What is the difference between USB car radio and USB car radio with iPod support?

Virus

The question is simple: What is the difference between a USB car radio and a USB car radio with iPod support?

If someone owns an iPod and plugs it to a regular USB car radio, what happens? What are the benefits of purchasing a USB car radio with iPod support (more $$$) compared to a regular USB car radio?

Neither Sony nor Pioneer gave me an intelligent answer:
-Sony said that Iâm better off with the USB only as it is compatible with many devices, whereas the iPod USB is LIMITED and ONLY compatible with iPods/iPhones.
-Pioneer said that if I plug an iPod to a USB only radio, it will randomly play songs without me having any sort of control (scrolling, skipping songs, browsing through folders), unless I buy a special 30$ cable â and suggested that I go to a store and test it there with the salesperson just in case anyway.

(Big applause to Sony and Pioneer technical help teams!)

Answer
The USB only will view whatever is connected to it as a storage device. ie; USB jumpdrive etc. In some cases you will still have to control the iPod or iPhone manually.
The USB / iPod, iPhone support radio will allow you to control all the functions from the radio. Example you could get a unit that has this feature on the back of it and put the cord through to the glove box and connect it to the iPod and leave it there with the glovebox closed.
I hope I helped better than Pioneer and Sony's tech support.

EDIT This info will help you understand better ( sorry I didn't get back with you )
iPod/iPhone Direct Connection: The Pioneer DEH-330UB's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your iPod/iPhone to the headunit, via Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU50, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable which comes with your iPod/iPhone. Link Search: In addition, the headunit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the headunit can create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre.

iPod/iPhone Display: The headunit will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, including - Track number, Folder number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, and Album title.
iPod/iPhone Charging: The headunit's USB connection will power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone battery when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.
Note: If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the headunit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to the older software version or wait until a newer software update is available. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1303300UB/Pioneer-DEH-3300UB.html?tp=5684&tab=detailed_info#External%20Device%20Controls
