Car cigarette burn?! Hyundai Elantra 2012?

asdffda

I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra (with cloth seats). My friend was in the passenger side and flicked a cigarette out the window...only to have it fly back into the back seat. We've already tried a DIY kit, but it is still very noticeable.

I'll be checking out the dealership and repair shops this week, but do you think that I have to get the ENTIRE back seat reupholstered? Or can they just get the little panel of cloth where the burn is and cut it out and replace it?

My oh-so trusty friend is unwilling to foot the bill, not even partially and not to sound overdramatic, but my parents are going to annihilate me if they found out. I don't smoke, but once they find out that I have a friend that does, it will still be the end of me. My dad is borrowing my car this Saturday, so I'm in a bit of a hurry.

Please, I call upon the wise Yahoo Answers community to help me out, give advice, or even just moral support. Thanks!
Dean: It's on the right side of the backseat where you would put your bottom on. It was pretty gnarly and the DIY repair kit only made it maybe 10% better.

Answer
Ok, it is a 2012 Hyandai, cloth seats, well, they are not cloth, they are Textiles. If burning cig landed on the Seat, that is the part you sit on, or if it burnt the Lean Back, that is the part your back rests on, sorry, is kinda obvious but it also matters.
DIY , I have seen some that cover, temporarily, but is like super gluing the handlebars onto a bike, it never lasts long.
If is a panel in the Seat, that is like a section or a 4" piece of cloth that is sewn to other matching pieces that all join up and make the seat, that can be replaced, but it is hard to match the discoloring from normal use.
Good News! Yes, it can be reupholstered, if you know an Upholsterer that has a shop and will put all other biz on hold while they do that seat, that will cost.
Good news, is still a rather new car, a matching Seat Cover could be ordered, and installed, is about a 1 hour job, well is actually less, but that is what most Shop Books call for.
Problem is getting that matching textile in and installing it in super hero like time and fashions. Is tough, can be done.
Best thing to do is go get an estimate, from an Upholstery Shop that you KNOW and are confident of, get estimate, when dada notices it, then simply tell the truth, is simple.
Dad, I gave a friend a ride and friend was smoking and seat got damaged.
I have an estimate and I have the monies to have it repaired and I will never allow anyone to smoke in any car again!
Not entire backseat, but the entire section may need doing, Seat and Leanback, one of those should be looked at and proper repair applied.
Don't lie and don't be deceitfully, that never ends up well, ever.
That job normally runs $100, give or take a few things, like location, how well you know the Upholstery Tech, and then are the three rules of any shop,
Fast, Good and Cheap, you can only pick two,
You want Fast and Good, it is not going to be Cheap.
You want Good and Cheap, is not going to be Fast.
You want Cheap and Fast is not going to be Good.

Choose wisley.
All my work is good, but I have accomidated some clients and done really fast jobs, cheap, and they were good, not as good as if I was allowed the time to do them up to my standards, that is where the honesty plays in, just fess up, be right and then have it repaired correctly.

Are problems with 2010 to 2012 ford fusion transmissions isolated events OR a universal defect?

Joel S

Trying to determine risk of buying 2011 Ford fusion SE. Many cases reported online across many sources stating the transmission failed prematurely in 2010 to 2012 cars. Does anyone know the percent of vehicle transmission failures if the failures are isolated incidences? OR, are these failures not an IF event but a WHEN event in that they will occur to ALL transmissions in these cars eventually ? Thank you!

Answer
Hey Joel S,

Your concerns may be well founded if based on internet information. However, let me assure you these are isolated events, and we strive to address any concerns brought to our attention by owners.

Since 2010 the Fusion has received numerous accolades. Here are a few for your consideration:

2010 Model Year
⢠âDriving is unexpectedly fun, with good turn-in and more lateral grip than an economically priced family sedan ever should have!â â RoadandTrack.com, 12/08
2011 Model Year
⢠âMost car reviewers agree that the 2011 Ford Fusion is ideal for small families. It is practical for city drivers, looks good, prioritizes safety, doesnât waste fuel and wonât break the bank.â â U.S. News & World Report
2012 Model Year
⢠âMost Dependable Mid-size Carâ available according to J.D. Power and Associates

And the excitement continues with the 2013 Fusion, which will be hitting the North American markets in late fall! To quote MotorTrend: âFordâs all-new Fusion brings alive the next generation of more expressive vehicles from Ford and is the first sedan to offer gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.â

So, when you have an opportunity, visit the local Ford dealer for a demo drive, and put to rest any qualms about owning a Fusion.
