Used car in California - Can I drive with no plates?

So here is my deal. I just purchased a 86 BMW 325 and I am planning on driving it home tomorrow which happens to be a Saturday. I live in californa In the bay area and have about 1 hour to drive the car to get home. The current owner whom I'm buying the car from said the car was impounded and that's the reason for no plates. He has all the paper work and the tags are reg untill April 2010. I checked car fax and it all said clear. So my ultimate question is can I drive the car back to my house legally with no front or rear plates? After it's at my house I don't plan on driving it untill I go to the DMV and get the plates and all.

Any info would help.

Get the license plates. A police officer will more than likely see you and ticket you for an unlicensed vehicle. He won't care what you have at home. License plates MUST be attached to the vehicle. You could have the ticket excused after you showed proof that is was actually licensed, but you would have to go in front of a judge, etc. This is going to take a lot more time than the 30 mins. you say it would take to go home and get the plates.

If someone's car was is in your name years ago, and you dont have a driver's license and can't tell whether or not they have parking tickets how will you find out, if you dont have any of the car info. (i.e.) ticket # , plate #, vehicle I.D.

I dont know if there are tickets I'm just trying to find out because this has been like 5yrs. ago. but someone told me if there were tickets and I dont have a driver's license I would still have received some things in the mail...

Generally parking tickets will go against your registration, but it varies by state. You should be able to call the police and get the information, but if you dont know the plate number then your pretty much stuck. Do you sell the car? I dont understand why someone else's car is in your name. If you sold it, than you should have a release of liability or sale paperwork, so they wouldnt be your responsibility.

How much does it cost to transfer license plates to a new car in Massachusetts?

I am asking this question for my uncle. I don't drive yet so I don't know the answer! I went on the Mass RMV site and didn't see any info on transferring plates. maybe it was on there but I didn't see it. lol

Go to the nearest Insurance broker so that they can fill out the RMV1. Transferring plates goes for approximately 15.00 plus any weight difference. For instance if the new vehicle weights less then the weight of the old car you only pay the transfer fee. If It weights more then It is approximately $1.60 per 100 lbs difference in the weight. If the old car weights 2400 lbs and the new car weight 3100 that equals 700 lbs so@ $1.60 per 100 lbs that is a grand total of $11.20 + 15.00=26.20 plus any tax title and local fee. The broker (your uncle has to have gotten the Insurance somewhere.) In Mass Is the only place to get a reg form. Not at the DMV.

address and car registration info is correct but age and description (based on driver lic.) are not.
also ticket is a photo-ticket for running a left-turn red light

You contest it by explaining that it's not you.

But hold up a second, because you didn't say what kind of violation this is. The tickets that arrive by mail are normally photo-tickets, and they're not actual traffic violations. If you own the car and someone else ran a red light or went speeding past a camera while driving it, those tickets get sent to the owner and the owner is responsible for them. They don't involve points, in fact they don't even show up on your driving record, but you do have to deal with the fine.

If what you received was a copy (or second notice) of a cop-issued real traffic ticket, you then get off the hook by explaining they made an error because that driver is not you. How they got your vehicle information (probably wrote down the wrong plate #) is their business, but the driver of the vehicle is not you and you can prove it. Mistakes like that can happen, and are easily corrected.

But first, find out exactly what this ticket is. There is always a number to call somewhere on there, so call it.

How to find out if my car has Bluetooth in it?

I just bought a 2010 toyota camry. I do not no if theres bluetooth in it. In the car there is a mircophone for it. Also on the radio there is the text option. How can i find out if the car is equipped with bluetooth. On the sticker it does not say it.

If the sticker does not mention it you do not have bluetooth, a $400 option in Toyotas. There would be controls for it on the spokes of the steering wheel.

The text option allows your CD player to show text from CD's that have text.

The owners manuals have lots of info. There's the quickie manual, and there's the thincker one that tells the whole story in detail. After the excitement subsides, sit with the handbook.

They are supposed to tell you all this stuff while you're on the lot looking at the car, but they may think you know all of it when you don't ask for the info.

They probably put the sticker in your glove compartment. Look it over.

Did they sell you the "perma plate"? If you refuse it, they might knock the price in half.

Don't have too much excitement about the MPG meter. It's nice, but look at the road.

We, just replaced a 23 year old Corolla with 214,000 miles on it (still a daily driver), with a 2010 Corolla. It's as roomy as my old 1986 Camry was.

I'm a resident of Illinois temporarily in California for 3 months. Can I buy a car here, but register it in Illinois? I want to take the car back to my home after 3 months.

If possible, how should I do it? Should I mail the forms or something similar?

That only works for military. If you live in/work in the state 30 days, you have to register in CA or risk a ticket. When buying in CA, the plates stay with the car. You might only get caught if you end up in one of their safety inspection road stops or get caught speeding. Call DMV or Hwy Patrol for more detailed info.
