Answer
Yes, the Chevy Volt is a great car. But its also a political football, so don't expect to hear any honest unbiased opinions.
*
In general, the Volt's detractors are people who have never sat in one, and would cringe at the very idea that they should test drive a Volt. Actual drivers of the car, that is, automotive reporters who are allowed to use one for a while, or consumers who purchase or lease a Volt, are overwhelmingly very positive.
*
Nowhere is this more clear than in Consumer Reports Magazine's buyer satisfaction survey. Volt took first place in this CR survey, beating every other car model from every other manufacturer. See story:

A large portion of the negative talking points swirling around - that Obama is behind it, that the car bursts into flames, that its not selling well, that it takes 20 years to recoup its investment, and that there's huge amounts of government money in it - are all completely false. I'll debunk some of these in sources below.

OK which car, the 2012 Malibu or the 2012 Avenger?

JetMech

Having trouble deciding which one to buy. I've seen earlier models of the Avenger rated as low as 19 out of 19 cars reviewed. Why is that? Is it really as bad as the reviewers say? It seems like you're getting a lot of car for the money. Is it worth $5,000 more to buy the Malibu?
Comparably equipped they ARE $5,000 apart. I did the "build your own car" thing on each web site and came up with a price $5,000 difference including rebates. But the rebates were only $500 more with Dodge. Yes, Malibus are that much higher. Are they worth it?

To Andy L, as far as pricing goes, looking at sites like Edmunds and such, there only seems to be a difference of about $1,000 dollars between MSRP and what people are actually paying for cars these days. Is that true or are all these sites like Edmunds and Kelly BlueBook in cahoots with the dealers now? Let me ask, how does a car shopper calculate a fair offer? Are the Fair Market Values shown on these web sites accurate?

Answer
US News is a good overall source to start with.
Malibu is rated #5 in its class and Avenger is rated #19 is right.
The cars to compare in what you are looking for are the Malibu, Avenger, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata
Comparably equipped, they are not $5000 apart
Combined MPG, Avenger 24, Fusion 25, Malibu 26, Sonata 28
http://autos.yahoo.com/car-compare/overview/;_ylt=AvsqGk1Qut95WFA2dKle6Rru_a1_;_ylv=3?trimId0=31485&trimId1=32114&trimId3=31822&make=ford&model=ford_fusion&year=7249&trimId2=31363
Horsepower
Malibu 1LS 169 @ 6400 adjust to 160 @ 6000
Avenger SE 173 @ 6000
Fusion SE 175 @ 6000
Sonata GLS 198 @ 6300 adjust to 190@6000
Sonata is a 60/100 miles warranty. Fusion power train is only 60K, balance are 36/60 miles
There are feature differences among them
In reliability, the Avenger is the worst, and that is significant.
I always like higher power and higher mpg at the same time in a car.
Prices are negotiable at dealers.

How did the car get its name?

silvercome

Is it short for "carriage"? Or, "cart"? Or, something entirely different?

Answer
You answered your own question....which at Level 6 you should know better. You should know that it's against the TOS to answer your own question.

http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php

Car is short for Carriage. <-----<<<EDIT: BOY! Was I __WRONG__ there!!! :(

Wiki says this:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/car#Etymology

I found this, also:

>>>96/09/09 (Monday) Vehicles (5388)

A number of short words now commonly used to denote ordinary vehicles are actually shortened forms of longer words. "Plane", of course, is simply a shortened form of "airplane" and "bus" is a shortened form of "omnibus". "Van" is derived from "caravan" and "cab" comes from "cabriolet", which is a new word for me. According to the dictionary, it is "a two-wheeled, one-horse carriage with two seats and a folding top". "Taxi" is a shortened form of "taxicab", an automobile that carries passengers for a fare, usually calculated by a taximeter. And what do you suppose is the origin of the word "car". No, it does not come from "carriage" but from a Latin word for "chariot", which was a horse drawn, two-wheeled cart, used in ancient times for war, racing or parades.<<<..........

....Which is from:

http://cgi.biwa.ne.jp/~syobo/cgi-bin/open.cgi?numbers=5388

And this:

>>>car
1301, "wheeled vehicle," from Norm.-Fr. carre, from L. carrum, carrus (pl. carra), orig. "two-wheeled Celtic war chariot," from Gaul. karros, from PIE *krsos, from base *kers- "to run." Extension to "automobile" is 1896. Car-sick first recorded 1908, on model of sea sick. U.S. carport is from 1939. Car bomb first 1972, in reference to Northern Ireland. Car pool is 1942 (n.), 1962 (v.). <<<.......

......From: http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?l=c&p=3

According to THIS site:.....

http://www.millville.org/Workshops_f/kess_mech/Kess_Auto/FuInject/carsection1.html

.....there are MANY origins of the word "Car".

can someone tell me info about electricity powered cars or engines?

Carlos

i just need a paragraph about the important facts and info about the electricity powered cars or engines

thanks

Answer
Well, as an investment, it's a good thing. Because the power you spend is much cheaper then petrol. Also, electrical engines are far more efficient then petrol because there is minimum energy loss then petrol engines, or any engines that run on fossil fuels for that matter. It's ecological, you don't have any CO2 emissions. However, there is a big con on these types of cars. For an example, since these engines are electrical, they need electricity to power them, and a lot of energy is required for that. You need to store that energy somewhere. That is, you need a large battery with enough Ah capacity to hold the el. energy as much as it can. Whats the con?
First, all battery's have a number of charge cycles. For example, a typical Li-Polymer battery has 1000 charge cycles, which means when you (in total) discharge and recharge the battery for 1000 times, the battery losses it's capacity. And then you need to buy a new one. The ones you use for el. cars, are pretty expensive. Price range is from 1000$ to 10000$, depending on the capacity of course. And since you, I suppose, drive a lot, the battery will run for a few years and then dry out. And since you need a new one, it "seems" that it's even cheaper to run on petrol. This of course depends a lot, but I think it's better to buy a hybrid then completely convert the engine to electrical. And you also need "gas" stations where you would have fast chargers so you can "fill up" your battery. The whole electrical cars concept is still new and it's developing really slow.

Nevertheless, if you own 2 cars, I would definitely convert one of them to electrical. Use one for city drives, and the other for long distance drives. You could save a lot of money by this method.

car engine?

sherman213

could i put a V6 engine in a hundyai elantra that has a 2.0L engine in it now or would everything have to be change everything? If yu need more info to figure out what i have to do email me at sherman2131@yahoo.com.?

Answer
It probably won't fit without extensive modifications to th engine bay, front wheel drive cars are much more difficult when it comes to engine swaps of different size if the new engine isn't native to a trim level of the car

What is the good reason to believe that thousands of civilians have been killed in the past three months?

The Real S

http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=289601&version=1&template_id=44&parent_id=24
We are not inclined to believe the LTTE generated reports and the soft pedal on behaviours of the LTTE that has numerous documented reports from civilian interviews with NGO teams that states that the LTTE was not generically âprevented people from leaving the conflict zoneâ but beating them with heavy chains, conducting summary executions, have been filmed shooting heavy artillery at escaping civilians and brutalizing women as part of their recruitment and training practices â though the LTTE does not admit to killing civilians, the armed forces are reporting what numbers are exiting, what numbers have injuries and what numbers are succumbing to mortal injury. Apparently though confirmed numbers have been reported by a different office at the UN it is easier for this body of the UN to selectively manipulate language to create a different image of the validated data. What is known is that in the past month over 150,000 people have exited the conflict zone and there have been 1600 injuries that were severe enough to cause hospitalization. We donât want any civilian injuries but it is very difficult to avoid them when media pressures skate the issue with statements such as this and leave out the most salient FACTS 1) the LTTE is creating heavy mined obstructions to injure people as they choose to leave to government controlled territory and 2) The LTTE is actually using tanks and cannons as well as small and medium arms and cluster bombs on civilian populations. I suppose this report is somehow affiliated with Navi Pillayâs desk. She is not a bona-fide independent observer, for her positions and affiliations historically in this conflict are completely skewed and being a woman who identifies herself as being Tamil â though she lacks the primary qualification which is language â has repeatedly allowed for LTTE misinformation be forwarded through her office. Her recent poster boy Mano Ganeshan was recently linked to a strip mining deal which he is trying to cover up as a human rights violation. The biggest problem with dealing with these people is that they refuse to honor the rights of the very people they pretend to represent. Today, a group of reporters from channel 4 news was asked to leave Sri Lanka one reason being that they attempted to make 1 potential incident sound as if it was numerous incidents without giving any balanced coverage on BBC. I saw a picture of this crew on the web today and was surprised to find that these âreportersâ are actually people that have been filtering about in my presence at several unlikely venues (non-media related) for the past three years. This isnât journalism it is approaching a subject with a foregone conclusion in the name of investigative study or reporting. I wonder why this group is not being sent by Ms. Pillay to Afghanistan or Pakistan where there are over 500,000 people that need immediate assistance instead of to Sri Lanka where we have over 95% of the affected peoples settled in camps. It is very difficult to comply to the demands of people or organizations that are so under the lure of a separate country being carved out of an existing sovereign nation and perhaps want to get a share.
About the Ganeshan matter, I certainly do not hold Condoleeza Rice accountable foe handing him an award, and I am sure that she would also be wondering what kind of vetting process is entered into by selection committees when the end result is that Mr. Ganeshan who has proved links with the LTTE has to this day not asked for those civilians to have free movement to leave conflict areas but he wants access to strip mine in the name of human rights.
I suggest you talk to Dayan as he has met repeatedly with Navi Pillay and she is no stranger to mining conflicts as they purport to be HR issues as she is from South Africa. Just because the sequence of actors has been changed it is no less a violation whether DeBeers or posterboy does it. It is not something to blame on sovereign nations but it gives your supported terrorists that certain sections feel must be "included" the perspective that is due to them. The LTTE will hold civilian captives and expose them to untold brutality whilst their in-government proxies attempt create further conflict in another area for financial gains. The Tamil Diaspora is beoming world famous not just for supporting terrorism but credit card fraud, drug smuggling, welfare fraud, contract murders, human trafficking, illegal medical experimentation, insurance fraud, prostitution, arms running. There are many fine people in the Tamil community just as in each and every community,LTTE supporters not included

In your country, what kind of matter is reported in Facebook?

Noriko

I am a Japanese.
Japanese often upload something to Facebook. But the contents is very boring. 90% of them is photos of lunch or dinner, his/her babyâs photos. Remaining 10% is reports such as on a beach with their lover. Thatâs it.

Iâm bloody fed up with those photos and reports!
Iâm not interested in them at all, if not dislike.
But I must âlikeâ them not to be disliked.
Many of Japanese feel like me.
Japanese disposition, very strong homogenous, makes this foolish situation, I think.

I wish I could shatter all facebook-installed computers and cellphones in Japan!

Then, how is your countryâs situation about Facebook?
Is it much more joyful than Japanâs mentioned above?

Ryan Dunn's confusing death?

bambam_051

Ryan Dunn's death and the details surrounding it have been so confusing to me. Some people are saying it is a hoax, some people are saying it is real. I honestly don't know what to believe because some stuff is weird.
1. When he crashed, how did the police identify him so fast? Wouldn't they need a picture of what he looked like to compare the facial hair and tattoos to the body?
2. How did they even identify him through his facial hair or tattoos? If the fire was hot enough to burn the metal of the car, how did his facial hair not burn? The hair would be the first thing to go in a fire. And his body would be so charred they would barely be able to see the tattoos. They would have to use dental records to identify him and that would have taken longer than the hour or two they identified him.
3. Why was the first person they called April Margera? Wouldn't they call Ryan's parents, then his girlfriend? And why would April Margera then immediately call TMZ and tell them that Ryan died in a car accident?
4. The car crash scene is weird too. In the left hand lane there are 4 tire marks, and those tire marks stop where Dunn's car supposedly crashed into the trees. Why would a car stop if they saw what happened, and not call the police? The tire tracks from Dunn's car look like they went straight into the guard rail with no sign of trying to turn at all. Like they wanted the car to go straight into the guard rail. Also, why would people be allowed to go into the crash site and take parts of the car? All parts of the car would be considered evidence, yet people are selling parts of the car on ebay.
5. When Bam got home, why did he go straight to the crash site and do immediate interviews? I know that if my best friend just died, the last thing I would want to do would go to the crash site and do an interview. The interview seemed insincere as well, because he did not shed a single tear.
6. A report is saying April played a major part in the gag, and I can believe that. Some people said that April hates they jokes, but in Jackass 3 and 3.5, she plays a part in most of the pranks. At one point in Jackass 3 or 3.5, when they glue Preston and Wee Man together, Bam asks "How are we going to pull them apart?" and you can clearly hear April saying, "Slide them across the table".
7. People are saying that the police and reporters wouldn't play along with that, but they have played along with all the Jackass starts pranks. In order to do their pranks, they have to tell the police. In Viva La Bam, payed a news reporter to go to April's work and tell her her house got blown up.
8. The news report on that was allegedly put up by Fox News looks pretty real to me. The article came out only an hour after news of his death was reported. I don't know how anyone could photoshop an article to look real like that. They even linked TMZ in the article.
9. In Bam's interview with E! news, they ask him what his last conversation with Dunn was. He then pulls out his cell phone and reads off his messages. Dunn is asking Bam if the "gate is unlocked" so he cam come over. The reporter asks him "When was this" and Bam says "Whenever the run was, Sunday". I thought Bam said he was in Arizona Sunday/Monday? Why would Dunn be asking to come over Sunday night is Bam is supposedly in Arizona?
10. Also, Dunn's BAC was allegedly .196. TMZ reported that his toxicology report would not be in until "4-6 weeks", yet the next day they said his BAC was .196. How could they find that out so fast? Also, they said he was going 130-140 mph. How would they be able to figure that out as well?
11. Also, why would Dunn post a picture of him pointing to a beer only hours before he crashed? There are reports that also say he stopped at a gas station to get food. Why would he drive safe all the whole time driving home, then gun it at the exit that was "30 seconds" from Zach Hartwell's home?
12. Also, how did they identify Zach Hartwell? Where are the proven records that they positively identified that Ryan Dunn and Zach Hartwell? They would need to identify both of them through dental records, but they haven't.
I'm not trying to be an asshole disrespectful so please don't be judgmental, I am just honestly confused at the details surrounding his death. And for those of you that say they wouldn't do something like this, this is the Jackass crew we are talking about.

Answer
You make some points that are good and some that make no sense, why he would go to the crash site? I would say for some closure. I had a friend killed in a wreck and I went to his crash site just days after also. Far as the marks going into the rail it looks like it control was lost and it went sideways. As far as trying to stir away, their is no way you would even have time to react at those speeds to steer away and if you didn it wouldn't make a difference, figure the night time no lights through that road and doing 130-140 and the car getting lose if he was trying to make the turn or dodge something. You mentioned why would he gun it 30 seconds from his house plenty of reasons when you got a car with speed you like to show it off, most people do anyways it was a nice straight stretch very long perfect place to show what the car has

as for the tats and such it was never said where he was burnt exactly face or what and seeing how he had tats on his arms chest and legs and the fact he had been previously arrested, they note any tats you have on your body, I'm sure not everybody in PA owns a porsche and they found the car door identified the car, then figuring out the 1 to 2 maybe 3 owners then checking the tats that was on the body that was possibly visible they prob just added 2 and 2 together, it was never said that he was still in the car or anything

I could see them doing the prank but I don't think they would invest the time it would take to do it all knowing they would prob get caught...tree limbs was broke..so they'd have to break limbs, cut big chunks of bark off the tree that you can see missing in videos of the crash site, f the guardrail up and the place where the car was suppose to burnt is right at a tree and all the way up the tree is black, so they'd have to do all this at night which would require lights in order to see not mention traffic going by and probably getting spotted and word being out by now about it...

Chevy Volt complainers - explain please...?

apeweek

If the Chevy Volt is indeed a dangerous, flammable car, why does the insurance industry rate it a "Top Safety Pick"?

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/tsp_archive.html

Why does the NHTSA, which discovered the 3-week delayed fire in a crashed Volt, say on their Volt page that the car has NOT been recalled? (They also rate it a perfect 5-stars for safety.)

http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Shoppers/5-Star+Safety+Ratings/2011-Newer+Vehicles/Vehicle-Detail?vehicleId=232

Why does this page of recalled Chevy models - on a website that keeps track of recalled cars - not mention the Volt anywhere?

http://www.autorecalls.org/2011/CHEVROLET.shtml

Why, in this real world collision between a Volt and a Camry, is it the Camry that bursts into flame, and not the Volt?

http://www.hybridcars.com/news/chevy-volt-virtually-demolished-did-not-catch-fire-46583.html

Could some in the media have given us some false ideas about this car? What else that we've been told about the Volt might also be false?
Thanks everyone for the answers. However, I'm seeing almost nobody trying to answer the actual questions - why have we been told Volt is dangerous when the evidence points the other way?

Anybody care to really answer this?

i am doing a project on mining and it needs to be handed in tomorrow and i have no info and google doesn`t have any to help me,please Its urgent ,if you can give me links to look up it would help a lot
I need all of the info on mining .and what it is

Answer
What kind of info do you need. I am a coal miners daughter raised and acknowledging in this area.

These coal mines were established 100 years ago in the Crows Nest Pass and have been cruel to the men who chose to make a living in them. Miners went into the tunnels every day with the uncertainty of seeing the light of day at the end of their shift. Working in the mines was quite dangerous with men losing their lives in almost every year for the first half of the century. As you can see from the list, the majority of the fatalities occurred in the years up to 1970. This was about the time that the underground operations were starting to be phased out.
The worst coal mining disaster in Canada occurred on the Alberta side of the Crows Nest Pass at the Hillcrest Collieries, where, on Junes 19,1914 an explosion took the lives of 189 men. They are buried in a mass grave in the Hillcrest Cemetary. There were many causes of injury and death in the mines. Among them were: the ignition of coal gas (methane) which killed by explosive force and/or poisonous gases; roof falls (cave-ins); runaway coal cars (known as trips); bumps (when underground geological forces cause the roof and floor of the tunnel to squeeze together); and the hazards of working with dangerous machinery. In the early years of mining the men went into the tunnels with only a small, weak open flame as their light source. It was possible to only see a few feet in front of them. Along with the dangers of poor visibility, the open flame could ignite the deadly methane gas at any moment. The life of the miner was lived perilously close to the edge. Below is in Remembrance of all the men who died in the coal mines of the Michel-Natal, Sparwood & Elkford area.
These 12 men were all killed in series of explosions which occurred shortly after the start of night shift on August 8, 1916. At the time there was a bad lightening storm taking place. It is thought that the lightening struck near the portal and travelled into the mine either on the signal wire (bells used to communicate in the mine), the cable used to pull coal cars, or along the track itself. The main entry way was constructed of 18 to 24 inch diameter timbers which were smashed and strewn all about in front of the portal. When the mine rescue team went into the mine the gases were still quite toxic and they used safety lamps and they took canaries with them to detect the deadly gases. They also found a horse dead in the tunnel and they used this to try and find Daniel Hall the hoistman who would have been driving the horse. Thomas Phillips was the fireboss, Peter Hrbka the timberman, Sam Dmytriv the rope rider, Mike Marmol the bratticeman, and the rest were all miners and labourers.

Antanas "Tony" Cepeliauskas, Antonio Colosimo, August Wojtula, Delfie Quarin, Eric Lutzke, Eugene Lucky, Guy Venzi, Hugh Hopley, John Brenner, Michael Bryan, Ronald Frenz, Samuel Tolley, Wladuslaw "Walter" Gibalski, Walter Parker, William Cytko, Willie DeLorme
All of these men except for Antonio Colosimo, were killed in the Balmer North Mine Explosion.

This page is also to commemorate men like my father, who went to work every day and returned home again, leaving part of their souls in the mine. As the daughter of a coal miner, I know the fear that families lived with daily as the men left home for work. We could never feel sure of their returning home again. The list of men who did not return shows the fear was well founded. I remember many early morning calls coming in 1, 2 in the morning and my momma crying. I was little at the time, and was really scared to ask what happen. I did not want to hear that something happen to my daddy. It was always scary, and I always learned and was commited to making sure every night before he closed the door behind him. That I told him that I loved him, and I huged him and said daddy you be careful. Because I never knew if I was going to see him again when morning came.

The men knew that at any moment their life might be in the hands of their fellow miners. Men have been trapped for hours or days with the knowledge that their only hope was that the men they worked with would dig them out. This required that they have a great deal of trust for each other.

Although all the miners worked hard in dangerous conditions, they had some fun too. After work, they would often talk of the pranks that they played on each in the mine. They developed a camaraderie that is hard to describe, and most of them would not have wanted to work at anything else. Like my mother baking choc.fudge for the men, and my dad knowing what was in that fudge. Yeah, stuff to make you have the pooops lol..Dad would kill his self laughing telling us the next morning about them men eating that fudge then going miles into the mine and crap on themselves. Funny stuff..

need info on these cars....?

how good are the 2005 +
~Ford Mustang Selby GTs
~Ford Mustang GTs
on mountain roads, in rain and snow??
also, can mustangs come in 4X4 or are they just 2X4?

Answer
Shelbty is the most powerful factory-built Mustang ever, the Shelby GT500, designed by the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in collaboration with legendary performance guru Carroll Shelby. Under the hood is a supercharged and intercooled, 32-valve 5.4L V-8 kicking out 500 horsepower.Forty years after the first Shelby GT500 was produced, performance legend Carroll Shelby and the Ford Mustang have been powerfully reunited with the introduction of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 â the most powerful factory Mustang ever. The result of an alliance between Shelby and the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT), the GT500 returns to the streets as a thoroughly modern successor to the famous Shelby GT500 of the late 1960s.

Featuring a 500-horsepower supercharged 5.4-liter 32-valve V-8 with a 6-speed manual transmission, race-tuned suspension and four-piston Brembo brakes, the new GT500 packs a heavy dose of pure American muscle to back up its aggressive looks. Its unique front-end design, bulging hood with heat extractors, rear spoiler, and unmistakable Le Mans racing stripes tells the world this is not your typical Mustang. To mark the melding of Mustang performance icons, the GT500 also features Shelby, Cobra and SVT badging.

Like the original, the GT500 will be available both as a coupe and as a convertible when it goes on sale in the summer of 2006 â both versions delivering the kind of broad torque curve that had won the big-block Shelby acclaim as king of the road.  Inside, the locations of the speedometer and the tachometer are swapped to provide performance-oriented drivers with a better view of shift points while changing gears. And front seats have received additional lateral support to help keep the driver optimally positioned during cornering. In a touch also borrowed from the GT500âs past, cornering. In a touch also borrowed from the GT500âs past, no Le Mans stripes will be seen on the 2007 GT500 convertible. However, the Shelby droptop will sport a cloth top similar to those found on pricier convertibles.

Shelby first put his name on a Mustang back in 1964 when he was asked to inject some high performance into Ford's brand-new pony car. The result was the GT350R, a lightweight, handling-focused race car that earned Mustang its first track performance credentials. Subsequent Ford Shelby Mustangs included a street version of the race car, the GT350, and what was known as the ârent-a-racerâ Mustang, the GT350H, a joint project with the Hertz rental car corporation.

The ultimate Ford Shelby Mustang of the era was the GT500 and GT500 KR, or âKing of the Road.â Powered by a big block 428-cubic-inch âCobra Jetâ V-8, the GT500 was one of the most powerful and memorable muscle cars of that period. Ford Shelby Mustangs were sold from 1965 through 1970, with a total production run of 14,559 units.

The Ford Special Vehicle Team brought high performance back to Mustang in 1993. After 12 years in the market, with nearly 80,000 high-performance SVT Mustang Cobras on the streets and total SVT vehicle production nearing 145,000, SVT is primed for growth with the GT500 serving as the foundation for other performance Mustang projects. The 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 will be built at the Ford-Mazda joint venture plant, AutoAlliance International, in Flat Rock, Mich.

With the look and legend one would expect from Shelby and the kind of power and performance enthusiasts have come to expect from SVT, the GT500 points to a brand-new era in Fordâs performance future. From the Ford GT supercar, to the Shelby GT500 and performance packs available directly from  the Ford Racing Performance Parts program, performance and racing are poised to drive innovation and continue to add luster to Fordâs proud brand heritage.

What would happen if you get pulled over but cant provide proof of registration?

zeek

This question is pertaining to virginia and mayland state laws.. but any info would be nice. My car is registered and up to date. My license is up to date and I have a very good driving record. I got pulled over last month and had everything the cop needed (license, registration, insurance...) but now I can't find my registration.. even though my car IS registered..

If I get pulled over.. what would happen if I told the cop the truth about somehow misplacing my registration?

Answer
According to the "Letter of the Law", you would be subject to arrest. However, in real life, typically, if you (and the officer) are BOTH in a good mood, you will get a ticket for not having your registration in the vehicle. They can run your plates via radio/computer, so they will verify that your registration is current, and (most likely) NOT impound your car. But it IS like a fix-it ticket, you go get the registration form, take it in, and get the ticket signed off...

Transfer of title with international car shipment?

CuriousUse

I am going to purchase a car from a private party in the U.S. and ship it overseas to my relative. As far as I understand from conversations with some freight forwarders I do not need to register the vehicle here in the U.S. The question I have is what info should be put in the original title (the one I receive from the original seller). Do I need to put myself as a buyer AND the relative abroad as co-buyer?

What is the normal practice which would allow me to clear the car 1) with the US customs 2) with the destination country's customs which will be done by my relative.

Thanks!

Answer
Assuming you know the risks of purchasing anything sight-unseen from an seller you have not met, your second question is the more relevant one, plus the unasked question of registration in the foreign country.
Registration of a vehicle often requires meeting their standards. Fuel type, fuel efficiency, pollution, safety gear and so on are all factors that, depending on the importing country, could prevent the car from ever being driven there. You need to check into that aspect first, to make sure that the vehicle you're purchasing can be used overseas.
Import duties are often quite high on vehicles and not necessarily tied to the declared shipment value on the bill of lading. Some customs inspectors use the manufacturer and vehicle weight to determine duties or taxes on arrival. Most customs operations are by class of item, not manufacturer model, and value. You should also investigate at the destination what the duties and taxes will be on arrival.
Paperwork for shipments is fairly simple since you are the purchaser and you are delivering to a third party directly from the seller via a transfer agent. The question will arise, however, of what the declared value actually is, since the recipient is not paying. For example, you pay $5000 for the car and the delivery paperwork shows a declared value of $100 for customs purposes -- what is the true value to be taxed on import?
Moreover, the insured value of the shipment might be used to gauge whether you are making a gift to the recipient but the taxes are still to be assessed at market value.
Clearing US Customs is very straightforward, unless some option in the vehicle requires ECCN clearance, which is doubtful, but I have heard that some specialty items do exist.
So, you can just ask your transfer agent to take care of the export side paperwork after you have figured out the destination issues.
As to title, your own name works during shipment and once in country you can transfer title to someone else. It may require the transfer to be notarized at the consulate of the country of destination.

Who is known as 'Baron of India' in Cricket?

Baishali M

Answer
Mark Mascarenhas - this is an update:

NEW DELHI, India -- Mark Mascarenhas, a cricket television baron who secured India's Sachin Tendulkar the highest salary ever paid to a cricket player, died Sunday in a road accident, news reports said.

Mascarenhas' car rammed head-on into another car and overturned when he was returning from the famous Velankanni Church near Nagpur in western Maharashtra state, Press Trust of India reported. He died of head injuries, the news agency quoted family sources as saying.

Tendulkar wasn't involved in the accident. He is in the north Indian city of Kanpur for Monday's fourth one-day international against England.

Mascarenhas headed the Connecticut-based sports management company WorldTel, which displayed Tendulkar's place as cricket's best selling brand after signing a multimillion dollar deal with him last year and making him the best paid cricket player ever.

In Kanpur, Tendulkar said it was a shattering news and a personal loss to him.

"Though he was my agent, our relations were of friends. This is an irreparable loss," he said.

I just bought a car and it broke down?

Troy S

well i just bought a car yesterday and on my way home it overheated turns out that there was no water or coolant in the radiator and i waited 5 hours for this guy to come help me out and he never showed up so i had to get the car towed home costing $100 and when i was over looking the title to see if i could get my money back the name on the title wasnt his so i called the police and they said the car wasnt stolen. And when i called the guy back he didnt want to give me his name. is there anything i can do to get my money back?

is there a way that i can sell it without it getting registered and insured??

Answer
In order to purchase a car, it is typical to not only get the title, but a bill of sale. Apparently, this didnt happen since you do not have the guys info. It was up to you to make sure that the person you were dealing with was the owner of the car. It was also up to you to have the car mechanically inspected BEFORE you purchased it.
Your only recourse would be to go down to the dept of motor vehicles and explain the situation and find out what can be done and ownership. As far as it breaking down right after you bought it, you are out of luck.
Sorry.

how do i get a free car history report?

anne

i want to know what the incidences are without paying for them on car facts. is there somewhere else i can find out this info for free?

Answer
not free but basic carfax will go along way

how do I get a FREE carfax for a car that I want to purchase?

Robert

Answer
Other than the information in the vehicle summary,There is no FREE "Full history reports".,,,unless it is supplied by the seller

Even Dealers have to pay for each report that they run,
And carfax will pay dealers a commission if you click on a carfax link from a dealer website and then YOU pay for an account.

However:
There is a lot "data" that you can collect on your own though... without spending a dime.
*******************
Free data source #1
Check the dealers website
If a reputable dealer is signed on (paid subscriptions) to Carfax or Autocheck, the dealers own website can publish the reports to potential buyers. This info is free to the buyers because the sellers have already paid for it.

NOTE!!!
If you click on a link to "view the report" from a dealer site, and it redirects you to a site that AGAIN asks you to PAY for the report, then that particular dealer is NOT a paid subscriber, BUT that dealer MAY receive a referral fee when YOU pay for the report.
___________________

Free data source #2
Ask the private owner/seller to show you the report
Private sellers often purchase a vehicle history report and can show it to potential buyers too. That should be considered the cost of doing business and the seller can absorb the fee.
(^^BEST PRACTICE for reputable sellers)
___________________
Free data source #3
National Insurance Crime Bureau site offers up to 5 free inquiries (VINs)a day. They collect data about vehicles reported as stolen and about vehicles reported as "total loss" (due to flood, fire, accident/collision )or "salvaged" (rebuilt/reconstructed).
_______________
Free data source #4
Carfax
Yes Carfax! At the bottom of the Carfax home page, there are several FREE SERVICES: Lemon Check® | Record Check⢠| Recall Check⢠| Problem Car Check⢠|
The information that will be provided will be very basic and will STILL encourage you to PURCHASE their services.
_______________
Free data source #5
Manufacturer sites.
The original manufacturer of the vehicles often has an "Owner Resource Center" website that can give you a plethora of information ..such as; owners manuals, maintenance requirements, recall information, etc.

For example, Ford has a section where you can enter any Ford VIN and it will tell you if there are any recalls on that vehicle
( http://www.ford.com/owner-services/customer-support/recall-information )
___________________
Free data source #6
Internet Search Engines
You might be surprised at how much information you will find by "googling" a vehicle identification number (VIN). For instance, if you find the SAME vehicle is listed "for sale" at more that one "dealer".... One of them could be a scam site that has "scraped" the other (legitimate) site and is trying to scam buyers.
___________________
Free data source #7
NHTSA-odi
(National Highway Transportation Safety Administration-office of defects investigation)
At this website consumers can look up ; recalls, technical service bulletins, consumer complaints, and defect investigations. There could be inherent problems with particular years/makes/models (vehicles).
___________________
***FINALLY
After researching the free data, you should be able to narrow down your choices of vehicles that you are seriously considering for purchase.
That would be the time for you to actually get out the checkbook and spend some of your money on an actual physical inspection of the vehicles that made it to the "short list".
Before you purchase ANY vehicle, it would be very wise to pay a skilled/trained/certified technician/mechanic to inspect the vehicle in person.

I hope this helps.

car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?

keruptcorr

I keep reading that ECUs are not interchangable but how do I found out which one I need (95 mitsu eclipse 2.0 DOHC) I am having MORE work done to my car, but I am still deciding if it is worth doing for I am already in for $443 for work done w/towing and would rather not shell out another $200 (estimated)

From the little info I have seen there are three choices for my engine but I havent a clue if all three will plug in but have a 33% chance of having it be the correct one. I am trying to become informed on the repairs and want more knowledge before I tell the mechanic to proceed with the repairs. I would hate to find out he replaced the ECU with one that will do the job for a small amount of time.

I am hoping for reassurance that ONLY the correct ECU will fit and start my car. Thanks in advance to any and all the take the time to reply

Answer
It's true ECUs are not interchangeable, but that should not mean you'll have trouble finding it, because there should be only one choice for your car, model and engine. It might depend on which Eclipse you have, i.e. GS, GST, GSX, or RS. I suggest going to www.rockauto.com. Then just select your car, etc..., and under the electrical category, go to the engine control module (computer). They list the choices there, as well as the OEM model #. Look at the number on yours, and the one that matches is the correct one.

On another note... Some details of your story seem to be missing, but it sounds like a typical sheisty mechanic to me... You bring it in, have some work done, and with your car at the mercy of being towed, they tell you you need this and that expensive crap too or your car's gonna blow, etc...

Some important information is missing here though... Like why was the car being brought in for a tune-up? Tune up stuff like plugs, wires, filters, etc... are good to do when needed, but they are not the cause of stranding you, just poor performance/efficiency. I'm assuming that somehow it's been explained to you that the ECU is what stranded you...and yeah that could be, but I'd wonder how that was determined...and if the problem was the ECU, then why was the tune up stuff done?

Another thing...you are trying to figure out which ECU is usable, but you're afraid of the mechanic putting in one which won't last? I don't know if you plan on doing just that part yourself....but either way, if the mechanic doesn't know which ECU to get, then he/she's sure out to lunch, and someone who would never see my car again. If you're thinking of perusing the salvage yards, then again, there should be a model # on the ECU itself, and if that's the same, it's the same unit. But again, you said your main purpose is reassurance that only the correct ECU will fit and start your car... That's true, but it shouldn't be relevant. There is no benefit to trying to find a different-than-original ECU, unless you found a cheap one on ebay or something.

Must I flash a used ECU to put in my car?

froggerz29

I have an 06 Chevy Cobalt with a used engine from another 06 Chevy Cobalt. i got an ECU from a third Cobalt same make and model and engine. Do i have to have it flashed for it to work? or will it run without it being flashed? will there be anything wonky if it does run without being flashed?

Answer
per manual, it needs to be programed. for maint intervals at least.

for info on R&R procedures,
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0996b43f80cb164a#hd1-1-2

couple things though, after it's programmed.
the computer would, on it's own, after a given amount of start/stop cycles, use that info to establish a new base line for best monitoring engine functions.
those first few start/stop cycles, usually need hwy speeds included in that processs. also no aggressive driving during that time as well.

not a chevy guy, but two to three start/stop cycles at most should do it.

Hypotheses testing question?

Q. I have been given the the question do cars from origin B have better fuel consumption than cars from origin A. I have been given the Means (A=13.04, B=7.89) the SD (A=4, B=1.68). It was a Simple random sample of 303 cars (A=239, B=73). I need to find the test statistic and P-value, and show working and evidence for my answer.

Answer
This is a difference in means tests (u1-u2). If the SD is the population sd, then you would use the z test. If it's the same sd, then you would the t test that doesn't use the pooled sd. You can find the respective formula in your book.

You have to be more specific when providing information for your question. When you say mean, doesn't that mean average miles per gallon? meaning 13 would be better fuel consumption than 7? Or does having a lower number mean better fuel consumption?

I'm going to assume it's the former. If it's the latter, just switch everything I say.

Now you want to test if B has better consumption. So you want to see if mean of A < mean of B. (I will write this as ua <ub.

So your hypothesis would be
Ho: ua - ub = 0
H1: ua < ub or ua - ub < 0

I'm assuming the sd's are the sample sd. If so, plug in all the info into the t test formula.
It should be something like [(x1-x2) - (u1-u2)]/sqrt(s1^2/n1 + s2^2/n2)

You have all the info provide. x1=13.04 s1^2=4^16 n1=239 u1-u2=0

You will now have your t score.
Figure out the degrees of freedom. It's either going to be n1+n2 - 2 or some weird long formula. I dont remember which one it was exactly. You should be able to find it in your book.
Now you should know that this is a one tailed (left) test because of the < in the h1.

Go to your t chart and figure out the p value.

If your sd's were population sds, then you would do the same thing, but use the z test and the z chart.

kind of like when you take ur car to the community colleges trade school to get work on.
not sure who to call or where to look for information i tried tryping in hvac unions on the net local and web but i havent found any info

Answer
There are many unions that represent the HVAC/R trade although there are 2 that represent the majority of union HVAC/R shops. They are the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA). I was a proud member of the IUOE Local 1 and am now a Proud member of the Pipefitters Local Union 208. I know that both of these locals are very commited to community service. Without knowing where you are in the country I can't tell you which local to contact but either organization should be easy to look up now that you know the names. Thank you for supporting your local union.

Should I buy this car from Spain? Via ebay? Or is it a scam? (lots of details 10 points best answer)?

Dr. Juicy

Basically there is an 06 Honda Accord going for $2900, sounds too good to be true right? Well he's also in Spain and in the Marines... supposedly. He wants to get it done through Ebay, and I've used Ebay many times before and I trust the website, however I'm not 100% sure. Here goes the conversation through Emails

Hello,
You have to know that the
2006 Honda Accord EX/ Navigation System I am selling is 100% working and great looking, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage. The title is clear. It has 35,340 miles. The VIN# is 1HGCM56886A007861.This vehicle engine runs very, very smooth. No electrical problems on this beauty. This detailed vehicle makes the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line.
As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and inspect it (for 10 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. Anyway i am sure that if you won`t be satisfied with the car i will surely find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back.
I am located in Madrid,Spain and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between our country and Spain. One month ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States because In order to be able to register this car here, I would have to pay very high import/custom taxes. My final price on it is $ 2900. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in about 4 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.

So then I asked for some more info on how exactly he wants it done and he told me this.

" Hi again,
As I said in my first email the car is currently located in Madrid,Spain. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. Shipping will be done door-to-door, to your exact location, so you will not have to pick the car up yourself.
The price for the car is $2,900 USD. This price includes all the shipping taxes and fees. eBay will hold the funds until you receive and accept the car. I will have access to the funds only after you test and inspect the car (you will have 10 days to do that) and in case something goes wrong or the car is not as advertised you will be fully refunded. Anyway i am sure if you will don`t be satisfied about the car i will surely find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back. Ebay will guarantee for that. From the moment the payment is secured by eBay the shipping process will begin and it will arrive at your address in about 3 max. 4 business days. Also the car will arrive with all the documentation's required for registration and the keys. I will send you all the papers and documents (clear title, bills of sale, car's manual) to prove the ownership and to be able to register it with no problem. The clear title and the bill of sale will be both signed so you can become owner of the car on spot. The cargo is insured so if the car is damaged during the shipping you will also be refunded.
Please reply with your full name and address, and I will start the process with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.

Thanks "

So then I asked why it was so cheap and asked where he was stationed and his rank in the military and stuff and this was his response.

" Why I sell so cheap?
Just put yourself in my situation:If I want to register it here it will cost me a hell lot`s of money, nobody here would buy from the same reason;I can`t even sell at for parts, because nobody here has such cars, only European cars,i personally have a seat leon from work.
Plus even if i register it here, the engine is too big here, the gas price here is triple than in the States.
Mail me your intentions. "

So now I'm kind of stuck... it seems way too good to be true which is my gut instinct... but what if I'm just being paranoid?

Does anyone else have some helpful insight?
How will I be scammed?

Okay this was obviously a learning experience for me. I could have been dumb about it and said OH HEY A $20,000 car GOING FOR $3,000 GEE I AM SO LUCKY!!

Answer
SCAM for many reasons

Ebay has NOTHING to do with cars that are not listed exclusively on Ebay. Ebay buyer protection on cars only applies if the car is located within 200 miles of your registered location and you have to pick up the car in person. If the car is not as described, then you can file a dispute with Ebay to get the money back

And NEVER buy a car from Spain for any reason http://www.idealspain.com/pages/information/buycar.asp
"VERY IMPORTANT ADVICE ON PURCHASING SECOND HAND CARS
It is vital that a history check is made on the vehicle before you purchase it. This is the Spanish equivalent to an HPI check in England.
This check is important in Spain because just like property, previous owners debts can be put on the car. This can include unpaid social security, loans and taxes. The debts stay with the car, so it is now the responsibility of the new owner to clear the debts."

Besides, the US military cargo does NOT ship personal vehicles and certainly wouldn't by air for any reason

"You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car." - is 100% BS. Ebay offers NO such service. That's an escrow service

And the same scam has been reported thousands of times already - different car and location, same Nigerian scam

Buying a used car total cost?

ar-571

Im 19 and about to buy a used 2012 car honda accord. the price says $18995 without any of the other add on (tax, fees etc) Im confused on the websites so does anyone have experience in the total cost of buying the car from a dealer.

With sales tax, registration fees and any other add on on the 18995 car? it would help out alot just a rough estimate

Answer
You didn't state where you're located, every state/province is different.

Generally, You need to pay a deposit(around $5000 if your 18, with no credit), then you need to have it emission tested($40), and certified ($130).

Once you have that, you can call your insurance company, pay 2 months insurance up-front($500-800 for first payment), get the sheet via email and go to the DMV.

At the DMV you will be charged for the license plate($30), Taxes(whatever your location normally pays, on 18995), used vehicle info package($20), and your yearly sticker($75). You're good to go then.

So overall, if your taxes are 10%... Not including deposit

1800 tax
130 certify
75 sticker
40 emissions
30 plate

So you're looking at around $2075 at the DMV to register the car in your name.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may just want to get an older car, there are plenty that can be obtained for less than $4000 with low miles.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1998 Lincoln towncar with 55,000 miles on it for $400(four hundred). It ended up costing me another $300 to get it on the road plus I HAVE NO CAR PAYMENTS, \\

It was kind of a fluke but hey, you want to know how i did it? I saw it in a driveway, with dust on it and a flat tire, I asked the house owner if i could buy it.... They said yes, I haggled them down from $900 to $400

My sport sedan gets 35mpg on the highway. Why is Fox News saying that number is only possible in a smart car?

Fox News, both on radio and television today, is framing Obama's plan to increase emissions standards over the next 8 years as "making cars unsafe". The assumption they're operating under is that in order to increase fuel efficiency, auto makers will have to skimp on structural elements and safety features.

I have a sport sedan that gets 35mpg on the highway, while earning a five-star government crash test rating for front, side and rollover tests. It cost less than a reasonably equipped new American car (I bought a 2008 "certified pre-owned"), and outperforms any Ford, Dodge or Chrysler you could buy for less than $40,000 new.

Why is Fox trying to convince its viewers that a 35mpg fuel economy standard is unreasonable, and that my Audi A4 is apparently a "smart car"?
Speaking as someone in the auto industry, and someone with a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, the claim that a higher MPG car will somehow be less safe is nonsense.
To the truck owners:

No doubt, this will be a difficult change. If you drive a car with a V8, you're not going to get 35mpg with today's technology.

However, the idea that "a 35mpg car is an unsafe car" is blatantly false. The first 30 seconds of fact checking will reaffirm this, so I guess Fox either doesn't care about facts, or is choosing to ignore them.
"Its not Fox stating ,this is the car manufacturers here in America. That's who the target of these emissions standards are hitting"

Incorrect. No automaker is saying that "a 35 mpg car is an unsafe car". I already drive one that's perfectly safe, and we can expect better technology in 2016 when the new standard would be in effect.
"And here is a study by the National Academy of Sciences explaining why 2002 CAFE standards caused 2000+ traffic deaths a year, it is a good read."

Safety features are rapidly improving, and even only 7 years after 2002, they're much better. Rear curtain airbags will be standard on most cars made three years from now.

There's no reason to expect cars to get LESS safe as technology improves, and there's a point where the size of a car really doesn't have any impact on your ability to survive an accident.
"If you understand mechanical engineering then you understand the physics of objects at speed, and you can figure out using mathematical formulas why making cars lighter after a certain point makes them less safe. That is unless you spend a ton of money making them crash resistant like a race car."

First off, there are no "formulas" for automobile safety, at least none that aren't gross oversimplifications (i.e., assuming rigid body motion, assuming linear deformation, etc...).

What you're saying is true, but not in the context of the issue. At some point, you have to compromise the safety of the car. Fox News says that it's at 35.5 mpg or below, and that is flat out FALSE. The proof is that I drive a car that gets 35.5 mpg, goes 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, and would save me in a 110mph crash.

Over time, alloys improve, techniques of getting the car to absorb collision energy improve, airbags improve, etc... 35.5 mpg does not mean the car is unsafe

Answer
It is nonsense. I am not nearly as educated about cars as you are , and even I can see it. They just want to spread hate. They make a lot of money doing it. It makes no sense to go against the president on things that he is right about doing.

Can I buy A Nano Car in the U.S.?

feeddaneed

The Indian car company Tata unveiled a four-seat automobile that will sell for just $2,500 yesterday. The Nano should be available later this year, and is aimed at people who might otherwise purchase a motorcycle. Can I buy one in the U.S.?

Answer
TATA NANO is intended for the Indian market and in the future, the developing countries. It is not aimed at N America or EU.

Therefore, TATA will not be marketing it in the USA.

Regarding Pollution:
TATA NANO adheres to Euro IV norms, and as a matter of fact, emission norms in India are far stricter than in the USA. That is why Harley-Davidson cannot enter India.

Regarding Safety:
Although not ideal for highway speeding, this car does pass the Indian frontal crash tests and has side impact resistant features and body-bonded rear window. TATA said, that with some modifications, it could be made to conform to US safety standards. They also said that air-bags cab be installed, but that will hike the price of the car.

The real reason why it will NOT be available to Americans is:
The powerful oil companies' lobby will not allow this car in the USA, because if people started trading their gas guzzling 8-cylinder SUVs for this car, the oil price will drop, and so will their profits.

If allowed in all fairness, this car will dominate the US market, and that is what is feared by the Detroit 3. They don't want this car in USA.

What US carmakers do:
Make a product and artificially create the need.

What Indian carmakers do:
Study the need and create the product.

It is however refreshing to see many Americans today are less gullible to be brainwashed into buying a gas-guzzling Hummer or a truck-sized sedan.

So, finally, the answer to your question is, it will not be sold in the USA.

IM me if you need more details.

Edit:
Carissa and sukbunny - are you two even aware that TATA NANO is Euro IV compliant? From where did you learnt that they do not meet US emission standards? Fox News?

Indian emission standards are far stricter than US emission standards - I hope this is loud and clear! The only area where it might lag behind is the air-bag thing!

How to get the Dr. Pepper cars in Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010?

Cole

I went on to the need for speed home page: http://hotpursuit.needforspeed.com/blog and i noticed that when i went to cars and clicked all of them that three were only featured as cops in the game. (Dodge Viper SRT10, Nissan 370Z Coupe, Porsche Cayman S, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo) if you scroll down and click the little wheel to view the picture of the racer version it has the Dr. Pepper emblem in the corner. In the details at the very bottom for each of these cars it says
The racer version of the Porsche Panamera Turbo is available through a promotion with Dr Pepper and is XBOX 360 only. Look for further details soon.
I have checked the nfs news frequently but nothing has come up about these cars. How do i get them???

how do I get info on a car using the VIN?

Carole Ann

I need info on a 1998 Cadillac 4 door sedan with VIN#1GEEH9OY7WU550555

Answer
Type it into google, and follow the links.

If you can use YA, you can figure something simple like this out.

And yes, it costs money.

Can you trace a cars location using the VIN?

I traded in my 2004 nissan altima to a dealership a while back and my new car is a absolute pile of shit.Went to the dealer they said nothing they could do
stupid faggots
anyways is there anyway to track down its location?

Answer
Why would you want to? So you can show up at the new owner's home and carjack it?

Well, fortunately for them you wont be able to track them down. You can run the VIN# at Carfax but they dont show personal info only where the car was last registered.

DMV no longer gives out the info after actress Rebecca Schaeffer was murdered by a stalker who obtained her address through them.

So get over it. If u miss the Altima trade ur current car in for another one.

Car displays radio info but not time. What do I do?

Robert P

We recently took our car to the shop for a repair that required removing the dashboard. Since we got it back, the car hasn't displayed the time (But displays radio information and such perfectly fine) I'm really hoping that they just unplugged it and thus reset the settings or something, and I've been trying to figure out how to enable the clock, but no luck.

It's a 2002 Crown Victoria. Any ideas?
No, it's completely black where the time is normally displayed.

Answer
Does it not display the clock at all?
Or does it reset to 00:00 every time you start the car?
If the latter, it may be a problem with the remote wire in the back of your stereo.
However I wouldn't know what to suggest if it doesn't display it at all.

Car radar detector (Valentine One)?

Shayla

I just purchased a radar detector for my car. It is a Valentine One (QJAV18) I purchased only the detector and mounting bracket. It did not come with the power outlet plug or the detector bar that can be installed on the dash of the car for easier viewing while driving.
I was told if I bought the power outlet plug that goes into the car outlet it will still work just like a regular cobra or other brands.
Yes I know I should have asked before buying but its a really nice and pricy radar that I got for a decent deal.
Someone please let me know! I don't car if I don't have the wiring harness and mini display box I just want the detector to work!
Thanks for your responces and help!
Anyother info on this device would be great also!
Best answer will be picked

Answer
What kind of cars are you planning on detecting with this radar device that does not work? Invisible ones? Aliens? Cars that do not work? Sorry, dude but I could not help myself. You got a decent deal? On a device that does not work? Oh, well. We all have our issues. I have never owned a detector nor have I even been issued a speeding citation. The rules are rather simple. At close to the speed limit, no issues. No need for any devices. If you wish to speed, then buy a car you can race in any local tracks. More fun, more rewarding. In fact, there are go-karts that can meet this need you express. Speeding is costly in more than citations, which, by the way, costs Americans over 5 BILLION DOLLARS EACH YEAR. That is five thousand million dollars. It also cost as to fuel. The speeding and reckless driving and passing to get to the next traffic light costs you about three gallons of fuel out of each ten purchased. The oil companies thank you. The gasoline retailer thanks you. The tire stores thank you. The auto repair shops thank you. The mechanics that replace the brakes thank you and a few others in this business thank you. You contribute to the economy each day. They all thank you. How much do you contribute? For gasoline alone, between $500 to $900 each year. Substantially more or a bit less. But in that range. Speeding is the highest contributor. Think of the speed difference to the speed limit and not the top number. Distance is the largest factor. To speed for five, ten, even fifteen miles is a total waste. From 60 MPH to 70 MPH (in reality averaging about 66 MPH) The difference is 6 seconds per mile. Not much. But the cost is about 30% extra fuel. And when you get the exit, a traffic light, sign or traffic shall bring those seconds to zero. So, drive 20 miles at your speed and I shall at 60 MPH. Same cars. Same road. 20 x 6=120 seconds. Two whole minutes of difference. What is the average traffic light lasts on red? Do your own numbers. Add extra wear on times and brakes and the cost is HUGE per year. I just returned from two weeks in Europe courtesy of economical driving. What shall you do with all that money? Why give to the oil execs and everyone on that list I mentioned? Do this. Make fake $100 bills of paper, cartoons. Seven of them. Put them in your pocket. How does that feel? Multiply times four. $2,800. What could you do with $2,800? Any ideas? Put this detector away in the Lessons Learned box in the attic. Start driving wisely. Best of luck.
