Answer
Driving in Queensland on a foreign driver licence:

You are only allowed to drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence, if you:

only drive the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence
comply with the conditions (if any) of your licence
carry your licence with you at all times when driving and immediately show it to a police office when asked to do so.

This is based on the Queensland Transport website - other states MAY be different.

More info here.

My son drives on a NZ 'P' license and can't transfer it till october here and is legal as you get your car license at an ealier age in NZ than aussie.

How could I get my car to Australia?

I know you can't drive on water, I'm more asking for details about how to get it shipped. For example, what company should I use?
From the Western US Coast

Answer
I haven't seen a left hand drive vehicle on the road for years, and I'd guess it's either because every state insists on conversion and/or it's too expensive and more trouble than it's worth.

These people handle shipping of cars from the US to Australia and their website has heaps of other info.
