I'm a store manager for a clothing company who has a very low budget for advertising.

Hold a special event, write a press release and send it out to local newspapers and radio stations. The special event could be a fundraiser for a special charity that you support. This way you could even put flyers up in other stores that are similar but not competition or you could put it in stores in your neighborhood.

Another special event could be a quirky contest that offers a big prize for the winner and would get people out to your business to watch it happen. An example would be those car dealers that have a contest for people to place their hand on the car and the last person standing is the winner. In that case, a joint venture with another similar but non-competing business would be a good, low cost way to get your business in the news.

How about a fashion show with local celebrities? There should be something in it for them to participate.

Speaking of Oil, do Mechanics use DIRTY oil when they do Oil changes?

Wild Child

A quirky little man told me he always changes his own oil because these shops even the name brand shops use dirty oil- he claims- instead of opening new bottles. I don't know his reasoning Iguess to cut back on dollars. Although Oil isn't that expensive seeing as not that much is put in. If anyone knows please advise.

Answer
WILD CHILD!! Use a little common sense here. OIL CHANGE bargains for $15-20 will be using BULK oils from large barrels of CHEAPLY produced oil to MAKE $$$$$$!!!! They do NOT always use highly rated and approved oil for this REASON!!!! BEWARE of the oils that get pumped out of the ceiling with guns! GET SMART!!!! Your PARTICULAR car requires CERTAIN specification oil to run it's BEST, and NOT sludge up and trash out engine sensors and converter, etc!!! BARGAIN oil is PURE JUNK!!! THe quirky little man is 75% RIGHT-ON! The proper oil for YOU will have YOUR car makers name RIGHT ON THE LABEL. Every year, engine oil gets very different additives to make a specific CAR maker happy and satisfy their warranty and other requirements. READ your owner's manual about WHICH exact oil specification numbers your car maker NEED. THis is MORE than just the API and SAE service ratings. Oil made for use in a FORD is NOT always the same FORMULA that will make a CHRYSLER engine happy. ANY later model car engine works it absolute BEST with a PURE synthetic engine oil, like MOBIL ONE or PENNZOIL PLATINUM. There are OTHERS,too. Each oil is FINE tuned in many cases for ONE OR TWO engine MAKERS. READ the BACK of several oil containers at the parts store. You will SEE what I mean!!! It is NOT that they use DIRTY oi. it's that they MAY be suing re-cyled oil, or unrated oil with improper or CHEAP oil additives that have MINIMAL detergents and viscosity additives. WRONG engine oil ALWAYS makes sludge and breaks down engine internals and ruins expensive sensors and other items. AMSOIL is another GREAT oil maker that has DIFFERENT formulas for DIFFERENT car makers. SO does TOTAL oil. NEVER assume that ANY 10W-30 oil is like all the others. NO WAY!!! E.g. a EUROPEAN based car maker engine using a WAX based engine oil will self destruct and void the warranty!! I am trying to make a POINT here. SO many engines end up in junk yards from IMPROPER oil choices. Over time, the INSIDE of engines fall apart from lack of proper lubrication and the formation of acids and sludge. Just like cholesterol in a human body. Best oil choices make NO sludge and NO engine vapors to cause damage to engine parts. The good news is that a $50-60 SYNTHETIC oil change will last for a FULL YEAR or even longer. AMSOIL is good for 25.000 miles or ONE full year, making NO sludge and cleaning your engine with every mile. PENTOSIN from Germany will last for TWO FULL YEARS, and make NO sludge or vapors!! INFORM yourself and read several OIL tests published on the web, or go to the BOBTHEOILGUY website. A motor oil designed for a PINTO will simply NOT work in a refined NISSAN or TOYOTA or VW engine, even though the API and SAE service ratings are the SAME!!! Nearly ALL modern engines CAN last for 300,000+ miles. CHoosing the CORRECT oil is the BEST way to get the engine there!! PLEASE read you manual about the SPECIFICATION numbers for YOUR particular car make and YOUR particular ENGINE!! I HOPE you are getting the gist of this information!!!
