iPhone 4 in Athens, Greece?

Q. I could be going to Athens, Greece in February and I was curious on if I would get any service in the city.

I have a job that demands people getting a hold of me quite often through my phone. If I can't get AT&T service, how would I be able to get service at the city?

You can...but there are certain problems with it...Here are a few problems:

No Micro-Sim in Greece
My first initiative was to inquire with all mobile phone providers about a micro-sim; as you know, with the iPhone 4, Apple introduced the Micro-Sim, which in theory contains the same information chip as the standard Sim Card, however the dimensions of the chip itself is reduced to about 15 mm x 12 mm. Itâs the same size as used in the iPad, however the iPad chip does not work due to different content and configuration.
No provider can provide a Micro-Sim in Greece. Consequently I chopped up a regular Sim to stuff it into the Phone ⦠and the experiment failed. 3 Days later I was in possession of an O2 Micro-Sim my friend Zo Nicholas had sent me from the UK and the device could finally be activated.

Roaming Cost in Greece
In spite the new European legislation trimming roaming cost across Europe I could not see any progress. After a few hours of testing features and links I was 20 Pounds down. Whatâs actually killing the interest is international data transfer. The next 20 Pounds held for roughly 24 hours whereas I was careful switching off data roaming after each targeted use.
A better experience resulted of course by using local WiFi and Hot spots.

Roaming Services in Greece
Most of the time I have been using Cosmote or Vodafone as local service providers. How surprised was I that it takes up to 24 hours for a sent email to reach the addressee! I donât actually know if this is inherent to low quality services here in Greece or if there is another cause, fact is, at this level mobile email is useless. Just for the record, I tested the email function in parallel from my desktop where it took just a few seconds to reach destination.

Connectivity â Antenna
While here in Vouliagmeni there is no connection problem as we are well exposed, my experience became a nightmare on Syros Island, the main island of the Cyclades. In the main town the reception was fine while just a few kilometers outside, the iPhone proved to be useless.

Apple discriminates Greece
The known antenna problem with the iPhone 4 triggered Apple to update the software and to launch the Free iPhone 4 Case Program. My experience shows that it is not just a matter of how the phone is held or whether it sticks in a case or not: the Apple iPhone 4 Antenna has an engineering problem and any car constructor would have to recall itâs concerned production.
Second: while the free case program is provided through an App, that Application cannot be accessed through the Greek App Store! May be itâs just because the iPhone 4 is not yet available for sale in Greece? In any case: the iPhone is a device for mobile people and the features allow to communicate from anywhere with anyone: why should apple not change itâs attitude to global and provide the same degree of service to all customers, irrespective where they live?
In the case of the case program itâs just a matter of a link and at least 1 case to be shipped to Greece â I am waiting for it :-).
By the way: I went to Apple support online to draw their attention to the iPhone 4 problems existing in Greece. No reaction so far, which is understandable considering the masses of complaints they get from their main markets.

A Positive Note
The iPhone 4 is a great step ahead in many respects and while not an Apple fan, I must admit: I love this device. It shoots nice clips and pictures, lets you organize your contacts, has a brilliant display screen, allows for multitasking, it can mow your lawn, you water-ski on it or you surf the wave at the beach, it gives you a shave in the morning, it pays your bills at the taverna, it plays a Serenade under the balcony of your sweatheart, it fixes your computer and repairs your car, it can even take you to the Moon and the stars â¦
⦠but itâs useless as a Phone, at least when you are island hopping in Greece.

so i just upgraded it to the 3G S thing and it says i would have streaming video and stuff like that... like 30 mins later it finished and i dont have streaming video...


i have other features like the keyboard flip on SMS and a few other but not video!

How do i make my iTunes music Louder?

I frequently listen to music from my iPhone in my car. I have an FM transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Recently I've noticed that some songs are louder than others and I was wondering if there was an app that i can get for my mac or just something I can do in iTunes besides the "Get Info" option and turning up the volume there. I need something that will just boost the volume of the song.

some music is louder then others because of a lack of an equalizer. Just set up a equalizer on iTunes (should be in your music settings) and all songs will have the same consistant volume.

I bought this iTrip product for use with an iPhone 3GS. I am familiar with the limitations of FM transmitters and have purchased various models over the years including Griffin iTrip predescessors and have had decent success (particular units like Griffin that allow you to set the FM station to below 88.1 using Europe settings).

This unit is seriously flawed. First of all, even though it indicates that it is iPhone (3G/3GS) compatible, the iPhone displays an error message that the iTrip is not compatible with the iPhone. Apparently this is due to lack of certification from Apple.

Ignoring this problem, I was unable to get the FM transmitter to work on a clear station. The unit charges the iPhone fine. I tried several station, including 87.9, several cars, and several devices (iTouch, old iPod), etc. I contacted Griffin and they sent me a replacement unit.

The replacement unit faired a little better. I was able to get it to work in one car.

How can one derive a car dealership's actual invoice price on a vehicle?

A sticker price might reveal a figure that matches what one might find in a blue book, Edmunds, or website for that make and model. How, then, can one determine the actual amount that a specfic dealership spent, to acquire the car?

Jail breaking it breaks your warranty with apple or your service provider so for any reason some thing goes bad you get a virus it atop working or anything you will never ever get a replacement and just last yer many people just found out that jail braking it mean your relying on some one else who may not have your best interest in mind when a bunch of contact info and viruses came on board and wiped out thousands of people credit along with credit card info

See jail breaking means some hacker took the iOS software broke it and then rereleased it for people to reset there devices with and you don't know what they broke or what they didn't or what security is left till it's to late

And no once it is jail broken you have to download apps off of another website the iTunes store still needs credit card info which means that you will be using your credit card on a device your not even sure is secure or not for me

I'm rather happy spending pocket change on some thing I know is secure and is not leaking info out into the wild were some hacker may have it to use for there own apps or a new car

Not really. The closest thing I can suggest is making some Notes on the already installed app...or in your contacts have parents/family contact numbers. For example, Sarah (sister) or so on.
