Car dealer overpaid for my trade-in...........?

MarenN

I just purchased a vehicle from a dealer and I traded in my old vehicle. I owed $2,775 for my old vehicle and they were giving me $8,500 for the trade-in. Before going to the dealer I printed out the pay-off quote from my finance company. When we were negotiating the contract for the new vehicle, the car salesman said that they had to put the amount owed on my old vehicle from my credit report which was $3,190 because I had a recent payment that had not been reported. They subtracted the credit report amount from my $8,500 trade-in amount and and applied the remainder as my down payment. They said that the overpayment on my old vehicle would be refunded to me after the account was closed. The salesman and the finance lady both said that it would be mine to keep. Now only a week later, the same lady that did the financing paperwork is calling saying that there was an overpayment of over $300 to my trade-in and that I needed to give them the check. Did they mistakenly forget or did I get swindled? I know that there main goal is to make money, but this is an Infiniti dealer and not some whole in the wall, buy here pay here place and I didn't expect that from them. Thanks in advance for your responses.
Rancingfan........I was trying to not be vague. I was not upside down on my trade-in. My car was worth $8500, but I still owed $2775. That leaves me with a net of $5725 to apply toward the sales price of the new vehicle($27500). However, they put on the sales contract that the amount owed on my old vehicle was $3090 because my most recent payment to my old vehicle had not been reported to the credit bureau. Why should they get the extra money?

Answer
If the new car was $10,000 and $3000 was owed on the trade in car, the loan would be $13,000 only if the trade had zero value. If the trade car was worth $5,000, then the loan would be $8,000 plus sales tax, title and tags, dealer pack fees and any extras like upgrade radio.

Go to the company which financed your trade when you bought it. They will tell you, in writing, what payoff they quoted to the dealer. Take this info to the dealer, and talk to the finance manager. If the dealer charged you $3,090 to pay off trade and the amount actually paid by dealer to old lender was $2,775, then dealer owes you the difference. If the amount they paid was actually $3,300, then you owe the dealer money. After sorting this out, you calculate the accurate payoff on trade, to the actual date finance company received the money for payoff, and settle with them. Usually, they will quote payoff to a date several days after the transaction, and will owe you the excess.

Are electric cars actually fast, cool, and affordable today?

lefay.morg

I am seeing news about new car companies popping up selling electric cars. They seem like they're finally getting it right. They're big, fast, look cool, and can drive from A to B without needed to be recharged. So far, what is out there and what is on the horizon?

Answer
The hype is a bit ahead of the car.

The Tesla Roadster is probably the most exciting car that's actually being produced. It's fast, has a range over 200 miles and looks cool. It's small and costs $99,000, so not really a commuter car.

The Phoenix motorcars truck is very cool, it's $45,000, but due to needing tax credits it's only being sold to fleets. It's got a lower range of around 150 miles, a slightly lower performance level and not as cool, but it's got the huge advantage of being able to recharge in less than 10 minutes, if you have a charging unit.

The rest of the production cars now are more what people used to think of electrics, slow, small and long charging without much range.

What's coming up that's the most exciting to me is the Chevy Volt. It's a series hybrid, which is totally different from the Prius. It has an all electric range of 40 miles, which covers over 80% of the average drivers commute. After that 40 miles a generator kicks in charging the battery. The generator can be of any type, gas, diesel, fuel cell or something crazy that comes out.

The range without consideration to the battery is 600 miles, the mpg is supposed to be 50 after it's purely generator driven, so there is NO convenience issue with this car.

I think this is the car that can change things, under $30k price tag as well. 2010, and production development is underway, so don't let people tell you it's GM hype. The car was in union contract to be built in the U.S. so if you're patriotic that's a bonus as well.

Every big car company is coming out with prototypes now, and some look good, the suburu has the model I like the best as far as looks, but no stats have been released.

how dose a multi fuel diesel engine work with a fuel like gasoline?

redryan

any one have any Idea how a multi fuel diesel engine work, how can a engine that is designed for diesel work with outer fuels.

Answer
Some diesel engine designs can use a variety of biofuels ...the injector pump can be altered while driving to inject bio fuels of varying energy content via computer controls and switches. Another design which can incorporate gasoline fuels using diesel engine compression and ignition is called an HCCI engine...Homogeneous Charge Combustion Igntion..

http://www.greencar.com/articles/diesel-gasoline-this-clever-hcci-engine-bit-both.php

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HCCI

Other designs incorporate very precise timing to inject gas and diesel fuels in exact amounts....the drawback is you have two fuel tanks...one for gas and one for diesel.

good every day motorcycle for 17 year old?

Corey

Before I start asking you questions I find it more useful to give you some info about my situation.
Im NOT a beginner when it comes to knowing how to ride a motorcycle. I have been ridding dirt bikes since I was 12. When I was 15-16 years old I raced enduros on my 125cc which are any where from 40-60 miles long and take about 3 hours to complete. No beginner rider would be able to finish one of the enduros. I now ride a ktm 300 xc-w which has around 40-50-hp. I have no problem controlling its power, and if you did not know my dirt bike is a 2 stroke so that means I deal with the power bands so ridding a 4 stroke street bike should not be a problem what ever the engine size is. So I know how to ride a motorcycle but the only time I have ridden on the road was during one of my races just cruising around 50mph to the next check point. My current car is a 1995 4 cylinder jeep that gets around 15mpg and can have a hard time going over 50mph. Also I live in Texas so the summers are HOT and my jeep's air conditioner doesn't work well, so in the summer I drive with the doors off which is about as close to a bike as you can get on 4 wheels. I would mainly ride on roads that are 30-50mph but I would like the bike to be able to cruise at 80mph but still have a little get up and go left. I herd super sport bikes are bad for everyday ridding and I don't want to get a cruiser. I want a sportier bike that is somewhat close to my dirt bike but for the road. Im also looking for a bike that would be the cheapest for me to insure less than $1800 a year for just liability because thats what I am paying on my jeep. So my reason to get a street bike is for better gas milage and I just love 2 wheels. I also herd that insurance is cheaper than cars for just liability. So I am looking to save some money because my jeep is getting to the point where everything is getting ready to be replaced and I don't have the money for a fuel efficient car.
> so I am looking for a daily motorcycle (not a super sport or cruiser)
> something that can cruise on the highway but has good handling at lower speeds
> something that gets good gas milage
> a type of bike that is cheaper to insure than a car
(I would also like if you would tell me what your bike is, if you have one)

Answer
You seemed to be pretty familiar with riding already. I was in the same position when i got my first street bike. A Yamaha Seca or Suzuki are great. You want a cheap but great bike try a hyosung gt650. I started with a Suzuki Sv650. Was a great transition from a dirt bike to street because of the torque it had. Traded it in for an Yamaha R1 after I got comfortable. Try looking at the standard bikes for now at least 600cc or more or you'll just be disappointed. Stay away from a performance bike as a first. As for me I now ride a Yamaha warrior 1700cc it's a wicked cross between a cruiser and crotch rocket. Makes any Harley look like a joke. Just remember on the street you cant take the risks or tricks you normally would do on dirt. Good luck and ride safe!

Are there movies similar to 2012?

Have there been similar movies since 2012 came out?

Answer
Knowing -

Knowing is a 2009 American science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage.

"In 1959, Lucinda Embry stands in her school's playground staring at the sun, hearing whispers. The school makes a time capsule to be opened fifty years later. Lucinda writes a page of seemingly random numbers. She is later found in a closet, scratching numbers into the door.
Fifty years later, the time capsule is opened. Caleb Koestler, son of Jonathan Koestler, a widower and professor of astrophysics at MIT, receives Lucinda's page of numbers. He sees a mysterious stranger in the nearby trees and hears whispers. Jonathan sees the numbers, notices the sequence 911012996 and realizes it is a reference to the date and number of deaths from the September 11th attacks (9/11/01/2996). Jonathan finds similar information based on other numbers on Caleb's sheet. The last three dates on the page are in the near future. There are numbers between the dates that he cannot reconcile.
While researching, Jonathan learns that Lucinda died from a drug overdose, and Caleb receives more visits from mysterious strangers who give him a small smooth stone, and show him visions of the world on fire. On his way to pick up Caleb from school, Jonathan witnesses a major airplane crash. It is the date that the numbers predicted for the next disaster; the unexplained numbers are the locations of the events.
Jonathan then goes after Lucinda's daughter, Diana, and her daughter Abby, but scares them away when he reveals his interest in Lucinda's predictions. Jonathan pinpoints the next disaster to Worth Street in lower Manhattan. With news of terror-threats, Jonathan suspects the next cataclysm will be a terror attack. He pursues a man into a subway station suspecting him to be a terrorist, but he is only a shoplifter. At that same moment an approaching train derails, smashing into the station and destroying much of Jonathan's train.
Shocked to see the train fit the predictions, Diana decides to help Jonathan. She says that her mother used to hear voices, and that the next date, October 19, is the day said she would die. The two search Lucinda's mobile home in the woods, where they find pictures of the disasters she predicted, a copy of Matthäus Merian's engraving of Ezekiel's "chariot vision", and a pile of small smooth stones near Lucinda's bed. As Diana thinks the last number is not "33" but "EE" written backwards, John flips the bed over to find the underside covered with the words, "Everyone Else", representing a cataclysm that no one will escape. Outside, the Strangers appear around the car carrying the children. John drives them away only to hear from Abby that the "whisper people" want her and Caleb to go with them.
The next day, Abby colors the "Likeness of a Man" in the engraving and says it is the sun. John has a sudden revelation and rushes them to the MIT observatory, where he discovers that a massive solar flare will soon reach Earth, incinerating the ozone layer.
Diana wants to hide in some caves - and despite knowing it would not save them, John agrees. After seeing Caleb writing numbers, John decides to returns to Lucinda's school and uncover the numbers on the old door. But before he manages to find them - which he thinks are coordinates of a safe place, at Lucinda's mobile home - Diana takes the children and heads for the caves. When Diana stops for gas, the Strangers drive off with Caleb and Abby. Diana pursues them but is broadsided by a truck.
John arrives just as Diana dies, finding the small stone in Diana's hand. He continues to Lucinda's mobile home, finding the children and the Strangers in a dry river bed covered with the stones. A vessel similar to the wheels in the engraving descends from the sky. As John is refused entry because "only the chosen must go", he decides to let his son leave, as the Strangers dissolve into translucent figures resembling angels. The vessel departs with the children and a pair of rabbits, and a distant shot shows many similar vessels leaving earth. John collapses in grief, waking the next morning to find the sky full of smoke and heat. John makes it to Boston, finding the streets full of rioters. He arrives at his father's home to spend his last moments with his family. They embrace as the solar flare burns away our atmosphere and incinerates the Earth.
The film ends as Caleb and Abby in white linen clothing arrive at an otherworldly valley, then run across a field of golden grass towards a large tree."

Which is the world's fastest car?

Antariksh

Is it bugatti veyron or SSC ultimate aero or any other car?

Answer
The fastest car in the world is the Thrust SSC, which broke the sound barrier and set the land speed record at 763 mph.

I see some already know the fastest fastest street-legal production car in the world to be the SSC Ultimate Aero.
It has 1183 hp, 1094 lb-ft. torque, goes from 0-60 in 2.78 seconds,
and has an estimated top speed of 270+ mph, although only about 257.41 mph was achieved on the 2½-mile-long road.
SSC plans to make an attempt for the Ultimate Aero to achieve its true top speed sometime in the future on a longer road.
In my opinion, the Ultimate Aero looks cooler than the Veyron. Others disagree. However, the price of the Aero's approximate $650,000 price tag compared to the Veyron's $1.3 million+ shows a large difference. This comes partly because the Veyron was built more as a luxury car that's really fast, while the Ultimate Aero was designed as more of a sports car/supercar. The Veyron has some more sophisticated machinery, such as its airbrake/wing and other interior things, but interestingly enough, it lacks a touchscreen infotainment system, while the Ultimate Aero has one. If the Veyron didn't have around 1000 hp and have all-wheel drive, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as it is, because it weighs a lot.

Koenigsegg and Bugatti have to fight for the "second fastest" title, with cars such as Koenigsegg's CCXR and CCXR Edition and Bugatti's famed Veyron.

Recently, someone said that Bugatti will end production of the Veyron with a GT model with more horsepower and a top speed of 260, making it the fastest car in the world again.
However, even if that is correct, I doubt it would beat the Ultimate Aero, since the full potential of the car has yet to be unleashed, and is much lighter than the Veyron.
But in case the Veyron GT (if it is to be made) beats the Ultimate Aero, SSC will likely just turn up the boost on their car, as it is only running 14 p.s.i. right now.

And the incredible claims that the Barabus TKR can accelerate from 0-60 in 1.67 seconds and has a top speed of 270 mph HAVE YET TO BE VERIFIED, so for the moment those claims are only rumors.
If they are verified, the Ultimate Aero will likely still have a higher top speed, but if not, a simple increase of boost should fix that.

Headline: "SSC makes 'World's Fastest Car' again by boosting Ultimate Aero's horsepower to 1250 hp" or something like that. Wouldn't that be rather humorous?

What is the fastest street legal car in the world?

samm95

Answer
It would be very hard to find the fastest street-legal car in the world, since there are so many one-off custom cars. For instance, the VRAlexander's Carrera GT with 2800 hp. See more about his car in the Streetfire video if you can find it.

I see some already know the fastest fastest street-legal production car in the world to be the SSC Ultimate Aero (in terms of achieved top speed).
It has 1183 hp, 1094 lb-ft. torque, goes from 0-60 in 2.78 seconds,

In my opinion, the Ultimate Aero looks cooler than the Veyron (especially the regular model--the Pur Sang looks a lot better than the base one). In the news - Did New York police murder a black man exiting a club the day before his wedding?

fresh2

50 rounds...isn't that a bit excessive?
Hey Richard, you look very cute in that Santa Claus cap. Wanna go camping??

Answer
According to the news, the alleged suspect and his friends were at a strip club that was about to be shut down because of the problems it caused. One of the suspects mentioned getting a gun. The suspects then struck an officer with their car and then rammed an undercover police vehicle.
Although the suspects did not know about the undercover operation, their actions were aggressive and violent. Striking the officer is aggravated assault, ramming a vehicle (if it was occupied) would also be either aggravated assault or reckless endangerment (both are felonies).
When the officer was struck with the vehicle, it became a deadly force issue. The officers are justified in responding with deadly force. Unlike the movies, people don't fall down or fly into the next room when they are shot. Often, people can absorb several rounds with no initial response. There were 4 men in the suspect vehicle. You shoot until you stop the threat.

If you don't like the way these officers do their job, get off your uninformed judgmental backside and become a cop --- show us how it is done. Or are you too scared ?

When and where did the âBlack and Whiteâ Police car originate?

Richard,
Finding an original date and city of origin (when & where) is proving to be tough (at least for me). So far I have only been able to determine the "why", but I'll keep digging.

Police and fire fighter myths
By Lance Bailey | Sunday, January 28, 2007, 07:30 AM

"Sgt. Shaun Pendleton, public information officer for the Longview Police Department, responded to the question about black and white squad cars:

There really isnât much out there on this. The basic consensus is that way back when Henry Ford told people buying cars that they had their choice of colors: black, black, and black! Also the wide range of colors didnât become available for many years and you basically got your car in either black or white, so to make the police cars look different from any other car, they made them black and white instead of just one color."

car accident..what happens if?

One person is at fault. One of the parties ( the one at fault) gives the other party their drivers license info and number but the other party forgets to give the one at fault their info. The police are called but one of the parties (the one at fault) leaves the scene before the report is filed ..after they were told everything was ok but no insurance, registration or car plate numbers were taken down by either party....

Answer
well it sounds like the offending party gave his information and phone number, give the info to the police and let them deal with it. If there was minor damage to his vehicle and not yours then you have no worries anyway, if you didn't take down his plate number my question is why not if he had time to give you his information and phone then you had time to write down his plate number. I hate when people don't take responsibility for their mistakes, i'm not saying it was all your fault , but it isn't all his fault either he wrote down his info, why didn't you write down yours? If you told him everything was ok than i would take that to mean, you had no damage to your car and he can leave if there is no damage to another persons property, a report only needs to be filed if there is damage to someone else's property.

License Plate help please ?

Modder

Hey everyone. So I'm looking for a car that my dad sold almost ten years ago. This car was his pride and joy, and I've been wanting this car back for years. I have the name of the guy he sold it to, the city, last license plate, and other info on it. Is there anyway you guys could help me find the car, look up where he is, the license plate, anything ?
Here's what I have

1969 Buick Riviera
Sold to - Orlando Palmeres (Palmeras?)
San Jose, CA
License plate at time of sale - XDN919 ( Old black and yellow license plate)

Answer
If the license plate number you gave was your father's license plate, then the vehicle would no longer have that plate on the car. The new owner would need to have registered the car in their name and would have been issued a new license plate ( unless they had a current plate from another vehicle that could be transferred ). You could use a "paid search service" in an attempt to track down the buyer. It's very difficult to get information on people these days because of all the new "Privacy Laws" each state has.

Is this used car a scam or do you think its real?

Mason

So i have been wanting to buy a used car and came around this. He says Amazon Payments will supervise the entire transaction. They will handle the shipping, the payment and the paper exchange. You will make the payment directly to them, and not to me, and they will hold your funds in a safe account during the process. The shipping will take 4-6 days top, and the vehicle will be delivered with all the papers (including the title, full service history and a bill of sale already signed by me). Once the vehicle is delivered, you will be given seven days to inspect it.

During the 7 day inspection period, you can test drive the vehicle, arrange a full mechanical inspection and make sure everything is okay with it. When the inspection period is over, you'll need to decide if you want to keep the vehicle or not. If you decide to keep it, you will have to sign the paperwork and Amazon Payments will release the payment to me. I'm more then sure you will love the S4 from the first day and decide to keep it, but if you decide due to any reason not to keep it, Amazon Payments will refund you in the same day and I will be responsible with the shipping back.

In order to get the process through Amazon Payments started, I will need to forward them your contact details as my buyer. Once I do that, Amazon Payments will send you an email with all the transaction details and you will have all the info needed to move forward with the transaction.

He says the VIN # is WAUGL78E27A254616. And the car is currently in Crowley, LA. He sent me an additional 39 photos. Could y'all please help me tell if this car is a scam.

Here is the link to the car.

Just copy and paste to see.

Thanks for the help.

Answer
100% scam.

There is no car for sale. There are stolen pictures of someone else's car.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be "Amazon Payments" and will demand you pay for shipping fees, in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram. Or the scammer will want you to "prove" you have the funds by sending cash to a friend and sending him the MTCN#. The scammer then uses the MTCN# to pick up your cash and disappear.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

You could post up the email address and the emails themselves that the scammer is using, it will help make your post more googlable for other suspicious potential victims to find when looking for information.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even partial sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google "Craigslist car seller scam", "fake Amazon Payment email scam", "fake truck sale scam Western Union", "fake car shipping company scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

New car!?!?!?

Crazy chic

ok I'm getting a new car but I don't kow if I should get a 2001 Impala with 126,000 miles on it and it needs few tires but it's only 5,000! or a 2002 with low miles new tires and it cost 8,000... I really think I should get the cheaper one cause people tell me it's a really good deal! what do you think???

Answer
Money talks. And when it comes to buying a used car, not only does it talk, but having your finances in order can help you talk so well, you can smoothly close a deal that serves your best interests. There are basic rules to follow when buying a used car, such as an inspection by a mechanic, comparison-shopping, and tracking down the car's maintenance record. Additionally, an important and often overlooked rule is to have your financing ducks in a row before you kick a single tire. Failing to do so might make you want to kick yourself.
Four invaluable ideas
1.Clean your credit. Before you shop for a car loan, examine your credit report. Any of the three credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) can provide you with a report for a minimal cost. Make sure that there are no mistakes- a clean record will get you a stellar rate.
2.Start loan shopping early. Shop around for the best auto loan you can find. Look into local banks and credit unions, which tend to have the best rates. They may also cut you a nice deal, especially if you have an account with them. Don't be shy about investigating cyber space. Many lenders will bid via the Internet for your business.
3.Use pre-approval as leverage. Tell the seller that you've got a car loan in hand. You're a much more attractive customer if you have the power to close a deal with the stroke of a pen.
4.Remember where the dealer's bread is buttered. Many people tend to go with dealer financing if the salesman offers a lower sticker price, but buyer beware: A lower price tag means the dealer gets paid on the back end from the in-house financing deal.
The moral of this dollar-saving story is to get your financing established before you start comparing used cars. Not only will it add to your negotiating power, it will allow you to focus on what's under the hood instead of what's in your wallet.

If you are buying a used car, you absolutely must get an AutoCheck Vehicle History Report on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) AND have a mechanic inspect the car on a lift.
Used Car Pricing Does Not Use Invoice Price
We often get asked if "Invoice Price" and "MSRP" apply to used cars, or if you should try to calculate an offer for used cars based on invoice price. No, the Invoice Price and MSRP only apply to new cars, not used cars. For used cars, there is no invoice price because car dealers acquire used cars from people at a "trade in" price, then mark it up on the lot. The best way to determine used car prices is to check how your car has sold on eBay the last few weeks, and bring printouts with you to the dealer to support your offers on used cars.
Finding out what's wrong with that used car before you buy
Everyone buying a used car should get an Experian AutoCheck Vehicle History Report, they get data from a substantial number of dealers and aftermarket repair shops, nearly 5,000 sources. A mechanic can put the car on a lift and instantly spot previous crash damage, hidden frame damage, corrosion, and fluid leaks. But your mechanic can't tell you if your car title has been branded as a flooded vehicle, salvaged, junked, rebuilt, stolen, or passed through a salvage auction. Most mechanics overlook airbags. You can only tell how many owners that car had or where it's been with a history report, not just by looking at the car. This is not the time to 2nd guess. Unfortunately there are no clear laws if you sign an "As Is" paper. Any used car can have a bad past, Mercedes, Lexus, Honda or Toyota. Some municipalities don't supply accident report info, that's why you still need to have a mechanic look at it. If the police never made a report, it won't show up in the AutoCheck Vehicle History Report.
Save money financing your used car
You can save money when you buy a used car by using Capital One Auto Finance instead of paying a higher rate from the dealer. The process is simple, apply online, approval takes minutes and they mail you a check to take to the dealer. If you got railroaded into a high APR car loan from a dealer, you can refinance after 3 months with Capital One Auto Finance. Lower your current car payments with their Auto Refinancing Loans. A few of my friends have used them. They have a low APR, it's fast, easy and awesome.
How do I finance if a buy a used car from a private person?
A lot of people ask me how to finance a used car when you buy it from a private person. Use the Capital One Auto Finance person-to-person loan for used cars. Apply online, approval takes minutes, they mail you a Blank Check® so you can buy any used car from a private party without paperwork hassles.
Get An Extended Warranty for your used Car
Get an extended warranty for your used car. The best car warranty site we have researched so far who are known to pay claims is Warranty Direct. Read our chapter on Extended Warranty Scams & Tips, or you'll be out several hundred dollars. If you buy a 3 or 4 year old used car, that's when the manufacturer's warranty expires and all hell breaks loose. Unless you have an extended warranty, you are exposed to potentially large losses.
Don't fall into the gap!
If you owe more on your car than it is worth, if you lease, or if you put down less than 20%, you should get Gap Coverage from Gapinsurancequotes.com. Most people refer to it commonly as "gap insurance". Don't even bother buying it from dealers, they charge $500-$700 when you can get it online directly from Gapinsurancequotes.com for less than 1/2 the car dealers. If you owe $20,000 on your car, but it's only worth $16,000, you're upside down. You total the car, or it's stolen, your insurance company gives you $16,000. You must still come up with $4000 to pay off the bank, plus your $500 deductible! Gap coverage protects you against this. The better ones cover up to $500 of your deductible.

Car Salesman??? Please answer?

ARt

I'm 17 years old, turning 18 in less than a month, and will be graduating from high school in less than a month aswell. I am looking for a job and there is a local car dealership looking for a part-time salesman. The ad says they are looking for someone dependable, organized, and that has a drivers license. I qualify for all three of them but i dont know that much about cars. I am interested in this as a job and career and am wondering what i need to know to work as a car salesman?

Is there any chance they would hire me?

Any other info on car salesmen???

Thank you

Answer
if you don't mind working on commission, that is, you only get paid according to how many cars you sell, then it can be a good way to get money and to advance to a higher position in the company. you can study up on the particular type of cars sold at that dealership before you go for an interview. anyhow, i'm sure they will understand that you have just graduated and might need a little bit of instruction.

Well I don't know why he dumped you or any other personal info. But you two did have something for each other and cared about one another. So I think you could, because that is a tragic thing that has happen to him and his family. If he was a jerk to you and treated you horribly in your relationship then forget about it.

Why do US cars, now top Foreign Brands in Quality?

Q. It is now being reported that US cars, now top foreign cars in quality according to most general surveys. (see link). Question, "How do you think the US car makers managed to achieve this?" No trolls please! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/US-cars-toâ¦
It's amazing to watch people like Chris go ballistic just because someone asks a simple question that may seem to imply that Toyota has poor quality. Gee. I wonder if Chris drives a Toyota? LOL!
Here is another link to shoe US carmakers are beating Foreign cars.
http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=1149477&icid=autos_0430&GT1=22009

Answer
Well, it is a partially inapropriate question only because all cars are foreign. Every car maker makes their cars from parts from other countries, or in other countries. If Toyota makes a car in the US, is it foreign? VW's are made in Mexico. The other part of this is that the companies all own eachother. There is actually only a small handful of car companies that each make many brands of cars.

As that probably is kind of sideways (although not unimportant or untrue) to your question, I will offer this.

A lot of trends has to do with production cycles. As a company, leaders have to decide how much money to put into research and development and quality control. Each of those things cost money, which reduce profits. It is a balance act of spending enough money in those areas to keep consumers happy (but only just enough). In the 70s-2000's, US automakers had a skewed version of reality. They didn't spend too much money on those areas because they were still making killer profits. Part of the problem was the "Buy American" ideal. With people buying American even though they were increasingly crappy products, automakers had no initiative to increase quality. Why should they have, they were still making money hand over fist, and pouring money into quality would have only taken it out of their own profits and hurt them as compared to their competition that wasn't 'wasting' money on that. The problem is that it caught up with them. Late 80's early 90's fewer people felt that the motivation of "buying American" wasn't enough of a justification to keep shelling out money for unreliable undesirable cars. Increasing fuel prices (partially from the '73 oil crisis) also helped people justify making the switch. They began buying foreign more. By the time the automakers started to feel the pinch, it was becoming too late to make a quick turn around. Most cars have a multiyear development time. If you wanted to take a new direction, it can be almost a decade before those cars start making enough production to make a difference. Forward to 2010, you are starting to see that effect now. Even though trends were heading down in the 80's, US car makers were slow to make changes, let alone drastic ones, so things didn't really start to happen until much later. That said, some makers didn't even make changes as of 2010, and that is why we saw several companies close.
The reason 'Foreign' cars seem to be lagging behind is because they are at a different point in their cycle. They had made reliable cars for a long time, so they began to trim R&D and reliabilty to increase their profit margin. Now that they are starting to get bit, they will probably make a shift back (but that will take quite a few years).

So that is what you are perceiving.

Propaganda - Toyota????????

itguru5354

I think people are now making a big deal out of the recall. Especially the customers, many of them are taking this advantage to file other complaints and to force Toyota to fix other problems for free. I worked in the service industry, and I know how cocky people can be. Is it really necessary to go through all these legal actions that we now see on media? Com'on. Many competitors are just now taking this opportunity to destroy Toyota, and I'm not surprised that they would do nasty things to hype this up. There is a problem, Toyota acknowledged it, and Toyota is going to fix it - done. Stop this media cr*p already.

Answer
I agree.....in the past there were many american car company's recalls....

Stop Abusing Toyota just because of a huge recall....gas pedals wear out if you constantly floor your car when you don't really need to.....temperature and humidity can also affect it.

I understand that everyone would agree that Toyota did hide this problem and everyone would obviously accept that American cars are better.

The fact of the matter is that all car companies have to go through recalls. Toyota & Honda are definitely being attacked by the government especially LaHood. He's constantly making a big deal about this...

First he says to stop driving toyota's (even Obama agreed)

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/02/0â¦

Then He later apologies for his idiotic words....

http://www.azcentral.com/business/articlâ¦

I do understand that Toyota has included more than a million vehicles in this recall. Honda's wasn't even that severe....one incident triggered the whole situation & guess who made a public announcement.....YES LAHOOD.

http://www.koco.com/news/22537819/detailâ¦

Why didn't the government announce the GM recall... (more than 1.5 million vehicles)

http://www.usrecallnews.com/2009/04/nhtsâ¦

Chevy recall.... (905,000 vehicles)

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2010/â¦

And yours truly Ford.... (more than 80,000 vehicles)

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04â¦

Toyota has made over 175 recalls within the year of 2000
Ford over 250+ (not too bad, very impressing, seems I can trust them)
Chevy over 700+
GM over 1000+

And you still love American Cars????

If Government did decide to make this public.............They're FINISHED. They have no money to make a recall.....sure they can do minor but major such as TOyota....they're gone.

Lahood and the transportation department are deliberately keeping this quiet just for the sake of keeping American car companies alive as well as aiding the economy. Oh sure the economy is going up as American car companies gain profit.....wait till Toyota starts firing people...UNEMPLOYMENT IS OFF THE CHART!

Toyota has employed hundreds of people, imagine them without jobs if Toyota left US. If they left we would be in an instant recession.

In some cases GM, Ford, Chevy needs Toyota for competition. It is because of Toyota Honda and Nissan GM, Ford and Chevy stand this good today....otherwise they would still use same old parts from 1990's.

Doesn't matter if Toyota made such a huge recall.....The downfall is that pretty soon Toyota will start firing workers and unemployment rates will increase. Look at the bright side....They will lose money and the CEO will have to invest into more safer technologies to make their vehicles better....

last time I checked GM begged the government for money, they showed up in their hybrid cars to prove them that they can improve.....lets see. Because of their irresponsibility I am losing my money as taxpayer. Why should I pay for their failures when I should worry about my savings, sending kids to college, keeping a roof over my family and feeding them.

This is all a media hype by the government to convince people to buy American cars....even if you have a Toyota just take it to the dealer and have your pedals fixed...it will only take 2 hours rather than you wasting more than $18,000 on a new car....Plus Toyota dealers are seriously listening to any complaints about their vehicles from numerous customers and providing quick and fast solution.

Every American car lover is being a bit too harsh on Toyota & Japanese cars....For your information....we need Toyota for Competition....Ford, Chevy GM watched how they rose to the top and now they're doing the same. STOP BRINGING UP WW2 as well...

Japanese cars are good, American Cars are good, all cars are good....mainly its human error which can end lives not cars.

An educated human can save lives.....especially their own (relating to the stick gas pedal...)
The witness who will testify, has no knowledge about cars....when her pedal was stuck she deliberately panicked (we all would) and constantly shifted into all the gears in her Lexus....L, 2, 3, 4 constantly gives power to the wheels.....she said the neutral didn't stop the car....why do you think it didn't stop the car....(because she kept shifting back to those gears....). She doesn't know anything about cars, she didn't even know anything about the Lexus's gears in her car.

She will deliberately attack toyota....."Shame on you, Toyota..."

Dealership claims I don't have warranty on car when I was supposed to?

Jordan G

I recently purchased a used car from a Ford dealership.
On the window of the car, it had a small sticker saying this car had warranty plans, ranging from 30-90 days. On an even bigger sticker on the back windshield, in large print, there are 2 check boxes:
[ ] No Warranty- As Is
[X] Warranty
Warranty is clearly checked, and it goes on to describe the warranty info. It also had the specific model number and stock number of the vehicle, in the dealership's system. So this sticker was specifically for this vehicle.

So throughout the process of purchasing the vehicle, the dealer, named Mike, kept mentioning the warranty. When I went for a test drive, I noticed a possible leak and the A/C making a rattling noise. Again, he kept mentioning the warranty, saying "Any issues with the car, you bring it in and we fix that up for you, no charge." Those issues were fixed within a day, in the midst of finalizing the deal. With the warranty and these issues fixed, we obviously felt confident about this car.
The day I finalized the purchase, I met with Mike in the morning. I payed in full, cash, for the vehicle. It was being registered in my mother's name, so we had to come back to sign papers later on when she was out of work.

When we returned, Mike was not there, and we dealt with a different salesman. We sat in a room, and he had us signing papers. He kept making it a point that we'd be out of here with a new car in minutes. He handed us things to sign, basically said "sign this and you'll be out of here within 3 minutes." So clearly, he's in a rush to get us out. Without describing what we were signing, the receipt had in small print "Car sold 'as is.' No warranty on this vehicle." Never was I notified that the warranty was suddenly not being offered to me. So with that said, why would I even think to ask about it? And why would they not explain it to my mother? This was the first time she came with me to the dealership, so wouldn't they explain everything to the person they are really selling it to?

Less than a week after purchasing the vehicle, my check engine light came on and the car was leaking fluids. I called on a Monday to schedule an appointment, they couldn't get me in until Friday. I showed up and handed my keys over. Before going to the waiting room, I made sure to ask "This is covered under warranty, correct?" The lady responded, "Yes, you're all set. No worries." So I waited patiently for 2 1/2 hours. They finally came in, said they fixed the engine light issue (spark plug). They couldn't fix the leak, I guess they didn't have the parts they needed. It was a Friday, so any orders wouldn't be in until the following Tuesday the earliest. So Tuesday came around, no call. On Wednesday, I called them up and asked how long I'd be waiting. She said they don't have any way of tracking the shipment, so they didn't even know. On Thursday, I received a restricted call. They left a voice-mail. Turns out it was the dealership. The lady said to give her a call back.

I call her back, and she informs me that I am not covered under warranty. The car was sold as is, and they have the papers to prove it. I explain how there was a verbal agreement and how it was even posted on the car. She says that apparently, my car was too old to cover with a warranty (2000 Ford Taurus) so that is why it was sold as is. I WAS NEVER INFORMED THIS. She said they would be willing to work on my car, just obviously with me paying out of pocket as normal. She says that the mechanics also noticed a coil spring near the rear tire is loose. She just thought she would mention it to be courteous, as I have a 4 month old baby that I drive with in this car. She's worried that it could blow a tire while driving. WHY IN THE WORLD was I not informed this sooner? The mechanic withholding that information potentially put my daughter and I at serious risk, as I frequently drive on the highway.

So at this point, I decided to call Mike to set things straight. I explain to him how there was warranty information ON THE CAR in two different locations, and all throughout our discussion, he kept mentioning it. He explained that he doesn't recall discussing it, as it was 2 weeks ago. The only thing they can go by is what's on paper, which is a signature of my mother, finalizing the deal, with the tiny words mentioning the whole "as is" business. He said the best he could do was double check the papers. He abruptly hung up the phone.
I have not contacted them since. However, today I discovered the large sticker about the warranty in my glove box. I plan on having a talk with them tomorrow. At the least, I'll explain that I was completely mislead, that transferring to a different employee could've caused an error, that mine and my child's life has been in danger, and delaying the repair of this car has potentially caused even greater damage.

Am I in the wrong? Is there any chance they'll actually help me?
I literally just payed them in full, with cash, for a used car, and they clearly snuck this tiny detail of as-is under my nose at the last second...

Answer
That surely sucks when some con game dealer and salesman pull this kind of crap. Sadly this happens all across the is country everyday. One thing you need to look at is the year make and model of the vehicle and the mileage OK? because NO DEALER is going to warranty any car that is 10 years or older with excessive miles on it. I don't care how clean the dealer makes a 12 year old car look like new its not going to ever get a warranty. So do not fall for this again.
Only cars that are 3 years old and newer are likely to have any kind of factory warranty. Beyond that NO AFTERMARKET WARRANTIES ARE WORTH A CRAP. never buy one.
Some salesman prey on unsuspecting people like ourselves and say all the right things and when the money comes out this is where you hang on tho that top copy of the contract. Don't let it out of your sight after you sign the original Its a lot harder to change or do anything if you have it in your purse or pocket. If they need to make a copy fine use the one they have for their records.
Here are some things I like to do when test driving used cars. I like to do a cold start test drive after the vehicle has been sitting overnight I like to start it up listen too the engine it should smooth into a nice quiet fast idle and while I look for any clouds of blue smoke I let it warm up for a minute or two and then drive it like I stole it. Any used car that will run drive and stop good cold is probably in great shape. Some cars with transmission problems may not even move for the first 5 to 15 minutes when cold in the morning due to transmission problems.
A car that gets up easily to 55 miles per hour is usually in pretty good shape. I like to test drive a used car for 40 minutes to an hour one of my first questions the night before is if its ok to take a used car to a mechanic and a long test drive the next morning any one who says NO I thank them and move on anyway.
I work out with the mechanic before hand what inspection I want. Since I checked all the power windows and accessories and heater and lights and stuff my self already no reason to pay the mechanic. I ask the mechanic to put the car on a lift and take off the wheels. I then have a quick brake inspection and front end check done to make sure its all in good shape and while under the car the mechanic inspects the frame and underside of the body for any damage or repaired damage He also checks for oil leaks in the front and rear end and transmission then puts the tires on drops the lift and takes the car for a test drive.
that all takes about an hour and 20 minutes or so. If we have any further questions we can do a more comprehensive engine analysis but by this time Im pretty sure what I want to do. following these guidelines is not a perfect answer but its a heck of a lot better than blindly trusting some greedy sob who would rip off his grandma for a few bucks.

When Purchasing a Vehicle From a Car Dealer (Used), How Does the Insurance Info Work?

Shakiki

If I wanted to purchase a used car from a dealer and did NOT have insurance, would I have to purchase insurance BEFORE purchasing a car (ex. have a vehicle insured in my name then use that info for the other vehicle and/or switch the vehicle info in the account) OR do you purchase a vehicle and THEN purchase the insurance?

I'm new to the insurance bit as my car is insured in my stepfather's name and he now lives in a different state so I don't know anything about this stuff! Also, how long do the dealer temp tags last? Thanks!
So.. Before I purchase a car I should register my own car in my name and then get the other car and update the vehicle info?

Answer
You get insurance before you purchase the car. They will ask for information like the VIN number and such. I believe the temp dealer tags last for around a month.

I know for a fact that you need insurance to drive your car off the lot of a dealership. It is illegal to drive without some kind of insurance, and almost all dealerships will make sure you have insurance.

Now, if you buy it from a person, i don't think they would care too much.

Another long question... about my car accident last night and my 9 month old daughter. Thanks!?

troubledin

So last night I got into my first real car accident. The roads were really slick and it was right around rush hour, with cars driving at a pretty good speed but packed into the highway. Anyway, the car in front of me slammed on their brakes and I did the same but I just couldnât stop soon enough. I skidded into the rear of the car in front of me and it totaled the front end of my car. My 9 month old daughter, Avary, was in her car seat (of course) in the back so I jumped out of the car and raced to her to make sure she was ok, then called 911. She seemed fine and was fine for the time following the accident. Eventually, one thing led to another (complicated story so I wonât elaborate) and I ended up being sent off to the hospital in an ambulance a couple hours later. My sister and my daughterâs father drove her back to my house to stay with her here until I was done at the hospital.

Well, when they got to my house, Avary had fallen asleep in her car seat and my sis had to take her out and bring her in the house. She didnât wake up! My sis and Avaryâs father tried a few ways to try to wake her and nothing worked so they freaked out and rushed her in to the ER where I was already. Apparently she would not wake up the entire trip to the hospital, then, a few minutes after they brought her into the hospital she woke up but one of the nurses said she didnât look good and it was good they brought her in. Well, the docs checked her out and monitored her pulse and stats with this little device clipped to her leg or toe or something (I couldnât see because I was still strapped to a backboard). They checked her out and said that she was fine â and she was acting very normal at that point. It was as though nothing had happened at all. So everyone decided that she was just extremely tired from all the drama and crying, me being a nervous wreck, (we were even left in my totaled car that wouldnât start (no heat) in a parking lot by the cops for quite some time until a family member could get to me⦠but thatâs a whole other story). Everyone, including the docs determined she was fine and just exhausted.

Eventually we were released and my mom slept over to make sure we were both ok. Avary acted completely normal through the night and all day today until around 7:30 tonight. I fed her some dinner/snack (her food routine was a bit off today) and she fell asleep in her high chair as I was finishing up feeding her. She was out too. I would talk to her and she would kind of jump but doze right back off to sleep â sitting up! She has never done anything like that before. I unbuckled her and lay her down in her crib and she stayed asleep (I watched her closely the whole time) for about 50 min before waking up and not wanting to go back to sleep. She was her regular old self then about an hour and a half later she started rubbing her eyes and I put her down for the night (until I go to bed because we co-sleep) Do you think she is just still tired and exhausted from last nightâs nightmare? Could that be why she fell asleep in her high chair like that? I am going to follow up with her Ped again tomorrow but Iâm just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar. Like the super sleepy/exhaustion part after a really big trauma? Did it last more than one day? Does this sound normal to you?

Please donât just say take her back to the ER. If you got this far and read my entire question, please take the time to answer it. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much everyone for your support and answering my question. It has been an awful time but hopefully we will both be fine. The worst part for me was lying there on the backboard and knowing my little girl was brought in and something could be wrong! I wanted to get up and be with her and they wouldn't let me. I'm still crying, just thinking about it! Thanks again for your kind words. It definitely helps. I'm actually going to go snuggle up with Avary right now (we co-sleep). I need to have her in my arms with the way I am feeling right now. Thanks again for your answers and kind words.

Answer
The word shock is used differently by the medical community and the general public. The connotation by the public is an intense emotional reaction to a stressful situation or piece of news. Its medical meaning is much different.

Your babe would have been assessed for signs of shock on the scene had paramedics been called, and definitely when your family brought your daughter back in the ER docs would have been looking for that first. They know what to look for. I know it's hard but try to trust in that. Signs of shock are very obvious ~I won't get into it~ and present very quickly ~ usually on the scene. It would not have been missed.

You're a great mom. Great Mom's worry alot. Take her to the ped to ease your mind. Hold her close, because she probably has been affected psychologically in some way by all the drama.

My opinion, she's fineã

Totaled my blazer, AAA car insurance?

Niki

Okay I was involved in a hit an run accident a little over 2 weeks ago. I have full coverage insurance including uninsured and underinsured coverage. Also the required 10,000$ personal injury protection required by my state KY. My policy is with AAA. I owe around 9,000$ on my truck still, but was told finally yesterday that AAA is settling my vahicle loss at a little over 13,000$. I'm trying to find out how long is this going to take before I get money from them so I can get another car. I have injuries and can't get back an forth to my Dr and physical therapy. So I need this to happen like yesterday. But trying to figure out if since my claim is going under uninsured motorist protection since it was hit an run should I be able to get a rental car for the time being even if I didn't have rental coverage? And I am also an independent contractor doing vehicle title work and various other things for an automotive shop. I'm not on payroll since I contract my own work and pay my own taxes at end of the year. My attorney told me that since I didn't have a job where I received regular payroll checks I could not claim loss wages. Why is this? And is there anything I can do to speed this process up? As of now I have minimal use of my right arm because I injured my shoulder in accident and so far Dr has me off work till end of January. So I need to recover benefits somehow so I can survive till going hack to work. Any help would be great, this is all so overwelming. Thank you

The good news is that you are not upside down on your car, so will be getting a check that you can use as a down payment on the next car. The bad news is that with a totaled vehicle it takes longer to settle, since they have tons of paperwork you will need to sign and send back to your insurance company. On average, totaled vehicles take on average of 30 days to settle with all the paperwork.

Since no rental coverage, if you rent a car, YOU will have to pay out of pocket. IF, you were going through the at faults insurance company, then they would be paying for a rental, but since unknown and you were smart enough to buy uninsured coverage, if is up to you. Can you have a friend or family member drive you to your doctor appointments? Or, maybe a friend might loan you a car, if you pay them $10 a day?

The lost wages is tricky. The site attached explains the PIP in KY and can include lost wages, but,,,,since an independent contractor with no set weekly wages from an employer, gets tricky. Like the site says, even (IF), you qualify, depending on how much your medical bills are, there maybe not enough, or, with your continued treatment, can exhaust the coverage, meaning you will have to pay out of pocket for your treatment till done, unless you have health insurance, then it will pick up. (IF), you can qualify for any wages, you will have to submit all kinds of forms, like your taxes and other documentation to validate how much wages they "might" owe you.

So, the insurance company is doing what they are supposed to do, and in the meantime, you will need to either borrow a car, have a friend drive you, or rent a car and pay out of pocket.

good luck

Is this a craigslist car scam?

Rachel305

so i was on craigslist today looking for a car that has a reasonable price cause im tight on money i just had a baby last month and im also not working now cause i have to take care of my son or noone else will... well the point is that i ran into this ad on craigslist it said that they had a 2005 acura tl for only $2799 so i emailed the person asking them a few questions about the car and this is the email i got back from them (well her, she claims to be a woman, and lives in atlanta georgia and shes selling the car supposively cause she divorced her husand and the car brings back too many memories) please tell me is this a scam?

please read the email:

Hello. I want to thank you for the interest you have shown in my car. I'll to start off by telling you that I'm from Atlanta, GA, I'm 33 yrs old, one child and was married for 6 years when my husband told me he wanted a divorce. I want to sell my car as soon as possible because it connects me to many memories of him. The final price for the car is $2,799, I'm pretty sure it is a reasonable price and i want to let you know that I didn't drive it much and when I did, i kept it clean and never had any accidents with it. The engine it is running in perfect condition, the exterior it has no scratches or any flaws of any kind.
Year: 2005 Mileage: 75,208 miles VIN: 19UUA662X5A031740 Exterior color: White Transmission: Automatic
MPG: Great gas mileage: Highway - 34 MPG, City - 28 MPG, Combined - 31 MPG (*Fuel economy.gov). Perfect for the city.
Oil was changed every 3,000k miles. Transmission was serviced aprox 2 oil changes ago and is in perfect condition. Tires were replaced about 8 months ago. Tires are only 10% used.

The price, $2,799, it is including title transfer. I have worked a lot with eBay so I'm going to sell my car through them. It's the only thing that i can put my trust into, 100%. Let me explain you how it works, if you are not popular with this process. First of all I will be needing the following details from you: your Full Name, your Address and your Phone Number. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay. They will process your info and send both of us an invoice. The invoice will come to you with the details on how to make a refundable payment. As soon as you send the money and fax the payment information to eBay, i will receive an email with the payment confirmation in order to ship you the car. You will receive the car in 3-4 working days and you will have 5 days to test and verify it. As you can see, you will receive the car BEFORE any money is released to me. If, for some reason, you disagree with the car it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and eBay will send your money back. You will receive the title of the car with the car, with your name on it. I have a free Carfax if you want to take a look, copy of the original title of the car and eBay car inspection.
I hope things are clear for you of the process it is working and I'm waiting for your email.
Here are some pics of my car:

the pictures were never really there anyways i tried downloading them and when i did they never showed up.
thanks everyone! im def NOT buying this

Answer
100% scam.

There is no car.

There are stolen pictures of someone else's car.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "eBay car shipping company/agent" and will demand you pay for "shipping costs", in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram.

Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google "fake car shipping scam", "western union shipping fraud" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts of victims and near victims of this type of scam.

Has competition helped make health care affordable in the US?

Nobody

According to Paul Ryan,Republican VP candidate,Medicare needs some competition in the form of private insurers to keep it from going bankrupt. I have not used Medicare yet,but I have plenty of experience with competitive insurance, and all I have seen is costs going through the roof. What do you think?

http://news.yahoo.com/paul-ryan-seniors-medicare-going-bankrupt-competition-answer-213737478.html
Some answers here suggest elimination of insurance,at least the government sponsored kind, would solve the cost problem. But many other countries have government sponsored health insurance plans with mandates and their costs are much lower than in the US. What gives? Why is the US in such a quandary about this issue? Are we really this dense,or is the problem so out of hand that it is unsolvable now?

Answer
The health care industry in the US is broken. Health care spending has risen from 5.2% of GDP in 1960 to 16% in 2007 and is still rising. Switzerland is 2nd, spending around 11% of GDP. No healthy industry behaves that way. A healthy industry that experiences high prices will draw additional suppliers, and high prices will encourage efficiency and consumer rationing. None of these things are happening in the health care industry today.

1) The US is aging. The baby boom generation and medical advances mean more older people, which means more chronic conditions that need more care. This causes demand to skyrocket, and basic economics tell us that raises prices.

2) Third party payment, wherein the average American uses insurance to pay for most of his medical costs, means that consumers have no cause to ration or search for alternatives to control costs. Every healthy industry is a balance of power between supplier and consumer that controls costs. Third party payment breaks this balance since both the supplier and consumer have incentive to over-spend. This is made even worse by the employer health care tax deduction which means it's really FOURTH party payment.

Making the employer deduction into an individual deduction instead would help this problem, but not solve it. MSAs (Medical Savings Accounts) would SIGNIFICANTLY improve the problem. Any such deal must be accompanied by short term spending to offset this as well as rules to make insurers unable to drop covered people who have been paying dutifully during good times (one of ObamaCare's few good parts).

3) Doctors, and other medical professionals, take a large investment of time and money to create. Economists would call this an inelastic supply. The American Association of Medical Colleges says we face a shortfall of more than 150,000 doctors over the next 15 years. Basic economics: supply shortages create higher prices. The average medical school graduate begins their career with more than $295,000 in debt. It is expensive and slow to make new doctors.

We can help this problem by changing immigration law to bias in favor of those with medical training and making our licensing requirements skills-based so that foreign doctors with the necessary skills, regardless of where they went to college, can come to the US and practice. This will increase supply and lower prices. We can also subsidize medical college for those who go on to practice in the US.

4) Foreign drug laws. Most foreign countries have price controls on drugs. This is why drugs are cheaper in Canada and Europe. It also is why we pay more. Because we, and we alone, are financing the R&D that has produced the amazing revolution of improved medical outcomes that has helped our society live longer as well as improving the quality of that life.

If we use simple price controls, we will be putting the genie back in the bottle. We will see a much slower rate of medical breakthroughs. It is a choice of priorities. We cannot have both...unless we can get foreign nations to pay their fair share.

5) Medicare, Medicaid, and soon ObamaCare all push prices up. ObamaCare will do it through a host of new regulatory costs and requirements. Most significantly, the rule forcing insurance companies to accept people regardless of pre-existing conditions ensures that people will not seek insurance until they are sick, which breaks the insurance business model and will result in bankruptcies.

Medicare and Medicaid stimulate demand. The government spends about HALF of all health care dollars, so any inefficiencies in these programs have MASSIVE effects. We almost certainly need a program to fill this need, but these programs are unlimited benefit programs that are riddled with waste, fraud, and abuse.

Even the states defraud these programs through a variety of schemes to bring federal dollars into the state. One famous example is doctors overcharge, and then "discover" the overcharge later and reimburse only the state, and pay a small penalty (the mob would call it a "piece of the action") to the state for their error. The doctors keep the federal overpayment, and the states tax them on the extra income and get the fee. Both profit at the expense of out of state taxpayers. When CMMS has tried to close this loophole, Congress has prevented them from doing so.

6) It would also greatly help if the states would embrace market reforms. Right now, most states have restrictive rules on the industry that raise costs such as licensing rules that prevent lesser trained, and therefore less expenseive, people perform tasks that are within their skill level. Many prohibit interstate competition which effectively creates less competition, and less competition means higher prices. There are dozens of small rules that have negative effects.

do other countries care about 9/11?

Kenya

I don't know too much about other countries views on it? do they really care that much at all?

Answer
I am an Australian. We do care.
Americans were not the only ones to die in 9/11. There were hundreds of people from other countries that also died in those attacks that day.

I watched the second plane hit one of the towers live on my tv screen. I was orginally watching the news when they had a newsflash. It was in the middle of the night in Australia when the attacks happened. The news continued to cross live to New York for over 6 hours. When I went outside the following day. Not many people had heard what happened. I felt like I had just been asleep and had a nightmare. Yet I never went to sleep, I just watched the tv.
By the next day everyone was talking about the attacks.

God bless the innocent souls that died that day.
