Car vs Truck Frame?

Great Whit

Other than the obvious difference in length, what is the difference between a car frame and a truck frame? And why do they "ride" differently?

Answer
A few things I would also add to what some have mentioned previously....

BOF "Body on Frame"... Just imagine the whole body, seats, dashboard, benches, doors/roof, all just being pulled upwards, and placed on a frame which hs the mechanicals...shocks, engine, tires, etc.

Unibody, it's a complete skeleton like most cars... currently there's only one passenger car which is "Body on Frame" that is the Ford Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car. They are build on a frame, which is why they are popular with taxi fleets, police depts...you can throw one on a curb, and not think twice about it...you can't do that with an Impala or Magnum. So if your in a situation where you must HIT a vehicle, don't pick this, pick a Toyota or Kia.

But overall like anything else, they both have their advantages, and disadvantages. The truck is much more durable, specifically if the frame is open "C" channel, or fully boxed. A good example if the Ford F-150, it's totally boxed. Now the new Tundra, chose to go with an open "C" channel, which isn't really recommended for serious work, and as it is, it only got 4 stars in the governments crash testing days ago.

Also, the tighter and solid the frame, the quieter and much more solid the shocks work. Less shake/flex in the body, just a much more durable and quieter product...which is why the F-150 leads in quietness and handling.

Now as comparison, take a Honda Ridgeline which is car based unibody, which supposedly Honda's news release tried alot of spin saying it's not a car platform, but I've disected the vehicle, and yes...it's an Oddysey with a few more structural members. What happens is, to get the vehicle to be a bit more rugged, the Unibody construction requires much more reinforcement...in turn, causing what otherwise would be a platform of a car that weights around 3000lbs, increase a good 1500lbs more and still, it's no where near as capable. Case in point, the towing/hauling capacity is almost carlike, reports of shock failures are pretty high, etc.

Also, Body on Frame construction is cheaper to produce overall. Ford is making about $10-15K profit on each F-150, while the Ridgeline is not meeting sales expectations, requiring rebates and it's cheapest model is around $5-6K more than a regular BOF truck, not allowing Honda to post much of a profit to where they have been thinking of possibly discontinuing the vehicle in 2-3 years.

I'm going to give you a link, which compares the F-150 with many of the competitors and the video is pretty interesting, in small 2 minute video scenes, which describe the benefits of it's frame, how it compares to others...everything down to showing you what the frame is, what it looks like, the bolts used, etc. It's pretty interesting learn.

Hope that helps ;-)

Why is television so Queensland focused?

Jay D

The news is so Queensland oriented. Not just recently, but always. I live in NSW and half the time, it seems like I'm in Queensland. Victoria gets a mention every now and then. But you would often thing you live in Queensland.

I rarely ever notice the other states being mentioned.

Answer
A lot of the time, yes, but in Melbourne we always hear about news happening in Sydney. But that's almost always about drive by shootings, fights or car crashes. All the news on QLD is about rain, floods and the election.

What happened on Young and the Restless and As the World Turns last week?

Q. I was in Quebec last week and didn't see it. I know that the previous friday David Chow was planning to kill Nikki and someone wanted to finish him and Nikki off and mistook Sebrina for Nikki, and that Sebrina died. I didn't see it yesterday either. Who's body did they find today?

All I know about last week on As the World Turns is that the two children got caught doing each other.

Answer
Y&R: Week of July 25th
Monday, July 28, 2008

Michael informs Victor that Nikki and David's limo was in an accident and Victor's first instinct is to be by Nikki's side. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Nikki comes into the hospital unconscious and Paul and J.T. stand by as the doctors work on her. At the gala, Phyllis and Nick get into another fight regarding Amber as Nick and Victoria get the news that Nikki has been rushed to the hospital. At the crash site, Sabrina lays inside the limo, lifeless. Michael and Victor arrive at the crash site. An officer tells them that David probably won't make it and the only woman in the crash was taken to the hospital. As Victor looks into the limo he remembers his life with Nikki, until he finds one of Sabrina's earrings. Later, Victor demands David tell him if Sabrina was in the car with him and with his last moment of life, David nods. As Nikki wakes up, Paul tells her that David drugged her and the reality of the situation hits Nikki hard. Moments later, Nick, Victoria and Phyllis arrive to see Nikki and are horrified to learn that David tried to kill Nikki. Daniel goes to the penthouse to find Amber packing. She tells him that she is moving back to Los Angeles. Daniel tells her that he plans to move to L.A. also. Daniel opens up to Amber but Phyllis interrupts them when she calls to tell Daniel about Nikki. Later, Daniel apologizes to Amber for everything Phyllis put her through while he was gone. He asks her not to move to Los Angeles because he would be lost if they never saw each other again. Nick, and Victoria rush into see Nikki and Paul tells them everything about David's past. He gets a call and informs Nikki that David was in an accident and that he died. Nikki asks her children to leave and once they are gone Paul tells her that Sabrina was in the car with David. J.T. tells Nick, Victoria and Phyllis that Sabrina was in the car with David and that she is in the I.C.U. Victoria tries to rush to find Sabrina and tell her that she was wrong about everything but J.T. stops her. Later, Paul tells Nikki not to worry about anything regarding David anymore; he will take care of it. While at Sabrina's side, Victor learns that Sabrina lost the baby. The doctor enters and informs Victor that Sabrina's liver was lacerated and she doesn't have much time to live. Victoria comes in to try and talk to Victor and Sabrina but in his pain he lashes out at her. Moments later, Sabrina wakes up. Nick advises Phyllis to work things out with Daniel, so that she doesn't end up with the same relationship that he has with Victor. Meanwhile, Amber asks Daniel what is going on between them. Later, Daniel tells Amber that he is home, if she wants him. Phyllis comes by to talk to Daniel but they refuse to answer the door for her. Victoria pleads with Nick to go support Victor in his time of need. Meanwhile, Sabrina realizes that she lost her baby and from Victor's voice can tell that she is dying. As Victor promises not to let her die, Nikki overhears their conversation.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Kay comes to offer Victor support and learns that Nikki was brought in on a drug overdose last night. Kay goes to get some answers as Nick comes to see Victor. In the E.R., Nikki learns that David tried to kill her using morphine and yet she is still devastated that she lost David. While Jill and Brad work on how to deal with the fall out of David's gambling problem being made public, the news comes on and they learn that David was killed. A paparazzi shows Jack photos of Sabrina being removed from the limo after the crash and offers to sell them to Jack for a high price. Outraged at first, Jack finally buys exclusive rights to the photos to keep them from being published elsewhere. Later, Jack tells Sharon that he feels responsible for what happened to Sabrina. Victoria and J.T. return to the hospital to pick up Nikki, just as the doctor is informing her and Paul that it was morphine in her toxicology report. In Victor's absence, Adam steps into his place at Newman Enterprises. Meanwhile, Victor tells Nick that he isn't wanted but Nick refuses to leave his father's side. Michael, meanwhile, tries to find a specialist for Sabrina's case. Later, Neil arrives and Michael tells both Nick and Neil that Sabrina was pregnant. Kay comes to Victoria and J.T.'s to see Nikki and learns that David tried to poison Nikki. Paul comes in and informs them that a vial of liquid morphine was found on David's body. While hearing this news, Nikki is overcome with sadness. Moments later, as Paul, Nikki, J.T., Victoria, and Kay work out the events of the evening and learn that David killed Ji Min, Victoria realizes that if they had all made even one choice differently they could have prevented everything. Brad and Jill, still believe that Nikki is in I.C.U. and decide to hold a press conference to appoint an interim C.E.O. for Jabot. Later, Kay tells Nikki that someone leaked David's gambling problem to the press and that her future at Jabot is in serious jeopardy. Adam panics when he reads an article that Skye has been reported missing. Meanwhile, Victor asks Neil to take over for him at Newman Enterprises while he fights to save Sabrina. Later, Adam is surprised when Neil tells him that he will be taking over for Victor. Neil advises Adam to go to the hospital to be with his father. Jack and Sharon battle with whether or not to send out a fourth printing of the magazine. Sharon tells Jack that she is proud of him. Meanwhile, Sabrina tries to be strong for Victor but as they are talking about the future, Sabrina crashes. Later, Jack and Sharon green-light a fourth printing of the magazine. Brad is furious when Jill informs him that he will not be named C.E.O. of Jabot. Later, Jill holds a press conference to announce she is taking over Jabot. Victor is glad to see Adam at the hospital. While Victor and Michael consult with the liver specialist, Nick and Adam wait together. Later, Adam wonders why Nick is still here if Victor doesn't want him. Nick tells him that one day Victor will forgive him and then Nick will be there for him. Victoria and Nikki feel terrible when Kay tells them that Sabrina was pregnant. The specialist tells Michael that they won't give Sabrina a new liver because she won't survive long enough. Nick refuses to allow them to tell Victor because he has to hold on to hope.

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Amber is overjoyed when she and Daniel wake up after having spent the night together but is crushed when she asks him about moving back in and Daniel tells her to slow down. Later, Daniel tells Amber he is trying to deal with her betrayal. Cane and Lily are talking about Chloe's stunt at the gala, saying that she is pregnant with Cane's child when they learn that David is dead and Sabrina is in the hospital. Meanwhile, Cane calls Kay to tell her that Jill gave a press conference and assumed control of Jabot. Later, Chloe photo-shops her first sonogram, changing the date. Paul learns that the car accident may not have been an accident after all. Later, Heather arrives at the crash site and Paul tells her that David killed Ji Min. Jeff and Gloria realize that, with the scandal, Jabot stock will plummet and they can buy it up much easier. Gloria decides that she needs to get on Brad's good side to get inside information on Jabot. Victoria continues to feel guilty about the way she treated Sabrina and she decides she has to see Sabrina before it's too late. Meanwhile, Nick tells Phyllis that they are staying on the ranch. Later, Victoria refuses to leave when Victor demands that she leave Sabrina's room. However, Sabrina wakes up and tells Victor that she wants to see Victoria. Chloe stops by with a birthday cake and Amber realizes that it is her birthday. Chloe tells Amber that she is pregnant with Cane's child. Later, Chloe suggests that Amber get pregnant to hold onto Daniel. Kay confronts Jill and Brad at Jabot but before they can get into anything Nikki arrives, showing Jill that she isn't going anywhere. Paul tells Heather everything he knows abut David and Walter and Heather recognizes Walter from the gala. Heather manages to I.D. the limo driver as the man Walter was talking to in the parking lot at the gala. At the hospital, Daniel talks to Nick about his problems with Amber. Meanwhile, Phyllis visits Amber at the penthouse and promises to stay out of her relationship with Daniel. Later, Nick advises Daniel to take some time alone, and figure out who he is. Sabrina and Victoria are overcome with emotion as they remember their past together and finally reconnect. Paul tells Nikki that he doesn't believe that the accident was an accident; that Walter had David murdered. Nikki tells him to continue his investigation but to not say anything to Victor. However, unwittingly, J.T. tells Victor that Walter is responsible for the accident and for Sabrina's condition. Jeff secretly buys Jabot stock for him and Gloria, as well as for himself. Meanwhile, Gloria buys stock in Jabot under her own name as well. Chloe gives Lily the sonogram of the baby but Lily rips it up. Heather informs Jill, Cane and Kay that she believes David killed Ji Min. Meanwhile, reporters at Jabot accost Nikki. Daniel tells Amber that they should go back to being just friends. Victoria apologizes to Victor and reaches out to him but he vows to make whoever is responsible for the crash pay.

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Amber is shocked when Daniel tells her that he can't go back to the way things were. Daniel tells Amber that it is killing him to walk away from her but he doesn't believe he can ever get passed what she did with Adrian. Victor is desperate to believe that Sabrina is healing. Jana and Kevin arrive and Jana goes to visit with Sabrina while Victor tells a skeptical Nick, Michael and Adam

Honda Accord or Toyota Camry?

data

Looking for a nice family car under $15,000, so I'm looking at a late ('06 or newer) model used Camry or Accord 4 cylinder. What you get and why? Is one safer? More reliable? Less expensive to repair?

Answer
Well you have rounded the choice down to two worthy adversaries. Both cars are very well made but I would have to side with Honda on this dilemma you are in for the simple matter that Honda is better. Honda was awarded #5 Best in Overall Quality by JD Power. Let Me just list the Pros and Cons

2006 Honda Accord:
Pros:
- 4-cylinder engine was the new K-series
- An Excellent 5-speed automatic transmission offers acceleration with Great Fuel economy (Low RPM Cruising)
- 4-cylinder Honda Accord is the first production car in the world to meet California's Super Ultra Low Emission standards
- New rear end styling compated to 2003 Model
- LED taillights
- Daytime running lights
- Heated side mirrors for EX models
- Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), also known as Electronic Stability Control
- New wheel designs
- New steering wheel cover
- Differently colored gauges
- Differently styled shift knob for automatic transmission models
- 4-cylinder engine's horsepower was increased to 166HP
- The 4-cylinder engines were now controlled with Drive-By-Wire (DBW), rather than a throttle cable, providing for smooth operation and enhanced throttle response.
- Excellent Interior Quality
- Comfortable Seating makes it perfect for long trips

Cons:
- Seats have a carpet like pattern
- Honda has been criticized for having road noise but consumers do say they do not notice

I really do not want to bother put the pros and cons for the Toyota Camry since the 2006 Camry and 2007 Camry are different and the list would take forever to type and because Toyota really copies much of what Honda does and I do not like them. They also have been sued for patent infringement and Toyota Executives told News Reporter that Toyota has buried much of their accident statistics so they would not have to pay the many people who have been injured from their vehicles but I will give you a list of cars near your price range:

Used Sedans (These cars will be Roomy and around 20,000):
2005-2008 Cadillac STS V6/V8 (RWD 0-60 5.9-7sec)(Best Buy: Cadillac is number 3 in overall quality and reliability and the STS has all leather interior with excellent exterior and interior design and most importantly american made)
2007 Infiniti G35 Sedan (RWD 0-60 5.8 sec)
2001-2007 Lexus LS 430 (RWD 0-60 5.9 sec)(#5 Best Used Car Buy by Automobile Magazine)
2005-2008 Chrysler 300C (RWD 0-60 7.5 sec) (#7 BestBuy for Used Cars)
2008 Honda Accord LX/LX Premium (FWD 0-60 7.7 sec)
2006 Lexus IS 250 ( RWD 0-60 7.9 sec)
2004-2008 Acura TL (FWD 0-60 6.5 sec) (Technically American because Acura is only in America and was intended for the US by Honda)
2005-2008 Dodge Charger SXT/R/T/SRT-8 (RWD 5.7-6.8 sec)
2000-2005 Lexus IS 300 (RWD 0-60 7.8 sec)
2003-2008 Mercury Grand Marquis (RWD 0-60 8.7 sec) (#2 Most Reliable Car in the United States to this date and has side crash testing at speed of 70 mph instead of 30)
1998-2007 Ford Crown Victoria (RWD 0-60 8.9 sec)
2004-2006 Audi A6 (RWD 0-60 6.5 sec)
2002-2006 Jaguar X Type (RWD 0-60 7.4 sec)
2000-2005 Jaguar S Type (RWD 0-60 7.3 sec)
2003-2007 Cadillac CTS (RWD 0-60 6.8 sec) (Looks were controversial because of so many sharp angles buy is came out alright)

what happened on yesterday's Y&R?

~Miss_M

Monday July 28th, 2008, can anyone give me a full recap?

Answer
Paul takes Nikki to the hospital, Sabrina and David are taken from the crash, Daniel won't let Amber go.

At the ranch, Victor is calling around and blackening Philippe's name with art dealers while waiting for Sabrina to get home. Michael comes in and breaks the news that Nikki and David's limo has crashed. He offers to go and check it out first but Victor is insistent on going along. He calls Sabrina to tell her that he is going to check on Nikki.

At the scene of the accident, Victor and Michael crawl down and are told that the driver is dead and a woman has been rushed off. Victor looks inside the car. "I told you not to get involved with this man," he says as he flashes back to through his past with Nikki. He notices a piece of jewelry and picks it up. Horrified, he walks over to David and asks if Sabrina was in the car with him. He nods and gasps. Michael rushes Victor to the hospital.

Paul rushes Nikki to the hospital. She begins convulsing. Paul and JT are pushed out so the doctors can treat her. After she is stabilized, Paul is allowed to see her. She wakes up confused. He explains that she was drugged by David.

Phyllis stops Daniel before he can leave the gala. She wants to talk about Amber. "You can't stay out of my business can you?" he shakes angrily. He can't tell her enough times to stay out of his life. He storms off. Nick and Victoria rush out saying that Nikki has just been taken to the hospital.

They rush over to the hospital and meet JT. He tells them what's happened and takes Victoria inside to see her mother. Nick follows but Phyllis stays behind to call Daniel. Nikki tells her children that she can't believe what's happened with David. They thank Paul. He explains David's sordid dealings to them. Paul gets a call: David's dead, he announces. Nikki asks to be left alone, but she tells Paul to stay. She doesn't know why she feels like crying over the man who tried to kill her. "What would I do without you?" she says. "That's what friends are for," Paul says before explaining that Sabrina was in the car with David.

Nick, Victoria and Phyllis sit around the waiting room. Nick explains the David mess. JT comes out and announces that Sabrina was in the car with David. Victoria feels horrible; she was trying to apologize and now may never have the chance. "I have to see her," she says. JT sits her down and tells her that he wants to see her mend their relationship, but now isn't the time.

Victor sits at Sabrina's side. He announces that he will be taking her home. He asks her why she didn't wait for the car and promises to make her better. She's unconscious. He pulls back the sheet and stares at her belly. Michael brings the doctor in. He tells them that she is in no condition to be moved. Victor asks about the baby. "I'm very sorry," the doctor says.

In the hall, Victor orders the doctor to prepare his wife's release; he wants her to recover at home. The doctor explains that her blood is toxic, her liver was lacerated and her other organs are failing. She doesn't have much time. Victor refuses to accept that. He returns to Sabrina's side and tells Michael to fly in specialists. Michael doubts it will help. Victor talks about trying for another baby and ordering a dialysis machine even if it won't do any good. Victoria and JT walk in. "How is she?" Victoria asks. Victor tells them to leave. Victoria cries and apologizes. "It's too late for that," Victor mutters. She walks out and cries. JT cradles her as Michael walks by. He asks about Nikki and then tells them that Sabrina won't make it.

Michael orders the doctor to get the dialysis machine. Victor needs that, even if it doesn't make sense.

Nick tells Phyllis that she can go home. He worries about his father and what he must be going through. She tells him to go and see his father. "I can't. He crossed the line. It's Adam's place now to be there for him," he says, confident that he's the last person Victor wants to see.

Nick tells his sister he's sorry about Sabrina and for the way Victor went off on her. She feels terrible; she's sure that Sabrina is dying and she never had the chance to say she was sorry. Nick reminds her that their father has practically disowned them and refuses to let them near. She tells him he still has to try to see their father.

Paul tells Nikki that Sabrina is in the ICU and David is in the morgue. He offers to call the funeral home. She tells him that she feels nauseated. He leaves to get her something and she sneaks out of her room, dragging her IV along.

Sabrina opens her eyes. Victor explains that she was in an accident. She cries as she asks about the baby. He kisses her forehead and promises her they can have lots of babies. "I'm dying aren't I?" she asks. He tells her not to talk about it. She wants the truth. He promises that he won't let anything happen to her. Nikki has been watching from the door. She quietly moves away.

Daniel goes to see Amber at the apartment. She's packing. His phone rings: It's Phyllis. He doesn't answer. Amber tells him she is moving back to LA so she doesn't have to watch him with other women. He tells her there might be a problem with that: He's moving to LA too. He wants to talk. She thinks he only listens to his mom. He says that Phyllis can't win unless they let her. Phyllis calls again and he answers. She tells him that Nikki is in the hospital. "I'll talk to you tomorrow," he says, hanging up. He tells Amber that he's told his mother off; no one deserves to be treated the way she was by Phyllis. Amber claims that she's every mother's worst nightmare. He tells her that doesn't matter - "we matter". He helps her unpack. She asks him what they're doing. "I'm here," he says. Time without her sucks. They begin to kiss and undress. Phyllis comes knocking at the door. She threatens to let herself in. They ignore her and he carries Amber into the bedroom.

Next on The Young and the Restless:

A paparazzo brings Jack photos of Sabrina's accident. "What makes you think I want these?" Jack asks.

They've found morphine in David's pocket.

"There's no reason for you to be here," Victor says. "I'm not leaving," Nick refuses.
