Why do they sell "rifle for kids" that shoots bullets that can kill a person? 5yo boy kills sister.?

Steve O

http://news.yahoo.com/5-old-boy-shoots-2-old-sister-ky-161229579.html

NRA is getting close to its goal.
2000 dead children and they will stop advocating for guns designed for kids.
@Face da Change: Don't be ridiculous.Have you ever seen a real knife(sharp, the one that can kill a person) to be advertised for kids ? Think before you speak Kim Jong...
@Huggy : These guns are specifically designed and sold for kids as a "toy".The foolish parents may think that's a toy and buy one for them.Check out the link I posted.

Answer
"The company's slogan is "my first rifle" and its website has a "Kids Corner" section where pictures of young boys and girls are displayed, most of them showing the children at shooting ranges and on bird and deer hunts. The smaller rifles are sold with a mount to use at a shooting range."

How is an item intended for hunting and shooting ranges a "toy"?

There is always a percentage of children who die simply because they are not properly supervised.

They die from guns, pools, cars, dogs, poisons, and falling out of windows, among other things.

Is it true that Miley Cyrus died?

 ziv !

Heard on the internet that pop star/actress, Miley Cyrus, died in a car accident. Is this true? I keep getting really mixed, wishy-washy answers. Does anyone know for sure?

Answer
no:Contrary to fast-spreading rumors planted by pranksters on Digg.com and Wikipedia, 15-year-old Miley Cyrus, pop singer and star of the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana TV series, did not die in a car crash on Friday, September 5.

As of Saturday morning, no such accident had been reported in any legitimate news source. The story is a hoax -- and a poorly spelled one, at that.

One version, attributed to "Rueters" [sic], reads as follows:
Actress Miley Cyrus Died in Terrible Car Accident

Teen star of the hit Disney television series "Hannah Montana" Miley Cyrus appears to have died in a tragic car accident in the early hours of Friday morning. The young starlet was on her way to the filiming [sic] of the upcoming "Hannah Montanna" [sic] Series when her vehicle was reportedly hit by a large truck. Witnesses estimate that the colliding vehicle was travelling [sic] at "At least 55mph" and had "Run a stop sign." Although rushed in a [sic] critical condition to Pacific Alliance Medical Centre [sic], the news broke quickly amongst reporters that the teen had succumbed to her injuries during surgery.
A very-much-alive Cyrus performed Friday night at the Fashion Rocks concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

should the guy that crashed in lose his voying rights? do you think he is a democrat or a republican?

Porn DVD Screams Prompt Sword 'Rescue'
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 12:53 PM EST
The Associated Press

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (AP) â A man says he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching.

"Now I feel stupid," said James Van Iveren, who has been charged in the case. "This really is nothing, nothing but a mistake."

http://adelphia.net/news/read.php?id=13473726&ps=931&lang=en

Answer
I definitely do not think that he should have been charged with a crime. My goodness what if a real rape had been occuring and the police came only after the entire act had occured and the perp had left? This should fall under the "good samaritan" ideal. James Van Iveren is a person who thought something terrible was going on, acted to stop it and should not be punished in "any way, shape, or form." I am also sure that James is the type of person who would pay for any damages he caused since he did try to "do the right thing" in the first place. I also think that he should not be embarrassed or feel stupid, because of this. If I could, I would give him a hug and tell him thanks for caring enough and for willing to put himself in harm's way for a stranger. As far as the police being called, even if he did have a phone, I would like to know, how many people would have wanted him to dial 911 and then just sit around thinking that he had done all he could? What if it had been REAL? What if it had been YOUR REAL Mother, wife, sister, girlfriend, female friend or your daughter? Thanks James!!!!! You are a HERO!!!!!

(As for the guy watching his porn too loud--yeah, I definitely agree with what he said in his interview that he would lower the volume or get some headphones. This should serve as a reminder to those "Loud Music/TV watchers" to knock the volume down a bit. I think that all people should be more respectful than to play their tvs, radios or whatever so loud that everyone around them can hear it----this goes for ANY loud music or tv, in cars, homes, anywhere really and especially when you are sharing walls or airspace with other people.

IN CNN TODAY: A case where neighbors heard and called 911, but did not act. Instead they relied on waiting for the police.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An internal affairs report detailing an Jacksonville Sheriff's
Office deputy's slow response to a 911 call for help in a child abuse case calls for the
officer's suspension, Channel 4 learned. Police were called to an Arlington apartment
complex on Dec. 4. However, 24 minutes passed after the first call for help from a
concerned neighbor -- who said it sounded as if the parents were trying to kill the child --
before the first police officer arrived. The child's mother, 21-year-old Brittane Stanard,
and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kahlil Mabuyi, were arrested after the incident. Both were
sailors on the USS John F. Kennedy and are facing an aggravated child abuse charge.
Investigators said the couple beat the 5-year-old girl for 30 minutes -- most of that time
after the first call was placed to 911. According to dispatchers, the first call came into the
911 center at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4:
Caller: "They are, like, trying to kill the child."
Operator: "Are they outside or inside the apartment?"
Caller: "No, they're inside but you can hear it through the door."
Operator: "OK, we'll get officers out there."
Fourteen minutes later, another neighbor called 911:
Caller: "I'd like to report a child being abused. Someone else called it in about 20
minutes ago, and police haven't gotten here yet."
A third call was placed four minutes later:
Caller: "The people upstairs are about to kill their daughter. They are beating her
and beating her and she is screaming. They won't stop. This has been going on."
Operator: "How old is the child?"
Caller: "She's like 4 or 5. They're throwing her around. I need to go up there."
Operator: "Ma'am, no, no, do not."
Caller: "It's been 25 minutes."
Operator: "Let the police handle that. You do not need to go up there and get shot
or hurt."
Caller: "OK. No, but she's going to die. If they keep hitting her like this, she's
going to die."
Operator: "Ma'am, the officers are on the way and in the area. Do not go up
there."
About 24 minutes after the first call for help, an officer arrived.
Police reports officers "observed welts and considerable swelling on both of the victim's
legs, both of her arms, both of her shoulders, her back, her stomach and her chest." The
lax response time to the call prompted an internal investigation. Two months later, the
investigation concluded that it took police too long to respond to the scene of the alleged
child abuse. The report states the officer G.E. Dobkin was less than 3 miles from the call
and did not follow the rules. It states that he was writing tickets instead of going to help
the girl, and that the officer was worried about getting in trouble for not finishing the
tickets. It said Dobkins changed the battery in progress call's priority 1 status --
emergency/life-threatening -- to an investigation call prior to arriving at the scene of the
incident.
The report also said the officer did not use his lights and siren while en route to the
Arlington apartment complex because he thought the call was routine and did not want to
put drivers in danger along University Boulevard during rush hour.
Finally, the report recommended the charges of failure to conform to work standards,
failure to take prompt action and incompetence against Dobkins be classified as sustained.

Fortunately, in this case this poor child did not die. But, I am sure that the child would have greately appreciated someone coming to her rescue even if it had "just been a neighbor" and not a police officer. Child, woman, man, no one should be left in danger because the "proper authorities" should be the ones to come to the person's rescue, because someone already did their part and called "911" or because someone is afraid of getting charges placed against them. Sometimes, non-police officers are the only ones who can make a difference. To James Van Iveren and to the child who saved my life when I was a toddler, "Thank-you with all my heart."

Help with english media! why news outlets do not immediately release the names of people who are injured/kiled?

Free2Siing

&& what are the clashes between conflict between the privacy rights of celebrities and the rights of journalists to meet the audienceâs desire for information

thank you SO muchh. <3

Answer
Not releasing the victim's name immediately is a courtesy to the family, so they won't learn about it from the radio or TV or some acquaintance calling and saying, "I just saw on Channel 101 that your husband was murdered!" Also, it guards against the possibility that the victim was misidentified in the beginning. Most news media are willing to extend this degree of courtesy, especially since it won't cost them anything.
Of course the media actually have the right to broadcast this information; but public indignation is something they wish to avoid, usually, so they don't. Besides, a lot of media personnel are decent people.
Celebrities have a lesser expectation of privacy than the average citizen. Nevertheless they do want some privacy. If a celebrity is killed in a car crash, it is less likely that the media will delay the identification.
So far we are talking about information that is not hidden or secret. But the real conflict begins when journalists actively spy or invade the privacy of celebrities, to get real or fake information. Even a celebrity has a reasonable expectation to be private in his/her home.
Journalists have been arrested for harassing people in their own homes; sometimes they feel it is worth a few hours in jail and a fine, to get the information and get paid for it.

What's your opinion on the VW Passat winning "Car of the Year"?

Q. I think it sucks!

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/2012-motor-trend-car-of-the-year--volkswagen-passat.html

Answer
Considering Motor Trend has given 'Car of the Year' to some real duds in the past, it doesn't mean much.

1971 - Chevy Vega
1980 - Chevy Citation
1981 - Plymouth K Car
1983 - Renault Alliance
1995 - Chysler Cirrus
1997 - Chevy Malibu
2000 - Lincoln LS
2001 - Chysler PT Cruiser
2005 - Chrysler 300

All big pieces of dog crap!

Why isn't anyone talking about Electric Cars??

VC

Is this the great secret that neither candidate talks about?
It looks like Israel is going 100% electric in a 3 year span
http://news.cnet.com/8301-11128_3-9854591-54.html. The companies
Renault-Nissan will be supplying their electric cars.
Also GM had the EV1 in 2000 in California with charging stations but big
oil got involved and GM took all EV1 cars back from their owners and crushed
every last one of them, watch "who killed the electric car" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vD33UMAtBY)
There are companies today like Tesla Motors that are making 100% electric
cars as well (www.tesla.com)
These car go over 200 miles per charge and over 80 mph!
With Solar, Wind and Charging stations wouldn't this make the most sense?
instead of talking about off shore drilling, or does Big Oil truly run our
country?
Your thoughts...

Answer
The alt fuels such as cng, hydrogen ,solar, & ethanol are in serious works now. But your right. Big oil killed all research or delayed it in the past. Now we are all suffering. However, the Chevy Volt will go into production soon. It's going to be another good two years I should think before everyone has an alt fuel car in production completely. We have plenty of cars & trucks that run on E85, but we need cars that are completely free of petrol use. As I have suggested before, oil will always be around until our deaths. But what you need to do is free yourself of oil dependancy. Buy one of those alt fuel cars. Or at least get one that gets really good fuel economy.

How Do I sell the Car?

John K

Need info on the following:

How do I sell car for MAXIMUM price.
it's a 2005 chevy equinox.
Do I sell to car dealer?
to Individual Buyer?
When I sell it how do I transport myself from wherever I sold it?
Does someone come by and look at hte car, buy it, and then I give them the keys?
How does "transferring of car title and license plates adn all that confusing overwhelming complexity" work?
Would I have to notify the DMV or the fed that someone bought the car? Whom would I have to notify?

Answer
You will get the most money it yourself to a private buyer. Expect about $2,000 more than a dealer will give you on trade. Keep in mind that if you trade it in in most states you don't pay sales tax on the value of your trade in which will reduce how much of the $2,000 you actually put in your pocket. Use Edmunds.com to determine what a fair price would be. Advertise the car on a site such as autotrader.com or craigs list or the classified section of your local newspaper.

People will contact you to make arrangements to inspect it and drive it. I'd recommend you go along on the test drive. I'd plan on letting them drive it 15-30 minutes. Some may want to have a mechanic inspect it. If so, you bring it to their mechanic. It's just not a good idea to let someone drive your car without your supervision. If they have an accident you are the one who's liable. If they blow the engine trying to see it it will do 100 MPH it's your loss.

If they decide to buy accept only cash. If they want to give you a cashiers check meet them at their bank to get the check. These days it is very easy to counterfeit a cashiers check. The bank will credit your account with the fake check but a week or two later you will be notified that the check was a fake and the bank will demand you repay the money.

They ordinarily will take the car when they give you the money. At that time it's their car. If you live in a state where the tags do not stay with the car remove your tags. Arrange to have someone pick you up at the bank or ask them to drive you home.

You sign the title over to them which legally completes the transaction. It is a good idea to have two copies of a bill of sale one for them one for you. The bill of sale should have the parties names, the date, a description of the car including the VIN, the sale price and make sure it says "car is sold as is". Both parties sign it.

All states have a form for you to sign notifying them that you sold the car. It avoids them contacting you in the future either for tax purposes or if the car has a problem since they will come to you based on the VIN. In some states it's a legal requirement to send in the form but even if it isn't it's a good idea.

The links will give you additional information.

What would you want to know about a car?

Caia

I'm trying to sell my car on craigslist.

What are some important things to a potential buyer? What are some of the cars stats / info that you'd like to know before you buy?

Answer
Of course, year, make, model, mileage, color, and any options that weren't standard on the base vehicle. I'd also mention if the vehicle has recently had new brake, tires, or any other major maintenance done.

And if you happen to have all the vehicle's maintenance records, be sure to list that too and be willing to provide them (and a summary thereof) if asked. Of course, you should also list any damage that you would have expected to be told about if you were looking for a car, especially if it's something your state requires be disclosed prior to purchase like the vehicle had been previously salvaged, totaled, or any other meaningful fact.

Don't forget to mention a price and whether or not you'll accept "best offers". And even though selling a car more-of-less implies that the title is "free and clear", it's better to say so up-front just to not let any doubt exist.

I'd also provide the VIN (vehicle identification number) so potential buyers can check the vehicle's history by CarFax.

Best of luck! I hope this helps!

do you recommend a BMW 335i xdrive over an infiniti G37 AWD?

Brian Turn

Why should I buy one over the other? What are the positives and negatives over each car?

Answer
Great question. I am a previous "owner" of a 2007 BMW 328I sedan, I now currently have a 2009 Infiniti G37 sedan. First off Infiniti is a great great great Luxury automobile. Admittingly I am a tad bit superficial and picky when it comes to purchasing/leasing a car. My previous Lease was a 2007 BMW 328i sedan, I can honestly tell you that when it comes to performance and luxury Infiniti hands down takes the title. I am very content with my 09 G37 sedan, it has been nothing but a dream so far. I currently have the Journey package on my G37, I decided not to opt for the Navi package seeing that I already had a GPS (Tom Tom) from the previous BMW I had. Anyway with or without the Navi package I still got the LCD screen on my G37, BMW never gave me that. It looks way more modern and sophisticated when compared to BMW's interior designs. Dont get me wrong I loved BMW but I thought the car lacked a little bit in the performance and luxury department for the money I was paying for monthly. Now Im paying about just $50 more then my previous lease and its well worth the little extra money for everything im getting standard in the G37. By the way the G37 sedan just got facelift and a few interior changes for 2010 and it looks amazing! The 2010 BMW 335Xi will cost you $42,600 (standard) and it will only produce 300 HP while the 2010 Infiniti G37X AWD sedan will produce 328 HP and it will cost you $37,000 (standard) and fully loaded will cost you $47,000-$50,000 while the BMW 335xi will cost you $51,000-$55,000 when fully loaded. Not to mention that when you opt for a Journey package on a 2010 Infiniti G37 sedan you will now get a Rear view camera and Rear sonar detection system standard on the G37 without opting for a Nav system. When i leased my 2009 G37 inorder to get the rear view camera you had to opt for the Navi package. My 2009 G37 Journey package included Handsfree Bluetooth, heated front seats, Diming rear view mirror, automatic tilt and teliscopic steering wheel and memory seats while in the 2010 G37 journey package now includes extras such as a rearview camera and rear sonar system. Although my previous BMW had xenon headlights I had to opt inorder to get them while all infiniti's come standard with Dual xenon headlight regardless of the package you choose. As you can tell i did my research before leasing the Infiniti, I couldnt be happier.

EDIT: Dont pay attention to the last guy he clearly doesnt no anything about Infiniti or BMW, he's just a BMW fanatic i highly doubt he is a personal owner of either. Infiniti will give you a loaner car with out charge, usually all luxury manufacturers do this such as Lexus, Infiniti, BMW and Mercedes. If you read into Infiniti they call it the "Infiniti Total Ownership Experience"

bmw m3 conversion question?

iluvjdm

hi i dont know much about BMW's... im a HONDA person. but im looking to get a 325i 2003, or any 3series between 00-02..

the question is can any of those cars front ends be converted to an M3?? or at least the front bumper?? heres a pic of the m3 look that i love but cant afford

http://www.tuning.sk/images/news/rieger_bmw_m3_27062007/rieger-bmw-e46-m3-text_1.jpg

THX

Answer
There are a host of body kits available for the 3 series. I believe the 03 bread n butter cars do have the M3 style headlights but keep in mind (and please correct my if I am wrong) the M3 has a wider track, hence the car's wide-bodied look. This means you will have to go far beyond just upgrading the body panels and get into supension and wheels. Your best bet? While I love E46's, buy a first generation M3 (86-93 or so) if you can find one. They have the 4-cyl block from BMW's F1 effort of the time, and produce around 195hp which is 20 more than an 03 325. Not to mention, they are classics.

Allergies + Dust storm = ARGH! ?

Xan & Zaqs

I live in Brisbane, Queensland, and we have been hit by a very severe dust storm. It is nearly impossible to see within 2 feet in front of you out here.

Now, the problem is, my 11 month old son has asthma, so it doesn't help that the dust is causing him to sneeze, cough and choke. I have tried shutting all the doors and windows, and even turning the air conditioning off, but it is not helping.. The only thing that seems to work is leaving him up in his room.. He went straight to sleep and there has been no problems from him since.. But, what if I need to bring him down again? What can I do?

It is forecast to get worse, and it doesn't help that his daddy is a delivery driver out in it.. =/

Please, help me figure out a way to help my baby. And to calm my fears of my partner.

Here is a picture of the storm if anyone is interested. =D

Thank you Kylie..
I feel a bit better now, and yes, my air con does have a exhaust function.. I will set that up now.
And asthma plan.. I have one written, but I was still a bit freaked out.. Thanks. =D

Answer
OMG i was watching sunrise and they were showing pics from it ... wow !
I have asthma , but i live in WA . lucky me .
does you air con have an exhaust function ...? try that , it might help suck all the dust back outside .
I would try keeping him in his room as much as possible .
Does ur son have an asthma plan ?
write your self a plan on what you will do if his asthma gets worse, that way if somethign does happen , you wont be running around at a loss at what to do ..

I did hear on the news that there has been no car accidents and everybody is driving very safely and there is no traffic congesting .
I think ppl are avoiding the roads .

Should film footage of Steve Irwin's final moments be destroyed? Shouldn't his children have the final say?

LOL

Steve Irwin's manager has said film footage of the ebullient TV naturalist's final moments should never be shown.

The tape was currently in police custody and should be destroyed, John Stainton told the CNN television network.

The tape apparently shows Mr Irwin pulling the barb left by a stingray's tail from his chest moments before his death.

"It should be destroyed," Mr Stainton said. "When that (tape) is finally released it will never see the light of day, ever.

"I actually saw it and I don't want to see it again," he said.
==============================

Shouldn't Steve Irwin's children have the choice to decide, once they are old enough, whether they want to see what happened to their dad in his final moments or not?

Or should that right to decide be taken away from them by Steve Irwin's manager, John Stainton?

Answer
The Guy is dead. Move On. What an insult to his living family all this rerunning of how wonderful he was and how everyone loved him. Very few of you knew anything about him except what the media prostitutes feed you to line their own pockets.

Television is an illusion; you know a moment in time and space.

Now I ask all you that talk about how much you learnt from him, what can you says with certainty you learnt, very little I bet! You were in love with a television persona. You talk about all the good work he did for conservation, remember Greenpeace, WWF, and hundreds of dedicated people that look after injured wildlife that is injured on the road or through shootings.

Steve Irwin didn't own the word conservation.

Hmmm and how come he called himself the "crocodile hunter" what is a hunter, look in the Webster dictionary it is âsomeone that hunts for subsistence or profitâ! Either way that doesn't sound like a conservation message.

Hmm and what about the chooks and meat he feed to his crocodiles and the mice he feeds to his snakes to entertain the visitors at his zoo, don't the chooks and mice have the right to live? Or are they excluded from Mr. Irwinâs campaign of conservation?

As to the video, given that he like to "play" with his friends as he called them, and who remembers Timothy Treadwell AKA Grizzly Man who sad he was the brown bears friends yet they ate him and his girlfriend. http://www.adn.com/front/story/4110831p-4127072c.html

I wouldn't be surprised if in fact he did grasp the stingray (given only two people are known to have died from their sting) but they want to destroy the video to protect themselves from public humiliation of people saying "I told you so" and with the Queensland Government thinking this guy dead or alive brings more money and tourist to the state they are going to shatter the dream run they have.

People saying how sick it is to want to watch it, personally I have no desire to watch it, I have been to war and seen death, I saw people die on 11 sept just to name a few....Remember the innocent victims who don't have the profile on a television

And again let me ask you misguided people, how many of you watch the news about murders, or slow at a car accident to have a look, how many are glue to the television to look at the twin towers falling, or watch war movies.

How many of you people hunt, or fish? How many of you would stop and help an injured animal on the side of the road?
I will bet most of you would be happy to turn you head and convince yourself that someone else can do it. When was the last time you gave something even your time to your local dog pound to help them or to a local wildlife shelter, I bet never!

Don't worry people the worlds wildlife won't suffer any less with Steveâs passing, I can only hope that genuine hard working volunteers might get a thought and much needed help by all you CONVERTED KNOWLEDGABLE people instead of providing a millionaire lifestyle and home to a demigod!

Yes little did you know that Mr Irwin lived in a 1.5 million dollar home on a private island in Queensland? Poor guy!!! Or that the Australian government gave Mr. Irwin a 2.6 million dollar grant in 2004 and then gave him another 2.4 million dollar grant in 2005, all tax payers money. As to buying land all over the world for national parks, dream on, he bought land but it is in his name and there for is privately owned land. He has never denoted land as national park or wildlife refuge.

His wife was what made him, if it wasn't for her and her intelligent business sense, Steve would still be running a rundown reptile park.

He has never contributed any scientific work for others to further the broader collective knowledge of saving wildlife.

I only hope his family can find peace far from all the media and the bleeding hearts people who believe this person was the only person doing a good job. All you have to do is some genuine honest research for your self to see much of your claims of being the only real conservationist are your lack of true understand.

degrassi 2011 spoilers?!?

Sportygurl

any would be great
especially about eli and clare!
i heard that a new girl sadie might come in and try to steal eli from clare
im sure the writers wouldnt break them up since theyre the most popular couple, but i still hope that some chick doesnt come in trying to ruin it all its kind of annoying
they already did that to clare with jenna, it'd be pushing it if they did that again

also in one of the promos there are two people in eli's car, he is in the passengers seat and a girl is driving, and she almosts hits someone. i paused at that part and noticed that girl had dark hair, it didnt seem to be clare.

does anyone have anymore info?
argh they better not mess with eclare!

Answer
I gurantee the girl in morty is clare. I don't think eli would trust anyone else to drive his car.
Alsoo, it you pause that scene at the right moment, you will see that the car crashes into non other then FITZ

Is the 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan leather-free?

Ernesto G

I'm looking for a nice 2011 compact car that doesn't contain animal products.

Thanks!

Answer
Hard to find info on the US model, but the aussie version has leather steering wheel and gear shift as standard. I'm assuming this will be the same in other international models although the model name is different (SLX instead of GSL) but this is because the driver sits on the right instead of the left side of the vehicle.

guides on cars?

Airis

i've recently become interested in building cars i was wondering if anyone knows where i can find some good guild on how to? also a guild on how to build a turbine engine would be helpfull lol...

Answer
I suggest you look into buying an inexpensive and easy to work on car that will also be fun to drive like a Miata or 240sx. Then join a forum that specializes in that car such as Miata.net or NicoClub. In the different parts of those forums, you can find out information on how to maintain and upgrade parts in the engine (including info on turbochargers), transmission, electrical, etc.

Its always a good idea to know how things work before diving in and modifying them, so I suggest you check out these links.

I want to fix a car....?

doo da doo

I want to fix up an old car in my dad's driveway, but i dont know how to. is it okay if i go to the library and find a book on how to fix a car?
the car is a cheverolet truck.

Answer
I recommend the Reader's Digest Guide to Car Maintenance and Repair.

It has many photos and illustrations + easy-to-follow step by step instructions.

It came out in the 1980s but most of the info is still relevant. Try a good library or search the web for it.

Can a stock G&G Combat Machine M4's internal's handle a Madbull M110 spring?

Pieman

I'm saving up some money to overhaul my m4 and planning to install a 6.01mm barrel, a new bucking, spacer and spring. I'm pretty sure the barrel, bucking, and spacer will install just fine; although, I'm a bit concerned about whether or not the stock internals can handle a stronger spring. I don't want blow $40 on a new spring only to spend more money on f***ed up internals. If anyone has any insight on this, your help would be much appreciated.

Do you think that this website is telling the truth?

http://www.mindfully.org/Sustainability/Americans-Consume-24percent.htm

Answer
Partly. The information appears to be factually true but it does not tell the whole story.

Mindfully.org tends to select only news stories and articles that support it's perspective and excludes articles that challenge it's perspective. For example they have dozens of articles on oil price spiking (supporting their argument for wastefulness) but no articles on oil price falling (which would challenge their argument).

Also, mindfully.org does not correctly account for population. Imagine one American family with two parents and two kids has a car. Their energy use is one car / four people = 0.25 Now imagine one Indian family has two parents and six kids. Their energy use is one car / eight people = 0.125. According to mindfully.org, India is better than the USA.

However the same amount of energy is being consumed, and in fact India is in worse shape because having many kids will lead to overpopulation, and greater energy consumption in the future. USA has a high usage "per person" because we have much fewer people than India, China, etc.

Major news events in 1984?

scarlettoh

My son is doing a school project to find out what was going on in the world when I and my mother were both 10 years old. This would place me in the fall of 1984. I have tried racking my brain and the only major news event that I was able to come up with was the Olympics in Los Angeles. I need three more major news events. Can amyone give me some clues or a website I can go to? Thanks!

Answer
Here's my picks:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984

September 20 - Hezbollah car bombs the U.S. embassy annex in Beirut, killing 22 people.

November 6 - U.S. presidential election, 1984: Ronald Reagan defeats Walter F. Mondale with 59% of the popular vote, the highest since Richard Nixon's 61% victory in 1972. Reagan carries 49 states in the electoral college; Mondale wins only his home state of Minnesota by a mere 3,761 vote margin and the District of Columbia.

December 3 - Bhopal Disaster: A methyl isocyanate leak from a Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, kills more than 2,000 people outright and injures anywhere from 15,000 to 22,000 others (some 6,000 of whom later die from their injuries) in one of the worst industrial disasters in history.

Is it morally acceptable for TV News Broadcasters to air graphic violence?

David

Is it morally acceptable for TV News Broadcasters to air graphic violence, such as police shootings, car chases, and so on, on live TV? Why or why not?

Answer
News is an entertainment business, not an information business. They want viewers, pure and simple. If shock sells to the sponsors then that's what they will show. They just need to stay as credible as it takes to keep viewers. THe rest is up for grabs. Don't believe anything you read and about half of what you see. The odd thing... I am an optimist...lol

what should i do with this car i just bought ... HELLLP PLAESE?

MotherNatu

heres my story:
i just bought this car out of desperation, its a 1993 olds mobile, kinda old im holding the title with expired tags, well im kinda regreting this large purchase (today) , i guess i wanna get rid of it, so how can i do that i cant put the ad back in the newspaper that would be weird (rite?). is there a way to pawn it or get cash for it, im located in western part of Colorado help i dont know what i just got myself into ....
this is my frist car Ever! , can i return it too her i now see that she did'nt sign the title compleatly/ properly..

Answer
First of all, I live in Colorado and I've worked in the car business here for years. I can tell you that you don't owe any back taxes on the previous owner's expired plates. Those aren't YOUR plates, so it's not YOUR problem. That might be true in other places, but not here.

Second of all, you really should title the car yourself before you try and sell it. The good news is that you don't actually have to register the car to title it - you can title it for about $15 + whatever sales tax you owe. That shouldn't be more than a couple hundred dollars (hopefully much less). No big deal that way and you're 100% legal.

While you're titling your car, you can request a temporary tag too. I think they'll give you a 30 day temp for $2.50. That gives you a month to sell it without having to pay registration (might be a little different where you're at, but that's how it is in the Denver metro).

Pawning your car isn't a good idea. They won't give you much and it never really works out in the consumer's favor.

Craigslist is easily the best place to sell this car of yours. I would suggest you list it immediately. Put up some photos and get it listed. Make sure your ad says "cash only" and sell it to anyone with a reasonable offer.

Finally, as for insurance, again the info you've been given isn't 100% correct. If the person test driving your car has insurance, the car is covered. Insurance (in Colorado at least) follows both the insured driver and the car. That's why Colorado residents should never buy rental car insurance. Every CO resident is already covered by their personal policy.

Just make sure whoever test drives your car has insurance. Ask to see proof of insurance (not to mention a driver's license). You probably want to hold some collateral too.

The link below has some good tips for selling your car yourself.

Car vs Truck Frame?

Great Whit

Other than the obvious difference in length, what is the difference between a car frame and a truck frame? And why do they "ride" differently?

Answer
A few things I would also add to what some have mentioned previously....

BOF "Body on Frame"... Just imagine the whole body, seats, dashboard, benches, doors/roof, all just being pulled upwards, and placed on a frame which hs the mechanicals...shocks, engine, tires, etc.

Unibody, it's a complete skeleton like most cars... currently there's only one passenger car which is "Body on Frame" that is the Ford Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car. They are build on a frame, which is why they are popular with taxi fleets, police depts...you can throw one on a curb, and not think twice about it...you can't do that with an Impala or Magnum. So if your in a situation where you must HIT a vehicle, don't pick this, pick a Toyota or Kia.

But overall like anything else, they both have their advantages, and disadvantages. The truck is much more durable, specifically if the frame is open "C" channel, or fully boxed. A good example if the Ford F-150, it's totally boxed. Now the new Tundra, chose to go with an open "C" channel, which isn't really recommended for serious work, and as it is, it only got 4 stars in the governments crash testing days ago.

Also, the tighter and solid the frame, the quieter and much more solid the shocks work. Less shake/flex in the body, just a much more durable and quieter product...which is why the F-150 leads in quietness and handling.

Now as comparison, take a Honda Ridgeline which is car based unibody, which supposedly Honda's news release tried alot of spin saying it's not a car platform, but I've disected the vehicle, and yes...it's an Oddysey with a few more structural members. What happens is, to get the vehicle to be a bit more rugged, the Unibody construction requires much more reinforcement...in turn, causing what otherwise would be a platform of a car that weights around 3000lbs, increase a good 1500lbs more and still, it's no where near as capable. Case in point, the towing/hauling capacity is almost carlike, reports of shock failures are pretty high, etc.

Also, Body on Frame construction is cheaper to produce overall. Ford is making about $10-15K profit on each F-150, while the Ridgeline is not meeting sales expectations, requiring rebates and it's cheapest model is around $5-6K more than a regular BOF truck, not allowing Honda to post much of a profit to where they have been thinking of possibly discontinuing the vehicle in 2-3 years.

I'm going to give you a link, which compares the F-150 with many of the competitors and the video is pretty interesting, in small 2 minute video scenes, which describe the benefits of it's frame, how it compares to others...everything down to showing you what the frame is, what it looks like, the bolts used, etc. It's pretty interesting learn.

Hope that helps ;-)

Why is television so Queensland focused?

Jay D

The news is so Queensland oriented. Not just recently, but always. I live in NSW and half the time, it seems like I'm in Queensland. Victoria gets a mention every now and then. But you would often thing you live in Queensland.

I rarely ever notice the other states being mentioned.

Answer
A lot of the time, yes, but in Melbourne we always hear about news happening in Sydney. But that's almost always about drive by shootings, fights or car crashes. All the news on QLD is about rain, floods and the election.

How did the man really drive the car blindfolded?

This morning (June 08, 2011) Fox 5 news in San Diego, CA, featured a "magician" driving a car blindfolded. The report stated that the man was truly blindfolded as well as hooded as he drove the car around what seemed like a parking lot full of cars. Who can come up with the method this man used to pull off this stunt?

Answer
Was he asian? If so, the blindfold probably wouldn't make a difference.

Answer
He could see through the blindfold. Probably under it by looking down. The only real way to make sure someone can't actually see is to tape their eyelids shut. Looking around a blindfold and/or hood is one of the first tricks magicians learn.

I want to transfer money to you to keep for me,you can make as much as Five million dollars quietly.Reply for info

Answer
100% scam.

There is no banker at some overseas bank who suddenly found a dormant account with millions yet can't find a single relative of the account owner who managed to die suddenly in a plane/train/car accident or whatever natural disaster was just on the world news and didn't leave a will. Now this highly educated executive who writes like an 8 year old, must have a foreign partner to help him move this newly discovered wealth to any bank in any other country before his government seizes the cash.

There is only one scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money by using a fake story, stolen pictures, stolen information on a natural disaster and copied links from a legit website, all while pretending to be several different people all with free email addresses.

The next email was from one of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "minister/banker/barrister" and has demanded you pay for made-up money transfer, document, certificate, stamp and bank fees, in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

You could post up the email address and the emails themselves that the scammer is using, it will help make your post more googlable for other suspicious potential victims to find when looking for information.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google "fake next-of-kin scam", "fraud inheritance bank Western Union scam", "fake Ghana refugee scam", "fraud romance scammer" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

There was a news story about a new version of the common cold that is so virulent it kills about 7 - 9% of the people who get it, geez just when I thought -- Good I haven't gotten sick from Bird flu, now I have to worry about sneezing and coughing from colds.
unfortunately since Sept. 11th I feel obligated to turn on the news sporadically to make sure we're not being attacked again.

Answer
Lately, the news has been very grim.

I try not to listen to it on a daily basis.

And to make matters worse, the number of foreclosures is skyrocketing daily.

So that means, Americans will no longer be watching the news in the privacy of their own homes, they'll be listening to it in their cars.

Lest the repoman doesn't haul the vehicles away, while Americans sleep.

car stereo - radio song title display?

Q. i just bought a new car stereo. i wanted one that would display the song title of the song that played on the radio. i noticed some stations it shows the title but not on others. does the station have to be in HD in order for it to do this? or what are the factors?

Answer
hi, its simply a matter of the station. some stations, usually higher budget ones, sned out info like, song title, artist etc with the music, hence it plays or you. most stations however don't as its an unnecessary cost.

btw if you have a iphone or android phone, use an app called soundhound. it listens to the music for 3-4 sec and will reply you with artist, song name and any other info it finds.

Must have android thing?

BenLinus56

So I got the HTC Desire HD yesterday, and I would like to know some apps or features that I must get. I just got Swype and I don't know what else to get. Any help?

Answer
The best way to view my list of the top Android apps is in the screenshot gallery. However, you can also view my top 25 in the list below.
The screenshots

The list

1. Google Voice

Google Voice is a service that is so useful I consider it one of the top benefits of Android itself, especially since Apple rejected the Google Voice app for the iPhone. It gives you a phone number that can ring to multiple places or devices and it allows you to access all of your voicemail and text messages over the Web. The Android app integrates even deeper. It can make outgoing calls look like theyâre coming from your Google Voice number so that you can keep your real mobile number private.

2. Advanced Task Killer

One of the realities of having a multitasking mobile OS in Android is that you have to manage your apps so that they donât hurt performance or battery life. Advanced Task Killer (or ATK) is my favorite. It even comes with a widget that you can tap once to kill all open apps.

3. Dropbox

Dropbox is a great cloud service that automatically syncs a folder of files between multiple computers (Windows, Mac, or Linux). This app extends Dropbox to Android and interacts with other apps (such as Documents To Go) to open the files.

4. Evernote

Once you get used to typing on a virtual keyboard (and it honestly took me over a year to do it), then these devices are great for note-taking, and Evernote is a great note-taking app. It is similar to Dropbox in that it saves data locally but syncs it across all your machines and devices.

5. DroidAnalytics

For some reason Google doesnât have an official app (for either Android or iPhone) for Google Analytics. The best one Iâve found on Android is DroidAnalytics. Another good one is mAnalytics.

6. Documents To Go

The free version of Documents To Go offers a great little reader for Word and Excel files. You can upgrade to the full version (for $15) if you want to edit files and add PowerPoint files to the mix. If you do want editing capability, Iâd also recommend taking a look at QuickOffice.

7. Amazon Kindle

I never warmed up to the Amazon Kindle e-reader, but Iâm a big fan of the Kindle mobile app. Since it was released Iâve read a lot more books simply because my smartphone is always with me and I can pull it and read a few pages anytime Iâve got a couple minutes free.

8. Places Directory

This is an awesome app for finding shops and services near your current location. From restaurants to movie theaters to medical facilities to taxis, this app is very accurate and takes advantage of the business information from Google Local. This app is better than the info you get from a GPS unit (or app) and better than any of the similar apps available on the iPhone.

9. Tripit

I dig Tripit. It is by far the best app Iâve found for keeping track of all my travel itineraries. It runs on some great backend systems. You simply forward your confirmation emails for your flights, hotels, rental cars, and more to Tripit and it automatically organizes them into trips with all your details and confirmation numbers.

10. Seesmic

Twitter is an amazing instant-intelligence engine and it was made for mobile browsing. Although thereâs an official Twitter app for Android now, Seesmic is still the best Android Twitter client.

11. FCC Speedtest

Iâm obsessed with running speed tests to check my bandwidth in various places, both to see 3G fluctuations and to check the quality of Wi-Fi. There are a number of really good speedtest apps, but my new favorite is the FCC Test app.

12. Astro File Manager

Another one of the great things about Android (if youâre a geek or a tinkerer) is that you have lower-level access to the system itself. Astro is an app that lets you navigate the Android file system.

13. Got To Do

There are plenty of to-do apps to choose from on Android but I prefer Got To Do because of the solid interface and the fact that it can sync with the online service Toodledo.

14. Gist

Many of us have contact lists scattered across various computers, devices, and online services. Gist is a Web service that can bring them together and even pull in stuff from the Web to help you stay up to date with your most important contacts. Thereâs an Android app as well as an iPhone app.

15. TED Mobile

TED is a fascinating event that features a meeting of the minds of some of societyâs most influential thinkers. Youâll definitely disagree with some of them, because thereâs a large diversity of opinions, but many talks are worth listening to. What I love is that theyâve taken the videos from their conference and made them freely available on the Web. This app provides a great way to access the videos. I hope more conferences follow TEDâs lead on this.

The End Is Coming in '2012'?
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/2012-roland-emmerich.html
Few people have destroyed the world more than Roland Emmerich. In his mega-hit "Independence Day," aliens laid waste to pretty much every metropolitan center on the planet, and in his eco-thriller "The Day After Tomorrow," much of the northern hemisphere finds itself buried under ice. In his third crack at presenting the apocalypse, this fall's "2012," Emmerich taps into the angst of thousands of astrologers, doomsday enthusiasts, and conspiracy theorists who fear that a massive cataclysm will strike the earth on December 21 of that year. Yet unlike previous dates tied to the Earth's expiration, this one has its roots in various sources throughout history including interpretations of the Mayan calendar, astrology, and the ancient Chinese fortune-telling text the "I-Ching."

Though the plot is fictional, this scenario has occurred many times in the real world. In 1997 Michael Drosnin published a best-selling book titled "The Bible Code," in which he claimed that the Bible contained a code (hidden in numbers and letters) accurately predicting past world events. Drosnin's work was later refuted, with critics demonstrating that the "meanings" he found were simply the result of selectively choosing data sets from a vast sea of random letters.

Similar "hidden codes" were found in other books such as "Moby Dick" and "War and Peace," demonstrating that any sizeable text can produce such codes if you look long enough.

In psychology, the tendency for the human mind to find coincidences, patterns, and connections in random data is called apophenia.

Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data. The term was coined in 1958 by Klaus Conrad,[1] who defined it as the "unmotivated seeing of connections" accompanied by a "specific experience of an abnormal meaningfulness".
