What does the Taiwanese think of filipinos?

If you've heard of the news about a philippine coast guard accidentally shot a 65 year old fisherman then you'll answer this. I want to hear from them bad or good comments as long as you wont break the community guidelines

Answer
1. When after you fired more than 50 bullets into a fishing boat, shot and killed a 65 years old fisherman and you flee the scene, it's not an "accident" in the court of laws. We need to clarify this first.

Filipino government of course, intended to frame it as "accident". Then without avail, it's changed to "unintended". So you see, even Filipino government as of May 22, would not call it an accident.

2. There have been fake posts on internet for how Taiwanese didn't sell lunch box to Filipino workers. Those posts have been proven fake posts. One Filipino post took PRC riot photo and say it's in Taiwan towards Filipino workers, then it started spread on internet. I don't know what people are trying to do. But the point is you need to leave regular people out of this.

There have been Filipino posted things attacking ethnicity. This doesn't do anyone any good. We are not in all out war why do we have to create hatreds around? And the ethnicity attacks won't and never solve any problem, and would only create more problems.

3. There have been posts keep on wanting to mislead people for the location of shooting. Many Filipino people do not understand the differences between "territory waters", and "economic zone". But then keep on saying Taiwanese fishing boat was in Filipino territory waters. People, it's internet era and you're on internet. It's so easy to look up these definitions.

There is a large overlap of economic zone between Taiwan and Philippines. There was prior treaty until in 198x Filipino threw away the treaty because money issue. The negotiation has been dragged on without results. It's disputed area.

4. People use water cannons or arrests for protecting their fishing rights, not bullets.

Even after Cuban missile crisis, when Cuba boats come to US shore, there are arrests made but never shooting at boat/people.

The Mexican dug tunnels or climbed wall getting into US. They are not shot at.

Filipino coastguard's shooting is in violation of international laws. And the fishing boat wasn't in Filipino "territory waters" as claimed.

5. For years, Filipino coastguards take money from Taiwanese fishing boats: minimum USD $10K cash on spot at the high seas, or otherwise take the fishing boat to Filipino shores for taking all the fish, strip out equipment, and ask for a lot more money from the families.

In 2004, one Taiwanese fisherman was shot and killed by Filipino.

In 2006, Filipino policemen shot and killed one Taiwanese fisherman and wounded another one. There were joint investigation by the two countries, and the Filipino culprits are still at large today.

6. At the same time, for years, Taiwan has been donating to disaster relieves to the Philippines. There were donation of money, food, medical equipment, computers, even entire warehouse, and buses. There were donation of ambulances and police motorcycles. Tzu Chi foundation has been there helping out for many years.

Taiwan's Red Cross Society is currently helping its Filipino counterpart to set up water purifiers in disaster areas in the Philippines with funds raised by the Taiwanese public.

Taiwan also provided technology transfer in area such as modern corn cultivation, duck production, farm animal diseases diagnostic technology, orange diseases prevention, insecticide quick-test technology, preservation of local and native produces DNA and related tests, etc.

7. The international community has been looking at the development of this incident (not accident). People start to understand the truth. Filipino government has been doing "used car sales tactics" for a few days, but truth will come out and humanity will prevail. US congress including senate and house have been urging Filipino government to sincerely apologize to Taiwan.

How to find t in a compound interest equation? Different form of the original, includes k?

silk

The equation is B = {A[(1+r/n)^nt -1}/1-(1+r/n)^-n/k.
I know that finding the equation for t (all the other variables are solved for) involves using natural log (ln), but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Anybody help?

Please give me examples of the applications of aerodynamics in our daily life.?

car news concept on 2013 new cars, new cars 2013, Italian sports cars | Car News ...
car news concept image
Q. Also, if better, include how the concepts of it is used to improve our way of life.

The most examples with sheer clarity will be chosen as the best answer. All submissions regarding this question is fully appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Nearly everything is designed for aerodynamic use, especially automobiles and other forms of transportation.

All cars, planes, trains, trucks, and bicycles are designed to have less drag. Even bicycle helmets are designed this way. Less air friction means better gas mileage for you, and with the increasing gas prices, that is quite a good thing.

They have desgined semis that are 50% more efficient than the ones you currently see today, because they are more aerodynamic. Unfortunately, we haven't seen them put into production yet. They do look pretty futuristic in comparison though.

Recently, an engineer built a hybrid car off a light airplane base, it's so aerodynamic and fuel efficient that it gets 300 mpg. You may of seen it in Yahoo! News, it's a great example of aerodynamics.

Have you seen a news story featuring concept cars of the past?

felines

Really very interesting. I was particularly struck by the fact that plexiglas was invented in the '30s. It is the component used in the windshield of Amelia Earhart's plane. On a South Pacific island they have found some that is the thickness and curvature of her windshield.
It was an Internet news story early Wednesday. I think you could look it up by googling "concept cars of the past"

The Amelia Earhart article was a week or so ago. I particularly remembered the plexiglas mention and was puzzled, because I thought it was a later development.

Answer
Which news story? I've read many old car books with the Concept cars, and yes, many had or used Plexiglas in the construction. Haven't heard any news stories on TV lately of the old show cars.

Where is the article about the future of multi-level trains in Asia that was on Y!News recently?

kee

I spotted an article about a possible train (maybe hi-speed) that's designed to straddle a highway. The origin maybe Japan or China, but the point is that you can see train cover the entire highway, with the cars passing through underneath. The image was more like a colored sketch.

Could you provide the link to that article and image because I'm having trouble finding them? The article was seen via the Yahoo! home page this month, but the story may not have originated through Yahoo.

Serious answers only, please.

Answer
Yahoo nicked the story of these guys, who also nicked it but credited their sources.
It's a bus opposed to a train, but it is on rails.

What is the plot of the movie TITANIC?

Courtney

I am gonna go see TITANIC in 3D and I keep seeing scenes but I don't what order they go in. DON'T BE AFRAID to be a spoiler. THATS what I want! just tell me all the scenes and the sad parts. :) thanks!

Answer
The movie starts off in present day with divers exploring the Titanic and looking for the legendary Heart of the Ocean necklace which is worth millions upon millions of dollars. During a dive where they are expecting to find the necklace they instead unearth a nude drawing (kept preserved by a safe). The drawing ends up on the news and an old woman recognizes it as a drawing of herself. She gets in contact with the head of the expedition and they fly her out when she claims she is Rose Dewitt Bukater. This is important because Rose was engaged to Cal Hockley when the Titanic sank and Cal had supposedly bought the priceless necklace for Rose. They doubt her at first and so she explains the story of her experience on Titanic which is when they go into flashback. Rose was originally from money but when her father died they became buried in debt and she is being forced by her mother into marrying Cal so her family will be tied to his wealth. Jack Dawson is a poor man who wins his tickets onto Titanic during a card game five minutes before it leaves. One night Rose has enough and goes to kill herself by jumping off the back of the boat. Jack sees her and talks her down but she slips while trying to climb over and he saves her. When others arive they think Jack was attacking her but she quickly sets the record straight. After that Rose and Jack seem to gravitate toward one another. Cal catches on to their feelings and at breakfast one morning throws the table over and forbids her to see him anymore. She eventually doesn't care anymore and goes to him where the legendary scene takes place on the front of the boat with Rose saying "I'm flying Jack!" Rose asks Jack to draw her nude wearing only the necklace. After she puts the necklace and the drawing in Cal's safe with a note that says "Now you can keep us both locked in your safe." She leaves with Jack and is chased by Cal's men and some crew. They hide in storage and make love inside a car that is stored on the ship. Later on the deck they witness the iceberg hit and return to check on her mother. Cal has called the on board authorities and claimed his necklace has been stolen. Cal's main man plants the necklace on Jack and he is arrested. Soon they realize the ship is sinking and Rose runs from Cal to free Jack. She finds him in the flooding rooms below and uses an axe to free his cuffs. They head back to the top where Rose is placed in a lifeboat but Cal and Jack are denied because only socialite women and children are being evacuated at this time. Cal assures her that he has a boat for Jack and him and they will get off. While being lowered Cal tells Jack he has a boat for him but Jack will not be on it. Jack looks down at Rose and when she sees him she knows she can't leave him. She jumps from the boat back onto Titanic and Jack runs to her. Cal chases them and shoots at them but they get away. They escape down below and help the poor people escape from steerage and head back above. Cal uses a child to lie his way onto a boat so he escapes. Rose and Jack are on the ship when it goes dow. They find a piece of debrie floating in the water but it cannot support them both so Rose gets on while Jack remain in the water. When a lifeboat comes back hours later Rose attempts to wake up Jack but he is dead, his grip frozen to hers. She lays back down to die with him but then remembers she promised him she's survive and go on. She pulls free and he sinks and she swims to a dead crew member and blows his whistle, alerting the lifeboat to her presence. Later on the other ship that picks them up Cal comes looking for Rose but she hides from him. A crew member comes and asks for her name and she says Rose Dawson, taking on Jack's last name. Back in present day she tells the expedition crew "Now you know there was a man named Jack Dawson and he saved me, in everyway a person can be saved." She later wakes up in the middle of the night and reveals she still has the diamond necklace. She tosses it back in the ocean without ever telling anyone she even had it. She dies that night in her bed. It then cuts to a scene of Rose and Jack reunited in the main hall of Titanic with the ghosts of all the others who had died, applauding as Rose and Jack kiss.

Why do vegetarians have 5 higher IQ on average & live better?

FruityDrea

Also higher social class. I agree with that. All the Vegetarians & Vegans I know have very good jobs & worth millions. My vegetarian sister makes 100k+. I have 3 paid off houses at age 23. My Vegan friend has a 5million dollar house & other Vegans I've met have high end cars & dress like their rich so I wonder why. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6180753.stm
@kristi, yes you're right, I research often & when I get together with my Vegan friend first things we discuss is what new things we discovered & researched.

Answer
Veganism does not make us rich, successful, and smart. Veganism makes us a friend for the animals. That's all.

This kind of attitude does nothing for the billions of animals in slaughterhouses, abattoirs, and factory farms. This kind of elitism only stands in the way of making veganism a realistic lifestyle for the masses.

Answer
I am french and muslims burn more than 300 cars each night in my country.
They have the lowest education and the highest crime rate among all immigrants , asians, east europeans... However they benefit from a kind of affirmaive action here and they have free education and free healthcare.
I think the problem with muslims is that you worship a pedophile mass murder and sex obsessed prophet.

And if you want to speak about tolerance , are you aware that coptic chrisitans in Egypt live like jews in a nazi country.
In Saudi Arabia if you own a Bible you are sentenced to capital punishment, in Palestine the christians were wipped off and the media keep talking about "poor muslim palestians".
In Darfour thousand and thousands of christians were killed by mulsims.
Yes Muslims are terrorists , I agree with that, and you better stop praising a fake god and a fake prophet.

Do batteries last longer when you let them die before you charge them again?

Maddox

I have argued this to death with my boyfriend. I know it's silly but I want to know the answer.

My boyfriend refuses to recharge electrical devices (iPods, cell phones, etc.) until the battery dies completely. He claims that the battery will last longer if this is done. I tell him it doesn't make any difference. Can anyone confirm or deny his theory?

Answer
I've been a TV broadcast engineer working with portable news equipment since the 1970's. For consumers, the 'charge memory' has been pretty much a myth. It's true enough, but under very limited conditions that consumers rarely see. And with NiCd's being pretty much obsolete, the current NiMh batteries don't suffer such problems. Nor do Lithium-Ion batteries. The problem occurred from cadmium crystals which don't exist in todays batteries. No cadmium.

There is also a populat myth that partial charges equal full charges, and a battery has a finite number of those charges. But, that number is an average. In the U.S., the 'average' age for men is 77 years old. But that's including everyone who's murdered, killed in car accidents, and dies at childbirth, along with Bryant Gumbal's interminable 120-year-old grandmothers.

So, if the average life expetancy is 77, and the average hearbeat is 60 per minute, then a person has roughly 41 million heartbeats in his life. Running or exercising, which makes your heart beat faster, does NOT use up your life faster.

Same with batteries. Recharging them more often does not use them up faster. It's an AVERAGE. What DOES use them up faster is running them as low as possible. Also, slamming fast charges into them uses up life. Like running until you puke, and then keep running some more. Your heart isn't using up beats, it's just giving out with a heart attack. And lastly, leaving it charging long after it's fully charged is not helpful.

I charge my cellphone every night. My mp3 player, I DO wait until the battery stops and then put in another one while I recharge the first one. They've lasted for years. There are so many more factors that will affect the lifespan of rechargeable batteries than the charging method.

Take my word for it or not, but I have a degree, certifications, and professional licenses, which a salesman at Radio Shack is extremely unlikely to possess.

Edit: Just thinking, let me add a point that a non-engineer can see. Do you know what your car battery does? It doesn't run the car. It just runs the starter. Once your car is running, the battery is no longer needed. But it took some of the battery charge to start your car. So the car's charging system recharges the battery. It does this everytime you operate your car. In fact, it's downright harmful to your car battery to let it die out before recharging it. The more you do that, the more harmful it becomes. But think about it, as long as you aren't having electrical problems in your car, how often do you have to replace the battery, even though it recharges after every single use?

How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?

car pollution info on Cars And Air Pollution Illustration - 27577468 : Shutterstock
car pollution info image

donna bell

I have always been sensitive to air pollution, smoke, dust, pollen and other things that trigger asthma. How can I help myselfwith asthma attacks?

Answer
Do not smoke or allow smoking in your home - Babies exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to get asthma. If a woman is exposed to tobacco smoke during pregnancy, her baby may also be more likely to get asthma.

If animal dander is a problem for you, keep your pet out of the house or at least out of your bedroom, or find it a new home.

If pollen is a problem for you, if possible, stay indoors with the air conditioner on, when the pollen count is high. Do not run the air-conditioning, whether in car or indoors, on the setting that draws in outside air and cools it. Outside air brings with it pollen, and cool, pollinated air is bad for asthma.

To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys once a week in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows.

If cold air bothers you, wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in the winter.

There are a number of highly effective herbal and homeopathic remedies that may be used for the successful treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Depending on the severity of the asthma, natural remedies can either reduce or completely eliminate the need for the synthetic drugs and are often used in conjunction with conventional medications as a part of a holistic treatment plan.

Herbal ingredients such as Matricaria recutita and Astralagus are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, while homeopathic ingredients such as Mag. Phos. and Nat. Sulph are successful at easing chest and throat constriction and soothing mucous membranes while reducing the presence of phlegm in the chest. Used regularly, natural remedies can help improve respiratory health, reduce the incidence and severity of asthma attacks while strengthening the immune system.

You may get detailed info on the above here http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/a/asthma.htm

What is your opinion? Should I buy a hybrid or a regular car?

yakngirl

My considerations-
Pros: Better for the environment and save money on gas
Con: Gas savings not significant enough to warrant the higher price tag.
I need a new car now, but keep delaying the purchase as I vacillate between hybrid or regular.

Answer
FYI

Toyota makes all Hybrids.

Some Info:
Advantages of a Hybrid Car

There are many advantages, firstly that they save gas. Merging the cleaner energy of an electric motor with the capacity of a gasoline engine allows a hybrid car to save as much as 30 miles a gallon. They are also environmentally friendly, giving out lower toxic emissions compared to conventional gas cars due to less gasoline being burned. It is environmentally friendly, and causes less pollution. Less carbon dioxide is also released into the atmosphere.

Fuel Usage

Nearly all hybrids still need to have gasoline and diesel as their solitary fuel resource although other fuels such as ethanol have also seen occasional use. A number of other hybrid vehicles use hydrogen fuel. Hybrid cars are starting to become more popular in America as more people are considering them as an option when purchasing a new car, but they are still relatively new to the car market. In future years even more hybrids will become available and it is perceived that hybrid cars will become a popular option as people become aware of how they can help the environment and save money at the same time.

Answer
You can run the VIN on Carfax to uncover a lot of information about the car. http://www.carfax.com/

There is a nominal cost for the report, but there are some sites around which may give you a free Carfax report. Just search for "Carfax" and you'll find a ton of info. I'm sure this will reveal the info you are looking for. Best luck!

Any free means of running a carfax report on a used vehicle?

Yuba City

I know I sound like a tightwad, but is there any free way of checking out a carfax report on a vin of a vehicle I want to purchase from a private party? It seems that the official carfax report is just 35 bucks I don't want to spend, but perhaps it's worth it in the long run... Thanks for any tips!

Answer
Other than the information (vehicle summary), which is free from http://www.autocheck.com/ and/or http://www.carfax.com ....There is no FREE "Full" history reports.

Carfax has changed their pricing and policies due to the fact that so many users were reselling/distributing the information. (<-which is , in fact, THEFT) They are concentrating their sales to; dealers, auctions, and private party buyers_&_sellers.

In some instances, If a VIN is entered into the "Carfax" site, and it is a vehicle that is for sale at a dealer that has signed on to Carfax.. the dealer website/information and the report should pull up, because the dealer has already paid for the report.

Carfax is a registered trademark name for a company that provides "Vehicle History reports"

So while I CANNOT provide you with cheaper "Carfax" reports, I can suggest another company that offers Unlimited Vehicle History Reports for 60 Days ($44.99 ) "Autocheck" is the other company and they collect data much the same as "Carfax". Autocheck is owned by Experian.. another data-collecting-company.
Autocheck prices:
Unlimited Reports $44.99
Single Report + 1 FREE! $29.99
Unlimited Reports + TitleGuard $59.99
Carfax prices:
1 CARFAX Report for $34.99
5 CARFAX Reports for $44.99
(above prices current as of April 25, 2010)

There is a lot "data" that you can collect on your own though... without spending a dime.
*******************
Free data source #1
Check the dealers website
If a reputable dealer is signed on (paid subscriptions) to Carfax or Autocheck, the dealers own website can publish the reports to potential buyers. This info is free to the buyers because the sellers have already paid for it.

NOTE!!!
If you click on a link to "view the report" from a dealer site, and it redirects you to a site that AGAIN asks you to PAY for the report, then that particular dealer is NOT a paid subscriber, BUT that dealer MAY receive a referral fee when YOU pay for the report.
___________________
Free data source #2
Ask the private owner/seller to show you the report
Private sellers often purchase a vehicle history report and can show it to potential buyers too. That should be considered the cost of doing business and the seller can absorb the fee.
(^^BEST PRACTICE for reputable sellers)
___________________
Free data source #3
National Insurance Crime Bureau site offers up to 5 free inquiries (VINs)a day. They collect data about vehicles reported as stolen and about vehicles reported as "total loss" (due to flood, fire, accident/collision )or "salvaged" (rebuilt/reconstructed).
_______________
Free data source #4
Carfax
Yes Carfax! At the bottom of the Carfax home page, there are several FREE SERVICES: Lemon Check® | Record Check⢠| Recall Check⢠| Problem Car Check⢠|
The information that will be provided will be very basic and will STILL encourage you to PURCHASE their services.
___________________
Free data source #5
Manufacturer sites.
The original manufacturer of the vehicles often has an "Owner Resource Center" website that can give you a plethora of information ..such as; owners manuals, maintenance requirements, recall information, etc.

For example, Ford has a section where you can enter any Ford VIN and it will tell you if there are any recalls on that vehicle
( http://www.ford.com/owner-services/customer-support/recall-information )

___________________
Free data source #6
Internet Search Engines
You might be surprised at how much information you will find by "googling" a vehicle identification number (VIN). For instance, if you find the SAME vehicle is listed "for sale" at more that one "dealer".... One of them could be a scam site that has "scraped" the other (legitimate) site and is trying to scam buyers.
(if you have posted a VIN at Y!Answers, you will probably see the question in the google-search results)<--that's one of the ways that Carfax & AutoCheck can see who is violating their terms.
___________________
Free data source #7
NHTSA-odi
(National Highway Transportation Safety Administration-office of defects investigation)
At this website consumers can look up ; recalls, technical service bulletins, consumer complaints, and defect investigations. There could be inherent problems with particular years/makes/models (vehicles).
________________________________________

***FINALLY
After researching the free data, you should be able to narrow down your choices of vehicles that you are seriously considering for purchase.
That would be the time for you to actually get out the checkbook and spend some of your money on an actual physical inspection of the vehicles that made it to the "short list".
Before you purchase ANY vehicle, it would be very wise to pay a skilled/trained/certified technician/mechanic to inspect the vehicle in person.

I hope this helps.

Why is deflation a bad thing for the Japanese economy?

car news japan on Japanese cars at a port in Kawasaki: exports fell 15% in September ...
car news japan image

Pelendra

I'm picking a topic for a paper on Macroeconomics, and I've read a lot about the Japanese economy in the news recently. Unfortunately, these articles only tell me about the current situation, without giving me much background information.

Answer
First, deflation does NOT devalue the currency -- just the opposite, it makes the currency more valuable compared with other things.

Deflation means that prices are going down, and things will be cheaper in the future than they are today; it also means that cash itself becomes more valuable and is therefore a good investment. And those two factors cause problems.

Think about it: why would you buy things you don't absolutely need today, such as an iPod or a new car or extra clothes, when you know they'll be cheaper next month? It's like finding out there will be a big sale at your favorite store next week -- you won't buy stuff today, you'll wait to get the better deal later. Deflation causes this effect in the wider economy: people put off buying stuff becuase they know it'll only get cheaper if they wait ... and wait ... and wait. The result is a fall in consumer demand and slower or negative economic growth.

It's not just that growth numbers will look bad. What happens if you're a business and you realize your sales are falling, both from prices falling and from lack of demand? You lay people off. So deflation causes higher unemployment. High unemployment means people have less spending money -- which further reduces demand. Falling prices, lower demand, and unemployment all feed off each other and amplify each other -- it's a death spiral.

Meanwhile, falling prices and shrinking business means interest rates will fall. In Japan they literally fell to zero (actually negative). This harms investment: no one wants stocks because companies are doing poorly; no one wants bonds because interest rates they pay are near-zero and do not compensate for their risk. So it's best just to stash cash in your pillow case -- cash is the best investment. But this is bad for the economy because it means that the few companies out there willing to try to expand their business may find it hard to borrow money -- there is less capital available. So borrowing rates are low, but you can't get qualified for a loan. All and all deflation is absolutely a bad thing -- and actually Japan is lucky things didn't get worse for them.

What is the reasoning for the FED not adjusting the interest rate this week?

Justin H

The news said the FED had been considering a rated cut but decided to hold steady. With some banks hurting right now, why wouldn't they raise interest rates to encourage saving? Is it more important to keep people in the stock and bond markets right now?

Answer
About 70% of the US economy is based on consumer spending. And if these consumers start saving more and spending less. Then the economic recession will become even worse.

Also, a lot of people in USA have a lot of debts, including mortgages, car loans, and credit card debts. And if these people have to pay higher interest rates. Then many of them would go bankrupt.

Perhaps the Fed is afraid to lower the interest rate now just like before. Because you can't lower the interest rate below zero. And it isn't that far from the present 2% down to 0%. Once they lower the interest rate down to zero. Then there is nothing more the Fed can do. And USA will end up in the same situation that Japan ended up in when it lowered its interest rate all the way to zero.

Japan ended up in a long deflationary cycle with falling prices and wages and not much economic growth. And the same thing can happen in USA.

The Great Depression was basically a long deflationary cycle. And it can happen again.

My husband has been working as a independent contractor since janurary 2006. We have to file a 1099(right?) well, what are we able to write off on it.(cars, clothes, phone, gas expenses, etc?) and we just got married last month, so would it be better if we filed together or seperate? And do u know of any websites that will help us find this info. free of charge?

Answer
You don't file a 1099 your receive on from all of the people that your husband worked for during the year. You would file a 1040 using a schedule c to report the business income and expenses. If this is your first year you should consider using a professional tax preparer. They will save you more than their fee in most cases. These two links will be some help if you want to learn more for yourself.

What would it take for a cop to abandon a traffic stop to catch a different driver?

rondoggnut

I am not arguing that my assumptions are correct. But it seems to make sense, to me. When a cop is in the middle of a traffic stop, would he abandon it to catch a different traffic violation? What type of violation would motivate this? Speeding? Unlikely. But what about if he witnessed someone blow through a red light? Would he pursue it then?

========================================================================
EXTRA INFO, FEEL FREE TO IGNORE

In 17 years driving, I have always kinda chuckled at people who slow down when they see blue lights at a traffic stop, as if they are more likely to get stopped. I've always seen the opposite: the cop is most likely busy with the current stop, unless it's ending, so you should have a BETTER chance to get away with it, no? Especially on the freeway, it's probable that only one patrol car is in the area, so it seems safe to assume that one can speed freely, no?

But even on your standard 35 mph road, I tend to think that very few things would motivate the officer to abandon his current traffic stop. Particularly with speeding, I find it very unlikely that another cop is assisting in an operation. It's certainly possible, but in many cases like tonight, it's midnight and the roads are clear. So, as long as the current stop isn't wrapping up, it should be perfectly safe to violate most traffic laws, no?

I took it a step further tonight. A traffic stop was in progress about 100 ft from the next intersection. The light turned yellow as I approached it, but I knew I would definitely not make it in time. I was right, because it turned red when I was about 20 ft from the stop line.

The funny thing is that I would have stopped if the cops WASN'T there, on the basis that he would have to witness it, and then abandon his current stop, just to get me instead. My reasoning is that he likely won't even pay attention to trivial things like that, particularly because he THINKS that no one is brazen enough to do it. But supposing he DOES witness it, would he pursue it? A near miss? Sure. But on the basis of boldness? I can't envision it? Another possibility is he can simply tell the first driver to stay put, then go after me and come back to the first driver. Is that even possible? It's not like he can order me to follow him to his first stop. I wouldn't comply if he tried anyway.

To top it off, two intersections away is my left turn. But because I knew that at least one cop was preoccupied, I went ahead and ignored the red light, instead making sure that no one was nearby (both cars and pedestrians). In fact, I'm so confident that my analysis is accurate, that I did all of this while under the influence of alcohol. Not excessively, but there's a good chance I was over the limit, though a cop would never get a sample from me unless he arrested me. An unlikely occurence because my actions hardly constitute probable cause for DUI.

In fact, I've been pulled over 4 times in my life (for equipment violations, and once, 30 in a 25), and I readily admitted to drinking all 4 times. I submitted to HGN all 4 times, but was never asked for more. Which is fitting, because I would refuse all other tests anyway, including the roadside breath test. Instead, I was free to go, and I tested my BAC at home after 2 of the 4 stops, and got 0.18 and 0.22%. Alcoholic? Certainly. But dangerous? No, according to the professional judgment of 7 officers.

I pulled over 4 times, but I was lit up 5 times. The fifth was when I *safely* blew a stop sign in a residential area, and I saw him too late. But due to the fact that it wasn't unsafe, I decided to ignore him, instead hiding on the LEFT side of the next cul-de-sac. Sirens blaring, a homeowner came out, so I fled the scene about 2 minutes later, NOT going back to the scene of the "crime." My heart was racing for about a week after, because I just committed a felony. But in the end, I did the absolute most virtuous thing I could. I wasn't unsafe, so I didn't morally deserve to pay for it, even though the law requires that I do.

I'm sure that nearly everyone disapproves, but it doesn't prove that I was unsafe. Likewise, not everyone is being unsafe when they break certain laws. And don't even try the "slippery slope" argument, as if I will gradually get worse and worse. My driving and criminal records are spotless, btw.

Answer
Officers on my department average two warnings for every citation. If an officer is on a stop and in the process of giving a warning and sees something that would warrant a citation, he would certainly abandon the warning in favor of the more dangerous driving that would result in a citation.

As far as your personal history, I suspect your luck is due to change. Especially since refusal to do field sobriety is probable cause for arrest.

As far as your self administered test for BAC, I would certainly be interested on how those tests were performed.

I just recently saw a clip on foxnews.com titled Flying Cars a Reality? And I thought that flying cars is the dumbest idea I've EVER heard!

If you ask me, I don't want to make lanes and freeways in the sky and I don't want cars crashing down on my house! What about traffic jams? I'd hate to have a flying car over my car and suddenly it runs of of fuel and smushes on me!

Opinions, please. Feel free to try and find the clip or use google.

LOS ANGELES â The auto industry has seen its share of technological leaps, whether it was the advent of electric starters, automatic transmissions or hybrid gas-electric powertrains. And don't forget hideaway headlights.
One leap that engineers and tinkerers have never quite made, however, but refuse to let die: the flying car.

PHOTO GALLERY: Those incredible flying and driving machines

Year after year a few more try. Of all those stuck stewing in traffic gridlock, who hasn't imagined soaring Jetsons-style directly to a destination?

Most flying cars never get off the page, let alone the ground. The few that do are bedeviled by lack of funding, impracticality, limited appeal or fears they may simply break apart in flight â as some have.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: North Carolina | Hollywood | Toronto | Los Angeles | Harrison Ford | Ridley Scott | Blade Runner | Clouds | Woburn | Ford Pinto | Galpin Motors | Jake Schultz | M400 Skycar
The fact is that these keystones of modern transportation â cars and planes â have basic differences that make them a match made in hell.

"It's like trying to mate a pig and an elephant," says Lionel Salisbury, editor of the Roadable Times, a website that has made him a de facto chronicler of flying car attempts. "You don't get a very good elephant, or a very good pig."

Today, a new crop of magnificent men and women believe advanced materials and sounder business practices finally will allow their flying machines to defy skeptics.

They range from a guy who just built a prototype three-wheel flying motorcycle in the driveway of his Los Angeles home to a Woburn, Mass., company with more than 50 orders for a two-seat car that flies. Some designs call for wings that telescope. Some fold, manually or at the push of a button.

No dreamers allowed. Only cold-eyed realists. Aware of how quickly they can be branded kooks, the new breed deliberately discourages the label "flying cars" and eschews Hollywood fantasies such as Harrison Ford cruising the skies of Los Angeles in Ridley Scott's 1982 Blade Runner.

Their preferred terminology is "roadable aircraft" â a plane you can drive to the airport, then sprout wings and fly off into the sunset. They see early adopters as private pilots.

"You get a lot of people who have the Jetsons dream of one of these things in everyone's driveway. Maybe that will happen someday, but it's not something you can build a business on now," says Carl Dietrich, CEO of Massachusetts-based Terrafugia.

The effort has been helped by innovations in cheap, lightweight engines and strong, light materials such as carbon-fiber composites. They could finally lead to an affordable vehicle equally at home on the interstate or the runway.

Today's group follows pioneers such as Paul Moller, who has pursued his vision of a flying car since 1970. He predicted to USA TODAY in 1994 that he would be mass producing his M400 Skycar by 2000 and selling it for as little as $30,000. His company is still alive â and he's still trying to start production.

Moller was far from the first. Salisbury, a former pilot living north of Toronto, says he's found records of attempts at a flying car formulated "within months of the Wright brothers." The first patent was issued 15 years later in 1918.

At least 100 serious tries followed. The original Aerocar of the 1950s was among the most successful, with five built, says Jake Schultz, author of A Drive in the Clouds â The Story of the Aerocar. It was a novel design: The wings detached to turn into a trailer towed behind the car. He says at least one is still flying and three are in museums.

Developed by private pilot Molt Taylor, the Aerocar was one of only two flying cars to be certified by the predecessor agency to the FAA. An aircraft company later known as Ling-Temco-Vought looked at the Aerocar, but didn't get enough orders to justify production. Ford Motor looked, too, but lost interest, so Taylor started building sport aircraft.

Salisbury says it was 1970s entrepreneur Henry Smolinski who developed a wing and engine to be hooked to the back of a Ford Pinto, a subcompact car in the era, with hopes of production.

"It was fun," says Bert Boeckmann, whose Galpin Motors in Los Angeles is the nation's largest Ford dealership. He took a test ride in the Flying Pinto to an altitude of about 10 feet.

But the operation "was kind of working on a shoestring" and didn't pay enough attention to safety. Smolinski and a colleague were killed in 1973 when a wing collapse led to a fiery crash.

"Henry said if he ever died, he would like to die in his Flying Pinto," Boeckmann recalls.

Such structural risks inevitably come into play as inventors try to make a car light enough to get off the ground.

"Weight is one of the problems," says Bob Blake, an auto historian in North Carolina. "You're trying to make something that's designed for the highway to go into the sky. Even now, with the lightweight composite materials, it's more of a novelty than something practical."

But the latest entrepreneurs believe otherwise and are convinced they can strike the balance. Drivable aircraft now being developed include:

Terrafugia Transition.

Dietrich says he thought most interest in his carbon-fiber craft would be from "wealthy playboy types. We have a couple of those but have a lot of retired couples who want to use it to fly around for fun."

He says his company has 10 employees and that he's been working on the Terrafugia Transition's design since 2004. Design goals include a range of 500 miles and conversion from car to plane or vice versa in about 15 seconds.

Dietrich says more than 50 have already been ordered. The first flight is planned by the end of the year, and he hopes deliveries can begin in 2010.

At a projected price of $194,000, the Transition "is not a replacement for a Honda," he says, Rather, it's meant to provide "a fundamental new freedom that has never existed in one package. And we know there is a market for it."

LaBiche FSC-1.

Mitch LaBiche believes he has the winning formula for his flying car: The wings extend from the car with the push of a button, instead of being bolted on or unfolded.

LaBiche Aerospace settled on the configuration after interviewing about 3,000 people to find out what they wanted in a car that could fly. "Most people most interested in flying cars were already pilots," LaBiche says. "They wanted to drive to a local airport, take off, land at their destination â and then reverse the whole process to come home."

He says, "People basically structure their lives around where they live and work. We are a car-based society, and 75% of our travel is less than 80 miles, so people want something that acts more like a car than a plane."

LaBiche is taking orders for the FSC-1 as a buildable kit costing $175,000. He hopes eventually to get the craft federally certified â an expensive proposition â so it can be sold as a fully-built unit.

"We want to show people what we can do," he says of his six-worker company. "Once we have enough of them out there, some history and some backing, we can go out and attract the $250 million we need."

Samson SkyBike.

Sam Bousfield came up with a futurist design for a three-wheeled flying motorcycle with wings that telescope so it won't be blown around on the highway.

Bousfield, whose Samson Motorworks is based near Sacramento, says engineering is underway and he hopes to have a half-scale, radio-controlled model flying in a few months.

He hopes to be able to produce a full-size kit version that could sell for about $50,000. At that price, "We feel we can sell at least 1,000 kits a year," he says.

Caravella CaraVellair.

After a decade working at Rocketdyne, a big aerospace company, Joseph Caravella had saved up more than $100,000 to be able to quit and pursue his dream: a flying three-wheel motorcycle.

The idea came to him after he got a speeding ticket driving from Indiana to Virginia while in college. He'd been clocked by an aircraft.

Caravella Aerospace's design calls for a lightweight single engine that powers both the motorcycle and a rear-mounted propeller from an enclosed cockpit. Aimed at commuters, he sees cost as a key advantage for the single-seat CaraVellair, as he's named it: He believes it can be produced as a kit for $50,000. He hopes to have a version flying by 2010.

Caravella spent months working in his garage and driveway with dad Joe Sr. to finish the non-flying prototype in time for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh aviation show earlier this month in Wisconsin. Terrafugia and Samson also were displayed at the show.

Moller Neuera.

While Moller's Skycar won attention, it has been grounded by cost. Moller International has moved to a less ambitious project designed to make sales, not just headlines.

Moller is working on a saucer-like, ground-effect vehicle. The M2

Oh, Joe. Again? Really?

According to Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, Vice President Biden's famously loose lips loosed top-secret info about the location of the VP's secret bunker. (Guess what? It's in the basement of his house.)

In March, Biden replaced President Obama as the main speaker at the annual dinner thrown by the Gridiron Club, an exclusive journalists' club. The swanky dinner is a chance for media types to rub shoulders with top politicians. But this year, Obama became the first president to send his regrets since Grover Cleveland in 1885.

According to Politico, Biden killed it, poking jokes at his boss and Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's speech, saying he could "hardly wait for the English translation."

But during dinner, Biden â who's got his very own "Gaffe-o-meter" over at The New Republic â proved once again his terminal case of Foot-in-Mouth Disease. Clift blogged over the weekend that Biden told his dinner mates the location of the secret bunker, where former Vice President Dick Cheney is believed to have retreated after the September 11 attacks:

"... a young naval officer giving [Biden] a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment."

(Oops. Did I say that out loud?)

I am interested in purchasing a 2011 Kia Optima EX MSRP/ sticker says 27,656. I need help on negotiating a descent and fare price for this car. What price would you suggest? And any tips to use when asking for that price. Anything will help at this point !

Answer
first off you need to know what they can sell you the car for by using a site that gives you the price you should pay . I use edmunds.com ( no charge site ) they don't sell cars but give you a tmv ( true market price the price you should pay for the area in which you live, gives you all stats on car and reviews ( very good site ) than you go to dealer andf ask them what they will sell you the car for and it should be right about what you got from edmunds . do not tell them what price you havelet them give you theirs first and if close fine if not tell them what price you got and if they don't watch it, leave ( they don't like when you leave, but if they don;t stop you go elsewhere.
I have used this site for years and works very well, this way you have an even paying field as to what they can sell you the car for. the optima is very nice.
if you have more than one kia dealer in your area you can use truecar.com and when you fill in info they will tell you what dealer had best price and how much they will sell it to you for, you might have to drive few extra miles but you can always take to nearest dealer for service, that's not a problem.
if only dealer in your area they might not budge on price that;;s why you use truecar ( they do't sell cars either but give dealers your name and they will call you. works very well also, prices some times less than edmunds. only takes about 20 minutes to do all this and can save thouands.

Does anyone know of a smaller based car seat for a child over 20lbs?

Buffalo Sl

I need to upgrade my children's carseats but i'm having a problem finding seats small enough to fit all 3 kids in the backseat of the car (2 of the kids will be in car seats for kids over 20 lbs and side by side). Thanks.

Answer
Hi - there are a few carseats on the market that are geared for this.

First - you didn't give ages. Currently, we are really pushing parents to rear face their children to age 2 (or beyond). I know this is a bit of a foreign concept to people - but just check out this video on youtube before you immediately knock it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8gU9zzCGA8

Also - I would need some more info about the car - make/model/year.

The "thin" seats on the market are:

Combi Corroco - 33lb rear facing limit but a remarkably deep shell for a small seat - 40lb forward facing limit - good choice for infants moving out of the infant seat - but not the best choice for an older toddler.

Sunshine Kids Radian (nice tall top harness slots of 18-19", 65 or 80lb limit depending on make/model, thin and it has an 8 year expiration (it's all steel), its heavy, and it can be difficult to install depending on your make/model), great choice for older toddlers or to rear face kids longer

Graco Cargo (good for taller skinny kids - 40lb limit but 16" top slots- terrible booster... so don't use it for a booster)

The other thing is, some seats puzzle really well together - like all the britax seats puzzle next to radians really well because the britax almost sits up and over the radian.

What I would do is go to www.car-seat.org, post your specific situation, with your car make, model and all your kids stats (age, weight, torso height - have them sit against a wall, measure to their shoulders)

You will get a solution.

What are good questions to ask when buying a used car not from a dealer?

I dont know much about cars and I am going to go look at a car this weekend and i want to know what i should ask before buying the car. What things should i look out for? It's not from a dealer.

Answer
Do Not Buy That Used Car If...
These are the top mistakes made by used car buyers. Don't let this happen to you!
â¢The 17 digit VIN#'s on the door, hood, engine, dashboard do not all match exactly
â¢You failed to have a mechanic check out the car on a lift
â¢You did not run the Experian AutoCheck Vehicle History Reports on the car's VIN# prior to purchasing
â¢The title still shows a lien holder with no "Lien Satisfied" stamp on it. It means they still owe the bank
â¢The AutoCheck report shows evidence of odometer rollback or title branded as junk, flooded, stolen, etc
â¢There is no VIN# on the dashboard, or it has been filed down or altered in any way
â¢The seller does not let you drive the car first
â¢The seller does not back up every verbal promise IN WRITING!
â¢The seller is NOT the owner of the car. It means they are a dealer's agent
â¢The seller has no written bill of sale identifying the car, VIN#, and stating the title has not been rebuilt, etc.
â¢The seller does not give you copies of anything you ask for
â¢It's parked along the side of the road with a For sale sign, unless you can verify they are the owner
â¢The seller has no drivers license, title, and registration for the car. Assume the car is stolen
â¢You have not verified the seller's name on their drivers license is the same person on the car title
â¢The seller refuses to let you take the car to a trusted mechanic for inspection
â¢The seller's asking price is suspiciously far below market value
â¢The seller makes you sign a power of attorney, or only wants cash
â¢The seller tells you to pay now, and he'll get you the title tomorrow, it's locked up at the bank

Traditionally, there are four main schools of yoga: Jnana yoga, Bhakti yoga, Karma yoga, and Raja yoga.

The practice of physical poses ('asana') is a small component of Raja yoga.

However, in much of the Western hemisphere, and perhaps especially North America, the term yoga has become misconstrued to represent only the practice of asana.

An authentic yoga practice was originally mainly a spiritual practice that may, or may not, have included the physical component of asana practice.

In contemporary West, the term 'yoga' has become reversed to represent mainly a physical practice that may, or may not, include an often minor component of spiritually.

From a traditional perspective, for someone to say "I do yoga" when in reality all they do is practice asana, is comparable to someone saying "I am a car mechanic", when all they know is changing oil.

I fake about having schizophrenia. What do i do?

Q. I've been in the mental hospital twice and I've been diagnosed schizophrenia and take medicine on a daily basis, but I don't really have it. I just pretend I hear voices and stuff to the point where I really am starting. I'm really paranoid they'll find out one day but I can't just be like sorry. I've been lying all these years. I'm fine.

Answer
Hi there,

How can you lie about hearing voices! That is a horrible thing to do! I bet you only did so you don't have to work and get Disability money, etc..

I hear voices from demonic creatures, Satan and Angels. I see spiders crawling all over my bed/wall. I feel bugs crawling over me. I see satanic minions in the form of large, cloaked, dark, hooded figures with no face. I see dead bodies floating in mid air. I smell rotting flesh. I see Shape Shifers and Zombies. I Dissociate. I can see myself from a-far. Like I am watching my own life. I feel myself dissolving sometimes. Other times everything will stop dead around me. Like time will stop still.

I believe the Government has bugged my telephone, put microphones in my air-vents, hidden cameras in my electrical sockets, SoftWare on my PC/NetBook/LapTop to stop me from deleting Internet History and KeyLoggers to read my E-Mails. I believe they have a spare key to my home. The Government send Police helicopters over my residence about 3 times a day to monitor me. Police cars always follow me. I believe that the Government colluded with the Doctors (when I had a Breast Reduction going from H Cup to D Cup) and put a device in my chest that reads my thoughts and tells the Government where I am.

The reason for them doing this is because I believe that I was sent to Earth by my real parents who are of another race. I was sent here to save Earth. I am immortal. I also have the power to talk to animals and the dead. The only reason I can say anything on here is because I am under alias. Nobody knows me here.

I personally think you are sick for lying about Schizophrenia. I tell you. It is NOT nice being diagnosed with such a disorder. People looking at you like you're crazy. I have taken to pretending I am on my phone when I respond to the voices I hear because other wise it looks like I am talking to myself. Why the Hell would you WANT to pretend you had such an illness? Who would truly want to be labelled a 'Schizo' unless you are in the U.K and you have been trying to get on DLA.

If that is the case then SHAME ON YOU! I hope that DWP come on here and read what you have said and figure out who you are and stop all your benefits. There are going to be some major crack downs on dishonest scroungers. You are taking away someone else's money that could have a genuine mental illness. Not just some dolt-headed moron who wants to claim extra money meant for people with disabilities just coz you don't want to claim Dole and don't have any intenion of working.

Well be warned. There is such a thing as Karma and it WILL catch up with you. The benefits people DO check on the Internet. They search Google and put peoples names in to see what sort of info is brought up. If they see what you have said then you'll get kicked off for sure. If it turns out you're not in U.K (which I suspect you are because Disability is a lot harder to get in U.S.A as I have friends over there on it) then you are still a total moron for lying. I can only think your reason for lying about such an illness is for financial gain.

Linzi.

Where can I find info of classic muscle car owners in Colorado?

car club info on USO CAR CLUB - Reviews & Brand Information - Lealao, Kita S. Hayward ...
car club info image

Stephan

Im looking for a popular website for classic muscle cars that a lot of Colorado guys use. I'm looking for 1969 Plymouth roadrunner 426 hemi that's black with a red stripe going down driver side. It was bought about 20 years ago in denver at a small auction for $500. Muscle car web sites or anything that owners use to chat would help me a lot.

Answer
First, a Hemi Roadrunner for $500? No.
Second, to find muscle car owners in Colorado, try Googling something like "Denver muscle car clubs". You could also try the Autos discussion category on your area's Craigslist.

Where can I find info on maintaining my 1997 Club Car golf cart?

Chilly

I am looking for a detailed online resource that instructs how to properly maintain and repair my 1997 Club Car. It is a v-glide Regen model.

Answer
I would suggest looking to see if Club Car has a web site. If they do, it's a good bet they have info about your model archived, if not a copy of the owners manual you can download.
If that doesn't work, do a google search for your model.
If all else fails, ask the mechanics at the courses nearby.
Good luck

Shoveling snow off your car; how long does it take in the morning before work?

We're moving to Anchorage next month (from South Carolina..hot hot hot) and are only looking at apartment homes with heated garages. However, this feature is difficult to come by. So, how long does it take to shovel the snow off your car in the morning?..and do you think it's a necessity to have a heated garage in places with harsh, long winters?

Answer
You asked this question in the Chicago travel category. Chicago sometimes gets heavy snows but we only had 1 fairly heavy storm last Winter producing about 6" snow. The whole Winter had lass that 1 ft...not a normal season.

Anchorage not only gets feet of snow but lower temps and wind...that means blizzards.

It probably is hard to find a heated garage. Most people in Alaska plug-in the car when not in use. Engine block heaters are used to ensure the car will start after sitting in below zero temps...check it out:

You also might have to get a set of tire chains as ice is worse to drive on as snow. The chains dig into the surface making a steadier ride:

Shoveling off the car? I'll never do it. You'll probably be shoveling off your house's roof. For the car or truck I'd use a push broom for heavy snowfall...it won't scratch the hood, roof and trunk. Time? If I was going to use this broom, the snow would have to be over 8" or so. Depending on the car...1 min for a Prius / 3 min for a Ford Expedition:

For lighter snow get a smaller broom/scraper. An expandable one for a van or SUV or a smaller version. AFter the broom, finish off with th smaller one. The scraper will be very important as it will be your first weapon to attack ice:

2nd weapon...Deicer:

You'll also need warm durable gloves, a heavy winter coat, a warm hat and waterproof boots.

Last year Anchorage had record snow fall...be prepared:

I always see these polymer clay desert necklaces and stuff that are sundaes and in sundae glass and have small silverware to go with it, but neither the glass or the silverware is made out of the clay. Where do the people who make those find things like that, like the accessories they add onto the clay jewelry and don't make themselves?

Answer
I looked for miniature charms and this is what came up. I hope it helps you.

What are the positives and negatives of transitional lenses?

Taternuts

I am thinking about getting transitional lenses since I hate clip ons. I do wear contacts sometimes but mostly during the week I wear glasses. I need more info about the benefits & negatives of theses lenses. I know they do not work well in extreme heat but I live in PA and that is no problem. Also are they tinted when not in the sun? And do they work at all while driving?

Answer
I am an optician and I always try to talk my patients out of using these lenses. Unless you have an older car, they will not change in the sun. The windshield is UV treated and therefor the lenses will not change. You need direct sunlight. As for the lenses being tinted when not in the sun, if you were to place them on a white piece of paper you would notice a very lite tint. But there is not a tint that is noticeable while you are wearing them.

Now, I work in center city Philadelphia, and most people do not work out side. My uncle was a farmer for years and I did get him a set of these lenses. They were great for him!!

You mention that you hate clip ons. Have you tried the magnetic clip ons with polorized lenses? IF not you should. I have had great success fitting my patients with these. Ask your opticain about the Takumi or Revolution line of frames. The only complaint I have found about these clip ons are some people are very senitive to glare getting between the clips and the lenses. One sure way to solve this is to make sure that your RX lenses have a good anti-reflective coating on them like the crizal or alize brand, and also ask to have polorized lenses in your clip that have an anti-reflective coating on the back side of the lenses.

I hope this helps, let me know if I could be of any further assistance.
