's freezer), that I may have to scrape a bit of frost off my windscreen maybe three times a year before I drive off to work in the morning, but I can have my lunch outside in the sun.

Your mum is a nurse from the UK? She'll be accredited and have a job right away. My wife is a nurse, and they are absolutely gagging for more. UK registration was accepted immediately - in Canada, that may not be so easy.

Schools and universities are of similar quality and cost in both countries.

Car accident -Car is "totaled" by Ins. Co. Now what?

Dave I

We have a heavily damaged 2006 Prius, that is 8 weeks old. We were hit from behind by an Insured motoist and the damages by the adjuster are estimated at $17,500. The word from the body shop is that the car will be "totaled". What are my options to get the replacement value of a NEW Prius, approx $26K, instead of the depreciated value that I'm thinking the Ins. co. will offer me?
Thanks.

Answer
Something is very fishy. A 2005 Prius with 12000 miles on it has a retail book value of $26050. according to Kelly Blue Book.

A 2006 with less than say 2500 miles would be at least that and more.

The $17500 estimate by the adjuster is less than the industry 85% standard for a total. Not knowing the items damaged on your car, I am sure that the adjuster has put a notation on the estimate that there will most likely be additional damage found if repairs are done that will push the repairs over the 85% figure.

Assuming that to be the case, then the very least that the adjuster should be offering you is in the neighborhood of $22800. as a settlement value on the car. Since the 2005 is still valued at $26050 in excellent condtion then a 2 month old 2006 should book at at least the same. Very good arguement to demand full replacement. PERIOD. Contact a good accident attorney (one that is not affraid to go for the jugular) and ask him to write a letter to the company indicating that it is a demand for payment of the full value of the car. Additionally, have him write a letter to the insurance company of the person that hit you. Same type of letter -- demand for immediate replacement.

If your insurance company does not want to cough up the full price let them know that you are very internet savvy and will spread the news that they are a lousy company that do not do right by their insureds. The same goes for the insurance company of the person that hit you.

Then really get serious. Have your attorney set in motion an action against the person that hit you freezing all of his assets.
Real Estate, other autos, any personal property and liquid assets, retirement accounts and bank accounts.

If ANYONE WAS HURT!!! Go for the jugular. DO WAIT FOR THE TWO INSURANCE COMPANIES TO DO A PATTY PATTY BEHIND YOUR BACK.

And turn your attorney loose.

How to maintain a car properly?

Mr.Yoos

My maintainance activity is:
add oil to engine when the level is low.
Check reservoir and radiator if there is a leak. (I only use water for both reservoir and rad)
Check tire pressure every two days
Check brake fluid and power steering fluid (brake fluid gets lower faster than PS)
Clean the body and interior
Clean reachable parts of the engine

and that's pretty much it. Am I doing it right? Is there something wrong with my brake or is it really like that? What are your recommendations?

Btw, I have a 3.1TDi Bighorn 3DR version from '95 (yes turbo)

Answer
With all do respect, here is a list of car care items we would do differently:

#1. Change engine oil and filter as per manufactures suggestion when the mileage is do.

#2. Have an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test which will find any external or internal coolant leaks. Make repairs where necessary. By a $5.00 antifreeze tester at any auto parts store. *If and when the coolant is low, fill with 100% manufacturers (brand of car) antifreeze, till the coolant tests -35 below zero Fahrenheit. Never mix discount store antifreeze with factory suggested chemical type as listed in the specifications pages of your glove compartment manual. When you use water to adjust your freeze point always use distilled water from any grocery store.

#3. The more times you check air pressure the more air you'll loose when the tires are stone cold. If loss of air pressure is a problem, look in your phone book for a private mechanic, new car dealer or tire shop who offers *nitrogen tire filling after they bleed off all the air that is in them now. Ask them to fill the tires the following way: Jot down the maximum tire pressure listed on the tires. Under that pressure list the pressure inside the drivers door. Add the two pressures and divide by two. This is the pressure you want the tires inflated to.

#4.* If you want the entire engine compartment cleaned good as new, take the car to a wand-type car wash. Raise the hood and hot soap spray the entire engine compartment. Rinse when done.

#5. Call the dealer of the car and ask them the mileage at which the automatic or standard transmission fluid should be *changed, not flushed.

#6. Walmart sells Stoners Glass Cleaner. It's not expensive and works like a charm. Use folded news-papers to rub the glass dry. * Use Stoners sparingly!

#7. Rotate the tires as per the manufactures instructions in the glove compartment manual every time you change the oil

#8. As you rotate the tires, look at the brake pad thickness through the center of the caliper inspection hole.

#9. Every 60.000 miles have the brake fluid changed by the dealer of the car! Moisture from the atmosphere enters the master cylinder vent hole since the car rolled off the production line. As moisture accumulates it causes the brake lines to rust from the inside out, wheel-cylinders and brake calipers to freeze and lower the boiling point of the brake fluid. Lexus now recommends changing the brake fluid every two years regardless if mileage in there cars.

*We have been cleaning engine compartments 47 years, using this exact method. We've never had a re-start issue after cleaning the engine and entire compartment.

Read Case in the News, Detroit Tries It the Japanese Way?

shawnta e

What roles does creativity play in decision making at U.S. automakers? What roles do you think it should play?

...

Respond

Answer
Basically some American manufacturers are attempting to follow the Japanese method of creating and using a "common" chassis which then can be used for several brands of cars. It's more economical to use the same available skeleton and parts to underpin new styles of autos. It's innovatively using the same inventory rather than expensively creating each new car from new manufacturing processes.

Does America still make cars?

I heard Detroit been closed down and is gone bust

Answer
That going bust news you hear is about the city of Detroit. The city government. They are not talking about the car industry. The car industry in the US is quite profitable now.

Over 80% of the cars sold in the USA are made in the USA including a lot of Japanese brand vehicles.

Mercedes and BMW build SUVs in the USA too.

Why do so many uneducated people dislike Barack Obama?

Snap

Do people simply go with what Fox news says? I honestly don't understand why so many people can't accept that he's our President and "will" win the upcoming election. The Republican candidates are like children fighting over an action figure. Only idiots would vote for them. We finally have a President that uses his brain and you people don't seem to like that. Can anyone explain why so many people hate a man who has done so much for this great nation?
Ha Ha Ha! I love these answers! Keep em' coming guys!

Answer
Look at the clone for the taliban Santorum and you will see how whacked they truly are.

The Republican agenda for women and children is pure hate â it supports rape, murder, poverty, starvation, ignorance, pregnancy and slavery. You are probably aware that they just tried to pass a law in several states that would not only stop abortion, but deprive women of the pill, IUDs, and life-saving surgeries such as for ectopic pregnancy, or even if she needed cancer care while pregnant, she could not get it as it would harm the fetus.

Virginiaâs Republican legislature passed a law in both houses that would force women who seek a legal abortion to undergo unwanted medical penetration against their will and their doctors will. Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell promised heâd sign it until the women of Virginia demonstrated and he was forced to back down. Heâs still insisting on a medically unnecessary procedure to bully and intimidate women.

And who can forget the GOPâs âLet Women Die Act?â http://veracitystew.com/2011/10/13/gops-â¦

Here is a list of misogynistic bills introduced by Republicans during just two weeks in February, 2011, showing what they want for women.

1) Rape: Republicans are actually trying to redefine rape to exclude drugging a women and raping her, or getting her drunk and raping her. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't the language is still out there.

2) More Rape. A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other crimes, like robbery, would remain "victims." Apparently in Georgia if a woman is raped, she isnât really â is just an annoying accuser. Which means the rapist is not really a criminal.

3) Murder. In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder anyone who injures or threatens a fetus, including a doctor who provides abortion care and the mother. He denies it has anything to do with abortion so I guess it is aimed at making it OK for a husband or boyfriend to kill his partner if he thinks she might injure the fetus- like in a car accident, or he just doesnât like her anymore.

4) Starvation. Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids. But payments to corporations to not grow food, to keep prices high? Those are still in the budget.

5) Death. In Congress, Republicans have proposed a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life (so she and fetus die).

6) Ignorance and slavery. Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids' preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working. They should be slaves to their husbands instead.

7) More ignorance. At the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool.

8) Poverty and starvation. Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens.

9) Sickness. Congress voted on a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country.

10) Barefoot and pregnant. And if that wasn't enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans only - Republican Dan Burton, who supports eliminating funds for family planning has introduced a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. Horses have more value to him than Americaâs women?)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/19â¦

Mock the link if you like, Republicans, but you can verify all this for yourself using Google.

Eight million more women than men voted in the last presidential election, so cons WILL pay for this at the polls.

Car payment question.?

Jay-C

Okay, let's say I put a down payment on a car and bought it in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but than I moved to California. How exactly would I make the montly payments?

Answer
who ever you financed it through should give you a payment booklet or send you a bill just make sure they have all your new info. If it was with one of those small town high interest places that finance it on the lot then you need to let them know you have moved and that you need to make some arrangement with getting payments to them!

Do you pay extra car payments?

pink_me

If you have a car loan, do you make extra payments on it, and if so, how much? What are the benefits of paying off your car early versus putting the money in your emergency fund?

I'm trying to determine the best thing to do in my situation (I owe $6,300 on my 2002 car at 4.39 percent and I'm earning 4.4% in ING, not including other funds in CDs making higher rates). In a couple of months when my personal debt is gone, I was planning to make extra payments on my car to retire it early. What would you do?

Answer
I just made an extra car payment today - am cutting out of debt and want to pay it off early.

If you have other debt, such as credit cards that have higher interst rates, and you've been paying on your car for a while, you may want to pay off the higher interest rate debt first since you probably pay the bulk of interest at the beginning of a car loan. So put the extra money toward higher interest debt first.

Congrats on wanting to be debt free - and on using places like ING for savings. I use ING for my emergency plan money.
