car seat question please answer?

Q. ok I am aware of the car seat laws in Ohio, I have spoken to everyone from sheriffs, to pediatricians, to even web sights to stay updated on the laws. I have new car seat for my children and everything. but my question is my son is 15 months old and is 25 pounds, and 32 inches tall. now Ohio wants parents to wait until the child is two, until you turn the seat forward, but I have a 5 year old in a booster, whom is well qualified for so I know he is fine until 8, but I am expecting another child in the end of May. and by then my younger son will be around 19 months. now as far as height and weight he meets the standards of the car seat and the state, the only thing is his age. now I am not going to turn him around now, but after I have the new baby I was wondering other mom's thoughts on this, if you would or would not turn your child around? and consider al my info I put, and the fact I have a car, witch sits 3 in the back and 2 up front, and I have mentioned this to his doctor and she said just try to keep him rear facing as long as possible but did not say no because he is ok by height and weight, but just age is iffy. so what are your thoughts on this?

and no snobby comments
also addition to what other answers were my oldest son whom is now going to be 6 in less then a couple months dose not fit into any harnessed car seats so the only option is a booster seat. also I know the new law not until 2 years old that is what I stated above, so I am detailed on the law, but I wanted other parents thoughts on this situation, as to what other moms thought. this means in no way am I in rush to turn him

Answer
Congratulations!

I would not turn your child due to the reasons below.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that a properly used rear facing car seat is always safer than a properly used forward facing car seat. The AAP says that moving a child to the next step is a decrease in your child's protection in the car.

The results of a study published in Pediatrics shown that children under the age of 24 months were more than 500% safer riding rear facing than forward facing. That same study said, "Children under the age of 2 years are 75% less likely to die or sustain serious injury when they are in a rear-facing seat."

Here is that study: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/121/3/619.full

The video below is about a child who was 18 months old and 33 lbs and was in a crash. He was restrained in a forward facing car seat and broke his neck. He broke his neck because forward facing car seats do not restrain a child's neck during a crash. His injury (thank god it was an injury) could have been prevented had he rode in a rear facing car seat:

A booster seat's job is to correct seat belt fit, by placing the lap belt on the child's hips and the shoulder belt on between the child's neck and collar bone. An improperly positioned seat belt can severely injure or even kill a child.

The video below is about a child who was 8 years old (legal age) to be out of a booster seat and was in a crash. He is now paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life because he did not fit the adult seat belt. Something so simple as using a booster seat could have prevented his terrible disability: http://www.boosttil8.org/

The video also shows how a booster seat protects a child and when a child is ready to use a seat belt alone. Here is more about when a child is ready to use a seat belt alone: http://carseatblog.com/3966/the-5-step-test/

Not all booster seats are doing their job of correcting seat belt fit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnxiKz0kjPY

Having a three across situation can be tricky. I don't want to repeat what I wrote in the another similar question. View what I said here about how to fit three car seats in the link below.

This sums it up:
-5 year old riding in a narrow high-back booster such as the Evenflo Big Kid or Graco Turbobooster
-19 month old riding rear facing in the Diono Radian with the angle adjuster
-and your newborn riding in a narrow infant car seat such as the Chicco Key Fit 30 or the Cosco Scenera

Buckling up a booster can be very difficult, so you may want to have your 5 year old ride in a harness to avoid scraped knuckles. The Radians are expensive, but it is cheaper than a new car.

Find the order that the car seats can be properly installed independently. This means that car seats can touch each other, but may not rely on each other for support.

1960's cars?

cinndy p

i have 2 do a research on the 1960's cars... but i just cant find any good web sides... i need info like .... who, where, pics and the whole history of the 3 famous cars in the 60's thanks.... any web page?

Answer
First off you have to be fair and balanced . one GM one Ford and one Chrysler product.

Go to you tube and search the following Steve McQueen Bullit Car chase

Right there You will not only get the Ford and Chrysler 60`s cars in action but you will also be viewing the ultimate car chase scene. For the GM ... you can`t look at Chevy ... due to political correctness they were always a day late dollar short (everybody else had a pony car in 64, Chevy... 67..., refused to win on Sunday sell on Monday etc) Buick ( luxury car market had them busy ... why rock the old guy boat... GS`s were nice) Oldsmobile (still being used as a test bed for the rest of GM) Caddy... (Buick syndrome x 10). This leaves Pontiac and a man named John Z DeLorean... the so called father of the GTO...

Happy Hunting
