car business hiring decision?

Kiki K

Hi guys I applied for a salesman position in a dealership. I interviewed with the Finance director, and sales mangers. and at the end of the interview one of the sales managers told me "good news, you will just need to talk to the general manager"

So who usually does approve the hiring? the sales manager or the GM?

thanks

Answer
The General Manager or the head of the company. Good Luck

car burning oil & wont start? HELP?

Louis R

So i Just bought a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage that has 238,000 miles on it (I know thats a lot). The owner son drove it around a lot back and forth for hours without any problems ever (So i was told) so i bought it for $650 and my dad test drived it for me because i dont know how to drive a 5 speed and he felt nothing wrong with it even though he stalled out quite a few times.

The next day we drove back to the city where the car is (almost a 2 hour drive) and picked it up and it passed inspection and my mom drove it around for quite a bit going to the License plate agency and Auto zone where i bought some brake fluid for it, filled up the brake fluid, and checked the oil level, and it was pefectly full on oil. The only thing i couldn't check was the transmission fluid because there was no way to measure it until i got the car home so i can just change the fluid.

We began the 1 hour 45 minute drive home and part of the way there the car shut off when my mom tried to put it in 5th gear and the car choked for a little and couldn't turn it back on for a good 5-10 minutes. I assumed it was maybe gas so i filled up the tank at the closest station with 9.3 gallons (i guess it was close to empty!). we stayed at the gas station and my mom said it smelled as if the had " choked the car" i guess she meant stalling out and we waited a little because it gave problems starting and then it finally turned on. we left and traveled for 40 minutes with her on 4th and 5th gear going about 55-70 mph until i began to see a white smoke come out of the exhaust in little clouds then all over the back smoke was coming in the air vents (i was driving her car behind the Mitsubishi) and it smelled like exhaust and burning oil. My mom said the car began to want to shut off so she went from 5th to 4th to prevent it but it did turn off and we pulled over and under the hood there was white smoke smelling like burning oil coming from under the front part of the engine. We waited for the car to cool down and it stopped smoking but it wouldnt turn on and i couldnt abandon my new baby in a tow away zone so i pushed it with my moms car with a yoga mat she keeps in her trunk and we were able to push start it after a few attempts and we were hoping it would last to the next exit to park it somewhere in a mcdonalds and rent a dolley the next day to bring it home but we pushed our luck and continued to drive it until 10 miles later the same thing happened... so we gave up in pushing our luck and i pushed it with my moms car while she drve the Mitsubishi in neutral to a nearby store and went home so tomorrow i plan on picking it up after work ( just got hired its my first work day and im 16).

My dad believes it is a busted head gasket and that oil got into the valves causing burning oil but hes getting old and rusty as well as his skills so please fuel me with ideas on what might be wrong with the car! i don't have the money to be letting some random untrusted mechanic put his hands on my car.

PLEASE HELP

GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT WITH AS MANY HELPFUL DETAILS. and what the cause of the problem may have been

Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Get it towed to a trusted mechanic. Do not drive it. Check the dip stick. How much oil is in it now? Is the oil black or grey or a good clear color like it has just been changed? Does it look like oil and water mixed? Bad news. That means it is the head gasket, and the steam coming up also could mean that. When you check the dip stick, wipe it with a rag or kleenex so you put the dip stick in dry and clean to check the oil level. Does it look like water is in that oil on the dip stick?

Yes, the engine was flooded and so you had to wait a bit before it would start again. You pumped too much on on gas pedal, or the carb. is set too "rich".

You could have quite a repair bill on your hands. I just hope you did not crack the engine block or that's the end of it. Do you have lots of fluid in your radiator now?

You may also need a tune up with new plugs, etc. Check the oil lines, too, where they go into the brake cylinders of the wheels. If you had to buy brake fluid, you may have a leaking brake cylinder. You will see brake fluid that leaked under your car and alongside the wheels or maybe just one wheel.

Get an estimate from your trusted mechanic about how much he thinks the work will cost you, before he does anything. It may be more than you paid for the car and you might be better just to walk away from it. Get it to the garage by the dolly or tow truck, whichever is cheaper.

Sorry about your problems. Good luck. My knowledge of cars was gained by being around mechanics all my life.

You will probably hear from some mechanics here. I hope so.
