I am doing a texting while driving laws survey for a class of mine. What questions should I ask or not ask on this topic? This is a random survey.

Please do not give me your opinion on this topic, just questions that I should/should not ask.

Answer
I would ask the questions and then have multiple check boxes, so that the person taking the survey can check the box that best describes their texting behavior.

1- I read texts while driving:
A- All the time.
B- Some of the time.
C- Only when there aren't any other cars around.
D- Never.

2- I text while driving:
A- All the time.
B- Some of the time.
C- Only when there aren't any other cars around.
D- Never.

3- I have have read texts while driving: (Check all that apply)
A- During daylight hours.
B- At night.
C- In the rain.
D- In the snow.

4- I have texted while driving: (Check all that apply)
A- During daylight hours.
B- At night.
C- In the rain.
D- In the snow.

5- I think that texting while driving is:
A- Safe
B- Can be safe if you check your surroundings
C- Never safe.

6- If you have to contact someone while driving, which is safer?
A- Texting while driving. (Answer: 23 times more likely to have an accident.)
B- Talking on a cell phone while driving? (Answer: 1.3 times more likely to have an accident.)

7- You are how many times more likely to have an accident while texting?
A- 0
B- 2
C- 8
D- 13
E- 18
F- 23
G- 28

Answer is 23 times more likely:

You can add more questions, but I would keep them multiple choice, because then you can put them in a chart and graphs and show visuals. Charts and graphs of your data will give you a better presentation, and will get you a better grade.

Have fun and don't text and drive... LOL

To use the brake during a sliding spin in wet conditions or not?

smoothie

I was using a circular entrance ramp to I-75 last night.
It was damp out after/during a light drizzly rain. The back tires on our 2002 Chevy Trailblazer broke loose and slid around. We ended up sliding sideways into a guard rail. When the truck started to spin and slide I took my foot of the gas and steered into the spin like I had always been taught. She thinks I should have used the brake and that would have stopped the slide sooner. It was wet but not icy, around 45 degrees. Who do you think was right?
The truck is a 4x4 but was in 2 wheel drive at the time which made it rear wheel drive, sorry I should have included that info.

Expectations are the place you must always go to before you get to where you're going. Of course, some people never go beyond Expectations, but my job is to hurry them along whether they like it or not.

Safe Driving Checklist
ï¼Obey the Law
.Observe speed limits.
.Obey traffic signs and signals.
.Pass other vehicles only on the left; signal your intention before changing lanes.
.Never pass a stopped school bus.
.Yield to drivers who have the right of way.
.Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
.Use your seat belt (even if itâs not required by law in your state).

ï¼Drive Sensibly and Defensively

.Correctly position mirrors and seat before you start.
.Never tailgate; stay at least three car distances behind the driver ahead of you.
.Donât insist on the right-of-way if the other driver will not yield it.
.Dim your headlights for oncoming cars and those ahead.
.Be aware of whatâs happening several vehicle lengths ahead and behind you.

ïExpect the unexpected:

.Reckless behavior from other drivers
.People, or animals, darting into the road
.Swerving cyclists
.Potholes or debris in the roadway

ï¼Take Bad Weather Precautions

.Watch out for puddles, icy patches, and sudden pockets of fog.
.If you skid, steer gently into the turn. Do not use brakes or step on the gas
ïImprove visibility:

.Use wipers, defroster, and headlights.
.Counter glare from sun or snow with sunglasses.
.Clear snow from hood, roof, and all windows.
Management
ïWhen visibility is poor or roadways are slick:

.Reduce speed.
.Increase distance between you and the car ahead.
.Brake gently.

ï¼Maintain Your Vehicle

.Conduct pre-driving inspection every time.
.Be sure that scheduled maintenance checks are carried out in time.
.Be alert to below-par performance of any equipment; have it attended to promptly.
.Donât abuse your vehicle by driving too fast over bumpy terrain.
.Donât make unnecessarily sharp turns or sudden stops and starts.

According to AAA and the National Fire Protection Association, 75% of last year's quarter-million highway vehicle fires were caused not by an accident but poor maintenance.

Most often a mechanical or electrical failure is to blame.

The group says most fires can be prevented with an annual vehicle inspection by a trained mechanic.

According to the National Fire Protection Association Highway vehicle fires caused more deaths than apartment fires in 2004.

Last year vehicle fires killed 520 people, injured another 1300 and caused billions of dollars in property damage.

Loose electrical connections, frayed wires and cracked or ruptured fluid lines are often what caused the fire.

Highway vehicle fires accounted for 17% of all reported fires and 13% of all civilian fire deaths.

Surviving a Car Fire

According to Mike Connors, assistant fire chief for the Naperville, Ill. Fire Department, poor car maintenance is the greatest cause of car fires. Most others are caused by mechanical or electrical failure, rather than collisions or rollovers, as most of us would think.

If you attempt to put out a car fire without the proper knowledge or skills, you can put yourself or others in harm's way. Every car fire is different, so it is best to leave putting the fire out to the professionals. The first thing that you should think about is personal safety, think and act quickly. Any vehicle can be replaced, a human cannot.

If a fire occurs while you are moving on a roadway:
â¢Signal your intentions and move to the right lane.
â¢Get onto the shoulder or breakdown lane.
â¢Stop immediately.
â¢Shut off the engine.
â¢Get yourself and all other persons out of the vehicle.
â¢Get far away from the vehicle and stay away from it. Keep onlookers and others away.
â¢Warn oncoming traffic.
â¢Notify the fire department.
â¢Don't attempt to try to put out the fire yourself. (The unseen danger is the possible ignition of fuel in the vehicle's tank.)

While the vehicle is stopped in traffic or parked:
â¢Shut off the engine.
â¢Get far away from the vehicle.
â¢Warn pedestrians and other vehicles to stay away.
â¢Notify the fire department.
â¢Don't attempt to put out the fire yourself. (The unseen danger is the possible ignition of fuel in the vehicle's tank.)

Some additional tips from Tim Sendelback, training officer for the Missouri City Fire Department:
â¢Stand up-wind. "Some plastics on today's cars can produce a cyanide gas."
â¢Never stand in fluids that are running out of the car.
â¢Stand at a 45-degree angle to any bumper on the car. "Some bumpers are fluid-filled. When heated, the pressure could blow the bumper off and cause serious injury to anyone standing nearby."

notice, it says "If you skid, steer gently into the turn. Do not use brakes or step on the gas" so you were completely right according to the army...if you need more info e-mail me and i can give you the army's website that came from...i just dont want to put it on here.

Why don't British people realize that the Romanian and Bulgarian mass immigration in 2014 is a hoax?

keep_searc

Hello,

I have the feeling that at the moment, it's almost a crime if a person tries to question or defy the words of Mr Nigel Farage, many people in the UK follow this logic - 'If Nigel says so, then it's true'.
Mr Farage is a politician who now has the chance of his lifetime - his party is doing better and better with the prospect of winning seats in the House of Commons at the next general elections and becoming first at the European Parliament elections. It's understandable that like every politician, Farage has interests - and discussing again and again the (in my opinion) highly manipulative mass immigration of Bulgarians and Romanians in 2014 serves well his interests - let's inflict fear on British people so that they can vote for us, recognizing us to be their savers from the EU and from Eastern Europe.
The irony is that the potential scroungers in those two countries could have probably even not understood that they can go there and claim benefits - however, with all the heated debates, news coverage, Farage's statements etc etc, now even babies know that after 2014 people from Bulgaria and Romania can go to the UK and use the system if they want.
But - does this mean they will really do it? This is something an alarmingly few number of people seem to be thinking about. The answer in my opinion is - no, or at least not in the grotesque numbers UKIP is citing. In Bulgaria the people willing to immigrate have long done so and most of the ones left are either unwilling to immigrate or are elderly people who can't do it anyway. Plus, Germany seems to be more attractive for immigration at the moment.
Romania has a larger population but the situation there is similar - people have already used their right to move freely withing the EU as both countries are members since 2007. Spain has always been the top immigration destination for Romanians because they learn the language quickly. Romanians and Bulgarians were not told yesterday about the opportunity to go to another country and work there.
Why is everything Mr Farage say taken for 100% true? Honestly, I have the feeling this gentleman has more authority than the Queen herself! Don't you think there is a slight chance that what he says is not entirely true?
Your comments would be useful, thanks!
Frank, we have to bear in mind that when the people from Poland went to Britain in 2004, Poland had just become a member of the EU and people were for the first time able to immigrate and look for jobs in Western Europe, also the economy of the UK was at a better state at that point.
Romania and Bulgaria have been members of the EU for 5 years and many countries have offered them unrestricted access to their labour market, in contrast to the UK - this means, immigration for job purposes is not something new for Romanians and Bulgarians (it was for Poles in 2004) and they have already gone to Germany, Spain, Italy etc. Since German economy is still functioning relatively well, unlike most of the other European countries, it's logical that the influx of people will be directed to Germany, not to the UK; meanwhile, UK government should come up with some solutions how to reform the social system because 'scroungers' are coming not only from Romania and Bulgaria but from many ot

Answer
I myself am a Bulgarian immigrant in Italy. And i hear allot of Britons say that we are criminals that we have guns and knifes or any other weapons with us ??
Strange cuz Ive being living in Italy for almost year and a half now and so far i have never robbed, killed, insulted, murdered or even tweak anyone...So go figure???
I happened to think that this bad weather of yours is starting to effect your mind!??
Funny how All Britain is worried about Romanians and Bulgarians coming there but won't utter a peep about the FAR worse Islamic blacks and Arabs that have flooded your place.Muslim crime rates perhaps ten times higher there.(17%) Britain has been overwhelmed by the number of immigrants from the Islamic World who are disproportionately dependent on your welfare system. At least in my town in Bulgaria we have ZERO mosques, despite the fact that Turkey is a hour away with car ??!!
Muslim immigration clearly has influenced your fears concerning Eastern Europeans. And now the U.K. is worried about immigrants? This after you let in millions of muslims in ????'LOL Little too late...if you ask me..
This campaign you are running on your island is VERY RACIST and the last time i checked EU doesn't support this, and allows his members to travel free whenever they want wherever they want !!!
So at the end you would not gain ANYTHING!
I used to adore and respect country like England and her history and politics,i was dreaming to go to one week vacation there this summer but after all of this happened after i saw how racist and rude people from there are i decided to change with Spain instead. At least there people are educated enough to know that there is not such thing as racism in EU !
Cheers !

One could argue that one of the greatest human achievements of the 20th century was powered flight based on the seminal work of the Wright brothers between 1900 and 1910 and eventually leading to men walking on the moon and supersonic jet fighters (although I'm still waiting for my flying car). What scientific or engineering discovery or invention of 2000-2010 will have had the most impact on humanity by 2100 and why?

Canadian Inventors and Inventions
The history of invention in Canada has followed a long and noble path. Canadian inventors have patented more than one million inventions, yet few people can name more than one or two Canadian inventors or any Canadian accomplishments.
Canadian author Roy Mayer states in his book Inventing Canada: "Our innovators have given novelty, variety, and color to our lives with their great practical gifts, and the world would be an exceedingly boring and grey place without their vitality."

More twists to the Sandy Hook narrative. On December 11 Google indexed the United Way website that offered condolences to the familyâs of Sandy Hook.

This is a full three days before the actual shooting that took place on December 14 2012.

Below is a excerpt from the December 11 united Way page. Donât we all love a good conspiracy?

United Way extends our most sincere condolences and prayers to all those families affected by the devastating events in Newtown/Sandy Hook, Connecticut. While the eyes of the world may be on Newtown/Sandy Hook, to several staff, volunteers and contributors, Newtown is home. We will stand with the community and everyone affected directly and indirectly by this tragic event as we face the days and weeks ahead.

United Way of Western Connecticut is committed to providing support and resources where and when they become identified and needed. As people from our area and beyond respond to this heartbreaking tragedy, they are turning to United Way looking for ways to help. In response, United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank has created the âSandy Hook School Support Fundâ that will be able to provide support services to the families and community that has been affected.

Answer
I was quite blind until I started searching things myself. There is too much questionable info for it all to be just photoshop. 1) What happened to the other shooters that they had on video the first day? 2) How many guns were actually found on site? and where were they found, in the trunk of his car? 3)They can't even decide if the shooters mother was involved with the school! 4)There's a news video of a father "preparing" to be sad for the interview even though he is laughing off camera. 5) Why did not one of the funerals have an open casket? All of these questions (and more) have come from a couple days of watching different news reels from different dates and different stations. If the media cannot, after nearly a month, have factual information about a horrible event, I fear what kind of accuracy they have about all issues.

Answer
The snow in Wyn doesn't melt, it wears out. The entire state is at an average alt of 6000 ft, a lot closer to the jet stream, year round, so understand this, the wind always blows, It has been known to topple 18 wheelers on I-80. People watch snow getting blown through the keyholes on the front door. They call it a ground blizzard. It snows every month of the year, cept maybe July. Thats the good news. Get an indoor job, make sure it pays year round, and that it doesn't sorta run out between Dec and March. Be sure to go there first, look around and obtain proper housing. There's is no A/C, but get a real good look at your heaters. Make sure your new place has room for a car, sheltered, as in a heated, or at least electrified garage. It can be very tough on pets, you can't let them out in minus 30 degrees, with a windchill of -60. Have your cloths ready. Talk to the locals, tell the new boss you'll need a guide to successful living in an otherwise beautiful state. Live real close to work. good luck.

Any input on the weather up there and snow fall would be great! and car info also.
Thanks!

Answer

Where do I go when I backpack Australia in the summer of 2011?

One

Me and a friend are getting our backpacks and taking off to Australia in the summer of 2011! The only problem is we don't know how to go about traveling from city to city, or which cities we even want to go to. We want to travel all along the coastline though so we can check out all the amazing beaches and whatnot. How much money do you think we could get by with. What cities should we go to? I'll take all the information you have to offer on this!

Answer
Hey I am in Australia at the moment. Here are some of the popular routes that most backpackers do:

From Sydney to Cairns (the East Coast of Australia is VERY popular route as it features a majority of the beauty that is Australia). You can get tourist Greyhound pass (jump-on-jump-off). You start from one city (most people start from Sydney and go up to Cairns); Greyhound has set some pre determined stops. The pass allow you to go one way only. Check out the Greyhound Australia website for various pass options (some are short trip ones for 45 days, other are 6 months etc). Depends how long you have. You could rent a camper or car; share the expense of gas with other travelers. Worth doing if you have at least 2 other travelers coming with you and your friend. The distances are long so make sure you have enough drivers. From what I understand you can drive in Australia provided your license has no restrictions, and it is in English. Anyways, if your staying in hostels I am sure you will meet other travelers that would like to go this route. I suggest you pick up a copy of Lonely Planet for more info. on the places to go...but the Greyhound route is pretty much the typical backpacker route.

As for WA (western Australia) not many backpackers can afford to go there. Flights are generally $500ish from Sydney due to the distance. It takes about 5 hours to get there. Again, check Greyhound for hop-on-hop-off bus options. I know a person that rented a car and drove around. This is also popular in the East coast. Might be a good idea to do with a group of people; that way you only split the expense of gas.

As for the NT (Northern Territory) you may consider a tour as it is very remote. It is expensive, but that is where many of the popular Australia sights are (Ayers Rock, Uluru, Cooper Peddy, etc)

Their are some low cost Australia carriers such as Virgin Blue, Jet Star, V Australia, and Tiger. Tiger tends to be the cheapest for travel between Sydney and Melbourne. You should sign up on their website so you can receive flight specials directly to your e-mail. Watch out for booking luggage as most low cost carriers make money on this. Where and when possible travel light! and take carry on! See rules for carry on luggage with the airline. Try to aim for early morning flights as they are cheaper. I suggest you get a copy of the major holidays in Australia and New Zealand; as you want to avoid traveling during school breaks, public holidays, and schoolies (spring break) as the costs tend to be hire. Remember the seasons are reverse in OZ so the summer from December until mid February.

Have fun!

I need a good car insurance company I have 6 points and a chapter 7 in my credit report?

car recall info on ... of Los Altos! . Buy or sell, call Joe & start packing. Click for info
car recall info image

jackie0468

I have two cars one needs full coverage $500.00.00 deduc.at list, the car is a 2002 ford explorer and the other one is a 1992 dodge spirit /liability only. If you know about an insurance company that gives good coverage for a decent price let me know my current policy is $166.20 a month.

Answer
Your current policy is an average but still very good monthly payment. BUT you should know that it is high because of the explorer- this vehicle has numerous safety recalls issued by Ford Motor Corporation themselves. The insurance company is taking advantage of you because of this fact alone. So sell this quick! Buy a copy of Consumer Report's Guide to New and Used Cars and Trucks at your local book store for very detailed info on your Explorer. Down south I pay full coverage for 3 vehicles and it is just 1 payment of 184.63 for 6 months of coverage. Find that in NY state- not gonna happen ( those crooks! ). What aggitates me is why these insurance companies use your credit report for figuring out your insurance rates. I mean, how does having bad credit tell the insurance company what type of driver you are?!? Your credit report has NOTHING at all to do with how you or anyone else drives!!!!!!!!The reason for this is so that the insurance company can make even MORE money off of you and it is because they are looking at the high or low probability that you may make your payment to them on time or not based on your credit history..

How do I find out if a recall service was done on my car before I owned it?

pinklfower

My car (2001 Buick Regal LS) has 3 recalls on it. I have no idea if they were fixed while with the previous owner.

Answer
You can call 1-800-222-1020 and GM will run your VIN and tell you what recall ops have been done, what the warranty is on the new parts, and the date and exact mileage on the car when the work was done. Some manufacturers put a 12/12 warranty on recall parts, some will repeat the recall part if it fails for the same reason that caused it to be recalled, some put a 12 month/unlimited mileage on the new parts. GM will also inform you of any new recalls or servide bulletins when you call them. I advise against getting the info from a dealer. I am involved in a claims mess right now because a customer took their Escort ZX2 to Ford for a transmission problem, and Ford told them there was no recall on it and wanted $4200.00 to fix it. The customer paid Ford for looking at it, then had it towed to AAMCO. When they called in a claim, I informed them that Ford put a 5/100,000 powertrain extended warranty on the ZX2, so the customer was charged again for this shop looking at the car, and it is going right back to Ford. I called a Ford dealer and they told me the car is not under warranty. When I called Ford Motor Company, they told me the car is in fact, under a powertrain warranty. I just don't think you will get accurate information from a dealer who isn't going to make as much money on the recall, so they may tell you there are no recalls. I would call GM directly for a straight answer and save the headache.

what started the protests of people in Syria?

i have project about the arab spring. But i don't understand what started the protest of people in the syria. help!

Answer
A protest movement recently began in Syria calling for more democracy, freedom, and reforms. It was originally peaceful, but outside forces and extremist factions hijacked this movement for their own purposes, and began using violence. The Syrian army then had to respond with even more violence, and an armed conflict erupted.

The majority of those currently fighting against the Syrian government are terrorists and foreign mercenaries. America, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and several other countries have been funding these terrorists and using them to try to overthrow the Syrian government. They are smuggling large amounts of weapons to these groups across the Syrian border, and they are also sending in hired insurgents from other countries to kill random people and cause chaos.

Every day, these terrorist groups are blowing up government buildings, sabotaging infrastructure, setting off car bombs in residential areas, and murdering people on a mass scale. They are destroying and terrorizing neighborhoods, committing massacres, forcing people to flee their homes and targeting anyone whom they suspect of supporting the government.

The collection of terrorist groups known as the "Free Syrian Army" is kidnapping and torturing people every day. Since the start of the crisis they have killed over 10,000 civilians, soldiers and policemen. Many of them are salafi extremists who want to establish an Islamic state in Syria, or radical Sunni terrorists motivated by sectarian hatred. Many of them are jihadists linked to al-Qaeda, and many are insurgents who have come from places like Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt and elsewhere, by illegally crossing the Syrian border.

The US wants to overthrow the Syrian government not for humanitarian reasons as the media claims, but for geopolitical reasons, in particular because of Syria's firm stance against Israel, its opposition to US regional interests, its support for resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon, and its alliance with major US enemies like Russia, China and Iran. By destroying Syria the US would be able to break apart the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah axis and get closer to establishing total hegemony in the middle east.

Not only has the US planned an overthrow of the Syrian government for decades, but it has also provided training to so-called Syrian âactivistsâ, and has armed and funded sectarian terrorist groups in Syria before the start of the current âuprisingâ. (bit.ly/KmkQF3)

The majority of "news reports" about Syria that you see on CNN/BBC/Al-Jazeera are stories and rumors that are taken without any verification directly from Syrian opposition sources and from anonymous "activists" who have a vested interest in painting the Syrian situation in a certain way. Most of the time these stories later turn out to be misleading or completely false, and many times the sources of these stories are not even in Syria.

For example; the "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights", which is possibly the most quoted source in the media about the Syrian conflict, is actually run from an apartment in England by one man who owns a clothes shop and apparently gets all his information from "anonymous phonecalls". Meanwhile, sources actually on the ground in Syria who tell a completely different story are ignored.

The western mainstream media is owned by the military-industrial complex and is an inseparable part of the establishment. It is controlled by the very same interests that are trying to overthrow Syria, and its job is to help facilitate that overthrow by manipulating public opinion. That is why the media demonizes the Syrian government and exaggerates its wrongdoings while ignoring the atrocities committed by the rebels.

What you will never hear on the news is that the Syrian government has already met most of the demands of the legitimate opposition in Syria (those who are making their demands peacefully, and who are actually inside Syria, unlike the Istanbul-based SNC that is calling for foreign invasion).

The Syrian government has already implemented new party laws, new media laws, new election laws, a new constitution has been implemented via referendum, the emergency law has been lifted, general amnesty has been granted multiple times, there have been new local & parliamentary elections, etc.

Why Is Syria Currently In The Civil War?

Can I install Bluetooth into a 2008 Toyota Camry SE?

car infotainment systems on Intel to introduce car infotainment system - Worldnews.com
car infotainment systems image

Anonymous

I'm looking to install a Bluetooth feature into my 2008 Toyota Camry SE. When the car was purchased, the owner opted to not have Bluetooth installed by the manufacturer. I have done a small amount of research and found kits that you can add, but none of them seem to connect to the car stereo system itself.

Is there any way I can install a Bluetooth system into the Camry that will both allow me to make calls as well as stream music from an iPhone, and that also utilizes the built in speakers in the Camry itself?

I can install it myself; I just need suggestions as to the product I need to purchase.

Thanks.

Answer
Well, if you really want the bluetooth technology in your car then you've to remove your existing stereo system with a factory integrated infotainment system. because there is no other way round.

Is the 2008 G35 sedan the same as a 2009 G37 sedan other than the larger displacement engine?

Drizzy

Is there any difference in the body style, added features or anything else?

Answer
No Its literally the same exact car. The only difference, as already stated above is that the G37 sedan has a larger displacement engine. The 2007-2008 G35 sedan composed a 3.5 liter V6 producing 306 HP hence its name the "G35" while the 2009 model received a revised 3.7 liter V6 engine producing 328 HP which quickly prompted its name to a G37 sedan equivalent to the G37 coupe. Minor revisions where given to the 2009 G sedan model but nothing aesthetically different or even noticeable that would differentiate the 09 model from the 08 model. Other then the engine, the 2009 model received new knobs for the heated seat settings, white background illumination for the LCD infotainment system & for the Drivers Gauge display. It also received a new seven-speed automatic transmission to go with it compared to last year's six-speed. When you really start seeing a noticeable difference between the G35 and G37 sedans is when you compare the 2010 models which where face lifted and revised both in and out.

Here are the minor differences between the G35 & G37 sedan:

car info iphone app image

myles360

ive got an iphone and just want some really good/fun and useful apps any suggestions ? and also games :)

Answer
voilá! here they are. (:

free ones:
blackjack run lite - (blackjack/21)
brain toot (free) - like "brain age" for nintendo ds
checkplease - tip calculator that splits the check/tip amongst however many people you tell it to, plus can round the tips up if you want it to
dictionaire: the simple dictionary
easywriter - lets you type emails and stuff with the ipod held longwise, so the keys are more spaced apart (easier to type)
facebook - an essential app, obviously
free translator - a billion different languages
google mobile app
graphing calculator - graphs better than my ti84 silver edition plus, no joke
hangman
italk recorder - what i use for interviews for the dth (sooo much better than a voice recorder)
nytimes
restaurant nutrition - because i like to know what i'm putting in my mouth. it has a TON of restaurants and eateries around the nation, and it splits each one's menu into things like "appetizers", "soups", "desserts", "dressings and sauces", "sandwiches", etc. along with each item's full nutritional information
onetap movies - it uses gps to find your location, then finds the closest movie theatres and displays the movies that are playing and when they're playing plus it gives information and trailers on each movie
pocketpedia - if someone recommends a book, movie, cd, or videogame to you, you can type it in and find all its info and ratings, then can add it to a list to remind yourself about it the next time you're at blockbuster or the library or gamestop, etc.
shazam - HOLY CHICKEN THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER. whenever you're in a store or in someone's car or something and a song comes on that you don't know but you like, just open this app and it listens to the music for 12 seconds and immediately tells you what it is, including all its info and how to download it. it also works if you hum the tune or sing it yourself. it's worked on japanese opera, indian bhangra, and even poorly-played piano mimicry. AMAZING.

paid ones:
bugdom 2 - tilt the ipod around to make the bug walk and stuff--it's a hardcore game, man
crash bandicoot nitro - AWESOME racing game
crosswords
diner dash - one of my favorite games ever, and worth every penny
etch a sketch - take your photos and draw on them, and if you don't like what you drew you can shake it and it'll go away--then you can export your creations via email
everest: hidden expedition - an "i spy" game
flipbook - make your own flipbook--SO COOL. they have a lite (free) version, so check that one out.
iflipr flashcards - again, this one has a lite (free) version so you can test it out and see if you like it. you can make the flashcards on your ipod or online (iflipr.com), and go through them on either as well. you can also look at flashcard sets other people have made. it updates itself every time you make a new set, so when you're walking or waiting in line you can be studying. HELLA HELPFUL.
imahjong premium - the tile-matching game
sally's salon - like "diner dash"
satori sudoku
solitaire - there's also a "sol free solitaire" game that's free, so you might want to do that one instead...although i love this $0.99 version because you can make it for left-handed people and there aren't any glitches. it responds really well to your fingers, etc.

is there Iphone app i can get so if something happens to me the police will know what to do and who to call?

Lisa Hart

Should I worry about the miles my car have?

car news japan on Toyota Tundra diesel motors | All About Japan Autos
car news japan image

???

My dad just bought my a new used car that has 165k miles on it. Now all of a sudden, he's experiencing "Buyer's remorse". He thinks he spent too much money on the car. Good news runs VERY well and there's nothing to worry about in the present time being. He has me paranoid now and I don't know what to think.

Answer
For a lot of cars, 300,000 miles is the usual EOL (end of life) point -- not just mechanically, but to a point where the car costs money to run and doesn't use gas as efficiently. If you bought a Honda or Toyota or any other brand that originates from Japan, you probably will be fine up until 300,000 or even more; as long as the car was maintained consistently.

If you got a Pontiac or a Chrysler or a Ford, it could run until 300,000, but may be less likely to due to reliability issues that are commonly found in some cars.

How much will Toyota car prices rise?

gest4sumfu

I'm planning on purchasing a 2011 Toyota Rav4 this June. Buying earlier is not really an option. News reports say that the prices will increase due to the crisis in Japan. I'm wondering how much more ($ or percent) these prices will rise. I'm looking for responses from qualified people (car salesmen, Toyota company workers, etc.) Thanks!

Answer
The popular models like the Prius, Corolla and RAV4 will go up as supply falls in the coming weeks.

Whether they will still be inflated by June will depend on whether the plants are operating at full capacity by that time. Worst case scenario - there may not even be a RAV4 available for you to buy.

Sure the vehicles can be built in other plants, but a number of the parts ultimately come from Japan. If they aren't producing those parts, then the vehicles cannot be completed.

Does anyone have any tourist info on San Francisco?

mjv842

We are headed to San Fran for a wedding in a few weeks and are staying a few extra days. We are looking for inexpensive things to do while we're there. We would like some fun ideas that people have done themselves. We have searched the internet and we get so much info that its overwhelming. Also, we are wondering if we should rent a car or if public transportation is good enough. We definitely want to experience the cable cars.

Any info would be appreciated.

Answer
I could write you an essay on the amount of things to do on a budget but I'll try to keep it short.

First off, public transportation is the BEST way to go. Parking and traffic is just horrid. BART is the quickest way around but in many cases it can mean a bus transfer or a nice walk additionally (not bad-I promise, just wear comfortable shoes). PLEASE use the first 2 links i pasted to help you accurately customize your routes--both are just great--so detailed and informative. I live here and I still rely on them sometimes.

Now for the good part. It is very easy to enjoy nature landmarks for FREE in sf (not including the getting there obviously). Take a walk on the golden gate bridge (awesome views), take a stroll on ocean beach, picnic in golden gate park, & take a taxi to drive on lombard street or walk on it! Coit tower is free and has beautiful views of the whole city (when it's not foggy!) You could squeaze this in a day if you don't lounge too much. The running around might tire you though.

Window shopping is an experience in San Francisco.
Hot spots for tourists include pier 39 (Eat at Boudin sourdough bread factory and head over to Ghiradelli square chocolate factory for dessert--ya gotta eat sometime, right?) plus Haight and Ashbury, our hippie district, which is by golden gate park.

Keep in mind, Pier 39 and a cable car ride is a good day exertion. If you still have energy though, vist north beach and china town also, which all run into eachother. Don't forget to admire the bay while you're at the pier--so beautiful and underrated sometimes, I think.

If you plan on buying souvenirs, China Town has the most inexpensive options and some yummy dim sum and fortune cookie samples from the factory (follow your nose).

Take BART to 16th street and mission to experience fun cafes (morning dew is a great cafe at good prices) and the unique, clashed personalities of that whole area. Tartine bakery is an extremely popular place (food is to die for although a bit pricey) and is about 4 blocks over next to a beautiful park called Dolores park on Dolores street. You can also take a FREE tour of the Dolores mission down a couple blocks. This area is one of my favorite areas to hang out in the city at any hour of the day or night but hasn't caught on with tourists yet I don't think. My other favorite area is embarcadero (Try going to a giants game over there at at&t park maybe? cheap tix on stubhub).

I hope you can utilize this info-- have fun!

I took the car to a mechanic and he changed the fuel filter since it was clogged. It Fixed the problem for 2 days then it started shaking again.. I took it back and he switched out the hoses on the engine. The car ran great until now its the same problem. When im stopped it shakes horribly. Please Help.

Answer
Doesn't make sense that the fuel filter caused the shaking at "idle"...
If it did, you would have also had a severe loss of power at road speeds...
I would look elsewhere for your problem.. Its Not the fuel filter...
A vacuum leak could cause the shaking at idle, and then seem fine while moving...... Hard to say for certain with the limited info you provided..

What's the best way for a person who isn't a car mechanic to become good at working on cars?

xtremelyeu

I noticed that there are many people who work on their own cars to save money on labor and avoid being over-charged for parts by mechanics. I'm really interested in cars and I would like to be able to do repair work on my own car. However, I don't know how. Currently, I own a 2003 Jetta GL 2.0 and the only things I know how to do are how to change the engine oil and check tire pressure. I would really love to learn how to do more advanced stuff, like diagnosing parasitic electrical drains, changing timing belts, replacing suspension parts, etc. I have done a bit of poking around on some forums, but I'm not going to lie, some of the more technical stuff seems daunting to me. I realize that learning is a long process and I won't learn those things overnight. But what would be a good place to start? Should I start by reading some general maintenance manuals? If so, which ones would you recommend? I already downloaded a copy of the Bentley Repair manual for my Jetta (which is considered to be the best repair manual for VW by most people). It's about 2000 pages long and lists all of the specifics for my vehicle. Should I just skip over any general repair books and start reading that manual? Or do you have any other recommendations for getting good at cars. I don't have any people in my family who have this type of knowledge, so I can't ask them to teach me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer
First off, great idea on the Bentley manual, they are the best for VW and the cheaper ones (Haynes and Chiltons) have a lot of incorrect info. Also, since you have a VW, there is a huge enthusiast following for VW's and the forum sites for them are the best I've ever seen, VWvortex.com and TDIclub.com are my favorites. Even though you don't have a TDI, there is a lot of non engine stuff on TDIclub site. There are hundreds of well written write ups with photos and even how to videos on both those sites.
Next, I would say get yourself a decent tool set, and doesn't have to be top of the line. Harbor freight has a lifetime guarantee on their hand tools and are a lot cheaper than other tools. Make sure your set has basic wrenches and sockets both sae and metric, as well as pliers and the other basics. You can buy specialty tools as needed. Then just start working on your car. If you don't feel comfortable with the more in depth jobs then study more before trying it and ask a friend with more experience to help. I spent a week watching and re-watching over an hour of how-to videos online before I felt confident enough to open my injection pump and change the seals.
I started out just like you, air pressure and oil changes and I've never had any formal training. So just stick with it, and trust me... there will be jobs that you learn are best left to pros, and others that you can get done in half the time it takes them. You just have to try and figure it out.

How would someone go about learning how to restore old cars?

I wanna know everything there is to know about them. I'm currently a sophomore and have the option of going to this career center thingy next year for cars, would that be the way to go?

Answer
That could be a great way to start because you would get hands-on experience in a place that is professionally set up so you probably don't have to buy a lot of tools or have a garage/area of your own. The question is, what kind of cars do you want to restore? Officially, any car over 30 yrs old is an "antique", but that means cars from the 1970's. Is that what you mean, or more like the 40's, 30's or 20's? Do you want to do "true" restoration, back to the original, or do you want to make hot rods, or _____? Think it over and ask yourself some questions.

Look on the internet for an automotive club in your area. There are all sorts of car clubs -- for real antiques, race enthusists, etc etc etc. Go online and go to the organization websites, join and talk to people. They are really fun and interesting people who are enjoy what they do. Read blogs, go to local shows and drive-in rallies, etc. (Just be safe when you exchange info or make plans to meet someone!) People will be very happy to take a newbie under their wing and share their knowledge with you if you are polite and sincere.

What is the best way to become a genius on cars?

I'm a guy and I don't know much about cars and I feel like I should. What's the best way to learn more about cars?

Answer
Listening to "Car Talk" is a great way to learn, and outrageously fun/funny.

It is a radio show about cars, but they guys mostly just joke around.

You need to get your hands dirty to learn about fixing them, which is hard these days because modern cars tend to be computerized.

Offer to help someone you know who is knowledgeable about cars. There are local auto clubs and shows, which are a great source of info.

When should I buy a new hybrid car?

I am in the market to buy a new car in the up coming year or two. I want a hyprid becuase of the gas milage ect... I don't really want a super small car Honda insight or Toyota Prius more of a standard size, unless it will get wicked good gas milage. Does anyone know if there will be any new hybrids coming out within the next year or so that I should look for?

Answer
Unfortunately, most manufacturers so not announce their upcoming hybrid release plans. Not all hybrids are created alike (some are more geared towards performance (acceleration and available power) than to fuel economy), and some have more hybrid features than others (full hybrid vs. mild hybrid). So, just because it says hybrid doesn't mean that it has "wicked good gas mileage."

So, you would be best to find the best fuel economy vehicle in the vehicle class that you are looking at. For your choices in the US, I'd suggest:

http://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/

I'm not entirely sure what size of vehicle that you are looking for. The Honda Insight was discontinued in the 2006 model year, so you'll only find that 2-seater in the used market. Meanwhile, the Toyota Prius is currently a midsize hatchback, which is the same size class as the popular Toyota Camry, or Nissan Altima, or Chevy Malibu, or Saturn Aura (all of which also have hybrid versions available) or the also popular Honda Accord (which had a performance-tuned hybrid option available in the past, but is now discontinued and only available used). In fact, of the currently available hybrid vehicles in the US for the 2008 model year, the only ones that are smaller than a Toyota Prius are the compact-sized Honda Civic Hybrid and the Lexus GS450h.

If you are planning on the US Federal income tax credit for your hybrid purchase, the sooner you purchase, the better, as there is a sunset phaseout provision set for after a manufacturer has sold a certain number of hybrids. The Toyota/Lexus credits have passed this sunset already (so no more credits), and Honda is currently in the phaseout period...

Hybrids do cost less in the long term than their conventional counterparts. (Intellichoice used a 5 year ownership comparison in 2006) See http://www.intellichoice.com/press/Hybrid-Survey-2006 and http://www.intellichoice.com/carBuying101/HypeOverHybrids )

While Consumer Reports in 2006 only found the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid would pay off within the same 5 year frame. The Honda Accord Hybrid, the Ford Escape Hybrid, the Lexus RX400h, and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid were also studied. (I'll note that there was a mathematical error in the initial publication of Consumer Reports' hybrid vehicle cost analysis, which a retraction was published later... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11637968/ ) Since this publication, many more hybrid models have become available, so I can't use this to say about hybrids "in general." However, in the US, the Toyota hybrids have sold so many that they no longer qualify for the US Federal hybrid vehicle income tax credit, but Honda and others still have theirs.

Check out the April issue of Consumer Reports if you want reliability information. Here are their top picks for both new and used vehicles:

and the Prius was just rated top Green Car for the 5th year in a row: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/new-cars/news/2007/04/top-picks-for-2007-4-07/overview/0704_top-picks-2007.htm

The Prius is also in edmunds' used cars best bets list as well, and their lowest true cost to own list (2007 and 2008).

Announced hybrids to keep an eye out for are the upcoming plug-in hybrids due out in 2010, a plug-in capable version of the Toyota Prius and the new Chevy Volt.

The hybrid batteries are typically placed behind the rear seat/above the rear axle, and are not prone to damage in a vehicular accident. (Nor is it easy to cut the bright orange HV cables that run under the car, either.) The hybrid battery is disconnected from the rest of the car when the vehicle is off (SOP for first responders is to turn off/remove key to disable vehicle in an accident) and also when the air bags are deployed. Only a poorly-trained emergency department will not approach your vehicle in an accident. (Emergency Responder guides are available from all hybrid manufacturers for free, and most manufacturers also provide free training sessions when asked.)

The hybrid batteries are warrantied (Full, not pro-rated) for at least 8 years/80,000 miles or longer, depending on manufacturer, out to 10 years/150,000 miles if an AT-PZEV model in a CA emissions state.

About how much will it cost to repaint a nissan sentra?

Its black, but the top is rusted off and it news a new coat.

Answer
It depends the quality of work you want done on your Nissan. There is Miracle paint shops or Earl Shibe or something that can repaint the entire car, which doesn't need any body dent work though, for around $200-$500. They give 3 months to a 12 months guarantee on their paint job. But those paint jobs look bad or ok and should only be done on old old car that you don't care about or if you are trying to sell an old car.

Good paint jobs can cost from $1000 and up. Also, try to always use the same color to color your car which is the original color of the car otherwise it depreciates the value of the car if you use another color paint while repainting the entire car. Seems like you want to keep the car, and it appears like an old car too, so I guess you can use those inexpensive paint shops to repaint the car or find another local paint shop which could do it for few hundred only.
