Why do people (who claim to be from SA) keep telling others on Yahoo forums that South Africa is a safe country to visit and live in?
SA newspapers daily report more murders and atrocities.
Some facts about SA.
50 murders a day. A DAY!
53000 reported rapes a year. Estimated at least that number again is unreported. Many rapes carried out by HIV/AIDS positive males.
10000 white farmers murdered between 2005 and 2006.
Since Feb 2007; At least a dozen tourists attacked and mugged at knifepoint on Table Mountain. One of SA's prime tourist attractions.Tourist women gang raped on Durban beach. Tourists mugged on Durban beach. 32 coach tourists robbed by 3 thugs at gunpoint whilst having breakfast in Cape Town.
These are not isolated incidents!
Carjackings and in-car murders carried out on a daily basis. House break-ins and house murders carried out on a daily basis.
Violence against whites, in particular tourists, seems to be increasing.
Visit SA news websites like www.iol.co.za
I stand corrected about 10000 farm attacks equals 1600 murders.
Though it has been pointed out to me elsewhere that more farmers have been killed in South Africa than ever were in Zimbabwe.
Whilst the ANC may not be encouraging this they certainly seem to be doing nothing to stop it.
And like Zim white farmers are now being evicted from their properties and the farm given over to black landlords.'
This the very action that the world decries Uncle Bob in Zim doing!
If the ANC really wanted to protect the white farmers the simple solution would be to have the military patrol rural areas on a daily basis. As SA is not at war with anyone soldiers and helicopter patrols could be spared for this task.
And one more figure for those who claim SA is as safe as any other modern country. More people are murdered daily in SA than in Iraq.
More people have been killed in SA in the last 12 months than in Iraq in the same time period. Some of you may have noticed that Iraq is a war zone?

Answer
My aunt lived there (Johannesburg) and she agreed with you. When I was little she always told me how she'd love for me to come see her and how she'd show me all of the country when I was a bit older, but when I was a teenager she didn't want me to come over anymore, she told me it was way too dangerous. She considered moving back to the Netherlands, quite a few of her friends did, but she and her husband finally decided to remain there, they had their homes and jobs and felt they were too old to start over elsewhere again. But she never wanted me to come, she said it was a very dangerous country, we wouldn't have been able to travel around near as much, and mostly would've had to stay at her place which had a high wall, a security system and two dogs.

My aunt died about five years ago and I haven't really kept up with the situation these past years but that's what she always wrote me, there were things about the country she loved but she also felt insecure living there.

Can I obtain legal licensing of anothers property without a written agreement?

I want to make T-shirts using copyrighted photos.

Answer
No. Also, you may be interested in these other things you can't do: finance your startup with stolen credit cards; identify theft; carjacking; or beating up a kid for looking at you funny.

I'm updating to include the following:

(Source: U.S. Copyright Act. 17 U.S.C. S. 501 says: "Anyone who violates any of the exclusive rights of the copyright owner as provided by sections 106 through 122 or of the author as provided in section 106A (a). . .is an infringer of the copyright or right of the author, as the case may be." See link below.)

The good news is, most folks with a copyright will be willing to give you a license for a reasonable royalty, although they'll reserve the right to approve how the shirts look.

Response to the answer below: that's one approach. But those are stock photos, what I took from the question was, the questioner has a specific set of photos already in mind. At any rate, the photos on that site you mentioned are royalty-free -- no ongoing duty to pay a portion of the t-shirt revenues -- but you have to pay a chunk up front, $450. More to the question, what that site offers DOES include a written agreement -- license terms and conditions from the copyright owners that says, here are the conditions under which you can use our copyrighted material. See 2d link below. So back to my original point, there's no way to do this without permission, not legally, anyway. Legally, a copyright is property that belongs to someone just like a car or credit card.
