Answer
Here's a link to the local NBC Channel 7 news station and they show reported accidents dating back as far as Thanksgiving on this page, but nothing about a head-on occuring on 12/9/08...

http://www.kplctv.com/Global/category.asp?C=4384&nav=menu66_2

They do show a fatal hit & run accident at the bottom of the page, but that involves a 64 year old man who was drunk after leaving a bar and laid down in the middle of the road and was hit by a passing car that left the scene.

You could try three other alternatives for information...Contact the non-emergency number to speak with the records clerk of the local police department, sheriff's department, or state police to find out more information.

Unless the accident is still under investigation, anything contained in the police report is officially public record and anyone can obtain a copy.

help please with collection agency?

ok im am training to become an mma fighter and the gym i last attended was a fraud big time and very misleading anyways yes i signed a contract but i feel like i shouldn't have to pay because of all the lies first the owner said after 3 months i could join the amateur fight team ok i train for three month every time i wanted to join he would blow me off so i was kept in this so called "advanced" class that were full of kids 7-16 and women ok im like wtf im 6'2 205 so im like im done so i pay them the last month since i did go there that month and now a collection agency in florida says i owe them and im from texas yes i know that the gym works with them but the fact that that gym was a family oriented gym very misleading and the owner was avoiding me multiple time i feel like i was robbed if anything idk what to do because i just recently got into a car accident and i have to pay the people i hit $4000 in damages i was considering a drop dead letter but even then it will only get worse and really don't feel like getting a lawsuit or anything like that from them
yea i think what im going to do is either talk to the owner or take it to small claims court if the settlement isnt agreeable thanks you helped out alot

Answer
The fact that you just stopped paying them without going through the proper channels to cancel your membership means that you do owe the money. It doesn't matter if they misled you - that should have been stated in writing to their corporate office stating that you wanted a refund and the reasons you are cancelling. You could also take them to small claims court if they gave you misleading information or report them to your state Attorney General's office. But you cannot just stop paying because you felt you got scammed. There is a whole process that you have to go through to cancel any gym membership - which will all be spelled out in their contract

Did you even try to cancel your membership by speaking directly to the gym? If your local gym would not help, did you contact their corporate office to try and cancel, and state the reasons why you are cancelling - with the exact details of what happened -- who told you something, exactly what you were promised, the date this was promised, if this was verbal or in writing? You should put together a timeline to the best of your memory of exactly what was said, by whom, and when

Without this and an agreement from the gym to cancel your membership, you are in breach of contract and they will collect from you. The collections agency is not going away. What you need to do is contact the gym directly and try to work out a settlement based on the misleading information they gave you. Say that if they do not refund your money, you are going to file a report with the Attorney General's office and also contact your local news station (if your local news does any "Shame on You" type reports). Make it clear that you do not want to resort to this, and would rather end this amicably. But if you are unable to cancel and get the collections agency called off, you will have no other choice
