How much does it cost to ship a car from Minnesota to Nigeria?

ragingravi

Its going to my Grandfather so i dont have to worry about being hustled by some guy tryin to buy it over seas. . . And its a Lexus. So know i ain get sucked into no scheme or nothin. Thanks tho

Answer
I just had a car shipped across country (US). I got quotes as high as $1400. I ended up having someone drive it out. It put some miles on my car, but it was being used for much needed transportation.
I can only imagine that shipping to Africa would be much higher than the $1400 quote I received. I'd guess over $10,000.
Furthermore, I hope you do heed the advice of others. Taking this on for someone you don't know sounds like bad news.

Quotes that demonstrate Republican bigotry?

I already googled it and, believe it or not, I have not found much. Any help appreciated.

Is my car damaged or is it gonna work after a day or 2?

My car was parked in a parking lot and it was flooded during rain. The tires were under water and the inside was filled with water up too the bottom of the seat. I tried to start the car to take it out but it wouldn't start. So i put it in neutral and pushed it out with the help of a friend. Then i tried to start the car again to park it somewhere else. But I just heard something like small thud sound and it wouldn't atleast make the normal che-che-che sound when it is cold.
Will the engine start after a day or 2 when its dry or is it damaged.

Thankyou !!!!

Answer
You don't mention make, model, or year, but my guess is that the electronics or at least the wiring got wet. A number of cars have the ECU under the front seat, and water is fatal to those. The good news is that for all but the latest or rarest cars the ECUs are available from wrecking yards for about $100. Other modules are similarly priced - in all cases, shop around.

In any case, if you look under the carpet (which you should have out drying to prevent mold) and follow the wiring you will probably find your problem.

whats better a car, corolla 2004 or new one?

jiiij

Okay so my options are a toyota corolla 2004 with 80k miles on it.
the other choice is a completely new 2011 corolla. So whats a better model and deal???

Answer
brand new cars are a horrible investment. they lose value the minute you drive off the lot, and they're worth thousands less over just a year. the insurance is also expensive as hell, with the 2011 you'd be required to get full coverage. with the older cars like the '04 Corolla, you'd only need liability which can save you a decent bit of cash if you're interested.

there's nothing wrong with a used car. the '04 may have more miles, but it's going to be ultimately cheaper to own/maintain. it's only 7 years older than the 2011, but cars are getting more complicated each year with a variety of electronics/control systems that you really don't need when it comes to everyday driving. this results in more things that will eventually break, which is bad news if you plan on having this thing for a long time. it may have 80k on it, but Corollas have pretty long lifespans and as long as you keep it maintained, it wouldn't surprise me if it went over 250k.

Forward facing car seat?

Q. My son is 13 months old and recently had his one year check up and it was suggested by his doc that he could go ahead and be in a forward facing car seat. I've done research and have read articles that suggest not to change from rear facing to forward facing until you absolutely have to. Any tips or experiences to help me decide when would be a good time?

Answer
2 is a bare minimum per the AAP (the organization whose advice your doctor should be following but clearly isn't) http://www.healthychildren.org/english/news/pages/aap-updates-recommendations-on-car-seats.aspx?nfstatus=401&nftoken=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000&nfstatusdescription=ERROR%3a+No+local+token and the NHTSA recommends rear facing right up until the child's 4th birthday as long as they still fit rear facing in their convertible seat http://www.nhtsa.gov/ChildSafety/step2

And this is a wealth of information on rear facing http://carseatblog.com/5168/why-rear-facing-is-better-your-rf-link-guide/

Personal experience: my godson moved to a Graco MyRide rear facing around 6 months. He's a big boy- over the 97th percentiles for height and weight. In the meantime, I purchased an Evenflo Tribute for a spare seat. He outgrew the Tribute around 21 months so we put that away and used the MyRide full time. Then I purchased an Evenflo Triumph 65 to keep in my car for him. At 2 1/2 years old he outgrew the MyRide rear facing by height so now with his mom he rides forward facing in his Evenflo Tribute. He's pretty much at the height limit for that so he's switching to a Graco Argos. He's still rear facing in my car because he's still within the height and weight limit. If he hadn't outgrown his MyRide, he would still be rear facing 100% of the time. He's rather uncomfortable forward facing- he doesn't have anywhere to prop his legs up, and because he's not as reclined as he was rear facing, his head falls forward when he sleeps.

What is the latest news update on the little girl Caylee?

Q. I have been out all day, and saw only the headlines during dinner at the pizza place and could not hear any of the news said, does anyone know if they have found her?

Answer
i think Caylee's mother has been arrested. the news was saying something about how there was a rotting smell in her car, which they think was Caylee's body, but her mother is saying that it was rotting pizza, not Caylee. it is so sad that innocent little girls, like Caylee and Madeline McCan go missing.

New car recommendations for $25k to $31k?

Q. We are having info overload as we research. We've driven a few but nothing blows us away.

We have a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids ages 8 and younger). Car will mainly be used for daily business commute of around 25 miles round-trip with occasional piling in of entire family. We'd prefer gas mileage of 25mph or better that is comfortable for all in the back, leather, moonroof.

Kicking around Honda Accord (hybrid or normal sedan), Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 6.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks.

Answer
First, avoid Hybrids. More complex systems, thousands of dollars more to buy for only a few mpg increase, and when the battery fails, it's several thousand to replace. A Prius battery for example is about $4000 to replace, plus labor.

Here's some things to think about.
The Mazda6, Honda accord V6 (the only one worth buying) and the Elantra all use timing belts. Timing belts have to be replaced every 3-5 years at a cost of $800-1500. If a car needs a $1000 repair after just 3-5 years, that's not very reliable.

By comparison, let's look at some alternatives.
For that price range, you can get a 3.6L V6 Dodge Charger that gets 31mpg highway and still has 300hp. Plus it would be far more comfortable for all involved, and more reliable.

You can also get a Ford Fusion with either the 2.5L I4 or the 2.0l ecoboost. Both of them will get better fuel economy than you could want, and both have timing chains that never need replaced. No $1000 repairs every 3-5 years. The 2.5L Fusion gets 22/34mpg, the 2.0L EcoBoost 2.0 gets 22/33. That's just as good as the Accord V6s 21/34, both are slightly cheaper than the V6 Accord, and will be more reliable.

Small town info.?

Q. I am in my 30s, single, no children. I would like to move somewhere else in the future. For people living in small towns, tell me why your town is a great place to live and why. I am looking for info that you don't get in books.

Answer
Lawrence, KS

http://www.lawrence.com/

http://www.city-data.com/city/Lawrence-Kansas.html

The "Midwest Oasis." It's between Kansas City & Topeka, home to Haskell Indian Nations University & the University of Kansas.

Population 80,000, including 30,000 KU students (the town dramatically shrinks in the summer when all the students & professors are out-of-town). But there is an amazing sense of community here & feels a lot smaller. Everyone knows everyone.

Downtown, East Lawrence, & Old West Lawrence have the small town feel. West Lawrence is suburbia from hell. It is very possible to never, ever cross over to that side of town because we have a vibrant downtown with retail shops, restaurants (down home & exotic), bars (something for everyone, including Free State Brewery), & small grocery stores (local, organic, & specialty). And there is a great Farmers' Market 9 months of the year. Local food--everything from greens & tofu to elk & buffalo--is big here.

There is an okay bus system and a lot of people walk or bike everywhere. It's a progressive, open minded community. There is a no smoking ban (excluding the Hookah House), gay partner registry, & the city uses hybrid cars.

Because Lawrence was settled by people from Boston (in a successful effort to stop the spread of slavery west) it looks completely different from the rest of the state. There are trees everywhere, a river, a lake, and the town is centered around a giant hill (Mt. Oread) with KU at the top.

Lawrence is the 2nd most educated city in the country (after Boston). That means there are a lot of coffee shops & book stores.

The best jobs to be found are in education (public, Montessori, & Catholic schools), KU, the service industry, & self-employed. Other big employers here are Hallmark cards, the city government, & in-bound call centers (pay great, lousy atmosphere).

It's a magnet here. People move here from little Kansas towns for the quality of living. Or for school. Or for a job. And never leave. Or they do move away. Usually to Portland, OR, or Denver--then move back.

There are a broad spectrum of churches, a synagogue, a Buddhist center, a mosque, & agnostic & atheists groups.

The Downfalls

Spring & Fall are great. Winter is cold (although not like, say, Chicago). Summer is hot.

Cost-of-living is high for midwest towns. (California transplants laugh at this, though.)

It's in the middle of the country. Great for a lot of people. Not so great if want to live close to the ocean.

College kids are a mixed blessing. The annoying ones stick to places you'll never go.

The town is obsessed with basketball. (But also with Barrack Obama.)

The sprawling Westside. Again, easy to pretend it doesn't exist.

Not diverse compared to huge cities. (BUT exceptionally diverse for a town.)

Did you see the news..people lighting their cars on fire?

Q. to get out of car payments ? what is wrong with people ?

Answer
Maybe they just couldn't afford their heating bills and decided to make community fires to help their community? Nah, there are just too many idiots running around in society today.

How often do car fires happen?

Q. how often does this emergency occur, in what conditions does it often happen, how many fatalities does it cause each year, and what places are it most likely to happen???? PLZ HELP??? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

Answer
Considering the number of cars on the road (254 million), in 2005, there were 266,000 car fires with 520 fatalities. That equates to 0.1% of all of the registered cars in the US are involved in a car fire. Some were definitely arson, some were as a result of an accident and some were spontaneous. Some car designs were more prone to fires than others. The Ford Pinto was the big news in the 70s (fires in rear end collisions).

So, if you want to make it sound like a major problem, key on the 266,000 car fires in one year. If you want to make it sound like a minor problem, key on the 0.1% number.

Car fires can happen any where, any time under any conditions (driving, parked with everything off, etc). The battery supplies enough current to start a fire under the right conditions. Even though the headlights (for example) are fused at 20 amps, it can take only 1 amp in a high resistance short circuit to start a fire.

thegreatbr

can you help me.IAm 16 and want a car that does no harm to anything....could you help me locate one to buy?

Answer
Strart saving your money for the World's Cleanest Car. It runs on compressed air.

"BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.

The air car, also known as the Mini-CAT or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a 1.5 euro fill-up -- roughly 125 miles for $3. The top speed will be almost 70 mph and the cost of the vehicle as low as $7000.

The car features a fibreglass body and a revolutionary electrical system and is completely computer-controlled. It is powered by the expansion of compressed air, using no combustion at all, and the exhaust is entirely clean and cool enough for use in the internal air conditioning system. "

What is the latest news about Peugeot 407?

yaser f

Answer
Sydney, Australia â Following the surge in demand for diesel-powered cars in Australia in the last 18 months, Peugeot has made the decision to import its stump-pulling 407 SV HDi into Australia, priced from $61,990 for the sedan and $64,990 for the wagon.

Not only is this new model part of a growing range of performance diesels, but it also takes its place as the new range-topping 407 model in Peugeot's intelligent mid-sized luxury car line-up. The Ed has already reviewed a pair of 407 models, the 3.0-litre V6 petrol sedan and the 2.0-litre L4 diesel wagon, and if you take a quick look at the overall scores, both cars scored very well, with the 2.0-litre diesel model scoring a half wombat higher than the petrol model.

These increasingly popular high-powered turbo diesel vehicles are taking off in Europe, where German car makers like BMW and Audi are releasing powerful diesel models to tempt buyers who are looking for performance that isn't compromised by fuel consumption. The new Peugeot is a French example of the emerging 'performance diesel', designed to reward drivers with its powerful and sporty properties, while delivering levels of fuel consumption to rival 4-cylinder runabouts.

The numbers talk for themselves: Peugeot claims the new 2.7-litre V6 diesel twin turbo 407 drinks just 8.4L/100km on the combined city/highway fuel cycle. To break up the numbers, the new top-spec Peugeot slurps 11.7L/100km during the city cycle, and a miserly 6.5L/100km for the highway cycle. The French car company reckons this gives owners a range of about 800km per tank (66 litre capacity), giving new meaning to the old catch-phrase about frugal cars being able to run on the fumes of an oily rag.

And for drivers wanting to reduce their carbon footprint, diesel and hybrid technology are best ways to go in anything larger than a super mini, and it's fitting that the 2.7-litre motor found in the new Peugeot is equipped with a particulate filter (standard on all Peugeot diesel engines), and the French company maintains that the SV HDi's emission levels meet Euro 4 requirements.

The car is a mite expensive however, costing a bit more than $60,000 for the sedan, but Peugeot has made sure the car is as well-equipped as a top spec BMW, and there are huge savings to be had from running a diesel car, which will make themselves felt after even six months and particularly for drivers who clock up big odometer numbers each year.

The car's other selling points include a 5-star NCAP safety rating - the highest rating possible - featuring six airbags, two of which are body length curtain airbags, protecting rear seat occupants as well as front. Peugeot's new twin turbo diesel luxury car is evidently frugal and safe, but what about performance?

How does 440Nm of torque sound? The 24-valve engine features two exhaust gas driven turbochargers to reach this level of torque, which hits the front wheels @ 1900rpm for effortless drivability, and is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Chinese VS. Indian cars?

I am biased towards Indian cars.cause I am Indian, but I think they are better.

Why?

Because they have better crash safety, even the tiny Tata Nano is better than a Chinese coupe or smalls sedan in terms of front and rear impact.

Indian cars usualyl have more powerful power plants.

More reliability, if you know Mahindra and TATA, they will go on forever.

They actually have nice diesel engines, and have better engine tech because they have bought many "powerful" western engine making companies and have ventures with Japanese companies like Honda and Suzuki.

Interior of Indian cars is......bad, worse than Chinese cars. But, other than that, I see no other faults.

But what do you guys think?

(Please no uneducated folk who think of India as a cow herding country just because it hasn't been in the news as much as China; stop looking at info from the 70's or 80's.)

Answer
Chinese cars suck, which is why GM is taking over the market in China.
Indian cars not equipped with the appropriate features for the American market. Not only that, since India likes to hope on the train with the best opportunities, like the relationship between India and Russia during the Cold War, even with the appropriate modifications you'll not going to see those cars in the USA.

Even if such vehicles are allowed inside, I really doubt they would sale. Ask KIA how hard it was to get into the American market versus Japanese vehicles, European vehicles, Ford, GM, Daimwhatever, etc. Shoot, why do you not ask an more harder question like this.
Hell, Indian cars will not even sale in California which has an extremely strong car culture, possibly the most out of all the States. Car sales here are the highest in the USA and there's no adequate public transportation in So.Cal. Taxis are hell a lot expensive compared to NY. The MetroLink train that runs on very specific and few "Lines" charges 56.2 cents a mile. =/ It takes me over 15 dollars from Fontana to LA Union Station. It takes me less than 3 dollars to drive there on the 210, safer and faster as well, That shows you how much car industry's lobbyist hinder Public Transportation efforts.

Also, many States are adapting much of Californian emission laws which are the toughest in the USA.

Which car is better, Indian or Brazilian.

Also, diesel engines will not sale well in the USA because it's very inconvenient. Take Peugot, or w/e it's called, they did not survive the American market.

Here are some reasons for the car diesel disadvantages.

1-Diesel engines are dirty and do not meet Federal standards, let alone many States because of all the MPG legislation and stronger emission rates in the US.
2-I only see diesel pumps in very random and few places here in So.Cal.
3- Diesel is more expensive than 87 octane here in So.Cal
4-Diesel engines will have to be nerfed in power and torque to be fuel efficient and better emissions.
5-Diesel technology is expensive, therefore diesel engines are also. I read this article in Car and Drive about reintroducing diesel engines to the American market. The specs for the vehicle were weak and the cost high. =(

Also, you see our big rigs use diesel and also a very few amount of big cab trucks because diesel gives more torque than power. The major problem about these "work horses" is because.....

Department of Motor Vehicles charge more money because it's a work-vehicle if powered by diesel and it's a truck, in California the registration is higher regardless if it's diesel or not so long the truck is listed as work-vehicle. =(

Conclusion.

Though Indian vehicles are better than Chinese, it'l never survive the Western market for long without a lot of costly changes, even if India's economy has "cheaper" labor than USA the American car buyers still will not purchase the car if not assembled in USA and will never buy a Chinese car. LMFAO. Do you see the products they make? They hardly last long and just bad. That's just another story.

Sorry for long story but to compare to countries products than you'll have to compare them to the leading country's industry before assessing. By comparison, India vehicles are better constructed, less pollutant, a bit better mileage, but will all become obsolete soon and big waste for designing diesel engines since they'll never be efficient. =(

When buying a new car, can I get a recent college grad rebate with a diploma mill degree?

mastafunk

I want to get that $1000 back from Toyota for the college grad rebate, but I graduated over 2 years ago so I don't qualify. Terms and conditions say that you must graduate within the last 2 years from an accredited institution. I'm looking at buying a "life experience degree" for $150 from a website that claims accreditation from World Online Education Accrediting Commission (used by multiple diploma mills). They are not recognized by the US Dept. of Education, however, there are no US laws regulating or preventing independent accrediting agencies. My feeling is that since they give no details on who must accredit the institution, any accreditation should work. Does anyone have experience with trying this? Anyone work at a dealership have insight?

I want to buy my first car but financially smart?

Q. You see I'm a full-time student going to college and I work too. I have an income of a little over $500 a month. And I'm planning on buying a car to move back and forth. I have a $1000.00 saved but I'm unsure if I should buy a used or new car. Right now, my sister is sharing her car with me, but honestly, its a pain.

I've been checking on my credit score and its a 665, which is "average", but I'm not satisfied with it since I used to have a over 710.

I want a new car but I dont want to a high interest rate. At first, I was thinking of saving money at least 5,000 to 7,000 dollars and going to a dealer an just saying okay I have this amount of cash what kind of deal can I get, you know. But that would be pretty stupid for me since they can higher the price on the car.

If you have any advice, personal experinces you can share with me, I would appreciate it alot. Thanks.

I need info on a car for sale?

hpadilla

and the seller is asking me for a yahoo ID

Answer
Sounds to me like You are in the midst of a scam.

The car was on Craigslist, AutoTrader or some other classified website.

the car was priced well below others of the same yr/make/model
The owner is out of the country - or at least across country from you
There is a long story about why it is so cheap (job transfer, divorce, dead uncle).
He is offering to ship the car for free
You will use "Yahoo Finance" to conduct the transaction so that you are "safe"
You will transfer money to this bullshit Yahoo agent
They hold the money until the car gets there.
You have 3/5/10/14 days to inspect it.
If you accept the car, notify the Agent and he releases money to the seller
If you refuse the car you get all the money back
If you refuse the car, the seller will pay for return shipping.

Right?

read this forum. Look at how many times this is asked and answered.
Yahoo NEVER handles money

You have to use your head.

please help car situation?

ugh so my friend went into a car dealership, just got two jobs, can make her payments with out a problem and she said she worked for 6 months at both when she is just starting. well she is new at this and they told her they wanted pay stubs. she wants this vehicle and she has gone through every boulder in her way, and than she filled out paper work just seeing what they would say and they entered that info. she just got off of unemployment and can make the payments that the dealership got to. how does she go about bringing the vehicle back and telling them that she lied and hasnt started work yet but can make the payments???????
she is 20 years old but only had a credit score of 662 so she needed a co signer any ways
the car isn't hers yet, they think she has been employed 6 months with her job but she hasn't started yet. how does she go about telling them that??

Answer
She already has possession of the car? The deal has gone through? She cant take the car back : the car company does not care she cant make the payments. They have been paid through the finance company and no longer have any interest in the car. The finance company is interested in knowing her work situation, and if she can afford the payments.
While lying *could* void the contract in their view, they would much rather have the money than the car. If she can make the payments, then just keep making them, and they will be happy.

If they have already run her credit, (score 662), and want her to have a cosigner, she may want to vaguely say "there might be a discrepancy in her length of employment." If her cosigner has good credit, they probably wont care. A cosigner is a co-borrower, just as responsible in making sure the loan is paid as is the primary borrower. All they are interested in is making the sale. After signing the papers, the dealer is content. They are paid.

reg on new car ???

Q. i just bought a new car on nov 15th and my reg tags still havent came in i been to the dealer 2 times to get new temp plates put on..they looked up the reg tags and it said its been printed on nov 29th and i still havent gotin it in the mail ...has any one had this problem??

Answer
YES! I am actually still having a problem with it even though i purchased my car almost 2 months ago- the problem is sometimes they need more information from you, so until they get all the info they cant process the transaction. You should call the dealership where you got your car, and make sure that everything is going smoothly on their side... Good luck!

Zap Xebra Electric?

Marton V

Does anyone else own a Zap Xebra electric car? What have your experiences been with it?

Answer
I am an electric car owner - though I don't have a ZAP.

It should be relatively trouble free. It uses sealed lead-acid batteries. The ZAP only goes 40mph, so you'll probably have to stay off the freeways. The good news is the price - it only costs $10,000.

The best part when you own an electric car, is you never have to visit a gas station. Electricity to charge our car only costs a penny or two per mile.

What is the lighest car?

Q.

Answer
Excluding college cars that are made for solar power, human power etc.

I would have to say it is the Zap car.

Whats the best way to drive from LA to NY?

I have an Australian licence (i will get an international licence if i go to USA)
i am 31 yrs old, so can i use a rental car? is it expensive to have the car for about 20 days?

Answer
Car rentals are usually by the week, so you will maximize your value if you rent for 21 days. One-way rentals are often more expensive than the cheap rates advertised for returning to the same location. And some rental companies restrict where you can drive. Plan on spending a lot of time on rental car websites, and be sure to read the fine print for restrictions.

You will have to balance the size of the car with fuel economy. Bigger cars cost more to rent and will use more gasoline, but will give you more space inside.

The Collision Damage Waiver can cost almost as much as the rental itself. The folks at the rental counter will really push it. Find out before you go if your insurance will cover you, or if using your credit card will give your insurance on a rental car. If you have other insurance that is good in the U.S., you can skip the CDW. Check what rental companies charge for the CDW and other add-ons when you compare prices.

Check to see if your automobile club has reciprocal arrangements with the American Automobile Association. If so, you might be able to get free maps from AAA offices when you get here. Get the info in writing in case the clerk who serves you doesn't know all their policies.

As others have said, when you get to the big eastern cities, transit is good and the car isn't necessary. If you time things right, you can get rid of the car when you arrive in NYC and have your last few days on foot, subway, and taxi.

The contiguous U.S. states are roughly the size of Australia, so you are looking at a drive equivalent to going from Sydney to Perth. You couldn't see every corner of Australia in three weeks, so you won't be able to see everything of interest in the U.S., either.

Go for a balance of cities, history, and natural wonders. The mountains out west are twice the height of the mountains in the east, but even in the east you can find nice scenery.

Try to do most of your driving by daylight so you can see more. The Interstate Highway System will get you places quickly, but if you want to experience places get off onto the old U.S. Highways that go through towns rather than around them.

As someone else mentioned, many of the small towns in the midwest and plains states have a city park where you can stop for a picnic lunch, or diners on Main Street (High Street) where you can experience local food. You can eat at McDonald's anywhere in the world, and you can find them all over the U.S., but you probably want to experience more than fast food while you are here.

Even the plains states in the middle have a lot to see. For example, in Nebraska you have the historic Oregon Trail near Scotts Bluff, the busiest railroad line in the world for train spotters, a half-kilometer long bridge almost a hundred meters over the Niobrara River along the Cowboy Line trail in northern Nebraska, and a world-class zoo in Omaha.

June through August are the peak travel months in much of the U.S. It's northern hemisphere summer, and schools are on summer break. Accommodations at some national parks book up early during the summer, so you might need to do some advance planning. You might consider traveling in May or September when the popular parks won't be as crowded, but the weather will be good. If you travel between November and March you will need to keep an eye on the weather forecast for snow, particularly in the mountain passes in the west.

Remember we drive on the other side of the road.

Have fun.

In a famous scene in the movie Enter the Dragon Bruce Lee describes his fighting style as the art of âfighting without fightingâ, (jitkondo). Strange and paradoxical as it may seem, that is precisely what Gandhijiâs ahimsa is all about!
Resistance without the violence, verbal, emotional or physical is more potent than all the nuclear weapons on the planet. In a similar way, competing without competing is far more powerful than overt, aggressive, âin your faceâ competition that is so prevalent today.
Preoccupation With External World
Our attention, all too often, is fixed on the external world. We are transfixed by stimuli from the Net, news sources, peers, competitors, friends, family⦠the list is endless. We are forever busy answering phone calls and emails, attending meetings and reviews, travelling mentally and physically, by car, train and aircraft.
We are hurtling like asteroids through space trailing a cloud of cosmic dust in our wake. Debris of all kinds follows us: hurt feelings, broken relationships, oversized CO{-2} footprintsâ¦.In all this frenetic action the real person inside is forgotten.
So much so that we donât even know who we really are. Only a superficial concept of ourselves as a bundle of specific skills and attitudes, position and personality remains. We operate out of that superficial concept and understanding and so get snagged even more on the outcroppings of the external world.
Since we have not mastered the art of introspection and contemplation we are unfamiliar with the internal mindscape. Itâs unfamiliar and scary territory so we revert to the familiar hurly burly of the external world. In the process we perpetuate our engagement outside, with all its attendant misery.
Understanding the Internal Mindscape
When we spend more time and effort on understanding our internal mindscape the territory becomes more familiar; we then discover capabilities that have remained unnoticed and dormant.
Every one of us possesses infinite endowments; however we have to dive deep down and expend effort to identify, understand and use them. This is something that our spiritual heritage has enjoined us to do.
Practitioners of the ancient Sidha Yoga tradition of Tamil Nadu, notably Boganathar, were, for example, said to have mastered the art of immortality through a combination of meditation, bhakti, yoga, kaya kalpa and alchemy. In fact, their detailed writings serve as a self-development manual for any aspirant wiling to invest the effort.
Scale of Life
Every one of us lives on what I call the Scale of Life; scales vary from person to person and therefore are not comparable.
So benchmarking ourselves against others is not really a productive exercise simply because the combination and interaction of tangible and intangible parameters in every individualâs life is qualitatively different.
On the surface level many people may seem to be âsuccessfulâ but there are so many facets of their lives that are unknown to us that may be beset with innumerable sorrows.
Complete data can never be available to validate an accurate or comprehensive comparison of our respective lives. We can and must, however, learn from the lives of others.
Competing without competing is all about focusing energy and attention inwards to discover and utilise our true capabilities. We must learn to identify our own scale and constantly move up on it. Let me explain. All of us have some dim and hazy idea of our own Ideal Self, the perfect person weâd like to become.
This Ideal Self encompasses the physical, emotional, intellectual, behavioural, and financial aspects of ourselves.
We can visualise this Ideal Self by iterative practice. Suppose we allocate a score of 10 (perfect) on a 10 point scale to that Ideal Self. If 10 is our Ideal, what score are we at now? Suppose we are at four currently; our task and indeed the focal point of our life is to move from four towards 10 on our own Scale of Life.
Moving Up The Scale of Life
Moving up the scale entails inward focus. That means we look at ourselves continuously and identify our strengths and weakness, a kind of deep and profound SWOT. By watching and observing ourselves and our behaviour we learn to balance ourselves.
By listing and then eliminating negative thoughts and emotions we detox ourselves from within. Meditation and chanting the mahamantra are tools designed specifically for this purpose. We then discover patience and draw new insights. Our sixth sense develops. We transform into positive and productive beings. Thatâs when our interface with the external world becomes positive and fruitful. In high pressure confrontations we are calm and able to respond effectively. We become capable of nurturing long-term relationships. We become teachable and so learn every minute from every experience instead of being bogged down by emotion and pain.
We are continuously polishing ourselves by dusting off negatives and thereby gleam like diamonds in the light of the external world. In short, we become the best we can be. In my book, that is the definition of success. All else is ephemeral and irrelevant; we simply have to strive towards the Ideal Self.
Competition Withers Away
When we traverse this path on our own Scale of Life, many doors open, within and without. We enter realms of success that we never thought possible. Possibility thinking becomes a way of life and so success feeds on success as we ascend the scale. We are really competing with ourselves instead of anyone else. And so, when we find ourselves in the fray with others, our capabilities are so complete and formidable that the competition, like the ideal Marxian state, withers away.
Introspection, contemplation, internal practice and personal visioning guarantee victory by helping us compete without competing. This is what Krishna exhorts Arjuna to do: sukha dukhe same kritva, labha alabhau, jaya ajayau, tato yudhaya yudhasva, naivam paapamavapsyasi: victory is assured and no sin accrues if you compete by holding yourself in internal balance.

Is Credit Karma and Quizzle useless?

Q. I have used Credit Karma for a while now and loved it. That is until I went to lower the interest rate on my vehicle. Same with Quizzle. I have been rebuilding my credit and my husband has been doing the same. Last year we bought a brand new car. It is a little to soon to refinance but we went down to see if we could lower the interest rate and get our payments lowered. I have been monitoring our credit and according to Credit Karma it had improved a lot and was pretty good. Go down there and we cant. They use equifax to determine credit and our equifax score was way lower than credit karma which uses transunion. Quizzle uses experian. Is there any use to use these two? Everywhere I have applied for credit used equifax. Why even bother with them?

Answer
CreditKarma and Quizzle do not give you actual FICO scores. They are both Fakko scores. CreditKarma is generally within 50 points of your FICO. These sites only give you a general idea of how your credit/score is doing.

Not all creditors report to all three credit bureaus. Since the credit bureaus were once regional, certain areas of the country tend to use one credit bureau more than the others. You may want to pull your actual credit reports (AnnualCreditReport.com) and see what shows on each. If the same info shows on your Equifax and TransUnion reports, the CreditKarma score should be within 50 points of your FICO for either one. But it is very possible that the reports are different and that could mean a huge diffference in scores.

What's the best used car to get for $3500?

Q. So I'm only 15 and turning 16 pretty soon and my parents are letting me pick out a car and I have absolutely no clue what to buy within my price range that's also very efficient. I've heard Honda and Toyota is exceptionally reliable and doesn't break down as easily. So what's the best model and make that's also very cheap but yet runs really well?
Also can you give me some tips on negotiating a good price with the dealer?

Answer
Use an Edmunds: http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/best-used-cars.html

i want a really cheap car, new?

oam

it has to be reliable, prob a small car, cheap, and new

Answer
I rank and review vehicles for U.S. News and Iâd suggest checking out a Honda Civic, Honda Fit or Mazda3.

All three options are priced around the same, give or take different trim levels, options and upgrades.

If youâre looking for a small affordable car with a stellar reliability reputation, the Civic takes it. It has a dependable reputation and comes with competitive warranty coverage. Itâs also has a smooth four-cylinder, precise handling and good interior quality, all at great value. If you're concerned about fuel economy, the Civic also delivers.

The Honda Fit is a solid compact car option, with even more interior cargo space flexibility and also carries Honda's reliability reputation.

The Mazda3 has a stylish exterior design and a sporty drive with a bit more performance than the previous mentions.

All three options are small affordable cars. Hope this helps!

what are the odds of someone escaping the police in a car chase?

i remember seeing a car chase on cnn headline news or msnbc where they were following a silver sedan and lost it on the highway for about 20 mins because there were similar makes out there, but i do think they got the license plate, if they didnt could someone get away like that? especially if they planned it out to have decoys around that area at the predetermined time? of course thats not too realistic considering most police chases tend to happen after an unintentional hit and run but what do you think how often do people get away,

they also mentioned people on motorcycles have a better shot because of the manueverability and of course the size, but not too many hit and runs with motorcycles i guess
i think the news channels are really stupid to first of all show the chases, for a number of reasons, and then on top of that to give out tips to possible escapees, and what not,
considering the increased number of bank robberies were seeing in the US and the panicked decision making that comes into play after you strike someone with your vehicle, sometimes vehicular manslaughter can be a heavy price to pay
colt - i was more interested in writing some fiction about it

and matt - man the helicopter was the one that lost the silver sedan, it was pathetic, the guy was following the wrong car for awhile, i was almost awestruck at their incompetance, but then again considering the recent chopper crash, i guess he didnt do so bad

Answer
In most cases my department does not chase a person who fled from a traffic stop, hit and run suspects, and absolutely not on a motorcycle unless a violent felony occurred. Half the time we won't chase stolen cars either because it is considered stolen property in the eyes of the state. We do chase for violent felonies, and if an officer was injured during the incident. Usually we just get the tag, do a report, and seize the tag later. And if we know who the driver is we do a complaint affidavit to have a warrant put out for the subjects arrest. Helicopter operators have a harder time keeping up with a vehicle around increased traffic. Lots of cars, and they have to go by size and color to figure out which car they are going to be following. They have cameras they can zoom in on the subject with but that can be difficult.

Did anybody watch a car chase in LA on yesterday's news?

Q. Do you remember what kind of car it was they were chasing? What model I mean? I'm just curious because they kept commenting on how well it was doing in spite of driving over spikes and assorted other damage, and it really looked like it was handling well, all things considered. (Not that I'm an expert on such things.)

Answer
I believe it was a Nissan Maxima.

Designing cars as a career?

Q. A few questions:
What courses would I need to do at college (obviously design) what else? how would you even apply for a job doing something like this? what is involved in the job? would this be the sort of job youd train for but find hard to get into?

Automotive engineering technology coursework typically begins with computer-aided drafting and design classes, followed by discussions of materials, systems diagnoses and design strategies. Most programs culminate with students designing their own vehicle components or completing an internship with an automotive engineer. Possible course offerings include:

Calculus
Physics
Computer-aided drafting
Computer-aided design
Design materials
Manufacturing design
Interior design
Engine design
Metallurgy

Automotive Designer Job Duties

Automotive Designers use sketches, models and prototypes from their knowledge of engineering principles to draft layouts and drawings of automobile components, assemblies and systems. Automotive Designers develop innovative designs for automobiles that fit consumerâs needs and that reflect a companyâs image and values by basing their results from calculations, mathematical formulas and computerized work aids. Automotive Designers will collaborate with automotive engineers to determine factors that may affect design proposals by using previous car models and understanding manufacturing limitations.

Automotive Designers Career Outlook

Automotive Designers need to expect tough competition in this industry due to an increasing demand for highly technical and fuel-efficient automobiles. Automotive Designers average annual salary reported in 2006 was $54,560, while California, Massachusetts and Michigan showed the highest annual salary to be in the range of $71,350 to $77,320, which was reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov. According to the BLS, industrial design positions are expected to increase by 7% in the year 2016.

Automotive Designer Educational Prerequisites

To enter the Automotive Design career, you must obtain either an Associates of Science in Automotive Design or a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design or a similar degree. Relevant coursework from institutions accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, provide relevant courses such as, mathematics, physical science, engineering, manufacturing methods, industrial materials, computer-aided design, sketching and other related courses. Many programs may offer internships for Automotive Designers, according to Car Design News, www.cardesignnews.com, at car companies where part-time work is available which allows potential employees to gain valuable experience.

Finding a cars resonance 10 Points!?

Q. I'm a big car audio person and people always tell me for best db's I should tune the box my subs are in to the same freq. my cars is. How can I do that? How can you find a cars resonance (Most likely what hertz your cars tuned to) please leave helpful info

BTW:10 POINTS!!!

"Hope This Helped"

Answer
Get a 10" or 12" sub in a 1 cubic foot sealed box and a dB meter, and find a test CD that does sine sweeps or bass tests. Then note the frequency which gets you the highest reading.

The other way would be to measure the distance from the windshield to the back of the car (in feet), and take 1130/(2 x that distance). If the number is over 100 then divide by 2 until it's below that. So if the inside was 8 ft from front to rear it would be 70.6 Hz, but I've heard different opinions on that method.

Need help car problem read info ?

Q. It is a 95 dodge neon it almost turns over has gas could it be the spark plugs or just because it is cold any guesses on what it could be and how to fix it

Answer
sounds like a battery problem. Check the voltage with a volt meter it should be around 12-13 volts with the car off. Also check if your headlights dim when you try to turn on the car. You might need to replace the battery.

MY first CAR HELP!!!!?

Q. ok i'm 17 and i'm about to buy a used car. everyone tells me that honda accords are great and i want one. i found this particular one, tell me what you think

HONDA ACCORD 1989-$980
200,000 MILES

what do you think? is this a good choice? is there anything you recommend? please help me!!!!!

Answer
Hey congratulations on your first car!!
I think I got mine around that age and it was the exact same car you're looking at only it had more miles on it. My aunt gave it to my sister and me.

Anyway, I think that it's a great car to have, especially as your first vehicle. I'm not saying this because I had one and I'm tooting my own horn, or Honda's horn for that matter, but for the mere fact that I was T-boned IN this car by a woman in a Toyota Corolla going 55 mph, and this car saved my life.

The doors are not plastic, they're heavy duty made of metal, will rust of you scratch them kind of doors, not like on new cars now that if a shopping cart bumps it, you'll have a big ol $5000 dent. No.
The on scene officers and ambulatory crew told me that the car saved my life because the car doors took the majority of the damage, and although my head did slam into the driver window, I was not ejected from the vehicle. (Always wear your seat belt!!!)
Mine was dark grey LXi, and my cousin had tinted the windows pretty dark... and put a system in it lol...

Anyway, if you can get the vehicle identification number (VIN) and pop it into Car Fax (http://www.carfax.com) it will tell you what accidents or issues have been reported with that vehicle. (Be sure that you get the VIN down correctly, and once you type it in, BE SURE that the VIN report that comes up is indeed for a 1989 Honda Accord.). You'll want to pay attention to the mileage for any events on the report and make sure they are in order (that the mileage wasn't twittered with). You will have to pay for this report, but it is worth it.

Also be sure to check out Kelly Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com) to see what the private sale value for the car is based on what the body is like, and input info about any mechanical defects or paint issues, etc. And you can take these numbers when you're buying, assuming it is a private sale, to negotiate with the seller. If the numbers on KBB are higher than what the car is being advertised/sold for, then you can rightly assume that it may have some mechanical or cosmetic issues and that the seller has already tried to account for these issues in the price. (Still doesn't mean you shouldn't go there with your best bargaining face on though.)

You did not mention if the seller has informed you if it is in pretty good mechanical condition or not. I certainly hope it is. And to be sure that you do NOT get ripped off, the seller should NOT have a problem with you taking the car to your mechanic (or the dealership for $80) to have it fully inspected, and may even go along with you. If the sale is not "AS-IS" (meaning take it or leave it, if it dies on the way home that's your problem once you drive off my property and/or hand over the money) then you can negotiate a lower price based on the mechanics findings.

Obviously it won't be in PERfect condition, but it will give you an idea of what to expect with the car, and actually the mechanic can tell you flat out whether or not he thinks you should buy it or not based on his or her findings.

Oh and another thing to be very weary of is rust. Because it's not an all plastic vehicle (lol), these particular Accords can get some major rust if not taken care of. If you happen to notice any rust around the front window or any other part of the frame of the vehicle, it's a good idea to take a pass on it, because rust repair is VERY expensive. And if it is anywhere near the frame, the integrity of the vehicle structure has been compromised, and honestly if you were my brother or son or whatever, I wouldn't want you rollin in a car with a damaged frame. It will not protect you well in the event of an accident and will make the ride less enjoyable also (as a side note).

Oh and insurance was VERY manageable for that aged vehicle and my age (no accidents, and a fresh drivers license). I had a $10/hr job and my mom added me to her AAA and I paid her for it. Sometimes I only paid half though because I worked part time, and she let me keep some money to get my school supplies and stuff too as well as lunches at school too.

Congratulations on the car though and good luck!!
