Me and 4 of my friends are planning on going to Tokyo for a month during summer break. We plan on getting a 2 bed hotel room and splitting the cost of that per night.. uh were planning on spending about 2000-3000$ worth of shopping and renting two cars. How much should it cost per person and total? :) Oh and for the plane ride well we're from Quebec Canada :P

Answer
If you mean this year, in Sept fares are about US$1050 and up per person from YUL. Peak times are worse and low season a bit better. Hotel is the same story. If you want a decent clean place without the frills, try the Toyoko Inn or Superhotel chain. You could get a double room for about $70 and up. There are even cheaper places in Tokyo as well. See:

And if you have never stayed in one before, I recommend you spend at least a night in a Japanese Inn or ryokan. There are some inexpensive ones in Tokyo, like the Kimi, the Tama, the Taito and the Tokyo Ryokan. See:

If you really want a hotel room for 4, then you might check out:

Transport depends where you go. Tokyo subway tickets are relatively cheap. There are rail passes where you can go all over. See:

Unless you are familiar with Japanese driving on the left, and the steering wheel on the right, plus Japanese road signs and driving practices, renting a car is not a good idea. With 4 people it is more economical, but parking is often very hard in cities, gasoline is very pricey, and public transport will take you easily to most of the best places. Look into some rail, bus or air passes to save money.
Shopping again is up to what you want. A few dollars for a souvenir to the sky is the limit.
You need to figure out what you want to do with your time and where you want to go. The links below can give you more info.
