IF you have a 49CC scooter, and get the kit to bring in to more cc up to say 85cc, can the law see this?

MrWonderin

I have seen scooter upgrade kits to take a 49-50cc scooter up to I think 85cc for more power. as a 49cc scooter does not need a tag or insurance, my question is during a routine police stop can they tell you had a the conversion? Provided I am not jetting at 60 mph I mean.

Answer
Oh the innocent

I do hope you are not in the UK

So you're supposed to be riding a bike limited to 45 kmh 28 mph.. You are being followed by police on a road doing more than that ..... they have callibrated speedo so check you doing 45 in a 50. No you're not breaking the speed limit. But the registration shows the bike is a moped....... You are going to get stopped....
They can now seize the bike for it to be examined. including taking it apart!!!
Also in UK where there have been a high degree of incidents or a large number of kids on bikes POLICE have set up stop checks with DVLA supplied dynomometer testers. They can having seized a suspect bike test it for power and performance.
If the bike exceeds the legal requirement they can confiscate it AND if you want to avoid prosecution they get you to press the button to have it crushed !!!!!
