Chinese VS. Indian cars?

Partial Di

I am biased towards Indian cars.cause I am Indian, but I think they are better.

Why?

Because they have better crash safety, even the tiny Tata Nano is better than a Chinese coupe or smalls sedan in terms of front and rear impact.

Indian cars usualyl have more powerful power plants.

More reliability, if you know Mahindra and TATA, they will go on forever.

They actually have nice diesel engines, and have better engine tech because they have bought many "powerful" western engine making companies and have ventures with Japanese companies like Honda and Suzuki.

Interior of Indian cars is......bad, worse than Chinese cars. But, other than that, I see no other faults.

But what do you guys think?

(Please no uneducated folk who think of India as a cow herding country just because it hasn't been in the news as much as China; stop looking at info from the 70's or 80's.)

Answer
Chinese cars suck, which is why GM is taking over the market in China.
Indian cars not equipped with the appropriate features for the American market. Not only that, since India likes to hope on the train with the best opportunities, like the relationship between India and Russia during the Cold War, even with the appropriate modifications you'll not going to see those cars in the USA.

Even if such vehicles are allowed inside, I really doubt they would sale. Ask KIA how hard it was to get into the American market versus Japanese vehicles, European vehicles, Ford, GM, Daimwhatever, etc. Shoot, why do you not ask an more harder question like this.
Hell, Indian cars will not even sale in California which has an extremely strong car culture, possibly the most out of all the States. Car sales here are the highest in the USA and there's no adequate public transportation in So.Cal. Taxis are hell a lot expensive compared to NY. The MetroLink train that runs on very specific and few "Lines" charges 56.2 cents a mile. =/ It takes me over 15 dollars from Fontana to LA Union Station. It takes me less than 3 dollars to drive there on the 210, safer and faster as well, That shows you how much car industry's lobbyist hinder Public Transportation efforts.

Also, many States are adapting much of Californian emission laws which are the toughest in the USA.

Which car is better, Indian or Brazilian.

Also, diesel engines will not sale well in the USA because it's very inconvenient. Take Peugot, or w/e it's called, they did not survive the American market.

Here are some reasons for the car diesel disadvantages.

1-Diesel engines are dirty and do not meet Federal standards, let alone many States because of all the MPG legislation and stronger emission rates in the US.
2-I only see diesel pumps in very random and few places here in So.Cal.
3- Diesel is more expensive than 87 octane here in So.Cal
4-Diesel engines will have to be nerfed in power and torque to be fuel efficient and better emissions.
5-Diesel technology is expensive, therefore diesel engines are also. I read this article in Car and Drive about reintroducing diesel engines to the American market. The specs for the vehicle were weak and the cost high. =(

Also, you see our big rigs use diesel and also a very few amount of big cab trucks because diesel gives more torque than power. The major problem about these "work horses" is because.....

Department of Motor Vehicles charge more money because it's a work-vehicle if powered by diesel and it's a truck, in California the registration is higher regardless if it's diesel or not so long the truck is listed as work-vehicle. =(

Conclusion.

Though Indian vehicles are better than Chinese, it'l never survive the Western market for long without a lot of costly changes, even if India's economy has "cheaper" labor than USA the American car buyers still will not purchase the car if not assembled in USA and will never buy a Chinese car. LMFAO. Do you see the products they make? They hardly last long and just bad. That's just another story.

Sorry for long story but to compare to countries products than you'll have to compare them to the leading country's industry before assessing. By comparison, India vehicles are better constructed, less pollutant, a bit better mileage, but will all become obsolete soon and big waste for designing diesel engines since they'll never be efficient. =(

Will china continue to claim japan's senkaku islands while cancer victims in china are increasing?

Sense

My heart goes out to the cancer victims and their families.

http://rt.com/news/china-water-pollution-cancer-346/

the number of cancer victims continues to rise in china after years of pollution china factories, cars and lax cost cutting environmental regulations are making the country plagued with pollution, from soils, water, moving air, rain to snow. Fruits are found deformed because of the pollution damage to the DNA.

will china stop claiming japan's senkaku Islands in order to make this long lasting pollution plague stop damaging the health of chinese people and the food products and water ?

kind regards for your answers.

Answer
Interesting that you should ask.

China has been a perpetual land grabber since time immemorial.

Historically China has sought to grab territories on its western and northern borders. Theft of lands of Mongolia, East Turkestan and Tibet are glaring examples.

China cannot steal any more land on its northern and western borders. They cannot afford to bully the Russians in ceding any land on the northern border and wants no more of "Stan" countries' land for the fear of rubbing the Moosleems wrong way and inviting terror attacks from al Qaeda et al.

The only other opportunity for land grabbing lies in the east and hence China is bullying its small neighbors.

The rise of cancer villages in China is the result of the sins on account of land grabbing and thievery that China keeps committing.

Thor is the benevolent God and his hammer strikes those who bully their neighbors, steal their land and keep picking fight.

Thor sent me this message - I will raise my hammer and come to the aid of everyone being oppressed by the Chinese bullies.

pc/xbox/ps/nintendo game ideas?

Chloe

I need to think of a game for media studies. I have absolutely no idea, I'm not the biggest fan of gaming so any help will be help! Thanks :))

Answer
Well what's the angle? Why do you need to think of a game? Is there a project that must be done? Are you to try playing a game, discussing games, or inventing a new game of your own? Let me just try to cover all the bases:

Positive Topics about video games include: How gaming has changed and advanced (like online multiplayer). Or positive things gained from playing games like teamwork, critical thinking skills, reaction time, logic, and problem-solving skills. (Zoo Tycoon was a recently released, friendly, video game, or games like "sims" and racing games, or more educational games like "Brain Age" and sesame streets Kinect games.

Negative Topics include Violence and psychological issues: Is gaming addicting or bad? (World of Warcraft is called addictive and has many news stories like about couples breaking up because it consumes peoples lives) ...What about Children playing adult oriented games, (some people feel violence in games is tolerable if it is human vs monster and not human vs human.

Some controversial games: Grand Theft Auto (has strip clubs and crime and drugs), Gears of War (major gore), Call of Duty (humans killing other humans/glorifying war)

The video game Hitman was made into a movie, and features a controversial element of the fact that girls disguised as "sexy nuns" were used in the recent story and that offended some people.

If you are in charge of inventing a new game, consider what Angry Birds does: A simple arcade style (side-scroller) but the birds don't have wings anymore (maybe that's why they are angry =P ) So you could take another simple game concept (pinball, tetris, tower defense, aliens, mutants, zombies, demolition derby) or combine 2 together (like how "zombie driver" arcade game is a zombie killer game but you drive a demolition car around with weapons all "twisted metal" style) ...but attach some new character like your favorite animal but with one changed major feature of it, Like a cat with moose antlers. You can be quite silly and be majorly successful... look at super Mario brothers: Plumbers rescuing a princess from turtles and dragons, eating mushrooms and wearing beaver hats.

Or if you want to be a little more serious consider games like "Too Human" which is based off of mythology. Or "Dynasty Warriors" & "Samurai Warriors" portray the history of ancient china. (Creating an action/adventure game that turns learning history and culture into a fun experience)
So you can create a main character (like a scientist, going on dangerous missions) and use the story to promote some learning aspect (don't think much has covered native american culture yet)

Travel Malaysia, Bangkok,Singapore with wife?

akmmorshed

I want to travel Bangkok & Singapore from Malaysia by rail with my wife. Can anybody tell me the fastest train from Malaysia to Bangkok and Singapore with fare, route and time please? I would appreciate if some one can tell me about the budget hotels near city center of Malaysia, Bangkok & Singapore with fare, if possible, place of visit of Malaysia, Bangkok, Singapore with reasons.

Answer
I have taken the train from Bangkok to Singapore through Malaysia. So I know there are trains going in the other direction. The ride is long and slow! No bullet speed trains! You get what you get! You may be able to upgrade to First Class or even a sleeper car (especially the Thai part of the ride.) But you are in for a long ride!

Possible layover spots are in Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth-Penang, Hat Yai Thailand. I think I did the run for under $100 US, including one cheap hotel in Butterworth. I used First Class from Butterworth to Singapore. For sleeper cars in Thailand get the request in early. (Three different currencies including your own.)

Seat 61 has some good information on this rail system. Plus just use Google and you will be surprised with how much info you can get.

Good luck.

What kind of car should I get?

fr33sh95

Im turning 16 and the maximum I can spend is $20,000. I like suvs or sporty looking sedans. I really like the 2010 4runner but I think that's too expensive and too many people drive the model before that.
I don't care at all if its an old model and used

Answer
Your probably going to prefer a New car rather then a Used car for $20,000 but if you are in the market for a Used car aswell you could always try searching for a 2006-2007 Infiniti FX35 crossover, its fast, sporty, luxurious and more affordable to maintain compared to a BMW or a Mercedes. And If your in the market for a new car then I would suggest the NEW 2011 Kia Sportage. Now Im usually not a big fan of Kia at all but thier new Sportage SUV has diffently caught my attention. One of Audi's Cheif Designers helped design the 2011 Kia Sportage which is why the SUV may resemble a little to the Audi line up, this is why the Kia sportage recieves familar styling Q's such as LED Day time running light like the ones found in an Audi, LED tail lights that embed them selves into the rear just the way the A4 is designed. The Kia Sportage is diffently a good looking car to me, It comes with features/options like a Panoramic sunroof, LED Head & Tail lights, Hands free Bluetooth and the best thing of all is that the car starts at $18,295 brand spanking new. Its not the most amazing affordable SUV out there but its deffintley one that is worth taking a look at. Here are some pictures the 2011 Kia Sportage.

http://getcar.co.kr/data_carpix/1/36/sportageR_sunroof-b.jpg

EDIT: Now If your looking for a luxury sport SUV then your obviously going to have to buy a used car becuase most luxury sport SUVs start at $35,000 and exceed $75,000. Although I would not recomend a luxury car to a 16 year old I cant forbid them either, some used Luxury sport SUVs under $20,000 are a 2005-2006 BMW X3, 2004-2005 BMW X5, 2005-2006 Infiniti FX35. If your interested in a sedan you can easily get a used 2006 BMW 325i or a 2007 BMW 328i for under $20,000, you can also search for some 2006 Lexus IS250 sedans or a 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan.

Edit: And to the guy who thumbed me down below cause I know it was him, dont listen to a word he says. Japenese cars are the most successful auto manufacturers, if anything dont buy American. No one buys American cars anymore, I mean there is a reason why Hummer, Mercury, Pontiac and Saturn are all being discontinued by the year 2011.

how do you make a mouse trap car?

i r e

how do you make a mouse trap car that travels over 25 meters? you need a body for the car, wheels, mouse trap, etc..

Answer
This is a lot of info so get ready

You need the following materials to build your mouse trap car:

* A mouse trap (of course).
* Two metal rods that are each 4 mm in diameter and 15 mm longer in length than the width of the mouse trap you are using for the car. These rods will act as the axles for the car.
* Four eyehole screws that are barely large enough to put the metal rods through.
* Plywood or any other type of thinly cut wood for the wheels.
* Two rubber bands.
* String.
* Washers with an inner diameter of 4 mm.

While the materials for a mouse trap car are easy to come by, you may not have all of the a tools necessary. To build the car, you will need the following tools:

* Drill with a 3.7 mm drill bit.
* Jigsaw (a coping saw will also work).
* Compass to make a template for the wheels.
* Hammer.
* Vice.
* Hacksaw.
* Wood file.
* Wood glue or super glue.
* Epoxy (the type of glue that comes in two parts which you mix together).
* Plies.
* A small Jewelerâs File.

To begin construction, you need to use your pliers to pull the wire that holds the mouse trap open out of the trap. Also remove the bait holder, as this part is not necessary. Keep the wire catch to the side though, you will use it later. Also pull out any staples that may have held the previously removed parts in place. When everything is removed, take the eye hooks and screw them into one end of the mouse trap approximately 8 mm from each edge. If the wood begins to split as you screw the eye screw in, simply drill a small hole first.

You can make the wheels by using the compass to create four 75 mm circles on the plywood. The wheels can be larger or smaller if you choose, but 75 mm is a good size for relatively long distance runs. When the wheels have been sketched, cut along your freshly drawn line with a jigsaw and file them down along the edges so that they are nice and smooth. Then take the rods and place them in a vice. Cut them to exactly equal length and file the ends so that they are nice and smooth as well. Cut about half way through one of the rods with the hacksaw and use the jewelerâs file to widen the slot enough to allow the wire catch that was removed from the trap in an earlier step to fit into the groove snugly. Cut a 7 mm piece of the wire catch and file down the ends. Using the epoxy, glue the piece of wire into the slot on the axle so that the wire overhangs only on one side. Let the epoxy dry overnight.

When the glue is dry, place the axle with the wire at the rear of the mouse trap (where the jaws of the trap rest when the trap is set). Place the other axle through its respective eye holes screws. Add washers to the end of the axles so that the axles will not slide out. Drill a hole into the center of each of the wheels with your 3.7 mm drill bit and then slide the wheels onto each of the rods.

Now for the actual power behind the mouse trap car. Take your string and tie it to the middle of the jaws of the mouse trap (the part which snaps down on the mouse). Tie a loop in the other end so that the loop is located exactly at the rear axle. Cut off any loose ends. Take the two rubber bands and place one around each of the rear wheels for extra traction. You can glue the rubber bands into place so they will not slide off.

To use the mouse trap car, simply raise the jaws of the trap slightly and take the looped end of the string and place in over the wire that was attached to the rear axle. Reverse the car to allow the string to wind around the axle and pull open the jaws of the trap. Release the car on the ground and it will speed away.

And there you have it, everything included. Good Luck

How do i paint my car wheels (and parts)?

Q. I bought a wrx off a chick and the car has rota attack rims and aftermarket pink lug nuts
the rims have a black, iridescent color to them and i wirewheeled the pink paint of the lug nuts and inside them too
my rotors, inside of the lug nuts and calipers get a rusty appearance when it rains
should i paint my rims black or platidip them black? either option, which is easier, and how to do it
and how do i paint my lug nuts?
and rotors and calipers?
any advice or tips or ideas where i can find info helps!

Answer
Refinishing a car's wheel would be very similar to refinishing a car, although some laquers you wouldn't consider using on a car might be appropriate for wheels. So in short, it's a matter of stripping and cleaning and prepping the wheels, then slowly building up multiple coats of pain (and clear if going with a multistage finish). If you're not sure how to do that, tehn you're probably much better off having a professional do it (probably be around $100-150 a wheel).

Lug nuts are similar, although you may want to go with a finish that is designed for higher temperature resitance since lug nuts tend to see higher temperature transure as a result of a more direct connection to the hubs/brakes.

Rotors... really? You do not want to paint any contact suraface with the brakes! The most likely outcome is that the paint would be worn off the first time you used the brakes. The worst case scenario is that it would be worn off, but would reduce the friction enough to prevent your brakes from working effectively (thus causing you to lose paint on other parts of your car). So really, don't try to paint your rotors!

Calipers. You'll take apart the calipers the same as if you were doing a rebuild. Strip them and clean and prep them, and then paint with a high temperature laquer (depending on the finish you may also need to bake it in). Then rebuild the caliper and reinstall.

If you are uncertain how to rebuild a caliper, then again, probably something that is better left to a professional.

Car insurance - some info online says if I have an accident my collission insurance should pay not only for?

heart_and_

repairs but also for the dimunition in value of the car (e.g., it's no longer a car that's never been in an accident, for which a buyer might pay a bit more). My Calif ins agent says, on behalf of the major national insurer for which he is a captive agent, 'no'. Who's right?

Answer
First of all, this is going to vary by state.

MOST policies have rewritten COLLISION coverage to EXCLUDE dimunition of value. I'm not saying there's not a policy out there that still has it, I'm just saying, if there is, I don't know about it.

On the other hand, the PROPERTY DAMAGE part of your policy - if the accident is YOUR fault, and you damaged someone elses car, well, that WILL cover dimunition of value, in MOST STATES.

So you can't get first party dimunition of value, but you can get third party dimunition of value. Collision is a first party coverage only - so I'm siding with your agent. You could only collect it under someone ELSE'S policy, if they were at fault for the accident. Not your own.

Tips on buying a new car?

Lexi

I'm about to start shopping for my first brand new car. I've never had to deal with car salespeople before though. My first car was given to me and my 2nd car I bought from my mom. How should I go about this? How do I make sure I get a good deal and not get screwed over?

Answer
Do ALL your research online first!

I remember my first new car ... I had never 'haggled' for a purchase before, did not know how the whole system worked. I basically got talked into screwing myself ... paid way more than the car was worth, got a lousy loan. All because I did not know what I was doing (although it's worth noting this was before everything was online, and there weren't useful resources like this to learn from).

My last new car (4th in about 15 years), I did everything online. I researched the various vehicles that I was interested in (I highly recommend these websites for research: http://www.kbb.com [Kelly Blue Book] and http://www.edmunds.com ... they are both excellent sources), then contacted a couple local dealers online (using the tools available from Edmunds if I recall correctly) and basically made a deal via email to get the car at or below MSRP. I did go to the dealership in order to test drive the vehicle and finalize the deal, and they kept trying to switch me away from their "internet sales manager" to a regular sales guy, so watch out for that trick! If you make a deal with a sales guy online, then he has to be the guy you sign with!

I think (it's been a while since I checked) that sites like KBB and Edmunds have buyer's guides that will help explain how dealers work ... how they do the whole 'haggle' process.

If for some reason you can't make the deal online, and need to go into a dealer to do the old-fashioned 'haggle' process, here are a few tips:

Before you go into the dealer, you need to know exactly how much you are willing to pay.

You need to determine if you want a loan, and if so, what kind of loan would you be eligible for.

Will you be trading in a vehicle? If so, be aware that dealers usually use the NADA guide and not Kelly Blue Book to determine trade in value ... NADA gives way way way lower values than KBB or other rating guides. You can estimate your trade-in value with NADA here: http://www.nadaguides.com/

Consider going to your bank/credit union/favorite lender (have you looked at LendingTree.com? I like them) to apply for a new auto loan before you go to the dealer. Many lenders have online tools that will help you calculate what you can afford, and you could even apply for the loan online. Most online car loan calculators can take into account the trade in value or cash down payment when estimating your loan details.

A cash down payment usually makes the dealer more willing to "deal" with you, and they don't actually like trade-ins because that just makes more work for them to try to re-sell the used car at a profit. It might make more sense to sell your old car yourself instead of trading it in.

If you know you have very good or better credit, you should not accept any loan rate higher than 8%, no term (length) longer than 5 years. If your credit rating is "less than perfect" as they say in the commercials, then you may not have a lot of choice in the types of loans you can get.

The sales guy will try to avoid telling you what the actual purchase price is (price is not set in stone, MSRP is only a recommendation and the dealer can ask for as much as they want ... that's known as "dealer markup" aka "asking price").

They try to make you focus on monthly payments ("you can afford this much, can't you?") ... that is a trick. Sure you might be able to afford XXX dollars a month, but they aren't showing you for how long, or at what interest rate. Making a deal based on that info could end up costing you thousands of dollars more than it should.

If they do that, just keep saying "let's talk about the cash price". Try to get them to settle on an actual purchase price before you discuss other details like loan or trade in.

Some dealers hate it if you walk in with paperwork (for example, print outs from Edmunds or KBB showing what you *should* be paying for a particular car). It's a Catch-22 situation ... you ought to do that to inform and protect yourself, but it might cause the sales guy to jerk you around for a while. Some sales guys are nice & straight-forward, and some are jerks.

You can't tell by appearance which is which. The core issue there is that the sales guy gets paid on commission ... he has an incentive to get you to pay as much as possible for a car in order to boost his own paycheck. The most flexible sales guy is often one who hasn't made quota and is desperate to make sales. He'll take less profit in order to make quota. Someone who has already made quota doesn't have that incentive to deal any more, and he'll be more willing to play you out.

Another sales trick is if you have a trade-in vehicle with you, the sales guy will tell you that they need to "check out" the car to figure out it's trade-in value, so they ask you to hand over the keys, but what they do is hide the keys and then make you wait ... and wait ... and wait. The longer they make you wait, the more impatient you become to fin

car vin number?

im selling my car and someone ask for the vin number.. is it safe to give out my car vin number?

Answer
Completely safe. Anyone walking past your car can see it. There is nothing bad that can be done with this information. It's like your license plate number, public info. The person probably wants to know the VIN # so that they can check it's history on Carfax or somthing.

can i buy software that GIVES ME INFORMATION FOR CARS BY USING VIN NUMBER?

autopartsp

Answer
I seriously doubt it. To get an accurate answer go to a new dealer's parts counter and ask your question. The VIN # has very secure information on it. #1. With a VIN # You could walk into any dealership that sells that vehicle they could supply every bit of info on the car including key codes. You have to prove your the owner of a VIN before you get anything. The info is stored on a Ford, Chevrolet computer program. You don't find these dealer factory programs at Staples or Tiger Direct.

EV car news article boasting 112 MPG http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/69-month-lease-mitsubishi-miev-bec?

Jason

ok...maybe I'm an idiot, but is an EV car all electric meaning no gasoline of other fuel? so how do they get a figure of 112 Miles Per Gallon (MPG) in a news article i just read on yahoo? ?.

Answer
We're stuck with MPG for electric cars for the same reason we still use "horsepower" to measure engine power. Engines have little to do with horses, but early car buyers wanted to use a metric they understood - horses.
*
Electric cars don't burn gas, so there are a couple of different ways to compare electric power to gasoline. The first is called MPGe, and this measurement compares the efficiency of the electric car to the theoretical "kilowatt-hour" equivalent energy stored in a gallon of gas. This is the MPG number you usually see attached to an electric car, it is easy to calculate and use for comparison, but it has little to do with reality.
*
Much more useful is cost-equivalent MPG, in other words, how far can you travel in an electric car for what a gallon of gasoline costs? Unfortunately, this number varies from day to day and from place to place with the changing prices of gasoline and electricity, which is why you never see this number used.
*
Example: I drive a Chevy Volt. The official MPGe number is 93 MPG. But the cost equivalent MPG for me (using my local electricity and gas prices) is about 190 MPG. Big difference!

I have questions on the world's most cheapest car in Yahoo! news?

questionpr

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080110/ap_on_bi_ge/india_ultracheap_car

Well, it's a very compact car, and I was just wondering if this is a very safe car to purchase. Not just safe as in the pockets, but safe as in the driving.... what do you think? To make my question clearer, what if I were to be in an accident with a regular compact car [like say a toyota], will i be safe when both cars hit impact? Or we're just both screwed? Or my car is just too compact that I will be crushed to my death?

Furthermore, it doesn't have airbags. Of course, by the time they get to exporting the vehicle, they would have to comply to US laws, right?

Answer
I read that article too, very interesting. It appears that the car was designed specifically for India's low income folks, but it would be unlikely to be exported to most "Western" countries due to is lacking many of the required safety functions such as air bags.

If they did import I don't think it is the first time a cheap small car like that would have hit the market. Yugo's and Geo's have all ready come and gone.

car accident question... please help? insurance info if available?

MommyofTWO

ok, my husband, son and i were going to walmart 4/26/08 when a guy ran a stop sign and we hit him... our car wasnt damaged but the guy that ran the stop sign's was. He didnt want to turn it in or anything so since ours wasnt harmed and it was no big deal we let it go(thinking we were doing a favor). Well, not sure how but he found out my husbands name and is now calling him wanting to turn it in- apparently the price to fix the car is higher than he wants to pay. He's acting like he can get us in trouble or something. Is this true? if so we didnt think it was a big deal at the time due to no harm to our property... what advice can someone give me? please anything helpful is appreciated. Is it possible to backdate something because i wouldnt care to do so if possible... it's not going to effect our insurance since it wasn't our fault so i wouldnt mind... but... is this possible? Btw, the state is WV and I have insurance with Safeco.
plus-no info was exchanged except apparently names
yeah, it's a weird intersection that looks like a 4-way stop but one lane DOESN't have to stop.. (we were in that lane) he just kinda came out into our lane-not sure if he ran the stop sign or not but still the point is that we had the right of way... just to clarify what happened... ifigure you guys are right about the whole no insurance thing and thats why he didnt want to. This was my first accident so I have already learned..report everything-lol. Luckily I took your guys advice and called my insurance and they are taking care of it. The damage speaks for itself and so does the location it happened. They are sending someone to look at the location and we have to take the car to someone to get it inspected.

Answer
The other car ran a stop sign and wants you to pay for it? Granted there is more to the story that what you said in that one line.....but if the other guy is the cause of the accident - your company will not pay him.

Call the guy - get his name, address, phone number, year/make/model of is car, what part damage. Tell him you are going to report it to your insurance company and will have them call him.

Then call your company and report the claim to the. Give them all the information on the guy so they can contact him.

If you want to -- call the guy and then give him the name, phone number and claim number.

Now--- you never have to speak to him again. You do not have to discuss anything with him.

If he calls you after that--- you tell him to call the adjuster.

The insurance company will do an investigation. That includes getting your statement and the statement of the other driver. They will also photograph both vehicles and possibly do a scene investigation.

If the accident is your fault- they will pay the guy. It will protect you from a law suit.

If the accident is not your fault - they will deny his claim. If he files a lawsuit - they will hire a lawyer to defend you.

This is what insurance is for. Let your company deal with it. Just be sure to let the adjuster know any concerns you have and cooperate in the investigation of the claim.

car accident. Need info about repairs being taken care of.?

I was in a car accident on the 15th. For some reason the police did not offer to give me the at fault drivers insurance info or name. I was a bit shook up and didn't think to ask. I called my insurance company (state farm) to make a claim in order to get a rental car to make it to and from work. The police report is now ready, and I am going to pick it up in the morning. My question is: My insurance company explained to me that the way it would work is that I use my insurance and then his reimburses. My only problem with that is that I have to shell out the $250 deductable. Should I be able to get that from his insurance before my car is fixed. I really don't have the money with christmas coming up. I also had to shell out $50 for a deposit on the rental, and I get to pick up the towing bill. I don't see where it is fair that I should have to pay anything out of my pocket. Please give me any advice possible. Insurance worker are very appreciate for expert advice.

Answer
The answer from wrenched is really one sided and there is no reason to accuse your agent of anything bad. What it looks like is that after the accident you reported this to your agent or claims office and they started the claim process. If you needed a rental car right away b/c you car was not drivable this was the best thing to do since you did not have the other persons information. You are required to mitigate your damages(in this case it would mean not to just sit around and drive a rental car while nothing is being done and your car is just sitting there.) and you did. Everything that you have done is correct

Now that you have the other persons insurance information you can call them and see if they are accepted responsibility for the accident. If so then they may be able to switch over the rental bill to their name and pick up the repair cost in full. Keep in mind that they will need to review your repair shops estimate and pictures and will have had to have completed their investigation of the accident. If their driver never called them, then they are several steps behind and will not be able to pay regardless of what the police report says. If your car is ready to be picked up and the other company has accepted responsibility, you may be able to ask for the deductible and towing to be paid to you and let the your insurance company handle the rest of their subrogation. Neither company can do anything about the rental deposit. It is required by the rental company for their security. You insurance company has a contract with the rental company that actually lowered the deposit from $250 to $50 because you have insurance with them.

You are not giving up your right to the claim like Wretched said, you are giving up your rights to whatever your insurance company paid only. If you continue on the way you are going, your insurance company will collect their money and your deductible for you. This is all normal. I agree it is not fair that you have the out of pocket expenses up front. I would call the other insurance company and ask if they can pay your tow bill, deductible, and even rental. Your agent did the right thing, they had you taken care of to get you going

What's the best used car to get for $3500?

LinhEatsDe

So I'm only 15 and turning 16 pretty soon and my parents are letting me pick out a car and I have absolutely no clue what to buy within my price range that's also very efficient. I've heard Honda and Toyota is exceptionally reliable and doesn't break down as easily. So what's the best model and make that's also very cheap but yet runs really well?
Also can you give me some tips on negotiating a good price with the dealer?

Tax info on selling cars.?

joshua

Me and my friend buy cars from auctions and sell them through a wholesaler. Im the money so i pay for all of it and my friend is the mechanic/salesman. We sell the car and the check is made out to the wholesale dealer then the dealer takes 100$ and gives me a check for the rest. I deposit my check and pay my friend his half of the profits. Question is what kind of trouble am i going to get in taxwise. Am i going to get a trouble or get a huge bill for this later and what precautions should i take. Thanks.

Answer
Hello
Precautions you should take:
*go to a registered tax agent (now, it is mostly accountants who qualify for that registration). I don't recommend going to a mass-production individual tax return agent like ITP or H&R Block simply because the person at the desk may not be an accountant. Such a person likely didn't study law and yours is a capital gains tax offense at the least; at worst the ATO could view it as tax evasion (that's why it isn't a good idea in this particular case to phone their customer service line). You could go to a tax solicitor but won't need a tax lawyer so early - or at all - if you show you are making an effort to fix your problem. The tax accountant will have studied law and can help you lodge what is called a "voluntary disclosure" to help minimise the severity of consequences for you. (Sorry, I won't give you clues on how you can defend this but maybe a tax accountant or lawyer can help depending on what you tell them. If you consult a solicitor you will have confidentiality).

* The other precautions are to think about telling/not telling your mechanic friend what you intend to do in coming clean as this will affect him too. If you do, I advise talking to him with family members or friends around in case it gets ugly or violent. A good idea is for both of you to share expenses in paying for a tax accountant to help you out in explaining it to the Tax Office and working out how much you owe, and negotiating whether you could avoid paying the interest owed plus what affordable instalments you can make. A few hundred dollars for a few consultations with a CPA tax agent versus unknown legal fees, a fine, and/or maybe a jail sentence - that's not hard to choose.

Don't wait and do nothing because the Tax Office has a sophisticated "data matching" computer program: it is a matter of time before they ask you about it because they have the power to access records from the retailer (not 'wholesaler' as you call him) and from your bank. The longer you avoid paying back what you owe the worse it can get if you wait to find out whether they will ever detect what you've done. It's probably because your gains were only small amounts that you haven't been on their priority generated list yet. It all adds up depending on how many years this has been going on

Can you help me figure out car taxes and other extra costs?

Danimal

I am about to graduate from college and I am wanting to purchase a car in the $13-16 grand price range. I am getting a loan from a bank with great rates by using bankrate.com. I am a Texas resident. I am buying online after test driving the car. How much can I expect to pay in fees including sales tax of the car, title, etc. Thanks for the help. Does anyone recommend buying in a different state to save money? I am basically wanting to know how much will I owe after the msrp cost of the car.

Answer
average about 10% for fees and taxes. So if the car is 13000, then expect to pay 14,300 for the car. This is pretty reliable info - my dad is a car dealer, and I used to work in a dealership. This is what we would tell our customers to anticipate, and it's pretty accurate.

Shameless self-promotion: my dad buys cars at wholesale and sells them for a flat fee over the wholesale value. If you're interested, he might be able to save you a lot of money. I bought a BMW for 4K less than the average selling price in my area, including a fee to him...call him at 619-254-2940 and see if he can help you with your car purchase. Good luck! :)

car insurance $6000!?!?!?

I'm 18 years old, have a clean driving record, and i drive a 2007 honda civic coupe. My name is insured on my parents honda pilot and lexus 350(suv). For some reason my insurance (for myself only not including famly) is around 6000. is this right? i'm under AAA and they said its going to be this expensive with any insurance company. I have 2 way coverage and and $250 deductable. Can someone name some other company that charges significantly less with coverage and a deductable just as good. Links and sources would be appreciated also
san francisco, CA

Answer
I can give you some links for lower priced insurance but cut rate insurance companies have a reputation for doing poor repairs and giving you the level of coverage you paid for. You may want to consider staying on your parent insurance policy as they are getting discounts for multiple vehicles and most likely having their home owners insurance tied to the policy. On your own you are at the highest risk and being charged extra for not having previous insurance. You should show proof of previous insurance through your parents policy to your insurance to get the rates lowered some.

need to about cars!?

hey i wanted to learn about the different parts of a car's engine. does anyone know where i can learn? websites, magazines, games, etc. thanks!

Answer
Websites: Wikipedia and Howstuffworks.com
Jalopnik and Autoblog can be educational, as well. Winding Road is good, but is more about news and reviews than random bits of information. Somethingawful.com's automotive forum, and some model-specific forums. (Most general automotive forums are worthless, though.)

Magazines: Racing-oriented magazines. Hot Rod, Grass Roots Motorsports, Sport Compact Car, the various Mustang, Mopar, and Chevy mags.

Games: Nothing really good. Gran Turismo is as close as you'll get really.

Etc: Buy a car that needs a lot of work. A Datsun Z, an old muscle car, an old VW, a DSM. Something like that. It will FORCE you to learn.

Mercury is owned by Ford and Lincoln. Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury are all American made cars. Ford is a normal, family or truck company, Merucury makes classier cars, Lincoln makes even classier cars than Mercury. Mercury and Lincoln both coppy cars made by ford and make them more luxurious. What exactly is a Tax Disk holder in the UK?

Q. In the US we just have stickers for Registration and Emissions.
Please explain how these Tax Disk holders work and how they display the info

Answer
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is a British excise duty, which has to be paid to acquire a vehicle licence for most types of motor vehicle. A vehicle licence is usually required if a vehicle is to be legally used on the public roads. The tax, rarely if ever known by its formal title, and most commonly known as the road tax, is not hypothecated for spending on roads, the entire proceeds contributing to central government revenues. Before 1936, and still used to this day in informal everyday use, the licence was known as the road fund licence, and the proceeds went into the Government's road fund, and used entirely for road expenditure. The tax is collected and enforced by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Proof of payment comes in the form of a paper disk that must be clearly displayed on the vehicle, and gives rise to the third interchangeable common term used for the tax, tax disc.

Any vehicle used or kept on the public road is liable. Vehicle owners paying the tax are issued with a non-transferable vehicle licence ("tax disc") to be displayed on the vehicle. Since 1998, owners of registered vehicles not using the public roads have been required to submit an annual Statutory Off-Road Notification (SORN).[1] Failure to submit a SORN is punishable in the same manner as failure to pay duty and display a tax disc when using the vehicle on public roads.

In March 2005, graduated vehicle excise duty (GRAD VED) was introduced as an incentive to purchase vehicles with low emission levels:

* Cars registered before March 1, 2001 are charged according to engine capacity. In the 2008 â 2009 tax year this was £120 for cars with a capacity under 1550cc and £185 for those of 1550cc and above.
* Cars registered on or after March 1, 2001 are charged according to their level of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission. For the tax year 2008 â 2009 this was up to £400, with the least polluting vehicles paying no excise duty at all.
* The highest rates of Vehicle Excise Duty ("Band G") only apply to vehicles manufactured after 23 March 2006 - the maximum VED for vehicles manufactured before that date is £205 for petrol and diesel powered vehicles.

Rates for all other vehicles vary from £15 for motorcycles with an engine capacity under 150cc, up to a maximum of £1,850 for the largest heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). (Special rates apply to HGVs not used commercially.) A few special-purpose vehicles such as ambulances are exempt.

In tax year 2002 â 2003, it is estimated that evasion of the tax equated to a loss to the Exchequer of £206 million. In an attempt to reduce this, from 2004 an automatic £80 penalty (halved if paid within 28 days) is issued by the DVLA computer for failure to pay the tax within one month of the expiry of the previous tax disc. A maximum fine of £1,000 applies for failure to pay the tax, though in practice fines are normally much lower.

The police have also been granted devolved powers to tow or clamp any vehicles a police officer or PCSO sees, that is unlicensed on a public road.

Also note that vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973 are eligible for a free vehicle licence under the "Historic Vehicles" legislation. This is due to the age of the vehicle and a presumption of limited mileage. Initially this was a rolling exemption applied to any vehicles over 25 years old, however the cutoff date was frozen in 1997. The change to "pre-1973" was unpopular in the classic motoring press, and a number of classic car clubs are campaigning for a change back to the previous system.

how can i find out who had the lien sale on a car i bought?

crowtruebt

its used car

Answer
If there's still a lien on the car, it will show on the registration and the title. And the title will be in the possession of the lender.
If the liens been paid, then two things could have happened. 1 A new title was issued without the lien holders name on the title. or 2. No one told the DMV that it was paid off, so title has lenders name on it still, but it's been stamped, notarized and signed off on the title. The registration continues to look the same with the lenders name on it.
In California: DMV will have the history of the title in their data bank, but it's very hard to get. It's kept in Sacramento in Micro Fische Film version. So they have like a photo of past titles. But good luck getting them to cooperate. See if the AAA Auto Club can make a phone call to the DMV head office in the state you're in to see if you can obtain that history. If you are a AAA member.

If you just want to check that there is NO lien on it, then the DMV or AAA can give you that info. They need the plate or VIN # to look it up

Advice about car hunting?

soldier 1s

Hello I'm looking for (preferably used) cars that are 11,000 or less and I want to know what I should get. I'm 17 in a few days and I got my license a week ago.

My requirements: A/C, taken care of well, decent look, at least 21 mpg, 2-door with four passenger seating, not salvaged, and automatic.

I'm looking at Toyota Celica and I'm fairly impressed with the design and price.

Any advice? Any info about the Toyota Celica series I should know about?

Answer
Well, for a budget of $11,000, in my opinion, you could do much better than a Front wheel drive, 4 cylinder Toyota. I will give you the list of cars around your price range later but on with the Toyota Celica. Just looking at your budget, I am guessing the Toyota Celica is from the years 2000-2004, in which case, this car was fairly nice looking and easily modifiable, but since the introduction of the Front Wheel drive to the Toyota Celica in 1986, the car has really gone downhill. The only nice one would be the Toyota GT-S which slightly better engine designed by Yamaha and the distinct exterior add ons made it uniquely a GT-S. The GT-S also had an interesting valve timing, around 6,200 rpm, you would get immediate boost or hp. But however, the Celica was cancelled for a reason, dwindling sales and lack of consumer interest and competition, is reason enough why not to buy this car. The interior was ok and the seats had a racing-like design but besides that, the interior was pretty terrible in design. Also premium fuel for a Toyota, that is ridiculous and there was one recall. I could go on and on about what is wrong with this car and what is wrong with Toyota as a brand such as the lawsuit against them for Patent Infringement of Hybrid Technology or the Lawsuit against their cars causing roll overs and the occupants dying. I really would recommend you look into the 1990-1996 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo or a 2003-2007 Nissan 350z. Here is a list of cars that might spark an interest:

What age should someone start to look for their first car? Also, which is the best kind of car to start out with?: New or Used. Is there any tips someone should know about purchasing their first car? Please let me know ASAP! If you have any suggestions on any brands or specific kinds of cars, please feel free to tell! Thanks!

Answer
you would need to find a used car, get a car before college or if you go to college, make sure the dealer doesn't rip you off. go to a dealership looking for a car, if you like one, make sure he/she doesn't know you are interested. later, go home and research the car on Kbb.com and look for the correct price range. the website would tell you. then go back to the deanship and haggle with him/her try to buy it at the lowest price possible. most car salesmen dress nice but most of them are low lives. also, pick a well know car and car companies like Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Honda, Toyota, etc. stay away from saab, volvo, saturn, etc. volvos have many electrical problems, saabs are known to break down after 2 years, and saturn is not as great with their parts. try to stay away from the old cars that used to be expensive. parts could be hard to find and expensive to replace.
if you are looking for a sporty car, oh well, the insurance would cost a lot of money. try to get a sedan (4-door), try not to pick a car that goes 130+. also, a SUV would be a good choice too. all of these would lower the cost of insurance for young drivers. the insurance should get lower when you get older (25+). for guys it would cost almost double than for girls with car insurance. if you can't afford insurance, you could always put the car under one of your parents insurances. Good luck searching for first car,

Would you like to change the name of the Dodge Charger to 'Cuda?

Dan

The Barracuda was developed 1st by Plymouth in '65-'66 and was successful in it's own right. the Challenger is a clone like the Pontiac Firebird. The word Challenger itwself says it is not a Champion, but it has the Dodge Truck emblem backing it up, Dodge could have been scrapped as easily as the Plymouth except for the truck sales.
First, we need a 'Cuda trim model, then expand that to the entire line like Chevy did to the Chevelle> Malibu then drop the Challenger/Chevelle name. I think "Cuda, everytime I see a Challenger. Anyone else?

Answer
errrrr you might want to pick up a magazine or watch car/dodge related news...

The plan is to stop the Challenger for Model year 2014. The 2 door muscle car from Fiat/Chrysler/Dodge for 2014 will be a Barracuda in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Valiant fish. The car will use the frame of the Challenger/300 but will have a re-worked body. Long term plans have suggested the two names will alternate periodically.

Here is what it might look like: http://dautos.net/2014-dodge-barracuda-concept/

waterfall

Hello,

my husband got preliminary job offer for Malaysia. Still he did not get salary offer. What is good salary in Malaysia. We have loan and we have to pay 1000 euros per month for our flat in Egypt, so i am interested, what salary would allow us to have nice and modest life in Malaysia and also to save that money for flat.

Pls, help me, cz he have to answer fast..

cheers

Answer
The same salary he is getting now, plus accomodation, car, expetriate allowance of 100 Euro a day including weekend.

For your info our fresh university graduate only make Euro400 to 500 a month.

Your husband need to be a high end professional in order to qualify that, our salary is approx 5 times lesser than those in the European Union

can someone arrange for me atour trip to malaysia for 10 day?

Answer
Not knowing your interests it's hard to suggest. However I must say I would skip most of the commercial package tours! Malaysia has a good transportation system.

KL is your normal large city. For high end shopping I would suggest KLCC and Times Square, for bargain shopping B & B. Local craft items can be picked up at Central Market. If you like knock-offs (China town is only a couple of blocks away). Heck even if you don't buy fake stuff, just walking China town is fun.

Mid Valley Mall and Sunway to me were just run of the mill malls. If you have seen one mall you have seen them all.

If you like history the National Museum is wonderful.
The bird park, which is located near the orchard garden is a great place to spend a few hours.
The butterfly park is nice, but the one near Melaka is much better.

Must see things in the KL area are the towers & the Batu Caves!!! Don't worry about the stairs at the cave, if it's too much for you there is an art cave at ground level. Not the same as the one at the top, but still very enjoyable.

If you like elephants, the sanctuary is about an hours drive north of the city and it's FREE (only a jar put any donation you would like to give). Here you can watch the elephants play freely in their playground. Afterwards you can hand feed them, and even ride one into the river if you want. Best time to arrive is noon, plan to be there 4 hours.

A two hour ride (car, taxi or bus) south of KL is Melaka this is a must see town. You might call it the historical town of Malaysia. Here you can see, taste and feel Malaysia's rich history.

Gentling Highlands is nice and if you like to gamble has the only casino in the country.
Cameron Highlands is where many of the locals go for vacation. Much cooler temps than most of the country.

As for the east side of the country, I haven't made it there yet. However have heard some good things about Malaysia Airlines packages. Remember the east side can be a bit more rural than the mainland.

For a lot more info I would suggest Virtual Tourist
http://forum.virtualtourist.com/forum-1714-1-Travel-Malaysia-1-forum.html

If you look at the top of the page you will see different choices. The forum is GREAT! "Things to do" will give you great insight, "Top 5 pages" are full of great info.
