I am planning a trip to Australia in a few months and would like to drive from Melbourne to Darwin. I am just wondering if this is safe to do alone, as I am a woman. From theft to car troubles. Also, any tips would be appreciated!

Also, I am planning on being in Australia for hopefully a year and I would need to be getting a cell phone and bank account. What banks and cell phone companies would be recommended for a backpacker? And is there cellphone service from Melbourne to Darwin? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks : )

Answer
Well for a start about 40% of Australia is open highway so I'd probably get a real tough guy maybe a brother or someone related or a close friend to go with you just in case. Also, for mobile phone Telstra will work better in most places Vodafone won't work as good and 3 mobile and virgin and Optus mobile... Don't go there. With bank accounts you can get an and savings account which is where you save money in the card account and you withdraw what you put in. So once it's gone it's gone it's not a credit card, but with these you don't go over your limit plus there's a pin number. Good luck and have fun!!!

What is the cheapest way to travel around Sydney Australia with only 2 people?

My husband and I will be traveling to Australia for only about 5 days. There are a lot of places we want to go but have no idea how to get to any of them! Just wondering if theres is a bus system there or should we rent a car?

Answer
I wouldn't bother renting a car in Sydney for just a few days - especially if you are not use to high volume traffic.
There is abundance of tour buses/coaches, and the public transport system.

Take a look at these sites:::::
